The $50,000 was cash in a safe at our embassy intended for immediate distribution. Anyone who thinks that's all we'll do is a (insert pejorative here).

Italian authorities told the United States they did not need rescue teams, Wood said. President Barack Obama earlier offered his condolences on a visit to Turkey and voiced hope that the United States could send rescuers.
We offered to send rescue teams (which is expensive) but Italy said "Mama mia hell no!"
So, what more can we do.

When a disaster of this nature happens, it does not matter who or what the government is. Human beings are hurting and need help. I am not against help to anyone in these types of natural disaster situations. Religions, governments, races, should not matter. The offer should be made, if declined, that is a different situation, but at least, it was made. If accepted, fine. There is no loss in helping others. in cases like these. It is always a gain and a good feeling of satisfaction.

Send them an i-Pod!
Seriously though, Italy is not a poor third world country. Why do we need to send them anything? Italy is also part of the EUROPEAN UNION. I am sure the EUROPEANS can handle this.

Shit they have a Rich assed Country in the middle of Italy You would think they have everything covered including a phone line to G-d Himself. Italy has it covered.

"is this Obama's Katrina moment?"
If this turns out to be the biggest example of neglect during his presidency then we'll be very fortunate seeing as how he has no responsibility here because the quake wasn't in the US.
Of course, his budget that just got passed is a true example of irresponsibility but lets talk nonsense about non-issues instead.

When a country rejects help, you don't force it on them, nor do we need to continue to recklessly throw many at every little issue that pops up.
I say this to anyone who lives in an area where natural disasters occur....TFB. I am sick of the government coming in to help morons who wanna live on teh coast, yet don't want to have to deal with the consequences. Same thing for the mountains and deserts. Stop sending food to people who live in tundra wasteland.....if you can't provide for yourself, TFB. This will cull the herd, and those who want to risk living in an area prone to disaster, better learn to deal with it. I grew up with blizzards, floods and tornadoes. WE got flooded and moved to higher ground. Twisters came close enought to us with regularity that we built a re-inforced basement, and the blizzards were bad enough that we bought a wood stove and chopped our own wood. Heaven forbid we actually understand teh place wehere we live and deal with it. I was all for letting NO sink into the water, it's going to anyway, why delay the inevitable. Let teh Italians who want to live on an active mountain deal with it themselves. ACCOUNTABILITY!!!

Berlusconi initially turned away offers of international help following Monday's deadly earthquake in the Abuzzo capital city and surrounding towns that killed at least 150 people, injured 1,500 and left tens of thousands of homeless.
Berlusconi said he had a "long phone call" with U.S. President Barack Obama while touring temporary tent cities set up to house those left homeless, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.
"If the United States wants to give a tangible sign of its solidarity with Italy, it could take on the responsibility of rebuilding heritage sites and churches," Berlusconi said. "We would be very happy to have this support."
Italians apparently don't care about Italians, Skirts. Either that or you're just being stupid again...
"Iraq is George Bush's Vietnam"
Nixon at least got Peace with Honorable Mention when he surrendered. Bush got old shoes thrown at him. But as far as a useless, bullshit driven war that benefited America's adversaries more than it benefited America, they do have a lot in common.

No thanks, those churches never looked so good.
