Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Saturday, April 18, 2009

U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday greeted and shook hands with Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez during an impromptu meeting with the anti-U.S. leader at the Summit of the Americas. Photographs released by the Venezuelan government showed Chavez, a fierce foe of former President George W. Bush, smiling and clasping hands with Obama at the start of the summit of Latin American and Caribbean leaders in Trinidad. "I greeted Bush with this hand eight years ago; I want to be your friend," Chavez told Obama, according to a Venezuelan presidential press office statement.

Nah, they don't need an apartment. Just a motel that rents by the hour.

Drop your linens at the office when you leave.

Looks like you need to get a life.

Did Obammy bow?

I am sure he got on his knees this time.

More like:

"Buzzkiller and stupid sittin' in a tree, blowin' each other."

Looks like you need to get a life.

~DOC_SARVIS

Pathetically this is his life...

Hussein's soulmate Hugo Chavez.

I bet Hussein is asking for tips on how to jail hostile media types like Limbaugh and Hannity.

Chavez, 'Hey Obama, here is a book about US imperialism.'

Hussein, 'Thanks buddy, but I already have it.'

'Now let's get some alone time in the bathroom.'

Meet? Birds of a feather is more like it.

Obama's next "Apology Tour": Asia

The Rtards are out in force on this one, eh?

You don't have a single fucking clue between the lot of you of the number of murders, deaths, disappearances, rapes and torture sessions the US has caused in South America, do ya?

Such useful idiots you are.

The Cuban Embargo is as insane as it is inhumane.

Chaves while not a perfect specimen of humanity aint as bad as the reichwingnuts would have you believe.

The simple fact that many of America's erstwhile detractors are giving Obama the benefit of the doubt here despite years of abuse by the US is a good thing.

Don't expect you to believe Spud but thought it was worth mentioning.

Be Well.

Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?
.............Abraham Lincoln

Yea, Hugo Chavez is a great guy Spud.....

See how far that will get ya.

We now know there are 3 people who get all warm and fuzzy around Hugo, shakey Joe Kennedy, Spud, and President Hussein.

Maybe you should read up on your new hero Spud.

Knowledge is power.

Agreed.

Maybe you should read up on your new hero Spud.

Spud didn't call him an angel just sed that he's not the devil the rtard set try and make him out to be.

That makes him Spud's hero in yer book?

LOL.

Maybe you should read up on yer own countries history.

Just a thought.

Be Well.

Noam Chomsky?

Bwahahahahahaha......

You need to stop subjecting your brain to that filth Spud.

So, Chavez called Obama an ignoramus a while back. He called Bush worst. Now Obama meets Chavez, and shakes his hands. The President has to be careful. Chavez is a friend of Iran and Castro. The friends of our enemies should not be considered our friends. And the enemies of our friends should be considered our enemies. Isn't that how the saying goes? Keep stimulus packages from Chavez Mr. President. Somehow, Chavez has pulled a Baby Doc Duvalier stunt and has become President For Life of Venezuela, and the silence from lover of democracy, Jimmy Carter, of Plains, Georgia, is deafening. Any money that you may be considering for Chavez, that is, if we still have some left, should be given to Haiti. The people of Venezuela know how to take care of persons like Chavez. Romulo Betancourt and Marcos Perez Jimenez found that out. Romulo and Marcos fell into a Venezuelan democracy ring of fire. They went down, down, down, and the flames went higher. And it burned, burned, burned, the ring of fire, the ring of fire, the ring of fire. I don't think Johnny would mind me using those words. The rest, well, it can be looked up, since it it history.

Spud wrote,

"You don't have a single fucking clue between the lot of you of the number of murders, deaths, disappearances, rapes and torture sessions the US has caused in South America, do ya?"

Actually I would like you to give us a list since you claim knowledge of all these attrocities.

How many murders?

How many disappearances?

Torture sessions?

Also a list of sources.

Wot, little spudkins was just blowin smoke out his ass and doesn't have any actual evidence to back up his big mouth.

Ya say spud just overheard a couple code pinks talking out their ass and decided to spread it around.

First Obama genuflected to an A-rab and now's he gone and shaken the Hand of Chavez(TM).

Goddamm rightie fags. Always with the gay shit.

How many murders?

How many disappearances?

Torture sessions?

You want exact numbers?

LOL.

Spud aint got time to write the several books required to full in the gaps in yer knowledge base but cos Spud is generous Spud'll give you a few names to google.

