Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Bloggers in Burma, Iran and Syria work under some of the most repressive conditions in the world, facing tactics such as regulation, intimidation and even imprisonment, according to a report from the Committee to Protect Journalists. "When all else fails, the authorities simply jail a few bloggers to intimidate the rest of the online community into silence or self-censorship," said the group's executive director, Joel Simon.

Of course they would.

You seeing someone about this paranoia of yours, or are you good with it?

I would like to see the results, for one day, when all those who held loaded guns instead wrote blogs, and all those who wrote on blogs instead held loaded guns.

I would venture those who were originally bloggers would be much more prone to violence, but more scared for their own well-being to resort to it, even in the name of fighting injustice.

When I take right wing bloggers for rides in my balloon I take extra sandbags to compensate for all that extra hot air.

***"Republicans would love enforce laws similar to those found in China to keep the masses ignorant."***

Since the Republicans haven't enacted such laws, how do you explain your ignorance?

America: not quite the national socialist ideal. Not yet...

please.........

I guess you didnt listen to cspan about the discussion our congress was having about the beginning of thier end to free speech. the DEMS are the ones putting the first amendment to rest with the hate speech bill they are about to pass. they call it hates crimes but we all know that talk radio is the real target.

I thought the list was going to be of sites, not countries.
I was ready to have a laugh.

***"When I take right wing bloggers for rides in my balloon I take extra sandbags to compensate for all that extra hot air."***

sandbags = left-wing bloggers

Afk--Can you provide a link to the hate speech bill. I'd like to read it myself and see this death of first amendment of which you speak. (I don't know any democrats personally who want to end the first amendment. I've never heard a dem politician seriously suggest curtailment of free speech.)

And btw, not so long ago, (some) rightwingers were arguing that localism and ownership rules were mere steps to the Fairness Doctrine, a precursor or some such argument. A cynical person might think that maybe your argument is replacing that one.

Oh, and Hagbard--I was expecting sites, too. I was expecting that at least some wag here would say, "Oh, #3: Drudge Retort!"

PRAG...the problem with what you ask for is ..
and I say this with apologies to our gay posters here.

its a 'backdoor' approach and when the dems use this 'stealth' method of shutting us up, its hidden, but make no mistake.
when they use the word hate crimes, hate speech will be soon to come and then it will be expanded to include talk radio....

Oh we got bloggers
Right here in Rcade city
That starts with a "B" and that rhymes with "T" and that stands for tool.

So in other words, Afk, you can't back up your argument with evidence. Any teacher worth his or her salt would grade you poorly then. Link, please. Then I can see if even your premise has any merit. (The slippery slope argument?)

Oh, and no reasonable gay man I know would have a problem with the phrase "back door approach." Oh, never mind, you were making a joke.

nice jab zat.

someone else give you that little nugget?
or did they give you the 'big nugget'.

oh oh...good one...

prag...my statement was the conclusion I arrived at by watching and reading a number of diverse articles and programs....I am sure a link will be following in the days to come. I just hope its to late before it happens.

I want a link to the text, Afk. It's really that simple. I don't care what other people think at this time. I heard your interpretation, though it seems to me it's not of the text but of what other people said about the text. I'd like to engage in my own thinking. Synthesis is a good skill, but one ought to read the primary document. (Weren't you a _teacher_?)

FF fer Zat!

10 Worst Places fer Bloggers?

Hey, how come "Inside Cheney's man-sized safe" didn't make the list?

Republicans would love enforce laws similar to those found in China to keep the masses ignorant.

"Love" may be too strong of a term for it but certainly all available evidence points to rtards being bigger fans of authoritarian government than the lefties.

From torture to wiretaps to unwarranted wars to free speech zones and loyalty oaths the rtards tend to thank the government when a jackboot holds their necks to the floor.

Lefties tend to biatch at them kind of excesses.

Be Well.

And now in Britain--one of the worse.

WoW! Some people don't remember G. Gordon Liddy saying the exact same thing about the Clinton Administration. Hmmmm. And then it all stopped when Bush was elected.

I think you're a liar, there Spud.

One question... What is it with you people and dumb aggressive bitches named Janet?

ya, so we better jump right out and pass the Fairness Doctrine.

-The Left

ya, so we better jump right out and pass the Fairness Doctrine.

That's just a bitter, likely-to-be-failed attempt to restrict free speech. As much as I hate Limbaugh, this isn't the right way to go about dealing with him.

Much as torture isn't the right way to go about interrogating captured terrorists.

It's called principle, and under the right circumstances, both sides are willing to throw it away.

Zombie, I agree with you. Frightening, but true.

Just another way for journalists to save their job, bloggers are unskilled and taking it away from the hired goons.

Frightening, but true.

All is not lost as long as there are people still willing to stand up for our freedoms and the values of America. It may be cliche, but hundreds of thousands of Americans have bled so that people can, if they choose, make an ass of themselves. The moment that debate stops or we as a people willingly sacrifice our liberty without hesitation will be the day that those men and women died in vain.

LOL

I did if you would get that cheese shit out of your ears and read it.........

or would it be cheese eyes..

nevermind

whats up DORKETTE!!!!!

When 101st is at 'work' as a failed plumbing supply salesman (got fired from his TV ad sales gig) and Jak Mao is 2/3'rds of a bottle of Jack Daniels gone, this place is the #1 worst.

dont think so

redneck and celisary are in their locked paneled rooms and wont come out until midnight or so..

#7 Rex Zeitgeists dungeon of luv.

I have a simple question. Would the people on the left support the fairness doctrin if it applied to the big 3 news stations, the major papers, NPR, etc.

If each of those were required by law to hire an equal number of McCain supporters and allow them an even amount of space in the papers...

Then what?

Oh, and can you imagine if Ann Coulter was the official spokesman for CNN?

LOL.

Do people on the left (implied: all of them) support the Fairness Doctrine? I haven't read a survey.

I'm on the left. I support regulation of ownership. I'm not sure about the Fairness Doctrine. Seems ... muddy.

I haven't seen anyone on here who supported it. I do agree with you, though, that there should be greater oversight on ownership and monopolies in media.

How about limited ownership, no few individuals should be able to control the media and that is what we have now.
