Coincidence does not prove cause and effect. The economy has worsened considerably since Bush left office and April 15th brought a special reminder. People are losing jobs, taking pay cuts and furloughs while the states are increasing taxes to stay afloat. They see their savings and 401Ks collapse. They're taking a big hit on the value of their homes while real estate taxes stay the same. In short, Americans are caught in a vice of falling income and rising costs. Taxes are easily a household's largest expense. If Obama was white, it would have made no difference.

At the end of 2008 the national debt was $10 trillion. 2008 fed revenue was $2.5 trillion and expenditures were $2.98 trillion. The 2009 proposal is to spend $3.9 trillion with revenue of $2.2 trillion. Last week Treasury acknowledged 2009 revenue will likely only be $1.9 trillion. Add $1.2 trillion for TARP and $787 billion for stimulus and the Obama debt for 2009 will be $4 trillion, 9 times the deficit for the 2008 budget. The average 20 year old who graduates from college will pay $140,000 just in interest on this debt while the average 50 year old college grad will pay $81,000. This isn't about race, this is about federal spending and the crushing debt load that today's families, students, and children will be forced to bear. See Table S-1, pages 114-116 of the Obama budget on the www.whitehouse.gov website. The fact that Bush spent too much doesn't mean that Obama should spend three times as much.

As a college instructor, I must say that Ms. Garafolo is way off base here. The tea party that I attended presented speakers such as a tax attorney, M.D.'s, local business people, a missionary from South America, other university faculty members, and several individuals from within the community. No one was spouting off about guns, no one was screaming or shouting obscenities, all very reserved, a somewhat older crowd. There was no partisanship - there were democrats, republicans, and independents there, Obama was NOT the center of the event,and was not mentioned by the speakers. This was a small community and everything was organized by those in this community (no FOX network to be found). The whole point of these tea parties was to protest how our money is being spent. They can still prefer their political pick without liking what is happening. I love my teenager, but I sure don't like some of the behavior that I see! Why do these people not see what is happening to their future, their kids' future, and the future of the country? Instead you would discover that the Tea Parties were a protest of spending which rails against 95% of Congress and 100% of both the Obama and Bush Administrations. Obama gets focus only because he's the guy currently in charge.

BTW, I'm only here for tonight until the weekend. I have a life outside this blog which I live to the fullest. I just had to stop by home and do some laundry before I leave again. So you and whomever you speak for can change that collective groan to a collective sigh of relief soon.

You really ought to check out the real world and try living a real life, nully. It's infinitely more fulfilling and gratifying that trolling complete strangers like me. You might be surprised.

Anyway, my dirty underwear is more interesting that trolls. Have fun with the troll thing, and in all seriousness -- I'm glad it works out for you. Everyone deserves some sort of fulfillment in their lives, even though what you choose (trolling me) would not do much in the arena of intellectual stimulation for me as it does you.

I don't understand the reasons, but I do understand that you, tosser, and da bOoB get some sort of cheap thrill about high thread counts on your threads, so if I am able to contribute to your banal and meaningless lives in such an effortless manner, I am more than happy to do so. I believe everyone deserves happiness, no matter how trite your version of it may appear to me.

And I hope this post adds a simple-minded thrill as well.
