More interesting was when she claimed that her department was firm on not taking Maher Arar of the no-fly list despite the fact that he had been cleared of all charges and compensated by the Canadian government for being tortured for over a year after being extraordinarily renditioned to Syria by the US government.

Basically it looks like she's afraid of being pecieved as too soft so she's knucking under ot the conventional wisdom at DHS and making a fool out of herself in the process.

Shortly after 9/11 the writers on the West Wing wrote an episode in which a terrorist crossed into the US from Canada and while Spud is patently aware this was a fictional teevee show Spud also realises that some morons tend to blur the lines between fiction and non-fiction.

The fact that the terrorist on that episode of WW crossed over to Vermont from Ontario still gives Spud a chuckle however.
