Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Pope Benedict XVI has warned against the misuse of religion for political ends, in a speech to Muslim leaders on the second day of his visit to Jordan. "Some assert that religion is necessarily a cause of division in our world and so they argue that the lesser attention given to religion in the public sphere the better," he said. "However, is it not also the case that often it is the ideological manipulation of religion, sometimes for political ends, that is the real catalyst for tension and division, and at times even violence in society?"

Lemme get this straight-if I can....
The head of the Catholic Church-arguably one of the most politically intrusive "religions"-warns AGAINST "Misuse of Religion for Political purposes?

WOW!
Irony-thy name is "Benny-The-Rat".......

And the Pope is campaigning for what, exactly?

This Pope... Kafir-Mullah.... has opinions too?

If yer gonna argue for the seperation of Church and State it kinda helps yer case

...if yer CHURCH ISN'T ALSO A STATE!!

Just kinda throwing that out there.

Be Well.

All those who "speak for God" and stand in between God and Man... are to burn in Hell" (Priests, Padres, Rabbis, Mullahs, Popes, Ayatollahs)

Koran.

'nuff said.

The mullah (same as boy-butt luvin priest) has been around to steal scraps from the table for as long as Abraham's religion has been on Earth.

He can call himself Rabbi or Ayaatollah... he is the same cockroach.

They only become such people because they are failures in life... or because they can't find a real woman to fuck... they can't make money to feed themselves.. not good enough to get a job... can't sing for their dinner, rotten voice... so they turn Mullah.

Same as a Politician. Failure, can't make money, so lets get elected.

I wonder if Benny includes excommunicating (or at least denying sacraments to) people who favor reproductive rights or people who favor reproductive rights. herm

"Pope warns against misuse of religion for political ends"

Nothing to say or add to that one, really.

The joke has pretty much already written itself.

This comes from the religion that kissed Franco's ass for many years because he was a good catholic boy?

apparently, he doesn't take his vaticanship all that seriously.

Nanc why aren't you minding your family on mothers day?

At first I thought this had to be Onion article.

This comes from the religion that kissed Franco's ass for many years because he was a good catholic boy?

In fairness, the Vatican did help Reagan get rid of those nasty revolutionary theologists in Central America. Maybe the Popes see dictators as divinely installed. They certainly cuddled up to enough of them.

But coming on top of the Jesuits decrying America's religious Right as a republican front, maybe the Vatican is pulling its sticky fingers out of the poli-pie for a bit.

I think that by trying to take a swipe at Islam, the Popester poked himself in the eye...up to his elbow.

He is either the biggest hypocrite around or this is one of the bigger examples of projection I've seen in decades.

Wonder why the panzer pope didn't bother to tell that to the republifuckers 8 years ago eh?

"In fairness, the Vatican did help Reagan get rid of those nasty revolutionary theologists in Central America."

You further validated that the Vatican plays politics.

However much this is Pot/Kettle, considering the source, the sentiment is correct. Politics, particularly those corrupted by corporate power interests uses religion at least as much as religion has used politics.

If this Pope want to repent, he has the chance to do so.

The only one allowed to use the "CHURCH" for political purposes is the Poopy himself? Guess so.

He's saying that it should not be misused, not that it shouldn't be used at all.

So. expect more use of religion for political ends, but they'll try really hard not to manipulate ideologies as they do it.

No, really. They'll try really hard.

Jesus? Mohammed?

Jesus? Mohammed?

Good question.

It doesn't apply to them since they were not priests or mullahs.

They were only "sent as a warning to mankind and with a message of hope". Both tried their level best to get people to use their own common sense.

Islam still doesn't have an organized clergy (Shia's do, however). So since Islam doesn't have a "Church" or a Pope.. it is not "an organized religion".

You know, I usually respect you words, but that is the biggest crock of shit I have ever heard you say.

You know the Neo-cons are looking for a few good ignoramuses who are good at denial and false beliefs.

This is the ultimate "DO AS I SAY AND NOT AS I DO"

"There are literally thousands of doctrines of Christianity based on different interpretations of scripture."

Scripture interprets itself, if one knows how to read the Bible correctly. I didn't learn how to actually USE my Bible till after I left the Catholic religion.

There are numerous man made laws in the Catholic religion that actually go against what Scripture says.

fyi, rasta - my family purchased some lovely hanging baskets of live flowers and wrought iron hangers and put them on our patio - my husband made me a custom omelet with sweet and white potatoes, colby jack cheese and green onions. he and i then went outside and gardened most of the day (we have had tomato plant wars for several years) - then we had a light supper and watched a sam elliot western together last night - it was a simply wondy day! one of the best gifts i received yesterday was from our daughter - because my family is not allowed to choose my jewelry anymore, she put a picture she found of a heart pendant with the word "MOM" on it in a pretty little decorative box and gave it to me - laugh of the day!

how was your day?

