Taliban militants have inflicted a reign of terror on villagers, landowners and the police in parts of North West Frontier Province in Pakistan, In one Taliban-controlled village, Pir Baba in Buner, the militants were holding 2,000 people as human shields in case the Pakistan army attacked.

When your best people start surrendering, it is only a mater of time. No need to hurry, no need to take risks.

For up to the minute news, watch Pakistani tv channels live on the internet.

"Not good."

I understand they're gonna release a lot of their little friends from Guananamo in your neighborhood, Danni.

What? Are they going to really close down Guantanamo?

I thought that was all talk.

JEST

They're releasing them into the Smokies. The Tora Bora crowd have to feel at home surrounded by radical politicos and caves to hang in. Ug LOL

"They're releasing them into the Smokies."

How long do you think they'll last here? Even the women here are heavily armed.

Women are hairily armed in East Tennessee LOL

Eric Rudolph lasted a long while. He wasn't even a skilled cave dweller as your new neighbors will be.

"Eric Rudolph lasted a long while."

He had helpers. Are you and your little friends gonna come on down and help the Taliban?

JEST

No, we're counting on you to keep them in line.

I must add that I've also observed women in your neck of the woods are more 'heavily armed'. So much so that short sleeved dresses are in poor taste. LOL

Great.

More corporate propaganda from the times.

So many people forget the american revolution.

Fucking embarrassing.

Not good.

Briliant comment.

Maybe some of the lefties here need to get over there and tell them about the Geneva Convention.

Maybe some of the lefties here need to get over there and tell them about the Geneva Convention.

---------

Tell it to the american mercanary army in iraq.

Shawn forgets, "Tell it to the american mercanary army in iraq."

It is president Obama's Iraq, now, and he is following Bush's lead in the drawdown ... like a good follower should.

You're ilk are a bunch of pissant cowards, afraid that the real heros of democracy will show you up for the craven, vote mongering defeatists you happen to be ... that's all ...

Welfare gluttons who would sell out democracy for more free housing, medicine and food stamps ...

What historical figures to admire, you chicken-littles will be in your mob-like cowardice and greed ...

It is president Obama's Iraq, now, and he is following Bush's lead in the drawdown

TADOWE

Wrong! Bush is following Obama and the Iraqi government's lead. Obama proposed withdrawing long before Bush was forced to when the Iraqi's agreed with Obama and not Bush.

PS I can't believe how much the burnt part of this piece of toast looks like Suaan Boyle. I'm for sure going to make a LOT of money.

Well thats Muslims being Muslims!

Fuck off tad.

In fact obama has merely moved more troops to afganistan, while insuring that the military bases built in iraq will be there for decades.

obama = bush

Barry knows what to do because he went to the Jimmy Carter School of Hostage Capitulation.

1. Walk around in the Rose Garden for months wring your hands and tell everyone that you are working on the probelem.

2. If there is an election on the horizon try to run out the clock. If not organize a mickey mouse rescue mission that is destined to fail.

3. Grab some wood and rusty nails and build the next generation of slum housing while you wait for some libs in Sweden to hand you a Nobel Peace Prize.

Jimmy Carter School

Ya, he shoulda gone to the Reagan School where he woulda learned how to secretly provide arms to terrorists in order to buy drugs and arms and provide them to a secretly funded army responsible for murder, torture and rape.

Reagan and his Organ Grinder Boss HW Bush went behind a sitting presidents back and stymied his attempts to free the hostages in order to get elected.

Of course, he was cleared of all suspicions after he came into power but Spud don't buy the white wash fer a minute.

Be Well.

Right, which explains the dead pirates.

Fat White Thom is about out of options.

"Tear".

Is this the "good" Taliban or the "bad" Taliban. Im trying to figure out which one ....

Also, are we supposed to like or dislike the Pakistani Army. The President said he liked the Pakistani Army because they were protecting the nukes but not liking the Prime Minister. Does that mean he would support a military coup? If he can shake hands with Chavez and bow to the Saudi King, I guess I shouldnt be surprised.

Is this the "good" Taliban or the "bad" Taliban.

These are the "bad taliban" (from our point of view).

The "good taliban" are led by people like Mangal Bagh, Haqani, Hekmatyar, etc. who DO NOT make any trouble inside Pakistan and have agreed not to support anti-Pakistan elements and they inform us what the "bad taliban" are up to.

Also, are we supposed to like or dislike the Pakistani Army.

If you are American, you like the Pak Army in public but work against the Pak Army and hate the Pak Army in secret.

Anyway, most of the time... in fact 99% of the time, the Pak Army does not fight against the Taliban.

The Frontier Corps does.

The Frontier Corps is a para-military militia made up of local folks, is all.

When American newspapers say, "Pakistani troops"... more often than not, they mean the Frontier Corps, not the Pak Army.

In this case, the Army is involved however. Still... most fighting is being done by the Frontiers-men.

Tosser - all of these mixed messages are mudding our relationship with India - whom we will need to help stabilize the region. The President's comments on the Pak Army brought chuckles in the region. Also, publicly discussing support for Nawaz Sharif doesnt help. The problem the Administration has for this region is that it has too many egos involved - Holbrooke, Clinton, Biden, Obama, and soon Tim Roemer. All have different viewpoints - which will only muddle the approach. They need to have one public policy expert on this region taking the lead.

whom we will need to help stabilize the region.

The more you involve India, the more trouble America will have in Afghanistan and the region. Guaranteed and pinki-promise.

Up to you.

publicly discussing support for Nawaz Sharif doesnt help.

No, that doesn't help at all. LOL

They need to have one public policy expert on this region taking the lead.

I doubt America has such a person with them.

