Despite support for an assault weapons ban from the president, vice president, secretary of state and attorney general, the White House acknowledged the political reality that passing a new assault weapons ban is not likely. President Obama recently said, "None of us are any illusion that reinstating that ban would be easy. What we're focused on is how we can improve our enforcement of existing laws."

That's it-take away one of the right's talking points! They'll have to come up with something ELSE to "scare" up their supporters......

Oh don't You worry none FrankF. The Right Winged nutbars will think of SOMETHING.

Didn't Obama say that they would not prosecute the people who wrote the opinions on the water boarding, etc.?

Seems his word is not worth much.

gotta go get me an m4

If Obama tried to reinstate the assault weapons ban he would lose the blue dog democrats. Not possible. Now to enforce the existing laws and up the penalties which the NRA, gun manufacturers and gun-nuts really don't want but vocally support would be quite interesting.

I expect the hypocritical right to attack the enforcement of existing gun laws as well.

for example I have known of several white trash legal gun owners who showed their gun when in a non-violent argument. When the cops came they simply talked them a bit, I think only hand cuffed one, checked their permit and then let them off with a warning.

I'd love to see idiots like this thrown in jail and have their gun rights removed which is allowable by law.

WOW what an novel concept this is.

"I'd love to see idiots like this thrown in jail and have their gun rights removed which is allowable by law."

Do you have a link to the law that says it's illegal to brandish a weapon without using it? And then the link to where that charge is significant enough to confiscate said person's guns?

Nice to see the public doesn't support it either.

The poll along with the article has 72% voting no for reinstatement of the ban with over 42,000 votes cast.

Seems more or less in line with other polls I've seen.

You mean it was "non-violent" right up until the "white trash legal gun owners showed their gun", don't you?

OCU

Dems have a solid majority. They have the POTUS. They can ram through whatever they want as long as they can grab Snowe, McCain, Spector or one of a couple of other senators to avoid a filibuster.

The sky's the limit. When Reps ran the Congress they didn't have such sizeable margins, particularly in the Senate. If Dems stick together they can implement darn near anything they want. Who's to stop them when you get right down to it? Elections mean something - and Dems rule the roost.

This is true. The question is, do they have the intestinal fortitude to do it?

By the way dude, you're one of the sane ones on the DR. Hope you and yours are doing OK.

You can't trust the word of Obama. He is a lying scumbag. Just look at the waterboarding prosecution flip-flop. His big promise to end the war in Iraq was a pile of crap too.

Love how dumb liberals want to ban assault weapon "style" rifles. They know nothing about guns and base opinions on how the rifle looks. A .30-06 round, is a huge round and is common in hunting yet its rifles don't appear on the old ban lists. Yet the .223, a much smaller round, is fired from military "style" weapons which are banned. Just stupid.

Most urban crimes are overwhelmingly committed by handguns not assault weapons. Geez!

Furio... Most "white trash" carry guns to protect themselves from black trash criminals.

I have every gun I ever bought save my Browning High Power, my Colt Python and two Auto Mags I sold to Joe McBride to make tuition payments in the 70's when I was in grad school.

I said "hi" to Joe two days ago.

Come by tomorrow ... www.austinrifleclub.org

"They trashed the White House!"
The 2001 post-election lie/scare

"They're comin' after our guns!"
The 2009 post-election lie/scare

"They trashed the White House!"
The 2001 post-election lie/scare

It wasn't a lie/scare. There was vandalism done in the white house as the clinton administration was leaving

May 18, 2001 the General Accounting Office issued a three-page letter that said that it was unable confirm the damage largely to a lack of records from the White House. The letter also said that the condition of the White House offices was "...consistent with what we would expect to encounter when tenants vacate office space after an extended occupancy."

www.truthorfiction.com

...that said that it was unable confirm...

Doesn't mean it didn't happen. I remember even in the news that Bush said if it happened he wasn't going to pursue the issue

"Doesn't mean it didn't happen."

Correct. It means there are differing opinions, and after an investigation, the GAO couldn't be sure of what you seem to be sure of. What do you know that they don't?

What do you know that they don't?

A first hand account of some stories that coincided with the first media reports like superglued 'W' on keyboards.

"A first hand account of some stories"

They told you personally?

Why wouldn't they have said the same things to the GAO?

"that coincided with the first media reports like superglued 'W' on keyboards."

Gee...I wonder which news "media" outlet would have claimed that....

Oh, that's right...Matt Drudge, followed closely by World Nut Daily.

"The accounting office confirmed that $9,324 had been spent to repair or replace various items and to clean offices. That included $4,850 for 62 keyboards, $2,040 for 26 cellphones and $1,150 for professional cleaning. In addition, the White House and the General Services Administration estimated that it cost $3,750 to $4,675 to replace missing doorknobs, medallions and office signs and the large presidential seal, the accounting office said. " NYT 6-12-2002

Oh My God What outrageous amounts. Hang 'em high.

Considering I spend 600/mo on housekeeping 1,150 seems like a bargain, maybe I could get the housekeeper's phone number.