Start with the CIA coup that expelled Mosadegh from Iran and installed the murderous, torturous Shah of Iran.

Once you've learned a little something of that clusterfuck work your way into...

Suharto
Saddam Hussein.
Klaus Barbie.
Noriega.
Laurent Kabila.
Francisco Franco.
Pinochet.
Marco Arevalo
Somoza.
Marcos.
Batista.
Porfiro Diaz.
Rafael Trujillo.
Papa Doc Duvalier.
Baby Doc Duvalier.

A partial list at best.

America's victims number in the hundreds of thousands, perhaps millinos.

The silence of the American media when it's not actively lying to you is deafening.

Beleive it or no it's still the truth.

Truth that has been deliberately kept from you in yer insulated cocoon of propaganda media.

Many of the sources are the declassified reports of the US Government itself with confirming data coming from surviving eye witnesses and various human right watch organisations around the globe.

Be Well.

Great list of new heros Spud.

Here's to that list growing and growing and growing!

Great list of new heros Spud

Wot part of "these are people America supported and defended for years through the worst of their human rights violations" are you simply not getting?

Here's to that list growing and growing and growing!

No, here's to America growing up and out of the habit of supporting iron fisted dictators over democratically elected populists in order to fatten the bottom line of the investment class in the US who set DC's agenda.

Here's to Americans waking up from their slumbers and realising that they've been played for fools and treated like half bright step kids for years until yer government has become less than the participatory democracy yer forefathers envisioned.

Spud'll drink to THAT.

Be Well.

I always suspected you of being a big Klaus Barbie fan, Rex Zeitgeist.

Wow. Stumbled on this site by googling 'Obama Chavez' and it appears we have quite the polarized group here (kind of like the US electorate).

If folks would just put two and two together and imagine what the US will look like after 4 years of Obama, maybe they'd start to wake up. When our freedom of speech is gone, military gutted, businesses nationalized (effectively through government meddling), and history fully revised, we will have more in common with Venezuela than we think. And if you don't see why that's a problem, then there's not much hope for you.

By the way, I just love how everyone criticizes the US for backing anti-communists during the Cold War. I suppose you'd rather we have allowed the USSR to run roughshod over the globe unopposed.

You're right, LoneJustice, two years plus two years does equal four years.

Don't mind boyd/beteleg/cooper/badweek, Lonejustice, he's just our local blog twat.

I'm glad you're back, Rex Zeitgeist, even though you said your good-nights a while ago. Before you left, you were about to explain your admiration for Klaus Barbie.

Chaves is a dictator all of a sudden?

Spud distinctly remembers elections.

The population thinks they are free and fair.

The opposition thinks they are free and fair.

International observers called them free and fair.

The exit polls lined up with the voting results better than the results seen on the 2000 and 2004 elections in the US.

Spud even remembers Chaves losing a referendum.

Do dictators lose referendums? EVAR?

Are you sure yer not living in a two party dictatorship masquerading as a participatory democracy?

Think fer a sec before you answer that one.

No white knuckles, chuckles.

Just the occasional sigh at the propagandised state of far too many Americans who aren't even bright enuff to recognise when they're being played.

At least when Ruskies back in the bad ole days of the USSR picked up their copies of Pravda they were bright enuff to know they were reading propaganda for the most part and tried to read between the lines.

Most Americans? Not so much.

That's all.

Also there's larfs aplenty here and the weekly music thread is a hoot!

military gutted,

Have you actually seen the US military budget?

businesses nationalized

If you mean Wall street shuffling toxic debt back onto the taxpayer so that they can return to corporate welfare state of privitised profits and subsidised losses? Sure.

See wot Spud means, Slow?

Farkin' clueless.

Be Well.

Spud goes carbohydrate, "You've obviously mistaken the 'Retort' for 'Free Republic'."

Whoa! I suppose you've had some trouble posting on the Freep? Are you perhaps disallowed to post due to your idiot, albeit arrogant, one-linerisms?

If you do actually have the courage to post your propaganda there, let me know and I'll come and watch ...

Whoa! I suppose you've had some trouble posting on the Freep?

Spud went to Freeperworld before coming to the Retort 4 1/2 years ago.

Made two posts before being booted off.

