The commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Gen. David McKiernan was asked to resign and will be replaced by Lt. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Monday afternoon. "We have a new strategy, a new mission, and a new ambassador (in Afghanistan). I believe that new military leadership also is needed," Gate said.

"Top commander in Afghanistan ousted"

FLOP EARS found out he was a Conservative.

bho is a WAR CRIMINAL

FTFA: In addition to sending 21,000 more troops and trainers to Afghanistan, Obama has committed a surge in U.S. civilian personnel and aid to boost domestic support for Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who is currently considered weak and unpopular.

Currently? Yer kidding, right?

Karzai has always been considered a weak puppet of the US and his writ extends barely to the outskirts of the capitol city he hides out in, usually.

Can't think of anyone else in that place who would be any better though.

As to the changing of the top commander here?

Gates sez it's his idea but the fact that the change occured only a coupla weeks after Obama met with Karzai and Pakistani leaders and 8 months before McKiernan was due to rotate out of the gig indicates that Gate's opinion wasn't the only input there.

Be Well.

The US needs a commander who is more sensitive to the
customs, traditions and sensabilities of the Afghan people.

However, being a former special foeces fellow, I doubt
he has the right stuff. How come no muslim commanders
are being considered for the top spot?
Sheesh!

Be Well.

That was a joke, right?

I don't know if the military is actively recruiting Muslims and/or people of Middle Eastern descent, but the diplomatic and intelligence communities are desperate for them.

As long as he can achieve victory, nobody of importance will complain too much about how many babies get killed.

Has Harry Reid surrendered yet? That's what really matters.

Libs said that Bush lost OBL in Tora Bora. Now Barry will find that fucker even if he bankrupts the country.

FWTHOM-
re: Libs said that Bush lost OBL in Tora Bora.

Everyone says that Bush lost OBL -- period -- but then Bush only had seven years to get him after 9/11, and he had to deal with Saddam's WMDs and active role in al Qaeda, and Iraq's active nuclear program......

the fact that the change occured only a coupla weeks after Obama met with Karzai and Pakistani leaders and 8 months before McKiernan was due to rotate out of the gig indicates that Gate's opinion wasn't the only input there.

That's right. Pakistan has been saying this guy is USELESS.

We told the Americans to remove him and he is gone.

Bush already accomplished that mission. Carry on.

Letusprey-
No, not quite. Bush lied us into a war that had nothing to do with bin Laden, and never got bin Laden.

Oh, I was referring to the bankrupt part. Sorry I wasn't clear.

This McKiernan cunt was very anti-Pakistan and made one anti-Pakistan statement too many.

Let see if the new guy is also anti-Pakistan. If yes, Obamba will remove him too.

We had a discussion here at the retort a couple weeks ago,we don't say cunt anymore

we don't say cunt anymore

Oops.... replace with "jerk"...

If there was a "Pathetic Hack" flag, Oozie, your posts would default to it immediately after you hit the "publish" button.

More info and background at "Commander's Ouster Is Tied to Shift in Afghan War" by Elisabeth Bumiller & Tom Shanker (www.nytimes.com).

The arrogant S.O.B wants a pussy that will lie for him and his camel jockey friends.

The removed General was obviously killing too many of Obamas fellow muzzies.

I though this might be coming anyway. McKiernan was the 3rd Army commander in the Iraq and Petraeus was the 101st Division commander, two levels down. Now, Petraeus is McKiernan's boss. Probably not a good situation to begin with. From what I have heard, McKiernan is a solid guy, but not the best guy for fighting an insurgency.

He was fired because it was felt he could not handle what is coming.

Have you heard of "Operation Nusrat"?

That's the name of the coming Afghan-Taliban campaign this summer. They appear quite confident.

And since Pakistan thought he was a worm... he's out.

This reminds me of the crap that happened in Viet Nam. The Johnson administration tried to conduct the war from Washington, D.C. I'm glad that I'm too old to be eligible for the future draft that may be needed when the all-volunteer army can't get enough volunteers.

Everything I have read suggests he was replaced because he was too much from the old school of the Pentagon. Sit back, make decisions slowly, send out lagre slow moving forces, which were easy to spy/anticipate. Though I suspect what tosser is saying is probably closer to the truth.

Rolling Stone published an article last year blaming the war's stalled progress on Bush's failure to negotiate with the taliban. If that was the case why isn't the zero sending in HRC to settle this? Or the UN? Come on obama just talk with them, and make nice.....

Anyway it's obama's war now. Wonder when he will deliver on the OBL promise...
