I just looked up the amino acid sequence of the swine flu protein that lets it get inside your cells. There's over 75% similarity between the HA protein of a "swine flu" strain from New York and that of a strain from DENMARK actually found in a pig in 1993.

Let's try something. I'm going to give an alternative scenario(s) and you tell me why it can't be true.

The reason only people have died from it in Mexico is because the people that have been contracting and dying from the virus are considerably poorer and therefore malnourished compared to the people who have TRAVELED to Mexico. The people who have caught the disease while traveling, either for pleasure or business, are not as poor and, therefore, are better fed and/or healthier, making them less likely to suffer from severe disease or death.

Second scenario. There haven't been nearly as many cases outside of Mexico as there has been in Mexico. The numbers given in the media or REPORTED cases. No one has any idea how widespread the disease truly is as people with mild or asymptomatic infections would not be counted. Therefore, it is simply a matter of statistics and sheer numbers that has resulted in the seemingly disproportionate affect on hispanics.
