Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Friday, May 01, 2009

As the World Health Organization raised its infectious disease alert level Wednesday and health officials confirmed the first death linked to swine flu inside U.S. borders, scientists studying the virus are coming to the consensus that this hybrid strain of influenza -- at least in its current form -- isn't shaping up to be as fatal as the strains that caused some previous pandemics.

Nice to see the administration causing panice. I guess they have to with the state of the economy, slight of hand?

Obama is just falling in lock step of the pharma corporations causing fear to get the masses buying the flu shot.

All made up crap but it is change we can believe in, obama knows whats best.

The swine flu is "mild", and is by no means the best virus that Latin America has to offer.

Dengue fever, the first time you get it, is "medium," but the second time, you might just find it's got a lot spicier.

Yellow fever is pretty spicy, and Bolivian hemorrhagic fever is quite hot as well.

Leishmaniasis isn't caused by a virus, but it's another wonderful denizen of the tropics. Most people don't like it, but they find that it grows on them.

Bolivian hemorrhagic fever is quite hot as well.

Verdad!

Es MUY caliente!

Be Well.

"Scientists see this flu strain as relatively mild" . . . and the mainstream media want you to see this flu as exceptionally wild and contagious. More people will die this year from flu strains that have been around for years than the "Swine Flu" aka N12BC3P0, or whatever we are calling it today. According to "authorities" everyone who so much as held a tomato to their lips last summer would have certainly shit themselves to death by now.

ALL OF HUMANITY IS AT RISK!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo...
the humanity!

"OOOOOOPPPPPPS!!!

Does this mean we can't distract the sheeple from our big spending socialist programs?"

Carville the Skull and Dead Fish

isn't shaping up to be as fatal as the strains that caused some previous pandemics.

That can't be!!!! We have the entire world at threat level 5. Run for your lives.

swine flu....
again BUSH`S FAULT.....

Your Fear Will Make Some People VERY Rich in Today's Crumbling Economy

Tamiflu (oseltamivir phosphate) is approved for treatment of uncomplicated influenza A and B in children 1 year of age or older. It is also approved for prevention of influenza in people 13 years or older. It's part of a group of anti-influenza drugs called neuraminidase inhibitors, which work by blocking a viral enzyme that helps the influenza virus to invade cells in your respiratory tract.

According to the Associated Press at least one financial analyst estimates up to $388 million worth of Tamiflu sales in the near future10 -- and that's without a pandemic outbreak.
More than half a dozen pharmaceutical companies, including Gilead Sciences Inc., Roche, GlaxoSmithKline and other companies with a stake in flu treatments and detection, have seen a rise in their shares in a matter of days, and will likely see revenue boosts if the swine flu outbreak continues to spread.

Swine flue is extremely convenient for governments that would have very soon have to dispose of billions of dollars of Tamiflu stock, which they bought to counter avian flu, or H5N1. The US government ordered 20 million doses, costing $2 billion, in October, 2005, and around that time the UK government ordered 14.6 million doses. Tamiflu's manufacturer, Roche, has confirmed that the shelf life of its anti-viral is three years.

As soon as Homeland Security declared a health emergency, 25 percent -- about 12 million doses -- of Tamiflu and Relenza treatment courses were released from the nation's stockpile. However, beware that the declaration also allows unapproved tests and drugs to be administered to children. Many health- and government officials are more than willing to take that chance with your life, and the life of your child. But are you?

Tamiflu Loaded With Side Effects, Including Death and Can Only Reduce Symptoms by 36 Hours at BEST

Please realize that Tamiflu is NOT a safe drug Serious side effects include convulsions, delirium or delusions, and 14 deaths in children and teens as a result of neuropsychiatric problems and brain infections Japan actually banned Tamiflu for children in 2007.

Remember, Tamiflu went through some rough times not too long ago, as the dangers of this drug came to light when, in 2007, the FDA finally began investigating some 1,800 adverse event reports related to the drug.

articles.mercola.com

Tamiflu is not a drug to be taken lightly, for sure. It does have side effects, and it doesn't really do that much - your immune system is perfectly capable of handling this bug in 99% or more of cases. I would like to see tighter regulation on the prescription of antivirals like Tamiflu and Relenza.

Passing it out like candy will just increase the chance that when it is really needed, the virus will have evolved resistance. This drug needs to be restricted to the people who actually need it - the ones who are seriously ill or are at risk of complications.

