Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Tuesday, March 24, 2009

President Obama presented a sober assessment of the state of the economy in his prime time news conference Tuesday, but he insisted his administration has a strategy in place to "attack this crisis on all fronts." "It took many years and many failures to lead us here. And it will take many months and many different solutions to lead us out. There are no quick fixes, and there are no silver bullets," he said.

"I realize that you are disappointed that I have not kept any of my campaign promises, but so what. You can't touch this!! Besides, I know that I can handle this job despite the fact that I have no executive experience, but neither did anyone else except Sarah Palin."

Barack Obama

Still campaigning. Maybe one day he will settle down and do some actual work. You know, like read the bailout bills so he doesn't found out after the fact that they allow bonus payments to AIG employees.

ha ha.

You poor saps make me chuckle.

Cry some more, I am going to gather people around to watch.

Just last week righties here were complaining he hadn't held enough press conferences.

Just can't please some people!

Perhaps the GOP will figure out what they're for. What they've said they're for they didn't do when in power. Now, they're nothing more than being opposed to anything and everything the opposition tries in extricating us from the disastrous last 8 years, when they did the opposite of everything they said they'd do if they got power.

Barack "Frankly my dear we won, so I don't give a damn"

Summary of tonight's Obama press conference:
1) Blame rich/Wall Street and then laugh at the economy again like on 60 Minutes. Brag about living in 132 room mansion called White House and travel in private taxpayer funded 747 Jumbo Jet Airforce One and private armoured super luxe limo. Take that coach riding Prius driving peons!!!!!
2) Compare Wall Street performace to "Special Olympics or something."
3) Hide Democrat responsibility for (i.e. Chris Dodd) for carving-out exec bonuses from caps then claim ignorance of such provisions - blame Bush
4) Hide the fact that no one actually read the stimulus bill and that it has done nothing but create greater debt - blame Bush
5) Ignorantly explain why giving AIG, a company with a market cap of 3.74 billion, a $200 billion investment of tax payer money when they were at the center of the derivative scandal but only giving $70 billion to help homewowners - blame Wall Street & Bush.
6) Tout tranparency but actively protect the identity of banks receiving hundreds of billions in federal aid but push aggressively to publish names of individual AIG execs to the public which brings about death threats to their families. Blame Bush.
7) More borrowing means more government power = more Obama power.
8) Exclude non-black journalist organizations from award ceremony from black journalists and then call for a nation to be united.

Got to love Obama!

Sarah Palin? lol

You are precious, lil' thommie.

Some day the righties will discover factcheck.org

Hey guys, could you please get out of the way?

Some of us are trying to point.

I'd rather watch dancing with the stars

Is he going to scare or comfort tonight?

maybe he will tell the country he is giving back all of the campaign money he took from them last year while he voted for the first bailout bill

Thanks UTASTAFF. You summed up Obama's speech in advance so now I don't need to listen to all those lies.

Much better.

i hope the teleprompter guy is up to speed tonight, last time he made obama look like what he was doing, reading someones speech off a teleprompter.

I would have been more impressed if he would have scheduled this on Party night.

Speaking of.......would you like to borrow one Tex?

I am thinking you might find one helpful.

Many, off the subject but a few people where claiming ammo to be in short supply on the nooner. How is supply in your neck of the woods?

another one? this guy's on the tele more often than all those disgusting "head-on" commercials and quite frankly, getting just as irritating.

I shoot bow bullets, arrows. I have plenty.

What is in short supply is the lead. (I live down the street from the Nosler plant)

Have you seen the price of lead? That's what happens when we deposite tons of that shit in a desert.

I going to check out Cabela's Wed. noon. That sucks.

Good for him.

Although 31 million are pissed he took American Idol off it's night.

Let's see--

When are you getting the dog?

What are you doing with "Gitmo dudes"?

What are you doing to combat "Overseas Contingency Operations"?

He will call on the same people and get the same kind of questions--like last time it was 13 questions and the one from Helen didn't count.

He was for the bonuses before he was against them.

"Mommy, that black man on TV lost his uniform and basketball and someone stretched his ears."

I hope somebody asks him about GM and Chrysler. More money or not? An Immigration question would be nice too.

Obama will do the usual ,cant answer any question asked. He will mumble and moan and maybe say well when i was 5 years old.He is a joke.Cant give a simple yes or no. Impeach Obama

Well, spamming is grounds for a dump.

NO, that's why they like FOX NEWS, they can lie and make up oppositions and claim it is fair because it is on a major network.