Apparently, anyone not in lockstep (goosestep?) with their agenda is disallowed posting privileges and their words are disappeared through a form of electronic revisionism in an effort to make it appear that there is no dissent there beyond the bounds of wot they consider expressable within their sterile echo chamber.

Thus Freeper-worlds loss was the Retort's gain.

And while RCade may occasionally make noises about taking free speech behind the barn and wringing its neck with his own two hands Spud finds that this lefty leaning site places a much higher value (which is to say some) on the ideal of free speech than any comparable righty leaning site you wish to name.

Thanx fer taking a interest in the posting history of the Tater O' Doom!

Be Well.

Spudkins wrote,

"Chaves is a dictator all of a sudden?" Not all of a sudden but for about 10 years now!

"Spud distinctly remembers elections." Saddam Hussein had elections also. Chavez's was more rigged than an Illinois senate seat appointment.

"The population thinks they are free and fair." Wot, did you read this in communist weekly. I distinctly remember lots of protest, Chavez shutting down opposition and a TV station that ran ads opposing him, etc.

"The opposition thinks they are free and fair." Spudkins is on the sauce again. Many of the opposition is in hiding including a mayor that is being criminally and politically targeted.

Venezuelan Opposition in Hiding, Behind Bars as Chavez Widens Crackdown

www.foxnews.com

"International observers called them free and fair." Let me guess, they are from Iran, Syria, Russia, etc.

"The exit polls lined up with the voting results better than the results seen on the 2000 and 2004 elections in the US."

Chavez rigged his election by using his power to control his rivals access to media, and bribing just about every other public official in Venezuela.

"Spud even remembers Chaves losing a referendum."

Not for tring to rig it also. I believe it was a referendum to make him dictator for life. I am sure ole spudkins would have lost it had George W. brought such a bill before the american congress.

Thanks fer playing spuds. Sorry you lost. We have some nice parting gifts for you. Tell him what he won Johnny.

Spuds you have won a years supply of pickled squirrel nuts(a favorite of canadians).

All the gay innuendo from the right is comical, especially when they staunchly defended Bush as he strolled hand-in-hand through the flowers with a Saudi Prince, from the same nation as 15 of the 19 hijackers who killed 3000 American civilians.

I think ole spud wants to do a three way circle jerk with Obama and Chavez.

Nothing like a dick-tater to get ole spuds slobbering.

Foxnews?

LOL!

Buzzy FAILS.

You do realise that Dumbya tried to take Chaves down in a Coup don't you?

That some of the people Chaves has taken down since then were part of that coup attempt?

And that those folks are prolly being treated better in prison there than the American detainess in Gitmo, Afghanistan, Iraq and black sites around the world?

Be Well.

Spud admits, "Made two posts before being booted off. Apparently, anyone not in lockstep (goosestep?) with their agenda is disallowed posting privileges and their words are disappeared through a form of electronic revisionism in an effort to make it appear that there is no dissent there beyond the bounds of wot they consider expressable within their sterile echo chamber."

Are you confusing the site with Cadenhead.org? The rules for posting are stated at the Freep, and where repetition of asked-and-answered commentary is removed. You must have parroted your typical misdirections, there, huh?

Your typical one-line paragraphs are unacceptable as reasonable discussion of the issues! That's why you are here! Because, you are incapable of any intellectually reasonable explanation in support of your commentary. So comments like: 'Spud knows that Bushco is a pack of liars,' would not meet the criteria of acceptable debate on the Freep.

Just too bad you lack the discipline and, apparently, the ability to discuss the issues in depth and reasonably; however emotionally or supported, if insulting presumptions.

Since only your type of hysterical, or arrogant propaganda is removed routinely, I knew that you had been deleted as just another stupid, however arrogant leftist ...

you mean Obama or his effing hack janet napolitano? she's not a guy no matter how much she may appear to be one.

I suppose this is as good of thread as any to point out the hypocrisy of the left. Here, you see Samebo, tea-bagging the friends of our enemies while the rest of the obamabots teabag him from home.

Now interestingly, some people get pissed off at the "gay" references. (See #23 for example). However, even if true, I thought gay was something to be proud of and be encouraged. You wouldn't want to be a homophobe would you? (This logic the same twisted logic that allows the dems to teabag samebo while making racial slurs about Justice Thomas.)

