President Barack Obama is seeking $83.4 billion for U.S. military and diplomatic operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, pressing for special troop funding that he opposed two years ago when he was a senator and George W. Bush was president.

more blood for oil. Keep the oil and blood flowing rightwingers

President Hussein is a 'right winger'?

Billy Ayers will not be pleased.

If he cares about the troops, by your logic, he'd remove them immediately, no? So, by wanting more money, does that mean he's just as bad as those stinking Reps? A hypocrite?

If you were Obama, what would you do today?

We have as of 2006 9 Million TONS of material to move out of Iraq. Ity's probably gone up since then. It will take a while to get all that stuff out of county and either back home or into afghanistan. Dubya got us stuck between a rock and hard place. But You wouldn't understand that now would You OohRah????

Obama is a friggin hypocrite and the left is silent.

This after all the blathering against Bush.

Truly Amazing.

Now I agree that if they need more funds--give it to them.

But wait and watch what they put onto the Supplemental--it is supposed to be 83 billion--it will be over 100 billion when it goes for the vote.

You're so full of shit Your hair folicals are oozing OohRah. I want the troops home like March 19 2003. I want them home now. I can not help that it will take months to do. I wished Obama had magical powers to wave a wand and everything would be out of Iraq in a nano Second. There was no grandstanding at least not from Me. I don't want My Countryfolk involved with an ilolegal War of aggression. I am however stuck being able to do nothing about the situation OohRah. You dig that OohRah??

Obama is saving the country from the last 8 years of buffoonery (it's spelled with a "u," buddy... no child left behind...)

He's taking the difficult steps necessary to secure a positive future for this nation, both economically and militarily. At this critical point in time, our nation needs you to support your president - undermining him undermines this nation. The foolhardy, idealistic policies of the previous administration brought us a moment of prosperity, and then the illusion disappeared when the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac came crumbling down. Do you remember where you were when the first Bush bailout happened? Our economy was under attack, but from enemies within our own borders who hid in the shadows while they plotted to enrich themselves. If the president's agenda is stalled, our enemies will take the opportunity to ensure that our economy never recovers.

It sounds like you want our enemies to succeed, aclusux. You are either for Obama, or a second Great Depression and the destruction of America as a world superpower!

See, I can support a political agenda with fearmongering, absolutism, and baseless attacks on my political rivals' patriotism, too! It's what you jackasses did for the last 8 years. Live with it.

The only funds we need to appropriate to the Iraq part is to immediately pay for a safe removal of troops and equipment...no more, no less.. fund the basics and get the hell out...
As to the other, appropriate just enough for the bombs that it would take to close all of the mountain paths and lower the mountains a few feet.. and, that should take care of that..
Another sad fact is that this 'spineless ass' will sit back until there is a chance to make a statement that will put him in good light rather than take an aggressive stand against the pirates..
such a waste of office...

Well lets see how this goes. Dubya didn't care for the troops because he kept them there for false pride. So I guess Obama has the same false pride and doesn't give a fuck also.

I like your logic Larry!

hell no we won't go!

Hey jerkoffs

Do you guys NOT want to support the troops for that withdrawal period of time.

Righties prooving once again they are either nave or just hate america.

Naive**

As a Republican I agree to a point that invading Iraq was an "ill conceived adventure". If George Bush put a bit more thought into it two things might have been different. 1) He would have never gone into Iraq in the first place. 2) He would have thought out the ramifications and took steps to mitigate the problems encountered before they turned into problems like they did (the military asked for more troops to ensure they weren't spread as thin as they were).

But everyone seems to forget the fact the Saddam Hussein is no longer in power + his successors son's Usay and Cusay (forgive my spelling) who were far worse tyrants the father won't be attacking their neighbors and mass killing their own people anymore which may have resulted in far greater tragedies then what has occurred so far . The story in Iraq is not over and perhaps history will judge "W" a bit differently as time goes on. Europe ignored Hitler for years and we all know what happened as a result!

