A controversial German anatomy artist is facing protests over his latest plastination exhibition after unveiling a work showing two corpses having sexual intercourse.

Gunther von Hagens, whose latest exhibition, Cycle of Life, opens in Berlin tomorrow , has defended the exhibit saying that it combines the two greatest taboos of sex and death and is a lesson in biology, but is "not meant to be sexually stimulating".

Von Hagens is so, well, odd, I'm surprised he doesn't post here regularly.

I've seen his exhibit at the Witte museum in San Antonio. It was awesome. It was a couple of years ago, so I didn't get to see the naughty exhibit.

The pics that I saw were actually pretty cool - not pornographic.

I'd rather be immortalized that way than get eaten by worms.

If something dealing with things as universal as sex and death while getting a visceral response from viewers doesn't constitute art, I don't know what possibly could. I didn't say taste, but the two are not necessarily entwined. Damn the haters :)

No, this is definitely not comparable to the guy who canned his own shit and sold it for the price of gold. This is decent.

My daughter sent me a link to the main site. I used to buy her books on snakes and reptiles so she has an interest in biology.

Vivisection as Art? I have a Gray's Anatomy.

I'd rather look at Monet or a Sunset.
