The unique strain of swine flu found in seven people in California and Texas has been connected to the deadly flu that has broken out in Mexico, killing as many as 60 people, NBC News has confirmed.

I'm sure the Jester of Jutland will arrive shortly to tell us all how this is the work of our Reptilian Overlords.

"Mexican Swine Sickness May Spread!"

Ay Carumba!

Caramba verdaderamente. Los chanchos son muy enfermas...y nosotros tambien.

Once again, food safety leaps to the fore. One might reasonably expect this threat to finally force a complete overhaul of the system with an emphasis on sustainable practices. Make Joel Salatin Secretary of Agriculture and get our crops in order. Ahh, wishful thinking...

"This flu will make you want to decal your surname in Old English lettering across the rear window of your truck and blast wild Mexican circus music from your speakers..."

"One might reasonably expect this threat to finally force a complete overhaul of the system with an emphasis on sustainable practices. "

The EPA is hamstringed, legally prevented from even trying to enforce some standards.

Not to mention ethically challenged by the incursion of so many high level business leaders as policy heads. The revolving door between business and politics is still spinning...

This swine flu has now entered the U.S. with confirmed cases in both California and Texas. It's only a matter of time until it travels across the U.S. The medical field has said we are long overdue for a pandemic outbreak and this might be it.

From the article:

The virus was first detected in two children in southern California a 10-year-old boy in San Diego County and a 9-year-old girl in neighboring Imperial County....On Thursday, investigators said they had discovered five more cases. That includes a father and his teenage daughter in San Diego County, a 41-year-old woman in Imperial County who was the only person hospitalized, and two 16-year-old boys who are friends and live in Guadalupe County, Texas, near San Antonio....The Texas cases are especially puzzling. One of the California cases the 10-year-old boy traveled to Texas early this month, but that was to Dallas, about 270 miles northeast of San Antonio. He did not travel to the San Antonio area,...

At first I just brushed this off as another media "swine flu" scare hype but Mexico City has shut down all their schools and are doing mass vacinations. Usually it's infants and the elderly who have weakened immune systems who are affected the hardest, but this flu is different and is taking out young adults who normally don't succumb to flu symtoms as easily. This particular strain of flu might be something to keep a close eye on .

Chris, swine flu, like bird flu, is just another socialist hoax.

Sincerely,
Ray

vacinations = vaccinations

damn! and I'm sitting here drinking a Corona!

Mexico City's now in lockdown.

Ay Dios mio! No me moleste! El carne de cerdo es muerte!!

somebody was talking about muslims needing to switch to swine. cause of birdflu mad cow, etc

well guys
you were wrong haha

i still won't dine on swine.

That was me, and it was a joke. Nobody got it. Pigs are the animal in which "bird flu" can swap genetic material with human-adapted flu strains and create a virus with the potential to cause a pandemic. If anything, China and SE Asia need to go vegetarian - or at least dump the swine. Make it harder for the bug.

Right now, the hippies are the ones with the right idea. They're vegetarian, so they aren't contributing to demand for pigs (and more pig populaitons + human/pig interaction). And, hippies have cool drum circles and they'll always match you on a bowl.

Another reason to control the borders.

i still won't dine on swine.

"Another reason to control the borders."

I saw that they're not planning on closing the borders. I hope there is a plan to close them quickly if this thing gets out of hand. People from Mexico can get her easily and in large enough numbers as is, but throw a epidemic on the situation and there could be a mass exodus across or border which would dramatically increase the likelihood of it spreading here. Not good.

Another reason to control the borders.

A virus is not going to be stopped by a fence. Air travelers will bring it here.

There's no reason to panic about this. Matt Drudge is coming unglued about it on his site, but a lot of different things have to happen for a flu to become a pandemic. So far, most of them have not happened, and the number of deaths in Mexico is probably reflective of a crappy health care infrastructure.

"Matt Drudge is coming unglued "

Your tense is wrong.

We are up to 4 cases in San Diego..

So cover your mouth when someone is coughing by you and wash your hands.

And wear a condom..

I am not sure what that means--but it's funny..lol

All very sound advice.

The Jester of Jutland is lil' Jeffy and our Reptilian Overlords... well... I think it's better for you to read for yourself.

Matt Drudge has to be curled up into the fetal position right now - half of their stories are about different ways everything can go to shit.

"about different ways everything can go to shit"

Must be reading Ray's posts.

Come on! You can't tell me you did'nt see this coming. obamster has got to kill off a few hundred million to prep the world for the his lord and master, the antichrist. The world is overpopulated, and it is'nt beyond that worthless pile of human waste to kill off any rightwing strongholes. He has already passed the hospital bill to the American tax-payer providing abortions to non-Americans, this guy really is a piece of shit.

"A virus is not going to be stopped by a fence. Air travelers will bring it here."