After FOX has said, they think it is OK to LIE and now admit they will give OPPOSITIONAL news, they cannot or ever be used as a creditable source.

"Some day the righties will discover factcheck.org"

I noticed they fixed the Lobbyist mistake.

Holly: [singing] When things go wrong, and life's no song, and you're flat on your back, that doesn't mean you have to lie there: be a jumping jack!
Buttons: [singing] Keep on the hop, and if you flop, and everything looks black, stand on your head and holler "hi there!" Be a jumping jack!
Holly: When things go up, they must come down, and also visa verse. If things look bad, don't fret and frown - they could be ten times worse!
Buttons: Your train of luck, it may get stuck if something's on the track; give a good jump and you'll get by there...
Holly, Buttons: Be a jumping jack!

I have a list here because I want to be asked the RIGHT questions.

Please tell me which MAJOR network is fair and balanced?

Chuck Tyler

" Mr. president, may I please get on my knees"

Jake Tapper;

"Mr. President, may I get on my knees also"

Tough questions there.

I like the way he sidestepped the difficult question of why it took so long for him to speak out on AIG bonuses, when his administration OK'd them.

Where da libbies at?

Raising taxes will not effect charitable giving? Is he smokng crack again?

Obama believes 1 in 50 children are homeless? Give me a break. Even Bush was not that STUPID.

What a fucking libtard tool.

can he PLEASE answer a question.

And his answer about not being able to write off charitable contributions was laughably stupid.

The real answer is "charities are bad the government is coming to fix everything."

Unbelievable.

(Us moderates are snickering at the comments here. We know it's tough watching a Presidential press conference where the president uses multisyllabic words and hasn't leaned on the podium once nor lectured the press corp what simple words mean)

Or answer a fucking question, or actually get a tough question. Must be nice to be able to pick your questions.

(PS Chicken ... $130,000,000,000 of the $160,000,000,000 given to AIG happened before Jan 20th, and all of it is under TARP - proposed by the previous administration. Under the previous administration we have no idea where any of the money was spent by the recipients. They won't say)

Danni, is that you?

Speaking for the masses again I see.

(back to the press conference)

"Mr. President. Your budget proposal increases the deficit to 7 TRILLION dollars. What do you say to the congressmen calling that irresponsible?"

"I say they have short memories and forget I inherited a 1 trillion dollar deficit."

Huh? the last guy did it to a trillion. I can do that times SEVEN!

Thats an answer?

Not to but in but that was the warning the left gave when GWB was amassing his power. Once those powers were attained by the right they will be used by the left.

See just how funny that is?

Ummm.. how does secretary Geithner and the economy have to do with Israel and palestine??????

WOW.

Diarrhea of the mouth.

TGNH

We're not watching the same press conference it would seem.

BTW, WHO proposed TARP? WHO told us the 'sky is falling' at the 11th hour and 59th minute demanding immediate action 'or else'? If you can find a link saying the Democratically controlled Congress did, I'll give you $20.

Gee, if Paulson had seen fit to clue in Congress to the looming crisis a couple months earlier maybe it could have been done differently. But, facts are, he said we had to do something right away - not a second to lose.

"Us moderates are snickering at the comments here."

AMERICAN UNTIDY

Fine

Is it just me or did Emanuel look like he was rtrying to tell President Obama to shut his trap with his finger over his mouth like that?

and

#54: How is that funny? the left says the "power amassed by GWB" was bad...so they compromise their principles and instead of dimantling when they have the chance..they use them too.

Yikes.

And I am not really sure what "power" Bush amassed as it pertains to deficit spending.

#56 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY

I'll give you $20.

You are willing to bet a whole weeks allowance?

If Washington were to calculate according to the accounting practices corporations have to follow, his budget deficit would be $6 Trillion. The difference is that they don't set aside revenue for future expenses like SS and Medicare. Total debt is about $70 Trillion and rising fast.

You might as well resign to the fact that Washington is bankrupt. Without borrowing and manufactured money, they can't meet their obligations. When they run out of creditors, that leaves manufactured money.

#56: Oh please. Something had to be done...and sure I hate the stimulus package with every fiber of my being but I understand the WHY behind it.

This budget proposal has ZERO to do with affecting the eonomic crisis and everything to do with putting us into CRUSHING deficit.

Well Jake, I know your no Gannon but with a little practice? Maybe?

TGNH

Reducing health care costs (the biggest drag on our economy), increasing scientific research and other steps to grow the economy (and increase revenue) won't reduce deficits?

