Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Daily Show host Jon Stewart made fun of conservative attempts to label President Obama as a tyrannical leader and advised GOP members Tuesday to "pace their rage" because being in the minority party is supposed to taste like a "sh** taco."

Pointing out the inconsistencies in Republican and Fox pundit arguments that Obama is both simultaneously a weak and over-strong president, Stewart said, "So not only is Obama a total pussy, who's going to let Europe run roughshod over us, he's also an iron-fisted tyrant, who will crush anyone who doesn't bend to his will."

With love to BL2, Murphy, et al.

This is kinda the way its playing out. They were so used to getting their way 24/7/365 that even the smallest loss of that entitlement could be seen as tyrannical. Like a spoiled and incorrigable teenager who, once entering the real world, suddenly discovers that it does not revolve around him and exist to cater to his every whim.

I saw this and knew it would be posted here.

Excellent stuff by Stewart, serious but with humor where needed.

The shoe is on the other foot, and the right wing loons are acting even crazier than the left wing loons did when W was president. And faster. I don't recall this "tyranny" meme being spewed in April of 2001, do you? Nor were lefty loons with guns shooting every one in sight.

Once again we have a democratic president, and like Bill Clinton, the far right is not going to give him a fair shot, foxnews is basing their ratings on constant attacks, and the black helicopter crowd came out from their spider holes.(proving they're just partisan douchebags, as Stewart listed many things far more tyrannical under W than Obama has done so far. Where were the "patriots" then?)

These "patriots" don't believe in freedom. They want it there way all the time, and when they don't get it then the threats of civil war start coming out. They're bullies, cowards, and partisan hacks.

correction: "They want it their way all the time,"

"They want it their way all the time."

Well, they have been conditioned to expect it.

Well, they have been conditioned to expect it.

I wonder what this means?

As an independent, my party has never been in power so I am perpetually out of power. Plus I don't even have a party. What a pisser!

I will advise my lefty friends to take the high road, because the tone and timbre of hyperbole coming out of the neo-con idiots will surely be their own undoing. Don't let them take you down with them.

Does anyone here believe (as I do) that true conservatism will ever be back? and more importantly will conservatism ever have an intellectual backbone again?

Lip-if/when a real conservative movement comes back, it won't come out of the GOP. The GOP is too wrapped up with social conservatism, corporate empireism and pork barrel politics to host anyone with a traditional conservative platform.

The question is, are "real conservatives", not those embarrassed Republicans claiming the title "conservative", willing to spend time in the wilderness growing a party, or will they compromise their values for the comfort of the GOP?

"I'm not Irish but I'm not sure Potato Day' is more politically correct than St. Patrick's Day. I think it might be worse," laughed Stewart before going on to say:

In a related story, I just read that Brown University will no longer be celebrating Columbus day. They will now call it Fall Day because of Columbus's treatment of Native Americans.

While I understand the uncomfortable feelings of many toward Columbus, I wonder if Brown will maintain consistency and, therefore, credibility, by renaming their own university to distance themselves from the Brown family, who after all, were slave dealers.

Sorry, if I hijacked the thread, but I thought the above interesting, and I really haven't gotten into posting my own stories on the backpage.

Cheers

If by "true conservatism" you mean Goldwater conservatism, then yes. However, you will need a secular leader who could care less about abortion, gay rights, or any of that fundemental christian BS before you see true conservatism.

Oh, and someone with a realistic view of income taxation versus a national sales tax or a flat tax. And he/she will need to have a realistic view of what gov't spending can be cut and what needs to stick around.

Ron Paul is not this person.

Grendel I have a feeling most real Native Americans don't give a shit about Columbus any more. Columbus was simply one of the first to arrive.

ALSO - I think Jon Stewart is quite a smart guy and breath of fresh air. And he's really only supposed to be a comedian! Which is why my 3 favorite evening shows are The O'Reilly Factor, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

Lip, what I mean by "conditioned" is... Well, habituated is probably a better word.
When economic conservatism is no longer conflated with social conservatism, yes it will make a comeback, as long as "starving the beast" is tempered with a little common sense about the costs of keeping a society functioning.

The Republicans confused bullying for leadership and now they are just a party of frustrated bullies.

"However, you will need a secular leader who could care less about abortion, gay rights, or any of that fundemental christian BS before you see true conservatism."

Goldwater would qualify as that leader you seek.
Believed in a woman's right to choose, said he didn't care if a soldier was gay as long as he could shoot straigt and had no use for fundamentalist Christian politics.

Aha! Danni, like Hil, was a Goldwater Girl!

"Aha! Danni, like Hil, was a Goldwater Girl!"

No but in those days we didn't have to demonize the opposition. Goldwater was for "states rights" which, unfortunately, would have allowed segregation to continue. Plus, he sort of wanted to go to war with China.

They named Hil after Sir Edmund don't you know. And Danni was named after Danny Thomas.

did you guys see Nancy Pelosi on TDS last night? what a douchebag she is.

I've noticed that Stewart, when he has someone that has written a good book, that has a real message, will actually talk about the book and what it is all about. Everybody else, he just makes jokes and snarky observations to fill the interview time.

They never even mentioned Pelosi's book once until the interview was over and certainly didn't talk about what it was about. Must be a real stinker.

If Pelosi gets re-elcted, I'm gonna go to Californication and slap every single registered voter.

slap every single registered voter.

what about the married ones?

hehe

Now you're in the minority, it's supposed to taste like a shit taco!

Gotta love it.

Works for almost any occasion!

Actually it's pretty fucking stupid. No wonder you keep posting it.