Then we get to the issue of freedom of speech. This one is even more fun. First of all the "speech" that you are mentioning went a lot farther then "dissent" (Calling the war illegal, the president and the vice president war criminals, repeatedly spreading the propoganda that we were hated, or we were losing the war, etc. among the things that was said in an attempt to undermine the credibility and resolve of our troops - and it did embolden our enemies.) Now if you oppose the spending policies of samebo, you are 1. a racist ( a term that carries an artificial stigma which allows any opinion held by the person to be dismissed by 'educated' society) or 2. a 'teabagger' (which is a gay reference but was intended to slur the grass roots that oppose the administration.) Looks like the shoe is much more at home on the LEFT foot.

Then there is COMMONSENSE who revels in pointing out Bush "holding hands" with the Saudi leader after 9-11. I guess he went to the same school of foreign relations as samebo. Here is a little clue. Bowing to a foreign leader - specifically in the Arab world - is a sign of being submissive. Holding hands is a dignified was to escort an equal.

That ought to hold you for a while.

#45
Obama bowed. He fucked up. Big whoop. He's going to surrender us over to the Saudis? Sure, makes perfect sense.

Spreading propaganda that we were hated? And now we're just spreading the propaganda that we're viewed more favorably since Obama's election, right?

We did not attempt to undermine the credibility and resolve of our troops. We were pissed as fuck and we still want them to come home. We should just get out of Afghanistan, Obama's fucking that up, and that actually matters, unlike the bowing incident.

And "teabagging" is not a gay reference. Women have mouths, too.

BUZKILLER

You saved me the trouble of trying to convince Mr. Spud of his flawed logic but I can see he's sticking to his guns.

...... I might add that Russia is also a "democracy" as well as Iran along with Pakistan which just approved people in the north to be ruled under Sharia law.

He exposed his true colors the moment he defended Hugo Chaves. Man I could run with that one but the man (pardon me if I got the gender incorrect) is way to polarized to make him see the world from a more balanced perspective nor is he worth the effort to do so (I can picture him clinching those white knuckles again).

since I am normally a day ahead of most of you

FDR shook hands with Stalin. Nixon shook hands with Chinese leaders. JFK shook hands with Khrushchev. Bush jr. shook hands with Putin. Damn, this kind of thing seem to have occurred before.

absolutely....but when the person is someone that so many of the left in this country look up to and admire and that same person is in the process of turning his country into a dictatorial collective state like this punk is, it does cause some worry
especailly when we dont know what is in the book that HC gave him to read.
something about nationalizing every business perhaps or just how to SILENCE critics like all fasicsts have to do to stay in power.

I really dont give a flying fuck what a person like you says about anything.
so big fuckin deal...

(LMAO) That was hysterical and a very clever post. The scary part is there is a degree to truth to it. You certainly touched a nerve with "The Obama fan club". They take any criticism of their political heros very personally and will attack you with a vengeance for it!

Bl2 has never made a rational argument inthe 5 years I have known him. I believe the dementia has gotten worse lately though

especailly when we dont know what is in the book that HC gave him to read.

This book?

It's called "Open Veins of Latin America" by Eduardo Galeano

It details the sad legacy of America's 60 years of support for torture prone dictators over populist democratic leaders in the Southern Cone. A subject which most South and Central Americans, unfortunately, know altogether too much about and which moronic, propagandised asswipes like you, Vern, know little to nothing.

Be Well.

"but when the person is someone that so many of the left in this country look up to and admire ..."

and yes...slwst

ANY TIME you put the mirror up to the faces of our "colleagues" here they get upset because they only believe what george soros tells them to believe through the media.

but you just got to love em

they STILL dont think last wednesday was anything for them to get worried about.......

too much about and which moronic, propagandised asswipes like you, Vern, know little to nothing.

Be Well.

well we certainly know about limp dicked liberals like yourself though dont we?

and this book is RIGHT ON WITH OBAMA

maybe on his next trip he can quote it while he blames us for everything and goes on his next "apology tour"...

I know you support corrupt assholes like Delay and Perry because they have an R next to their name. That tells me you put party before principal. I also know that you don't care that Texas has one the highest rate of uninsured in the country or that the education system is deplorable there. All you care about is having lowTaxes. I have seen the crushing poverty in Texas bl2 and know plenty of other greedy texans just like yourself.

crushing poverty in texas?
uh yeah sure........

and what better place to put this

in turkey, barry takes off his shoes and does everything he can to please the muslims while looking at a statue to his namesake

and at georgetown the obama team has the university take down a reference to jesus.
and I am not trying to make a claim that he is a muslim after all..it would just be nice if he were to honor religious wishes of americans as much as he does islam
and this matters on this thread because every good dictatot knows that you have to get a handle on the religion of your SUBJECTS first as well as thier right to speak out
so when he is JIVEASSING with a man of this repute, it should worry all of us.