"There are numerous man made laws in the Catholic religion that actually go against what Scripture says."

Lisa, the Catholic religion is based up three types of law:
1.)Divine Law...set down by the Ten Commandments and by the words of Christ. Divine law can't be changed.
2.)Natural Law...laws of nature. Obviously, we can't change the fact that gravity exists, the sun rises in the East and a ten-story fall on concrete is fatal.
3.)Ecclesiastical Law...laws set down by the Church, such as no meat on Friday (changed), no marriage for priests, no female priests etc. Ecclesiastical Law can be changed. One of the big controversies is birth control. When God said, "Go forth and multiply..." did that make Divine Law prohibiting birth control. OR, is denying the use of birth control an Ecclesiastical Law? There's the argument. I suspect your statement just points out those arguments in the Catholic Church regarding similar Divine/Ecclesiastical laws.

and instead of 50 virgins they get 50 wives

You know, I usually respect you words, but that is the biggest crock of shit I have ever heard you say.

Why is it a crock?

Do your own Googling and you will see these are Muslim beliefs I just told you.

Mohamed was very against a clergy and a "church" with a pope. I bet so was Jesus. It isn't his fault Christianity was hijacked and turned into profession.

If they are not Christian beliefs... nothing I can do about THAT.

Very simply... a clergy is an organization. At least Mohamed was never in favor of such an organization.

The Shia and their 12, 15, 20 imams... I never could understand that and neither can anyone else.

Tossed Salad, I apologize, I should have been more specific.

I am not saying you are not correct in your analysis, In fact I am saying right the opposite. I'll bet your analysis is spot-on in the religious world.

My problem is not with the messenger but with the message.

Faith in man and his man-made religion in the 21st century is a real problem. It has descended into a giant game of 'Whack-a-Mole'. A mole pops his head up and a bunch of religious people go scurrying about trying to find a passage and verse to justify it or to whack it down.

"Scripture interprets itself, if one knows how to read the Bible correctly." - #29 | Posted by Lisa

And this is the huge mistake so many people make. Scripture is a book written at a particular time for that particular time. Like most important books are. If one doesn't understand those times, if one doesn't understand the thinking of those times or the expressions of those times or the wording of those times, one can't truly understand Scripture. Yet very few people who read (and interpret) Scripture have even a small clue about those times.

Pope: Don't Misuse Religion for Political Ends

Apparently the Pope has a sense of humor... he just doesn't get his own jokes.

"God Bless America!"

Faith in man and his man-made religion

I don't believe in God because it sez I should in the Koran! LOL

Or because Mohamed said I should!

No.

I do it because of the principle of "minimum belief".

And because of some scientific arguments.

AND because I have seen TRUE EVIL. If that is real then it's opposite must also be real.

I would also say, the biggest crooks I have come across, talk about God the most.

The Vermin-in-EXILE doesn't know nothing. I have never seen America in me life.

I was thinking of this guy who used to install car ACs. After installing the AC, it used to work great but hey, coolant leak in two weeks. Get some more gas filled. Pay some more.

It was a racket.

And this guy has a stack of bumper stickers with him that said "LOVE ISLAM".

Even stuck it on my car even though I told him not to.

Then there was another guy who prayed not 5 times a day, but 10 times a day (or it looked that way). He even had the "holy look" on his face always... the look like when you have swallowed a turd?

He was a first class crook too selling fake made-in-Taiwan car parts.

Jesus got people to offer the other the cheek when they were hit......and Mohammed got people to line up, bow down to an arshole lined up directly in front of you...and pray to the arsehole.......well......at least Mohammed had a sense of humor.

Jesus and Mohammed are two guys who went around telling people they didn't need religion and, to show how well the people learned, they started faiths based on these two- George Carlin

Skizzi.... are you an atheist?

Why? Were you raped by Padre?

Is Carlin really that well known in Pakistan or are you in the minority? I am really curious how far reaching humor goes around the world.

Not known at all.

I looked him up after he died and saw him on TV somewhere.

Jesus got people to offer the other the cheek when they were hit....

#42 | Posted by skizziks

Actually, this is one example of what AILTD said about understanding the times that the scriptures were written in.

Jesus never told people to 'turn the other cheek' meaning be passive to the power. This is one of those mis-interpretations. He told people that if someone wanted to slap you as a slave, turn you cheek and make the slap you as an equal, meaning that their percieved power over you meant nothing. and he was right about that.

Another mis-interpretation is the 'Don't judge' thing. It never says you shouldn't judge people, it only says you shouldn't judge someone else by a different standard than you judge yourself.

You talibaptists please be aware that I am not a christian. I hate your religion, but I love the uncorrupted writings attributed to Jesus. I am not a muslim but I like the writings attributed to Mohammed.

The catholic church is actually to blame for these mis-interpretations. During the time when they were burning people at the stake for not being a christian, all the people that were christians correctly surmised that they better not try to interpret anything, for fear of interpreting it wrong. So they went with a literalists approach to writings that were originally written to be allegorical and poetic.