Tosser - I agree, India complicates the matter. But if you dont include them, you cant have stability. This Administration understands that and that is why Holbrooke's dossier almost included India in his title (he visits India whenever he visits the region). India has as much interest in the stability of Afghanistan (kinda obvious) as we do and India has very strong cultural ties to Afghanistan (without the extremism). Their input and participation is required. Downside, they are inconsistent partners and still view any positive comments by Americans on Pakistan as an insult.

But if you dont include them, you cant have stability.

If you include them, you will NEVER have stability.

Whoever told your Govt that, is lying to you or is brain-dead.

Their input and participation is required.

They are not Afghanistan's neighbor and their participation in Afghanistan will:

1. Get them killed.
2. Get you killed.

If you don't believe it, try it out for a year or two and see if I am right or wrong.

The idiots who make foreign policy in America should understand that Asia has a pecking order. And China is on top of that pecking order.

If the US is encouraging India to get more involved in the region, India will be stepping on Pakistan's toes (for which they tend to pay in blood) and on China's toes (which resulted in the 1962 Sino-India war).

Besides... India doesn't have the capacity to stabilize itself in Kashmir or Assam or deal with the Naxalites... how do you expect them to "stabilize the region"? LOL

Look at example of Indian stability:

www.youtube.com

(Pakistan flag hoisted in Assam.... an act of war) LOL

India has very strong cultural ties to Afghanistan (without the extremism)

WITH the extremism, mate.

Who supported "Northern Alliance"? (India)

You are aware that the "Northern Alliance".. when it was in power... is still blamed for raping more women and killing more people than the Taliban, yeah?

Look up "Dostum".

Tosser - so what should the Indians do? They are the big military power in the region. I cant imagine that they will continue to sit back and allow Afghanistan and Pakistan to keep sending jihadists over the border. Consistent pressure by the Americans and Brits has not stopped cross border terrorism.

With regards to Kashmir, India does have problems and has had some difficulties (i.e. Kargil). And what complicates this is India has the second largest Muslim population in the world and the government does not need to incite that population.

We know that the Indians are not innocent when it comes to their foreign policy (i.e. East and West Pakistan, Sri Lanka). But if there is a country/culture that could support Afghanistan it would be India.

Check out this link by the Council on Foreign Relations: www.cfr.org

The end of the report states the following:

"Most policy experts support India's engagement in Afghanistan but recommend a three-way relationship between India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. USIP's Thier says Afghanistan must reassert a neutral policy of pursuing strong relations with both India and Pakistan. In a 2006 Council Special Report on Afghanistan, Rubin writes: "The United States should strengthen its presence on the Afghan side of the border, and encourage India and Afghanistan not to engage in any provocative activity there." Rubin says Afghanistan should encourage confidence-building measures with Pakistan in the border area.

Some experts emphasize better regional cooperation on trade. A January 2008 report (PDF) by the Afghanistan Study Group, working under the U.S.-based independent nonprofit Center for the Study of the Presidency, recommended that Pakistan remove restrictions that inhibit the transportation of goods through Pakistan to and from Afghanistan, including from India. "With regard to trade, there should be a more concerted and energetic international effort to enable Afghanistan to take fuller advantage of its geographic position as a crossroads between central, southern and western Asia," the report says.

The Pakistan Policy Working Group report, penned by several former U.S. State department officials, says Washington will need to step up diplomacy in South Asia, and it needs to consider how to decrease Pakistan's fear of India and "how to improve U.S. ties with New Delhi without alarming Islamabad." It is in India's interest to ensure that its involvement in Afghanistan is transparent to Pakistan, argue these experts."

Tosser - as for the Indo-Sino relations, they have definitely improved and there has been talk in trying to resolve the border disputes. I think the Chinese realize that they will have to deal with India - but mainly in grabbing all the resources to support their economies. As long as India keeps out of Southeast Asia, the Chinese will not do anything.

The Chinese and India will not piss on each other over Afghanistan. Heck, the Chinese were unable to stop India from receiving civilian nuclear technology. Interesting enough, where they will piss over each other will be supremacy of the seas (shipping routes).

2,000? Does that count the 30 women and children Obama killed last month?

this is the enemy this is their answer to no collateral damage they do their best to insure it----they know that what ever they do to civilians will be overlooked -but let the us kill one and it will be front page news
jasman

"Heck, the Chinese were unable to stop India from receiving civilian nuclear technology."

Yep the Chinese mistakenly thought the US would live up to its obligations under the Nonproliferation Treaty. A silly assumption.

Sounds like a job for Iron Man.

so what should the Indians do?

They should sit in a corner and figure out how to solve the 17, 18, separatist movements in their country first (apart from Assam and Kashmir).

They are the big military power in the region.

No.. China is the big power in the region.

India might have more non-nuclear arms than Pakistan, but when it comes to nukes, Pakistan has more missiles and more bombs. We more than match them kiloton for kiloton, megaton for megaton.

But neither are a match for China.

as for the Indo-Sino relations, they have definitely improved

No, they have degraded.

"String of Pearls" will be activated in Gwader and in Sri Lanka. India has been screaming bloody murder.

The Chinese and India will not piss on each other over Afghanistan.

Like I said, you are welcome to bring in India.

Don't say I didn't warn you. LOL

Heck, the Chinese were unable to stop India from receiving civilian nuclear technology.

Why would we or China stop a deal that makes India dependent on the USA?

Indians themselves are not happy over it. An Indian news channel secretly recorded the Indian Prime Minister stuffing suitcases full of money for bribing politicians to not oppose the deal.

They all know it is terrible for India.

This is why Pakistan (and China) stopped it's efforts to oppose it even though we could have made quite a dent.

fwthom,

You forgot the most important of the Carter years.

4. Cripple the military by taking away all of their funding and act surprised when their equipment fails during critical operations.