OOPS>..forgot

you used CORRUPT in mentioning delay

would you care to see me type a list of just the obama cabinet and administration and list all of the TAX CHEATS ALONE?????

this hypocricy has gotten to be almost funny to read.

Bl2 have you ever been to el paso? Yes the poverty is extremely widespread you are Ignorant because you never leave your little white suburban neighborhood. Btw you have never posted your address so I could see your awards

rast.,..I will return your comment even though Im getting bored with your incessant and rude and immature name calling..
there is poverty within a very short distance from my abode. I dont doubt that, but as it relates to the world, those poor people are much more well off.
and of course you can pick and choose but when you look at the fiscal standing of texas with republicans in charge and you DONT see the best standing in the country for any state of any size, then you arent paying attention

70% of jobs created in 2008 were in texas and we have an almost 7 billion 'rainy day' fund or surplus.
california and new york cant come close in that regard.....

and Why>>>>
RIGHT TO WORK STATE run by republicans.

When Barry Met Smelly

The average salary in el paso is 13000 dollars. Of course you have a surplus I read where 45% of school children were uninsured. When you offer no social programs you can save lots of money. Just like I said greedy bastards only care about low taxes. I'm sick of you defending the injustices perpetrated by the Texas govt. The jobs being created are for low wages and little benefits

and so how many bankers and others like that do you think are taking those jobs even if low wages...
wouldnt they be filled by poor people mainly?

and its pretty interesting that you talk about the unemployment rate from one side of your mouth and then slam the highest rate of new jobs in the country
you cant have it both ways.

and your comment about uninsured children

another plea for a socialist state.
its NOT MY JOB TO provide insurance for someone elses children in EVERY case and I know you will bring out the old and TIRED nonsense about that showing me to be uncaring of poor people.

as dennis miller put it the other night and I am of the same thought

I will help the helpless but I dont care about the clueless

when you talk about the percentage of children with no insurance I would be interest to see what kind of house they live in, what kind of vehicle thier parents, drive and all that
in other words, i dont believe that figure is complete enough...I know of more than a couple of families who choose to have other stuff besides insurance
AND....remember that the program barry went ahead with insures "CHILDREN" as old as 21 or older.
I dont think thats MY job for sure...

I don't like how you spout off job creation rates when you know people can't live off these low wages. Explain to me why humans don't have a right to insurance? Do only the wealthy deserve to see a doctor and not in the emergency room. Do only the wealthy deserve to not die from treatable illnesses?

Guess what it's not my job to see to it that you get Medicare or social security. Maybe you should live in a cardboard box with no food. Social services bad unless it is your social services

Bl2 wants an every man for himself society. I guess we should get rid of police too. That way when you get beat on by a mugger you'll be happy your taxes are low

AGAIN....when I get that age I will have paid medicare taxes for years and years and I will not get SS because I didnt put enough in and even if I did, the state of texas has said that I couldnt anyway being a part of the Texas teacher retirement system which I put in THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ..

so you cant just put everyone in the same little box

and you continue to post the socialist viewpoint on this subject

personal insurance is not a right and it never has been and to remove the families responsibilty for insurance and put it on the back of taxpayers is the exact ideaology that we are fighting against when we vote against obama.
it simply is not a right but a personal responibility

and I have to go but I would be happy to continue this debate at another time since you have decided to act like an adult. thank you.

Huge shiteating, ass-kissing grin....yer leader....

rastaninja wrote: "All you care about is having lowTaxes"

That is very simplistic of you and shows the limits of your ability to comprehend what is going on.

It's not low taxes, it's spending we should all be concerned about.

Last time I checked 40% of the working population pay no taxes at all and a good percentage of them actually enjoy reverse taxation. The Earned Income Credit actually encourages people of lower means to have even more children and view that as "income"(4 kids equals $12,400). Last time I checked people in poverty have way more children then they can afford while more affluent people generally have only a few (seems a bit backwards doesn't it?). The children born into poverty will then having even more children (out of wedlock of course) by the time they are 20 where the father is nowhere to be found (of course) and the numbers of people dependent on the government grow exponentially. This engine just keeps churning out more misery.