I can see the truth behind the assertion half of all kids don't graduate from high school now.

Were you aware Bell Labs - who invented the transistor, laser, and many of the other technologies that made the internet and cell phones possible - is no longer in existence? Without an investment in science, technology, and education in America we'll continue on the down slope.

Just what would YOU propose we do to grow the economy? The Bush tax cuts in a time of war have led to massive deficits and record national debt. So, let's just rule that one out as a single idea that works. Our economy hasn't grown in 8 years. It's worse than it was in 2001.

Obama clearly laid out what investments he's proposing in his budget to grow the economy. The last 8 years have seen the U.S. as less and less a force in innovation and development of new technologies that create jobs and wealth in America.

I laugh at your future unemployment.

I know how hard you try to be an asshole, but here are the facts:

-My dad was a factory worker who never brought home more than $200 in any one week.

-I left for California after high school with $20 and a one way plane ticket my dad gave me.

-If you want to attempt to be snarky about something, don't whine when someone posts something in relation to that snark with a tongue in cheek response.

-I've never bragged about what I do. I'm sorry my career upsets you so.

It would be really hard to determine or understand why you're such an incessant asshole. So I don't.

PS I know what most of the posters here do for a living. They've said so. Some sound like they have cool jobs. Jobs a job in any case. Same as mine.

Bwahaha. I do what I want, Tiger.

Hey- my teleprompter can beat up your teleprompter!

Now what is amazing is that although there were some tough questions--which he danced around--he did not ask one question from the business media.

Nothing from Newsweek, WSJ, Washington Compost--nothing.

And he is using fuzzy math--

He wants to explode the gov't spending with his 3.6 TRILLION dollar budget--there is no way to cut that in half in four years eight years or 12 years.

How in the world does spending 634 BILLION on health care cut spending?

He answered the charity question but failed to answer the mortgage deduction part of the question.

And leave it to the reporter NOT to follow up.

So he complains he inherited this mess--although the bonuses are under his watch--fine.

He complains that they can't keep doing the same things that got us into this mess in the first place--borrowing and spending.

So what does he propose??

Greater MASSIVE borrowing and spending!

If it wasn't so tragic and dire for the country--it would be funny.

No wonder he giggles.

And that is why he was so boring tonight --he was chastized by Rahm or Michelle that the giggles had to stop--at least for tonight.

"....uh uh...look- I....

And he had the jumbo telepromter in the back of the room.

So what.

He was boring.

So what.

He wanted to sell his 3.6 trillion dollar budget that he hasn't seen yet.

He failed on that score. And this is a good thing for the country --to stop this budget of 3.6 trillion dollars.

And he had the jumbo telepromter in the back of the room.

There are two photos of the jumbo tele...

Are you serious that Rahm said there wasn't one there?

Did he actually say "Move from a era of borrow and spend to save and invest"

Frick!

Gee, who'd have suspected Presidents use a teleprompter when they're giving pre-press conference statements?

I'm SHOCKED! SHOCKED I TELL YA!

Yeah--Obama said that and didn't giggle.

I don't really care he uses a teleprompter.

He has to.

And I called it right--13 questions!

The "Teleprompter" topic is about as scandalous as the "Birthers".

Every President since teleprompters were invented have used them. Before that, they read off typed or handwritten paper.

Now, compare the ability of Obama or Bill Clinton or Bush 41 to answer questions with multisyllabic words, multi part answers and nuance to the last guy - who leaned on the podium and lectured a roomful of English majors on the meaning of uncomplicated words most 6th graders understand.... then made up a few new ones himself.

I think you're all 'misunderestimating' Obama. LOL

For thirty years the Oligarchy cries, there's no money for that, enforced with chinese labor.

Then suddenly, they empty the Treasury, for the sake of the crooks that bought our politicians.

Amen Nutcase.

And if folks were sitting at home they were trying to find American Idol and then fell asleep watching Obama tonight.

He could recite the entire Constitution verbatim (true) to an answer about the Constitution and it still wouldn't be good enough for you. You're as obsessed with bashing Obama as WISGOD is following me around from thread to thread and being a pest even when I'm not talking to him.

Sez who?

BTW, #1 on Amazon...

Anyone who knows what they're talking about. Publishers around the world for starters.

As to the #1 on Amazon, I'm glad young Republicans are reading anything at all. From the posts I read here, they aren't reading very many factual articles or books, nor do they possess curious minds or read history very much.