Goatman, how much did you take with you when you got out of the Navy? I got a combo wrench set and a ship's flag. Maybe I should write a check to someone.

Why wouldn't they have said the same things to the GAO?

Within days after Bush took office and as these stories were coming out, Bush said he did not want to pursue it. I presume he influenced the GAO's report. That's not so unbelievable considering he controlled the world's oil market and engineered the WTC bombings, is it? LOL

Oh My God What outrageous amounts

I never said it was outrageous amounts. I merely disputed Sam Barber's (and now Danforth's) assertion that vandalism never happened.

"and now Danforth's) assertion that vandalism never happened."

Who said that?

I merely found a link proving the GAO--after an investigation--was unable to label it vandalism. Something you seem to be able to do without leaving the ship.

"Do you have a link to the law that says it's illegal to brandish a weapon without using it? And then the link to where that charge is significant enough to confiscate said person's guns?"

You are the poster child for my point about white trash waving their guns around.

Threatening someone with deadly weapon without cause is not a crime? typical white trash attitude.

By brandishing a weapon you are showing intent to use deadly force. It constitutes an assault in every state. Some are more severe than others. You could get a felony conviction which means little white trash gets his ass reamed in jail and loses his precious guns.

Here's a thread from a gun board discussing the issue www.firearmstalk.com

...was unable to label it vandalism.

So you don't think Bush could have influenced that report? How convenient for you and the left that he had these extraordainary global powers during his terms, but he couldn't influence a simple GAO report. LOL

Texas gun dealers??? yikes!!

a possible re-think is in order . . .
if I'm a billionaire cartel guy & need firearms, would I - -

a) smuggle my illegals w/suitcases of cash into the USA . . . those who made it must stop at a Seven-Eleven to buy IDs & slushies before hitting the gun stores . . . ouch - - 75% of the IDs fail the background check . . . anyway, whomever is left must then smuggle the load of guns & leftover cash back across the border to Mexico.

ooops, not done yet . . the guns then gotta go to Pauncho's all-nite machine shop for conversion to "full-auto"

OR

b) have my purchasing dept acquire a boat-load of Chinese/Czeck military arms . . .
logistics dept will arrange shipment to my warehouse up thru Guatemala

See white trash comes to argue against proper law enforcement.

Little White Trash,

1) the gang wars are near the border. Why would they transport weapons half way around the world when they can get them just across the border? You obviously know nothing about logistics.

2) the money for the guns is not shipped across the border as you ignorantly suggest it is from the proceeds of drug sales in the US.

3) The people buying the guns are most likely US citizens. They are middle men Einstein.

4) Background checks? You are showing your white trash ignorance again. Gun shows don't require background checks. And there are enough gun dealers that will simply sell illegally for enough money. And background checks only pick up priors.

5) It's so simple to have a machine shop to convert guns.

Why would they transport weapons half way around the world when they can get them just across the border?

furball; atty General Holden's FARC pals are just down the road in Columbia . .
they sell foreign military armament for fun & profit

Background checks? You are showing your white trash ignorance again. Gun shows don't require background checks.
furball; ever been to a gun show??
since 1998 Brady bill . . NICS, ei; instant criminal check system - - easy math, that's 10+ yrs ago

gun dealers that will simply sell illegally for enough money.
furball; you're insisting a billionaire would
a) pay way too much north of the border for an assortment unfinshed civilian products??
instead of -
b) buying bulk military arms to order from the south??

tsk-tsk

background checks only pick up priors.
kudos, I'll concede that point . . at this time background checks DO NOT have the ability to pick up "futures"

"furball; atty General Holden's FARC pals are just down the road in Columbia . .
they sell foreign military armament for fun & profit"

Again idgit try moving it. ship it? Even harder to move without getting caught. Transport through several central american countries and then all the way through Mexico? again studid idea. Why got through all the hassle when the guns can be bought 30 miles away?

"furball; you're insisting a billionaire would
a) pay way too much north of the border for an assortment unfinshed civilian products??
instead of -
b) buying bulk military arms to order from the south??"

You are dealing with multiple gangs do you think they have a Gun Walmart in mexico for all the drug dealers to purchase from? Tie up all purchases in one shipment? Kind of stupid even if impossible.

"since 1998 Brady bill . . NICS, ei; instant criminal check system - - easy math, that's 10+ yrs ago"

Depends on which state idgit. Arizona and Texas don't require private dealers to do background checks. Guns shows are not being policed nearly enough anyway because of all the crying from the little gun bitches.

Depends on which state idgit. Arizona and Texas don't require private dealers to (check)

furball; actually the "N" in NICS stands for "National" ... ie: including all "57" states -
it's something you can look up if someone will help ya with google.

btw, ya may wanna get a neighborhood kid to tutor ya on html tags,
your posts wouldn't seem so jumbled

"So you don't think Bush could have influenced that report? "

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight...the first thing Bush did after assuming office was keep the truth from the American people. Yeah, now that you mention it, it's pretty easy to believe.