I think President Obama sees things a bit differently then he did when he was a candidate. I am astounded by the narrow mindedness of the people who say we should pull out of Iraq NOW without conditions. Most Iraqis are horrified that the thought of the consequences of a sudden pullout of US troops. I think some of these liberals are nothing more then total pacifist and don't think war is justified regardless of the consequences of doing nothing (just like "our friends" in Europe). They also think Afghanistan is not worth the effort until Abdul drops a bomb on their front porch which would have a negative impact on their delusional perspective.

aMeRIcAn BlOoD iS oN lArRy'S hANd'S...

Okay, I'll bite. Were I Obama, I'd order all U.S. troops home as of yesterday. Then I'd issue an edict that henceforth we see no American troops or bases outside the 50 states. Yes, yahoos, lunatics, rightie screamers, haters and war mongers would holler bloody murder, but they'd holler bloody murder anyway, and might soften their rhetoric once that saw that national debt they hate so much dwindle.

But remember, we never promised you anything more than a wimpy centrist. This is vintage Obama. herm

As I read all the comments here, I am truly surprised that so few people understand the geo-politics of conquest and control.

Some of the more shallow on the left use "Blood for Oil" as an attack.

Of course it's blood for oil, silly. Oil is the most valuable commodity on the planet. He who controls the oil makes the rules. Anyone who denies this is either ignorant or simply being dishonest. Blood for oil is not a Republican, Democrat or even an American thing. It's a human dominance thing. Stop denying the alpha-animal instincts within human beings.

Second, US presence in the region is a logical step toward total global domination. Global domination has been the primary power, security and wealth building goal of every great civilization since the dawn of civilizations. Don't be so naive as to think humanity has changed just because the calendar has.

Finally, do not be mistaken. The US will remain in Iraq for all time, just as it does in every region it has conquered since it's inception. To remain is key. To affect the region in ways favorable to the US is the goal. You can only do that when you are there pulling strings and occupying camps.

If you disagree with anything I have just written, please tell me where I'm wrong and please avoid the name calling that gives one away as a weak, emotionally driven person. This conversation is restricted to the thinkers.

So Libertarian_G(I?) doesn't believe in other Country's sovereignty?? (He?) doesn't believe other Country's have a right to control their own resources?? Don't get Me wrong I have known this war was all about controlling the Second Largest proven oil reserves in the world. Many have called Me nuts a BSer etc etc etc for it but I digress. That being said I do not believe the United States nor any other Country should control another Country's natural resources. Whatever happened to the notion of Each Country controlling whats underneith their borders?? I find this dastardly to say the very least.

Larry

Whatever happened to the notion of Each Country controlling whats underneith their borders??

Umm..

About 10,000 years of the reality of human history.

19 months, riiight. Except for the little detail of 50,000 troops permanently stationed there for counter-terrorism activities (funny how "counter-terrorism" is not longer a term derided by the left...) Be prepared to see funding for Iraq in budgets for decades to come. Heck, we occupied Germany and Japan over 60 years ago and are still there! What makes you think we'll be done with Iraq in a mere 19 months??

I guess the old adage is true. "Civilized" societies aren't so "Civil" after all.

Larry

"(funny how "counter-terrorism" is not longer a term derided by the left...)"

Once again.

Once bush and right gave legitamacy to al queda and allowed terror to become a force in iraq. That's when the need for counter terrorism became real.

Before the iraq war countless experts said it would make terrorism worse and bigger and guess what? They were correct.

So now that it gained momentum there is no choice even by the left to combat it actively.

So no its not funny. Only you are funny.

Hold on a minute.
I never said the words you have put in my mouth.
I merely described a situation that I believe is accurate.

The surest sign of intelligence is considering an idea without actually subscribing to it.

BTW, it is "He"

Kliff's calumny, "... Once bush and right gave legitamacy to al queda and allowed terror to become a force in iraq. That's when the need for counter terrorism became real."

