Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The fiscal shift in the Reagan years was staggering. In January 1981, when Reagan declared the federal budget to be "out of control," the deficit had reached almost $74 billion, the federal debt $930 billion. Within two years, the deficit was $208 billion. The debt by 1988 totaled $2.6 trillion. In those eight years, the United States moved from being the world's largest international creditor to the largest debtor nation.

Who's "hugh defecit, and why would you want to run one up the poor guy?

Sorry about the typo in the headline.

Couldn't resist.

Ginormus?

726,

I am not sure how to describe it, but it's a political oddity, but a form of Nixon's paradox comes to mind.

Another one is actually called the Barak (Ehud)paradox.

Altough the paradox's pertain to "Hawks&Doves", it can also be useful by a politician in any situation of diametrically opposing political ideas. Nixon was an expert at this, he was a student of history, and learned what Disraeli did in Israel.

For instance only a Republican could create the EPA, with the ease that he did.

A Democrat can go to war, and a Republican can raise the deficit, all with relative ease, of the backing of his party, and the opposition.

So, given this paradox, if we actually want fiscal responsibility it can only come from the Democratic side of the aisle.

Republicans generally spend to fuel the war machine and Democrats usually spend to help those less fortunate. I prefer to spend on those less fortunate rather than an attempt to kill people.

......it's better if you kill them........

.....you won't have to spend more money killing them twice......

....whereas when you help the poor ....... .... .

I still don't understand how Christians are such strong backers of the right wing? Either we have a bunch of hypocritical Christians in this country or they are pretty ignorant as to what the bible actually says. I get the whole abortion thing but I can't seem to find anything else Jesus would like about the right wing.

I agree with you Rasta. The abortion issue is the foundation of why they end up supporting the right wing so much of the time when they absolutely shouldn't be.

I prefer to spend on those less fortunate rather than an attempt to kill people.

You always say republicans are less fortunate than democrats. You tell me I am a republican.

When do I get my check?

I never said you were less fortunate. Just the opposite. Poorer people tend to drift left.

When if comes to running giant deficits, it seems to be an equal-opportunity program, governed by today's fashionable Affirmative Action quotas.

Therefore, a black man from a one-parent household whose father was an immigrant from Africa is allowed 3x the deficit spending of a white male from Texas.

I never said you were less fortunate.

LOL. Liar or bad memory?

You've spent many a night telling me how superior you are to me. Sometimes you stepped on your own dick and said it was due to the unions (read: you couldn't do it on your own) but you have more than once attempted to convince me of your superiority.

When do I get my money?

I think you are a moron for not being in the union because you don't have protection if your employee decides to screw you. I however never said you were less fortunate. You were the one bragging about how much money you make. I simply let you know your boss can take it all away in a second if they decide they don't like your shoes. You know the whole right to get fired state mentality.

"Therefore, a black man from a one-parent household whose father was an immigrant from Africa is allowed 3x the deficit spending of a white male from Texas."

There you have the over-simplified version of events ready for dissemination to the simpletons on the right.
The birth of a talking point.

Doubtful.

1) they'd be losing a good employee and it would cost a lot of time an money to hire and train someone to take my place. Kind of silly business decision to base on footware. Maybe a democrat thinks that way, but not a for-profit republican. And I wisely work for republicans.
(I think I'm beginning to see why everyone thinks successful businessmen are right wingers. The left wingers fire their good employees for stupid things like shoes and the business fails)

2) as a 30+ year veteran of corporate American, I've never seen anyone unjustly fired, and I am not vain enough to think I'll be the first.

To clarify something ratsa: I could get fired for my shoes. I am required to wear steel toed lace up boots. If I don't, I lose my job. But that would be a justifiable firing.

Goat there is always somebody better than you so don't be such a pompous ass to think you can't be fired for a bunch of reasons like the bosses nephew needs a job.

Just google unjust firings and read the horror stories. I have seen them firsthand.

You might be the biggest troll and waste of oxygen here.

???

I'm not being pompous. I never said I couldn't be replaced. I'm sure there are thousands of ETs better than me at what I do. But the fact remains, it would take a large investment of time and money to replace me. You can't walk off the street and know how to work on an oil rig, its equipment, safety regs, paperwork, etc.

I have seen them firsthand.

Judging from your experiences in life and what you have seen (based on your posts) you hang out with the dregs of society. So when you tell me you have seen the worst that can happen to people, I believe it. I've suggested before that you hand around different people. The advice is still valid. There's an entire different world out there than the pitiful one you choose to surround yourself with.

I choose to hang out with a better segment of society than you, and work at better places than you so I don't see things like unjust firings and evil people around every corner.

I gather you are relatively young. It's not too late to elevate yourself and become part of something better, ratsa.

Let's not forget how the white man from Texas used creative bookkeeping to under report his true deficits.

There you have the over-simplified version of events ready for dissemination to the simpletons on the right.

Only democrats are allowed to make over-simplified versions of events and disseminate them to their own simpletons on the left.

Who was the "white man from Texas?" Bush was born and raised in New England.

Let's not forget how Obama bragged about cutting $100 million while proposing budgets that the CBO say will increase the debt by $9.3 trillion over the next decade.

From 2000 to 2008 federal debt increased $4.35 trillion dollars, or an average of $544 billion dollars per year, but the "record" federal deficit for 2008 was $482 billion.

Creative accounting.

Straw man alert!

Who would've guess that 726 would respond with a weak straw man post?

#7 Rastaninja> I still don't understand how Christians are such strong backers of the right wing?

'Conservative values' most likely.

RN> Either we have a bunch of hypocritical Christians in this country or they are pretty ignorant as to what the bible actually says.

That old 'render unto Caesar' verse is probably a main component of the thought process.

RN> I get the whole abortion thing but I can't seem to find anything else Jesus would like about the right wing.

Abortion is one of the biggest deciding factors that many Christians use as a litmuis test when choose which candidate to vote for. When liberals think of 'supporting the less fortunate', they tend to do so through government programs. Not only are almost all government programs (for helping the less fortunately) very inefficient compared to private charities, they also support groups/agendas that Christians do not agree with.

I don't consider government programs 'charitable' since it is enforced at gunpoint. Better to give money to the local homeless shelter where 90% percent (or more) actually goes to those in need.

Other things Christians will likely agree with those on the political right are family values, anti-gay-marriage, strong defense, etc.

#22 726> Creative accounting.

Like the way they (both parties) declare something 'off budget' and it never enters into their accounting scheme? Man, wouldn't that be nice to do for us plebians? I don't think the taxman or any decent accountant would touch it with a ten foot pole. But when pols write the rules, that's the crazy way they run things. Another would be the Social Security Ponzi scheme.
