Since it's LEGAL for the US to sell the technology to miniaturize nuclear weapons, satellite guided bombs, and stealth aircraft, why not sell it to someone who knows how to put it to use? Like India perhaps... everything they need for a decaptiation strike on Pakistan and ensuing counterforce operation to prevent nuclear retaliation can be provided by Uncle Sam. He's a jealous lover, and not to be spurned lightly.

Or - maybe it isn't a good idea to give arms to countries who "know how to put them to use". If anything, those are the last countries that need them. Stability, especially when it comes to WMD, isn't a bad thing. The damn things shouldn't exist in the first place.

I agree with you, the actions of NK (and Iran) are very calculated. Just because you have an inferior position in a game of chess does not mean that you can't make life extremely difficult on your opponent and capitalize on their mistakes. In this game, NK lacks the material that we possess, but all they need to do is find a way to draw. I said here about a week ago that the NK anything but crazy.

When I talk about batshit insane people, I'm speaking generally. There are crazy people in every country, and with as many nukes floating around as there are today, what's to keep a "Dr. Strangelove" sort from killing millions? Are you that sure that every nuclear device (or other WMD) is secure? The threat, however remote, will remain as long as the weapons exist.

Hell, it doesn't even take a madman to start a war. Countries are at the mercy of how well their early warning systems and command and control systems function. Faced with a possible counterforce attack, you don't have much time to decide whether or not to give the order to retaliate. "Launch-on-warning" is a scary policy, and even if our leaders are completely sane individuals, they can still end up making a terrible choice. This is probably a more likely scenario than a terrorist getting a nuke.
