Standing in the cradle of Christianity, Pope Benedict XVI told Palestinians in Bethlehem on Wednesday that he supports an independent Palestinian state. "The Holy See supports the right of your people to a sovereign Palestinian homeland in the land of your forefathers, secure and at peace with its neighbors, within internationally recognized borders," the pontiff said to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

"Pope in Bethlehem Endorses Palestinian Homeland....on Mars"

It seems that the pope has taken a short hiatus from being a jackass.

He will be back to business as usual soon enough, though.

Pope calls Israeli Wall symbol of "stalemate"

Pope Benedict stood by the wall Israel is building round the West Bank on Wednesday and called it a symbol of "stalemate" between Israel and the Palestinians, urging both sides to break a "spiral of violence".

"Towering over us, as we gather here this afternoon, is a stark reminder of the stalemate that relations between Israelis and Palestinians seem to have reached -- the wall," he said in a speech at a refugee camp in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus.

Bebe Tear down your wall...

Everyone endorses a Palestinian home land.
The only problem is the Palestinians don't want one.

rwd

A small step, but in the right direction.

Everyone endorses a Palestinian home land.
The only problem is the Palestinians don't want one.

Not true. There are just a few that believe it should be all of the Israeli land too.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

A one state solution is the only option. Get rid of this ethnic state nonsense. Some Israelis would protest and say that they would then be the minority to the Arabs.

Well, Jews are a minority in America and they do just fine.

If the capital of this Palestinian State was in Jerico I would be more likely to believe that this idea is a set up for the return of a modern Joshua.

That may very well be true of many Palestinians, to say nothing of many in neighboring countries.

Yes, Jews do just fine in America, but then their circumstances are immeasurably better in America.

Personally, I don't see how a one-state solution is even plausible at this point. "Get rid of this ethnic state nonsense" is a fantastic idea, but neither side has shown much desire to do so.

I think having two states is not only acceptable, but also the most plausible. Provided, that is, to echo RWD's concern, that enough Palestinians (and others) would find that acceptable.

We'll see.

With this and the reinstatement of the holocaust denier I don't think he is getting any Hanukkah chocolate gelt this year.

he'd better watch himself - there are eternal penalties for those who endorse dividing the land.

"he'd better watch himself - there are eternal penalties for those who endorse dividing the land."

Psssst..... those voices in your head are just you.

There is the issue of the echo..

Maybe the pope trusts Jesus as his personal savior and believes there are no eternal consequences for his bad behavior. In other words, maybe the pope is really an Evangelical.

" there are eternal penalties "

Eternity with nanc being the worst of all possible outcomes.

Doesn't matter what the Pope says. The Israelis answer to no one as long as their colony, the United States, supports them unilaterally.

Tear down the wall and enable suicide bombers and other terrorists to operate more successfully. What's wrong with you guys?

Zionist Tool Johnson,
Perhaps ending the 60-year-long apartheid would remove the inclination to shoot those little bottle rockets at the Jews, Einstein? I have educated you previously many times on how the Jews introduced terrorism to that area, yet your skull is impenetrable.

he'd better watch himself - there are eternal penalties for those who endorse dividing the land.

Has it been a week yet?

Argh... I can't bring myself to do it right now. I've seen the humanity of the other side, and somehow I no longer want the digital bloodshed to continue...

zh - i forgot to mark it on my calendar. go ahead - let loose, i know your constitution must be failing you. just this once. however, future favors will come with a two week penalty...*8)

i'm a helluva lot of fun!

A one state solution is the only option.
......#8 | Posted by NerfHerder

......no its not.....

....as long as Hamas does not recognize the right of Israel to exist.... the two state option provides the greatest amount of peace, to the greatest number of people......

Get rid of this ethnic state nonsense.

....Israel will be able to get rid of the "ethnic state nonsense" when all the Islamic Republics of (Libya, Egypt, Pakistan etc.) get rid of Islam ...

....and since there is only ONE JEWISH state but MANY ISLAMIC REPUBLICS......perhaps you should start by convincing the many Islamic Republics in the world to eliminate Islam from their name and national identity......

.....when you've gotten them all to ditch ISLAM, then give Israel a call.....then they will see the light....

I'm very curious as to what the Biblical support is for stating that people who endorse "splitting" the Holy Land will suffer eternal consequences. Personally, I wasn't too much aware that God cared about lines on a map, but I've been known to be wrong before.

Well, historically speaking, the Israelites divided the land quite a bit. Before there were two kingdoms, Israel and Judah, the twelve tribes divided the land.

And then the Assyrians.
And then the Babylonians.
And then the Persians.
And then the Seleucids.
And then the Romans.
And then the Turks.

yadda yadda yadda

The Pope is _still_ a quisling...

"The Holy See supports the right of your people to a sovereign Palestinian homeland in the land of your forefathers, secure and at peace with its neighbors, within internationally recognized borders,"

Middle East 101:
Israel does not support the right to a sovereign Palestinian homeland, does not want this homeland to be secure, will never be at peace with it, and through its militant colonization program ('settlements') already ignores internationally recognized borders.

Mohammad Atta and others recognized these blindingly obvious truths and hijacked airplanes and killed lots of Americans to make them wake up to the reality of Zionism's unending ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

When are Americans going to stop funding this ethnic cleansing? Americans have supported Israel with billions of dollars and on September 11 2001 lost thousands of people because of their support for Israel.

Um, was not expecting a 9/11 apologist on this thread.

I thought Mohammed Atta and others hijacked airplanes and killed lots of Americans because they were inconceivably arrogant self-righteous assholes with no conscience.