Wouldn't closing the borders include stopping all forms of transportation from crossing (except for American citizens)? It should.

there was a flu back in the fifties here in the states called the swine flu. i know it was a tough flu to go thru, i caught it back then, very weak, very high temp, aches and pains in places i didn't know i had.
my step mother had to call the docotr, and he came to the house to see me---yes in those days doctors came to your house, yes i'm that old.
any way in between my doctor, anitbiotics of some kind, an my step mom useing an old portugese remedy i came out of it. i sure hope this flu is not as bad a the swine flu that i had.
back in 1919 when my granfather was in the army and stationed at the armory in sprinfield , mass. they had a very bad flu that kill thousands in the USA. but they didn't have the medical where thee all to fight it. now we do, an hopefully they can combat it.

What does failed-radio-boy know?

You couldn't get the sound on your mic fixed, you sure as hell aren't capable enough to comment on matters beyond your intellect.

And learn to spell "opprosses" correctly. LOL

Fact is, you eat swine, you are asking for trouble. It is no accident that most of the terrible flues in the last century came from China and SE.Asia.

Zombie is right... veggie is the best. With fish.

Zombie is right... veggie is the best. With fish.

No, bacon is the best. Fuck vegetarianism. Life's too short to eat shitty food.

You just want to say the opposite of what I say, so people can point to you and say "he is a prick too, but a different kind of prick".

I know you.

You just want to say the opposite of what I say, ...

Only if it is the truth.

Have rabbit-food 4 days out of seven. Have chicken 2 days and fish once a week.

And have lots of yogurt.

Only if it is the truth.

You can't handle the truth!

Have rabbit-food 4 days out of seven. Have chicken 2 days and fish once a week.

And have lots of yogurt.

Fuck . . .

Oh Proud-Peacock! Will eat a rabbit but too stuck-up to eat rabbit-food?

The proud will fall.

You can't handle the truth!

*sigh*

Ok. What food do I really like? It must not be bacon (much to my surprise)

I had to look to see if that was boyd posting. Usually he's the one who tells me what I think, what I like, etc.

ll eat a rabbit but too stuck-up to eat rabbit-food?

Pride has nothing to do with it. It's all about taste.

Ok. What food do I really like?

Chickpeas. You gotto like chickpeas.

See me buying chickpea breakfast cooked in a bucket.

www.youtube.com

You gotto like chickpeas.

Only as hummus. Even then, they make me fart too much.

Pride has nothing to do with it. It's all about taste.

Pride has everything to do with it.

You think you are better than a rabbit. You deny the rights of rabbits. If it were up to you, rabbits would never get the right to vote or drive a car.

Pride has everything to do with it.

No it doesn't. As I said, it is all about taste.

I'm not going to argue with you about what I think. How absurd is that?

Later

Only as hummus.

Hummus is Arab food, so don't mention it in front of me.

I am offering gen-u-wine Pak breakfast. The breakfast of champs.

And no, it doesn't make you fart.

I'm not going to argue with you about what I think. How absurd is that?

Amazing.

You think you are better than a rabbit. You deny the rights of rabbits. If it were up to you, rabbits would never get the right to vote or drive a car.

I always thought Rabbits were people too. Same with chickens and hamsters.

At one time we raised 16 Rabbits 30 Chickens 27 Hamsters 32 mice 100+ guppies 2 dogs 2 Parakeets and 2 catfish. That was in a span between 7 years of age til I was an 8th grader. I wanted a pig but being a city slicker I couldn't have them. I always thought a pigs nose was so cute and cuddly looking. Yeah I am one major fruitcake I agree. I don't care though. I'd rather be a freak of nature than a Gawd awful prim and proper hoity toity prickazoidal infucktion. Normal is so overrated.

"any way in between my doctor, anitbiotics of some kind, an my step mom useing an old portugese remedy i came out of it."

The Flu is a virus, doctors who prescribe antibiotics for viral infections are doing nothing to help the patient and actually contributing to a problem of Bacteria becoming more resistant to the the antibiotics we have

My pigs are doing great. Of course, they're free ranging, digging up yuca and feasting on platanos and coconuts. I have about 18 now, down from a high of 38 a year ago, waiting for the new brood to come on before I start selling some more off, or eating them myself. And the lambs are still bounding around, occasionally finding their way onto the parilla as well. Delicious.

Chicken is an ok protein, but no comparison to grass fed beef, it just doesn't have enough of the right fats. Fish is a good choice, at least here where the mercury isn't very high, otherwise stay away from the bigger predatory species. Pastured pork remains a nutritious food, but like anything, not too much. Salads and tons of good greens and fruits are crucial, naturally. As long as you're not eating tofu and other overly processed foods and oils, and not eating too much of any one thing, you'll be alright.

"Eat food, not too much, mostly plants."