Also, people who are on it need to be kept isolated. The virus that they are shedding may have some measure of resistance to it, and you don't want that to get out and infect other people.

Never waste a crisis right?

The end of politics as usual continues! Where is the "fearmongering" outrage? Hmmmmmmm.........

The swine flu is "mild", and is by no means the best virus that Latin America has to offer.

----

A friend dared me to try the "hot" kind. It gave some serious runs.

Where is the "fearmongering" outrage? Hmmmmmmm.........

I've been saying the whole time that the media is blowing this out of proportion and people are going overboard. It's not your government that is doing the fearmongering, it's your newsman. It's Matt Drudge posting a red banner headline proclaiming the apocalypse. It's hours of coverage on every major network.

"Nice to see the administration causing panice. I guess they have to with the state of the economy, slight of hand?"

Typical mouthbreather white trash response from chickenrancher.

When a new flu virus occurs no one knows how deadly it will be. By historical standards they can be very deadly if humans have little resistance to them. See Spanish Influenza which killed 100 million people.

It is a pity there wasn't a selective virus that would target american conservativde white trash.

Thanks for the clarification. I suppose me giving up the media & the government being seperate entities long ago has colored my perception?

It is a pity there wasn't a selective virus that would target american conservativde white trash.

yeah......too bad.

Nice to see the administration causing panic

Lawl!

On one thread we got rtards claiming Obama, the man who sed at his last new conference that the flu was "a matter of deep concern but not a reason to panic" of causing panic.

On another thread we have rtards claiming that Obama is not taking the threat seriously enuff and that he should shut the border down pronto.

Obama can't win for losing with these guys.

It's not just the blatant obtructionism that Spud finds so offensive it's also the sheer stupidity that goes along with it.

Yeesh.

Be Well.

spudhead, it came here from mexico and there are thousands of mexicans comming across the border every day. You are right it makes no sense in closing that door, all the horses havent came here yet.

#16 - Zombie - you got that right. Matt Drudge has been showing people in gas masks and big, fat, end-of-humanity headlines since this thing first erupted. Nobody has created more panic than that right-wing Obama hater has.

On the other hand, Biden's comments about staying off planes and subways were irresponsible as well.

But it's not just those two, either. The World Health Organization rated this flu bug a 5 out of 6, and so it's pretty natural for people to get worked up.

And the fat lady still hasn't finished her song. So all you conspiracy nuts might want to wait a few months before yappin' about intentional false alarms.

"yappin' about intentional false alarms."

When they start piling up the corpses like cord-wood in Mexico City, then I'll stop yappin'.

Why is the WHO rating this a 5 out of 6?

Now it is a mild flu strain?

Can't they get on the same page and be truthful about this crap?

Try and keep up Murph....

Pandemic preparedness
"In the 2009 revision of the phase descriptions, WHO has retained the use of a six-phased approach Phases 1-3 correlate with preparedness, including capacity development and response planning activities, while Phases 4-6 clearly signal the need for response and mitigation efforts. Furthermore, periods after the first pandemic wave are elaborated to facilitate post pandemic recovery activities.

Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region. While most countries will not be affected at this stage, the declaration of Phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short. "

Note: It says NOTHING about what the virus DOES.
Since there are cases of human to human contact in the U.S. and Mexico, it fits the Phase 5 definition.
I know reading is hard work.

Just trying to keep your mind off of the economy.

Hope and change

Johnson we know you're a fucking moron, no reason to continually prove it.

Nice to see the administration causing panice. I guess they have to with the state of the economy, slight of hand?--chicken

Sleight of hand, you mean?

WHO (and gov'ts and med orgs around the world) is taking its own steps to prevent a global pandemic. A far cry from ratcheting up the terror levels on a daily basis to puppeteer the populace.

Thou art slight of mind...

And so it begins.

Idiots who know nothing about virology or influenza specifically will read all sorts of batshit crazy stuff out this (ie big pharm trying to sell off tamiflu stocks before they expire)and will decide in their ignorance that influenza pandemics are just government created boogeymen that aren't to be feared. A sense of complacency will set in and then when a real nasty fucker hits people won't react properly.

Just look at some of the stupid shit people have said on this thread.

Ray,

Seriously. You're citing Dr. Mercola? That guy is a fucking quack deluxe.

You wouldn't say that if you were 95, like Ray is thanks to the miracle of colloidal silver.

prediction this morning is that in less than two weeks this will....UNLESS it mutates....not be a story....