How long do you think society can sustain this?

I agree healthcare is a problem we need to deal with it but the government getting involved will mean that the people who actually do pay taxes will be paying for their healthcare and the hordes of people who don't and who are likely to use it the most (fee stuff is always a great deal). This will break the fiscal back of the country. You can count on that.

This country is slipping deeper and deeper into financial ruin and liberals are totally oblivious to it as long as someone else is paying for it. Obama will just accelerate the process.

Another leader of the world, asshole that he is, warmly greets Obama. And SURPRISE! The right goes wild!

You sure are a clever little fuck.

Nullifidian, It wouldnt be so funny if it werent true

"I think it was irresponsible for the president to be seen kind of laughing and joking with Hugo Chavez," said Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev.

Obviously these Republicans have a very, very short memory.

Hold me? Hardly.

You righties are having some homoerotic circle-jerk earlier on in the threads of this post and I simply pointed out that you defended Bush holding hands with the Prince. BTW, who cares what it means in another country....Bush was here when he strolled arm-in-arm with his lover. Suddenly you guys are all flippity-floppity.

I'll wait for FAUX News to tell you how to respond.

Commonsense - It's just not funny or clever to say (or think) "Fo" News. Your French buddies would likely be indignant over this unnecessary and ultimately ineffective abuse of their language.

when you talk about the percentage of children with no insurance I would be interest to see what kind of house they live in, what kind of vehicle thier parents, drive and all that
in other words, i dont believe that figure is complete enough...I know of more than a couple of families who choose to have other stuff besides insurance
AND....remember that the program barry went ahead with insures "CHILDREN" as old as 21 or older.
I dont think thats MY job for sure...

You are absolutely right. You can't ask anything of that nature to anyone with Social Services in Virginia. It's intrusive even when the "needy" are sitting in the lobby pregnant AGAIN, talking on expensive cell phones & driving off in expensive cars. SS looks at gross income & doesn't take into account the people who are being responsible & providing their own families with insurance or contributing to a retirement fund. It stands to reason they'd have less disposable income, but hey, who cares right?
This continues the trend of encouraging mediocrity & rewarding irresponsibility that enusres those who deserve it the least get it the most. But hey, we know who they're voting for & that's the important thing.

Chavez & Obama are of the same thought. Dependence on government for any & everything by either compliance from the people or forcing it upon them. It doesn't matter which, the result is the same.

I have no problem with meeting with the man but the President should have told him to take that book & stick it where the sun doesn't shine. It would have not only been the right thing to do in the eyes of Americans & the world, (good photo op that doesn't make him look like an asskisser) but surely he already has a copy.

Look over here, President Obama shakes hands with a socialist....don't look over there where our corporations buy hundreds of billions of dollars worth of manufactured goods, BTW replacing American workers.

BTW Joe Scarborough is a lying POS talking about Daniel Ortega's terrible oppression of his people...conveniently pretending the rest of us can't remember the School of the Americas and Americans teaching the Contras torture, murder, kidnapping, etc. while his kind sat in power.
Just rewrite history, it's the Republican way.

Danni,

This is one of those rare moments where I actually agree with you.

Obama shakes Chavez' hand?

Big F-ing deal.

A handshake is an EXTREMELY common, first-meeting act.

I am concerned with how Team-Obama deals with Chavez; but I prefer to let these events play out before passing judgement.

This handshake is much ado about nothing.

...Going further...seriously...What did the Obama-haters expect?

Was Obama supposed to channel Moe and slap Chavez around like he would Larry or Curly?

Let's get real about this.

At the end of the day, most of these little symbolic gestures are largely meaningless.

"Look over here, President Obama shakes hands with a socialist....don't look over there where our corporations buy hundreds of billions of dollars worth of manufactured goods, BTW replacing American workers."

Hundreds of billions of dollars worth of manufactured goods that people buy from Walmart everyday & would scream bloody murder if they went off those shelves.

These "evil" corporations aren't just buying this crap up for shits & giggles. Someone's buying it from them. Sadly, some of the American workers who lost their jobs in manufacturing are buying this stuff because it's cheaper. Irony's a bitch.

So, then what is the point of pretend ideological purity when dealing with Ortega or Chavez HATEBIGOV???

