Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Civilian workers who suffered devastating injuries while supporting the U.S. war effort in Iraq and Afghanistan have come home to a grinding battle for basic medical care, artificial limbs, psychological counseling and other services. The insurance companies responsible for their treatment under taxpayer-funded policies have routinely denied the most serious medical claims. Those insurers -- primarily American International Group (AIG) -- recorded hundreds of millions of dollars in profits on this business.

.......Obama should have let AIG go under.......

.....and started a national health care program.....

.....what's the point of having a top-line, private system, if the bastards deny coverage to people who are paid up ??.......

An insurance company refuses to pay claims???
No, that can't be because I've heard we have the best health care system in the world and we don't have to wait for services like they do in countries that have nationalized health care.

and we don't have to wait

....no....we get refused coverage instantly.....

They must have selected the "never pay" option.

Just as Greenspan did with derivatives.

Knowing what we now know about AIG are we surprised? AIG didn't set aside enough money to cover the liabilities they were taking on wrt financial instruments and it seems as if they didn't set aside enough money to cover the liabilities associated with injured contractors. Instead, it seems as if the money that was supposed to go into reserves went into uber salaries for executives, dividend payments to share holders, etc.

Additional investigations into AIG's underwriting practices should take place to determine if the underwriters were incompetent or criminal.

Man this is what greed gets you, the taxpayer bailed these idiots out and they cannot help their workers who kept them in business by selling their products and services. This is a disgrace and I say let the company fall on their faces. From Christopher Melton

they cannot help their workers who kept them in business by selling their products and services.

I guess you didn't read the article and see who was refused care.

Never stopped you.

I am so beyond surprise I do not know whether to laugh or cry. The only thing I can think of is Milo Minderbinder in "Catch-22", and that was dear god not supposed to be reality!!!

"It's like we're disposable soldiers," said Newman, 44

Seriously, you're just figuring that out?

Too bad this guy had to lose a leg to open his mind.

"he fought an insurance company for a year to get a prosthetic leg that his doctors recommended."

The contractors, (unlike our soldirs) go over there to make lots of money, no one forced him to go. I do not agree with what the insurance co is doing, but maybe he should have checked it out before he decided to go over there. Would have been the first thin i would have looked at...

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure the insurance company should foot the bill for the bill for the prosthetic leg. I'll bet they covered all the surgery etc... and I would bet if you dig deeper he wanted the gazillion dollar bionic model, not the "base" model the insurance co was willing to pay for...

soliders should definately get the gazillion dollar bionic model, hmmmm greedy contrators not so much....

(by the way I am a greedy contractor, but never been to iraq....)

Any person, man or woman, civilian or military, should never be denied anything, when it comes to fix injuries they recieved in irag, or any place that our goverment has sent them too.
now if this was your brother, sister, son or daughter, i would hope that you would have a change of mind---jaybay555.
thise kids that were sent by bush way back when, to train the iragie police and soldiers to be able to police their country.
never should anyone who is sent into a battle zone, ever be denied anything in the way of medical care, or anything else that they need----

your point is taken. All I was saying is that they volunteered to go into a risky place, they were not "SENT" anywhere, they are contractors. I don't think we as tax payers are obligated to pay for contractors health care... by the way, what kind of coverage are you expecting under Obama's plan. ALSO, I still say there is more to the story, I find it hard to believe that an insurance co would not pay for an artificial leg... I bet he just wanted a more expensive model. what kind of leg do you think you would get under Obama's plan?

did not mean to post it 3 times! what the hell?

"I don't think we as tax payers are obligated to pay for contractors health care..."

No, dumbass, the insurance corporation that we taxpayers paid to cover their injuries is obligated.

Also, if you find it "hard to believe" that an insurance company would jerk someone around for profit you're an even bigger idiot than you come across as -- which is really saying something.

no shit? bad comparison on my part...

I said I do not agree with the insurance company
IF what the article is saying is TRUE. I do not believe the insurance co refused to give the man a leg. dig deeper and it was probably the cost of the leg HE wanted. They probably wanted to give him the cheaper leg and I'll I'll bet that leg was fully functional just not as fancy... you guys think money grows on trees and some how the insurance companies should not try to cut costs or run as a profitable business.

you sound like a liberal dem. I have a question, do you really think govt run health care is going to be better? your living in fantasy land fuck face.
govt will give you a sawed off pool cue for a leg and send you on your way.