I dote on this sort of ostrich-mentality, where the bird in question sticks its ugly head into the sand of ignorance and tries to convince everyone else to, "Come on in, the ignorance is fine!"

What a dunce! The Left/Liberals/Progressive/
Democrats conveniently forget 9/11 and the NATO response to al Qaeda in Afghanistan. They want everyone else to be as equally stupid as they are ... that's your right, after all!

#28 | Posted by bartimus

Don't forget about Kosovo, Horn of Africa, South Korea and Italy.
Add Iraq and Afghanistan to the list.
Pakistan is just around the corner.

Fuck Obama. Fuck the war lie. Fuck the globalist cocksuckers behind the orchestrated humiliation, and destruction of the US.
Oh yeah, and fuck all of you brainwashed douche bags that are to stupid to see what is happening, there by mindlessly participating in the destruction of the USA.
Morons!

Jeff,

What the fuck do you care from Europe?

Scrolling through this debate I primarily notice an illiterate frothing-at-the-mouth rant from a troglodite than bills him/herself as "ACLUSux." Maybe someone could go back and make just one sentence comprehensible. herm

Tadowe. Call it what ever lies you want. Many experts agree that al qaeda became stronger after the war in iraq.

And now the taliban is once again powerful

This is due to a pointless waste in iraq that distracted from afghanistan.

So instead of fighting the "terr-ists" in one place we helped them spread around.

The right is so hypocritical when it comes to supporting the troops.

Military personnel on Druge: How fast could the troops move out if ordered to do so, including to move the equipment worth taking and destroying along the way?

Think it'll take 19 months? The US military moved faster than that during WWII with 1940's equipment.

I bet the military can do it faster than people give them credit.

Sorry Barak, this is another "bail-out" mistake.

We should move troops out, not the money.

Time to get the fuck out, this is too expensive.

Blow the equipment in place and bug the hell out!

It will cost more to move it than it did to put it in.

It will cost more to move it than it did to put it in.

And who pays for the replacement when back? The cost will be twice to not ship it back but its OK I am glad you're not running a business.

Although the war machine will probably blow the equipment just so it can get GM and the auto industry making new stuff for them.

American Troops will NEVER leave IRAQ.

Liberals, he just said it to make you "feel" good. It just sounded "Right" didn't it?

Yup, 4 more years of Bush whether you wanted it or not when it comes to WAR.

What the fuck does that have to do about anything? We are talking about more money for troops. In other words, extending the war instead of decreasing it. The equipment will take a long time to get home but that won't happen until the soldiers are on their way out first. Your post, as usual, made no sense at all.

Never-long subscribes to the ever popular 'Declare victory and go home' plan. Good Man!!!! One question....why the fuck didn't you do that in 2004?

Hey idiot, this falls right in the same time frame that Bush was negotiating while still in office. Do you actually believe that Obama came up with this time frame? It was arrived at by the Iraqis and Bush before Obama ever stepped foot in the white house. He's just claiming it. Go back and read the news a few months before Bush left. There was all sorts of talk about a date of leaving and it falls right in line with Obama's 19 months. You idiot.

It was Candidate Obama who came up with 16 months First. Then the President of Iraq adopted it and then Dubya went along with it. But it was Obama who came up with it first and Dubya followed suit. Remember Dubya didn't believe in timetables for withdrawel while President.

Larry

No I don't, Axe. I don't want a single troop out of Iraq until it is stable enough for Iraqi's to handle what is left. With more Iraqi troops taking the lead and the US in more of a backup role, this seems to be happening already. When it reaches the point where we are satisfied that we can leave without some uprising toppling the government then we should leave. If Obama leaves one second before that he will have destroyed everything that has been worked and fought for and he will spit on every dead soldiers name.

The you better not get anywhere near Ceaser Milan.