Pretending to worry about Nicaraguans' and Venezuelans' human rights isn't fooling anyone when you are the biggest customer of the biggest human rights abuser in the world.

"Sadly, some of the American workers who lost their jobs in manufacturing are buying this stuff because it's cheaper."

That's why tariffs were invented.

That's why tariffs were invented.

How's obama doing on that front?

How's the putting america back to work going for the hope of america?

obama is a waste, another hacking political junky turning the people out to dry.

Not one policy yet made to correct the current problem from happening again, NOT ONE.

obama is now nothing more than all flash and NO SUBSTANCE! It was a wasted vote for a worthless party.

So, then what is the point of pretend ideological purity when dealing with Ortega or Chavez HATEBIGOV???

What said their was any? It's the world we live in for better or worse, mostly worse. I don't like it, I'm sure none of us do but the effort to get along & work towards the same goals in the world is not the same as capitulating & apologizing for past actions. You can't change the past! We need to move forward & hopefully that is the tone all of this will take.

Perceived weakness is not good for the US. Particularly since we've already begun the slide towards socialism. You have the international community saying the US agrees with these governments ran by dictators & it is seen as validation of their tactics & ideologies. That's how they'll view it anyway & that's how it will be sold to their like-minded neighbors & similar governments.

If the US is the leader of the world & our reputation is diminished abroad and these countries DEAL in propaganda, having the sitting US President on an apology tour wouldn't be something they'd use to further their own agendas? Come on Danni! We would use it wouldn't we? Or is the desire and ability to use & manipulate & coerce strictly cornered by the US? I think not.

Keep your friends close & your enemies closer. There is merit to that line of thinking & I suppose I'd feel better if that was somewhere in BO's head as he's dealing with these folks. I personally think he entertains the idea that the US deserves all this vitriol from the international community & it's his job to make the world love us. I'm not interested in love from them but respect and I don't mean the restore our image crap, I mean the kind of respect that comes from knowing at the end of the day we will do what we have to do to protect our own & don't you forget it!

I'm all for working together & getting along I'm just not as open to what the left in this country is to get there.

That's why tariffs were invented.

That's right - force the people to buy what you want them to buy. Mm-hmm.

"That's right - force the people to buy what you want them to buy. Mm-hmm."

Sort of a stupid comment when you consider the Cuban embargo.
I think when it is in the best interest of America as opposed to American corporations we should use tariffs to protect our manufacturing sector just as we did since the beginning of our nation.

People buy the cheaper goods because their level of disposable income has shrunk by losing their jobs to the very people who are feeding them back the product.. tariffs are the only way to equalize the loss of jobs overseas.. once that would be in an 'enforced' mode, we might see some of our industrialization reborn.. we could begin by imposing strict taxes on 'raw materials' going out of the country to be processed...!!!!

JeffJ -

I appreciate your level-headedness here. Hugo Chavez does seem to fit the mold of half-cocked dictator, but what the hell? It was a freakin' handshake - something grownups do when they meet, even if they don't necessarily like each other.

Why do so many of you righties commenting here want to get into a bellicose, defensive crouch with half the world? Do you do this with your neighbors?

I prefer having the self-confidence to work toward mutual respect, tempered of course with the skepticism and watchfulness necessary to protect our interests.

Obama bowed. He fucked up. Big whoop.

#46 | Posted by Scrumplet

I'm sure "Big whoop." was your response when Bush held the Saudi's hand.

"I prefer having the self-confidence to work toward mutual respect, tempered of course with the skepticism and watchfulness necessary to protect our interests"

Exceptionally well said!

Thanks, HBG. I mean, I don't trust Chavez either, but why start off in a war stance?

Live or Die - that was MY response, at least, to Bush holding hands with the prince. I figured it was something to do with Saudi custom. Yes, I do think the U.S. has been too beholden in general to the oil-rich countries of the world, and for that reason I would prefer Obama also not appear subservient. But whatever. Let's come up with our own fuel sources, and the whole thing becomes irrelevant.

I think when it is in the best interest of America as opposed to American corporations we should use tariffs to protect our manufacturing sector just as we did since the beginning of our nation.

Danni it doesn't work any more as it did back in your youth. Tarriffs wouldn't work today, especially against China. Wake up and smell the products. They are all over your own home, my friend, including whatever you are using to send these posts to the DR.