Were Athiests made from a part of G-d that hates Himself?

Were Agnostics made from a part of G-d that doubts Himself?

They all follow the theme of the first question.

An atheist dies and wakes up to find he is in hell.

He's really depressed as he stands in the processing line waiting to talk to an admittance counselor. He thinks to himself "I know I lead a wild life but I wasn't that bad. I never thought it would come to this." Looking up he sees that it is his turn to be processed into hell. With fear and a heavy heart, he walks up to the counselor.

Counselor: What's the problem, you look depressed?

Atheist: Well, what do you think? I'm in hell.

Counselor: Hell's not so bad, we actually have a lot of fun. Do you like to drink?

Atheist: Sure, I love to drink.

Counselor: Well then, you are going to love

Mondays. On Mondays we drink up a storm. You can have whiskey, rum, tequila, beer, whatever you want and as much a you want. We party all night long. You'll love Mondays. Do you smoke?

Atheist: Yes, as a matter of fact I do.

Counselor: You are going to love Tuesdays. Tuesday is smoke day. You get to smoke the finest cigars and best cigarettes available anywhere. And you smoke to your heart's desire without worrying about cancer because you are already dead! Is that great or what? You are going to love Tuesdays. Do you do drugs?

Atheist: Well in my younger days I experimented a little.

Counselor: You are going to love Wednesdays. That's drug day. You can experiment with any drug you want and you don't have to worry about overdoses or getting hooked because you are already dead. You are going to love Wednesdays. Do you gamble?

Atheist: Yes, I love to gamble.

Counselor: You are going to love Thursdays because we gamble all day and night -- black jack, craps, poker, slots, horse races, everything! You are going to love Thursdays. Are you gay?

Atheist: Uhh...no.

Counselor: Oh , you're gonna hate Fridays...

Deuteronomy 17
17:2 If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant; 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; 17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel; 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

The same for fundie Muslims...Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. - 2:191

how come they so stinky then?

"Scripture is a book written at a particular time for that particular time"

I beg to differ.

The New Testament is NOT just FOR that particular time. Have you read it? It contains stories OF those times as well as holding many lessons for us to apply in our lives today.

Both are right. The bible probably reflects how people thought 2,000 and 3,000 years ago, and the changes that took place in the interval. I favor bible-as-literature courses if instructors will merely keep the goddam Christian dogma out of their lessons. herm

Indeed and the Jews are still waiting!

"The lessons are of right and wrong written by man."

Mostly correct. Written by man who were given the words by God. : )

The bible is a guide, not a religion. Why is it so few people can grasp that.

Who said the Bible was a "religion", Money?

Many, many different "religions" use the Bible.

You wouldn't have to drop the New Testie, Ooey, but merely point out that it as written by PEOPLE (how do you make italics?) to reflect sentiments of the day, not ideas of their deity. You'd have to distinguish among Genesis, Leviticus, Revelations and the four major gospels. It wouldn't be so tough if you didn't fel you must palm it off as - er - gospel. Decent universities have mastered the trick. herm

(how do you make italics?)

*Italic (i)the words you want italicised(/I)

*Bold (B)the words you want enboldened(/b)

*Blockquote (blockquote)the quote you want(/blockquote)

*Instead of using the rounded bracket you use the pointy ones. "

Got cut off there.

You can also use them on more than one word.

Double use of blockquote makes words tiny.

Be Well.

Again I ask you ding dong, who is not allowed to reproduce? You keep talking about reproductive rights? Who is not allowed to reproduce in the U.S.? As far as I know, any idiot can put tab a into slot b and reproduce. African American birthrates are very high - so it can't be a racist issue you are concerned with. Who is having their right to reproduce encroached upon?

So on the real Drudge - a blurb that, in reaction to Israeli dissatisfaction with the Pope's unemotional comments in Israel, the Pope Spokesman releases a statement that the Pope was never a member of the Hitler Youth.

And I think that is a good quality in a Pope - he was never in the Hitler Youth.

Sorta like Obama - we have statments like - well he was a community organizer. He no longer smokes cocaine. He has grown away from his "kill whitey" roots in the Wright church.

Just like the Pope never having been a Nazi Hitler Youth, Obama also has stellar qualifications for his position.

"The New Testament is NOT just FOR that particular time." - Lisa

The Bible is applicable for all time. I agree. Which isn't anywhere near my point, though. I was emphasizing that it was written in a way that the people of those times would understand using the expressions and the understandings of those times. And to properly interpret that, one needs to understand that very well. Sort of like if you read that one person says to another "Get out of town". If a sheriff in the wild West said that it would mean one thing. If one Brooklynite said that to another, it has an entirely different meaning. Context is all important and one needs to understand the context. The vast majority of people who "interpret" the Bible don't. Clearer?

The Pope is an idiot in a funny hat.
