(CBS/AP) President Barack Obama is leaving the door to open to possible prosecution of Bush administration officials who devised harsh terrorism-era interrogation tactics.

He also said Tuesday that he worries about the impact of high-intensity hearings on how detainees were treated under former President George W. Bush. But Mr. Obama did say, nevertheless, he could support a congressional investigation if it were conducted in a bipartisan way.

"IF it were done in a bipartisan way."

That's a really big if.

Every administration needs to have all sorts of contingency plans for any even remotely conceivable event available beforehand so if 0bama prosecutes the folks who write up such plans he'll be shortchanging his options in any eventual crisis. If he pushes for/cooperates with congressional hearings (or just prosecutes) aimed at Bush administration officials who implemented plans that his administration supposedly feels are objectionable it could well come back to bite him in his own ass someday.

My hunch is he won't allow it to happen or at the very most make scapegoats of some middling nondescript midlevel officials and baste in his self-serving non legitimate glory as politicians are wont to do.

"administration supposedly feels are objectionable "

Replace "objectionable" with "illegal" and you're on to something.

The last thing we need to introduce in this partisan over logic era is attacking the previous administration legally.

I would probably understand the lefts stance on torture better if I thought they really, really, cared about the terrorists well being in regards to the torture issue.
But you don't,all you care about is bringing Bush down.
There is some type of moral disconnect here....yeah yeah I get it.

But you don't,all you care about is bringing Bush down.

Um...hate to break this to you and all, but Bush has been brought down...about 4 months ago. We have a new President.

Sorry Kanrei you don't have to remind me about anything. And don't play word games with me either.
Read the other threads about prosecuting Bush and other officals with war crimes.
Faux outrage of the left is so laughable that its sad.

Read my opinion on charging Bush:

It was in this thread.

I wonder if Rightwinger is aware that heads of other states have been tried and convicted for the very same thing that the Bush administration has admitted to doing.

Oh, I'm sure he thinks it was a miscarriage of justice.

These lawyers that the DOJ should go after are like CPAs who knowingly filed false tax returns.

The tax payer, (CIA Agents) just did what the CPA, (Bush legal team) said was corect.

The tax payer doesn't go to jail, the CPA does.

Screw charging the cocksuckers. Just 'disappear' them down to Gitmo and forget about them for 6 years or so. Then we can 'remember' them and quietly release them, if we can find any country that will take them.

I don't always agree with you but I do read your posts.
Your post is unrelated to the subject I brought up.Just because you have a level head doesn't mean it applies everywhere.

Why does the Obama administration have such a problem getting their message straight?

Just Sunday, "Emanuel said the president believes they "should not be prosecuted either and that's not the place that we go."
www.chicagotribune.com

And last week, Obama said "at a time of great challenges and disturbing disunity, nothing will be gained by spending our time and energy laying blame for the past."

So why the sudden change?

So why the sudden change?

A few idiots threw a tea party.

Any serious answers out there?

Because the public loves him whipping on Bush, hates quite a bit of his policies, and he is slipping in the polls. When in doubt, give them what they want.

Could it be the people in question continue to pop up on Fox News to defend themselves by attacking his policies?

As far as polls, Obama is up in the latest.

Show Me the Money Obama until You do You are just like a Man talking with a paper asshole the shit just keeps spewing forth. I'll believe it when I see it.

Starting with Bush the Stupid on down. We are only just now learning of the direct lies told by Bush concerning the number of times that waterboarding was performed. From his small, limited number of times to the real truth 100's and more. The tag team of Bush the Stupid and his Clown Prince Cheney the Evil One have lied wholesale.

This wasn't something as minor as a hummer but torture. Let them receive the same in an attempt to garner the truth. It won't happen because we at least, have morals.