RAST

heres hoping that you log on and read this after our conversation yesterday

when I read the paper not long after, I read the article about the house in texas passed the first reading of the budget and it called for more money to use to help college students and also to raise the amount for the SCHIP thing,
and it wasnt apparently a big battle as the vote was 149 to 0.
oh those rich bastard repuublicans in the leg just dont care about the little people now do they??
and the answer is of course they do.

"Danni it doesn't work any more as it did back in your youth. Tarriffs wouldn't work today, especially against China."

Because you say so???
Baloney.
Tariffs would work exactly the same today as they did 100 years ago. American manufacturing companies could and would invest in their factories here if they could depend on a price for their products not undercut by corporations importing goods made with extremely cheap or even slave labor. All of our major trade competitors protect their own markets, we are saps for our corporations who are the only real winners in today's system, certainly not the working class. You'd think you would have learned something these past couple of years, but guess not.

well so young lady
what about the latest news that once again the unions have drawn a bead on walmart...YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP.....he he...

but thats okay...its only the largest job creator in the country, so whats a few thousand lost jobs out of 2.1 million

and of course when prices go up and they will have to of course, I think even you would agree

who does that hurt? poor people of course.

Tariffs will work; we just do not have anyone that has the guts to impose them... the root of the issue with cheap products from China, etc...
is called lobbying...!!!!

and again I ask you

who would this hurt the most

all of us rich fatcat republicans
or poor people with the large numbers of minorities in that group?

and in a recession,is it AGAIN, wise to raise prices for everyone?

"
and again I ask you

who would this hurt the most

all of us rich fatcat republicans"

It would primarily hurt the Chinese and those who profit by selling their crap. Walmart existed and did fine selling American made goods, it could do so again. Why have you given up on America?

BTW, eventually if we can't reverse the balance of trade, even retirees living on pensions will suffer because our government(s) will be broke.

Are you one of those Limousine Liberals willing and quite able to pay higher prices and not caring? Not so the typical Wal-Mart customer.

BTW, eventually if we can't reverse the balance of trade, even retirees living on pensions will suffer because our government(s) will be broke.

#116 | Posted by danni at 2009

sure thats a problem but it wont make poor people any happier at the prices will HAVE to go up.

mrfair..let me speak for her...she is not a limo liberal as far as I know from her posts.
but your question is still fair.

she is not a limo liberal

she's the old fashioned kind

mean and nasty....LOL

Goddamm rightie fags. Always with the gay shit.

#23 | Posted by dxlingr

I suppose you already forgot about the never ending calling of rightie protesters as teabaggers. Even the MSM was doing it and it was constant. You don't have a right to castigate republicans for their use of gay terms. You lost it long before the teabag talk.

" suppose you already forgot about the never ending calling of rightie protesters as teabaggers."

Actually, those morons called themselves teabaggers until somebody clued them in.

You don't have a right to castigate republicans for their use of gay terms

Actually, teabagging simply refers to oral/scrotal stimulation which can be either hetero or homosexual just as anal sex can be both.

Be Well.

Oh, I wasn't aware that you were in so deep with the crowd that you knew this information. No matter where it started it was the left that kept saying it over and over and over. And the MSM, especially Madow and Olberman, should be fined by the FCC for their use of the word.

It also refers to a prank involving dangling one's testicles in the face of a sleeping or drunk friend.

Tru dat. A quick google image search will confirm this data.

LOL.

Not so lolworthy is it's inclusion into hazing rituals at various institutions of learning.

Quick, someone call Whine One One!

Everwrong needs a Waaaahmbulance!

damn, obama must have had a 1 cent a cup sale at his Fool-Ade stand on the White House lawn.

The enemies of America gain significant strategic advantages, while assclown in the White House blames America for all the ills of the world, never mind the fact that communism, marxism, and liberalism has been the major cause of death world wide for the past 90 years.

Did Barry bow to his Central American masters?

I am suprised bho did not get on his knees and kiss his ring finger. But I am sure that will come soon enough.

I am sure they had a private meeting where bho swallowed like a good lib.

Gingrich out there denying history and the photographic evidence. Right-wing spun up so much that they didn't bother waiting for Obama to be back in America, no they launched their attack while he was in Trinidad/Tobago.

And America watches as the right does their best to seal their own coffin.

You really are this stupid, aren't you?

And I hear he doesn't wear his suit coat while at work in the Oval Office.

The horror.

No subservient bow to Hugo though.....not Poser's muslim superior this time....