Then*

Bullshit, Larry, bullshit. Yes Bush never wanted to set an exact date for withdrawal, especially if things weren't stable. Obama saying 16 months had absolutely nothing to do with Bush's talks with Iraq about the possibility of withdrawal. I can't believe you even suggested that. Yeah, Bush heard Obama say 16 months and he got so scared that he immediately started making the deal.

Go back and read reports of the last few months of Bush's term. There were guidelines and time lines being set before Obama even won the nomination. The Iraqis called for some time in late 2010 and then that moved to 2011 long before Obama had a thing to do with it. Bush agreed with these time frames with Iraq and I don't think he consulted Barrak on it. I can't believe you even said that.

I guess the Iraqi government needs America's security assistance a little longer. Unless the DR crowd thinks that Iraq is still a puppet and Obama is the puppet master.
Obama has had a rough first start being president, and I'm sure will have some more lessons to learn along that way. But the lesson learned by Obama this week, its so easy to critise Bush when on the sidelines. But its a much different case when you have to run the show yourself. In this case Bush was right and Obama will follow in his footsteps.

These lessons will make Obama a stronger president.

The Lesson that Every American should learn is Never again wage an Illegal War of Aggression against anyone. Because when it's started You have been defeated and rightfully so.

Larry

I guess the Iraqi government needs America's security assistance a little longer.

I keep reading the Iraqi government wants our military out ASAP. And I'm positive they never invited us.

These lessons will make Obama a stronger president.

Since Alexander the Great, every nation that tried to occupy Afghanistan failed miserably. Pakistan is way more dangerous as an enemy. Obama has learned nothing, but he will.

RAY, So are you saying that Obama is the puppet master of Iraq. And he is making our forces stay longer. I beg to differ, Obama is not a puppet master of Iraq and Iraqi government needs our assistance. The Iraqi government indeed might disagree like our government disagrees. But I'm sure the majority of the Iraqi government needs us to stay a little while longer.

#62 | Posted by cmbell73

Obama puppet master of Iraq? No. He's a shill for the military-industrial complex.

What are you smoking? Our military destroyed their country and you conjure an image of them needing our assistance. Any more assistance like that and Iraq will become uninhabitable.

In case you're not paying attention, Obama is planning multi-Trillion deficits and he's running out of credit with foreigners. The waste of a pointless war and the cost to taxpayers is breathtaking, and you seem totally impervious to it.

RAY, You say Obama is a shill for the military industrial complex? Hardly, especially when Obama had problems with voting for funding for the war. If this war is not allowed to be finished would be a waste. Its hard to beileve people like you think this war is lost. Obama is making the right choice, he can see success out of this.

He's not having problems with the funding in total which increased over last year. He's having problems shifting the funding away from over-expensive weapons designed for another major war that won't be fought to weapons designed to fight guerrilla wars.

Obama is making the right choice, he can see success out of this.

Learn the hard way if it's possible. The disaster awaiting in Afghanistan and Pakistan is of several magnitudes greater than the disaster in Iraq.

WAR! HUUH!

What is it good for?

Turning Dems into neocons...Say it again!

WAR!

Hardly, especially when Obama had problems with voting for funding for the war.

LOL. Fortunately he found a way in his heart to fund it.

This guy is as much (probably more) a disappointment to the left as Bush was to the right.

Washboard-
Obama's approval rating:
www.bloomberg.com

I am shocked that the people that voted for him actually thought he was going to immeadiatly pull out all the troops all over the world... guess this is one of the few issues that I agree with him on...

kinda like "only people that make over 250k will have taxes raised" ha ha ha The rest of us will have 1000 dollar a month light bills, but it's not a tax I guess... just have to change your way of thinking! and I'll bet you 250k turns to 100k before his first term is up...

It's time for everyone to admit that Obama lied.

Obama's approval rating:

Which happens to be very high.

Since when did high approval ratings equate competence and rationality? All it proves is his gift for rhetoric and deceit. To those who pay attention, he does the opposite of what he says he'll do. To those who know their history, those are the ingredients of a very dangerous man.