Unless a book makes it to the top five on the NYT's bestseller's list it's all gladhanding and backslapping. Nothing more.

. "We have made the tough choices necessary to cut our deficit in half by the end of my first term even under the most pessimistic estimates"

can someone name one tough choice obama has made to cut the deficit by even one dollar?

just took me 5 mins.to find obama about 500 million dollars of fraud and abuse in a program with almost no oversight.

WASHINGTON Because of lax oversight, undeserving companies collected millions in federal contracts from an $8 billion government program designated for small businesses in poor neighborhoods, congressional investigators charge.

i'm sure the dems. will be all over this, not.

Obama orders overhaul of `broken' US contracting
AP

WASHINGTON Blasting Bush-era government contracting, President Barack Obama on Wednesday ordered an overhaul designed to halt the delays, waste and blatant fraud that exasperate the public and politicians alike...

..."It starts with reforming our broken system of government contracting," Obama said. "There is a fundamental public trust that we must uphold. The American people's money must be spent to advance their priorities, not to line the pockets of contractors or to maintain projects that don't work."...

...Obama signed a presidential memo with two key parts.

The first orders his budget chief, with help from other agency heads, to come up with guidance by July 1 for how the entire government can review its existing contracts and identify ones that are wasteful or not essential. Those contracts would then be subject to being modified or canceled.

The other part directs the budget director, Peter Orszag, to issue even broader guidance to all agencies by Sept. 1. It will spell out improved oversight, including more limits on no-bid contracts, help agencies in putting together staffs to do that oversight and clarify when sending government work to private companies is OK.

i hope the teleprompter guy is up to speed tonight, last time he made obama look like what he was doing, reading someones speech off a teleprompter.
#15 | Posted by semtex111

Guess what, Tex? Never happened.

Oh, I know Limbaaaaw brayed on about it---how Ireland's Cowen got up and started reading Obama's speech from a teleprompter, and how Obama got up and started reading Cowen's speech from the telepromter. Hardee-hardee-har. But---and I hate to burst the bubble that keeps you trapped in a atsmophere of heavy ignornace---but it simply didn't happen.

Should you deign to educate yourself on the matter, there's a thread up about that this morining at www.drudge.com

Yup - answers that required more than a bumper sticker response. People like nanc should just change the channel - they've become marginalized cranks anway, and are only useful to poke fun at on these boards. Gotta LOVE the nitwit who complained that the answers can't be just "yes" or "no". They'll get their chance to rally around their idea of positive leaders when they can campaign for Jindal and Palin in 2012. There they can "exorcise" their rights to talk nonsense among others of their own kind. In the meantime, I know they be concentrated here, and I'll drop in from time to time to keep track of the latest Fox talking points and patheticly hypocritical criticisms of the President.

Thanks UTASTAFF. You summed up Obama's speech in advance so now I don't need to listen to all those lies.

I particularly agree with #s 4 & 6 as they bug me the most. Definitely the not reading part, it just blows my mind we will accept laws made by politicians who haven't even read what they're selling.

"LOL! Yeah, the "Praise da lawd, he goin pay my mogage" & "Obama goin do his foshizzle thang you know?" crowd have an impressive command of the English language."

Was there any thought whatever behind this or is it just unrelated syllables.

Hey, you're the one bringing up "too many big words for some people" like a smartass & the apparent inability to understand "details" which really means someone had the audacity to disagree with you & your messiah.

Some of the "every man" geniuses we've seen as supporters of the one do not give you the right to make those claims. Glass house & all.

"which really means someone had the audacity to disagree with you & your messiah."

But you didn't disagree with anything he said, all you did was make a mindless comment. I stand by my first post...too many details and big words for some folks....like you.

Perhaps I'm being unfair, maybe you haven't had the opportunity to get the talking points yet.

It looked like the Press were out to prove they were independent of the Pres, you know, build 'em up, knock 'em down, but he set the right tone and was, as usual, the smartest one in the room.

If more Presidents had given answers like the one he gave on the bonuses, we'd have less lying in the office.

What I hope the American people took away from this is that all the hand-wringing about Socialism and saddling our children with debt is about the difference in the rich paying 39 percent instead of 36 percent, and whether we grow 2.2 percent in the out years or 2.6, both of which are likely very low numbers.

"But you didn't disagree with anything he said, all you did was make a mindless comment. I stand by my first post...too many details and big words for some folks....like you"

"Fool" of course being Danni-speak for "you disagree with me or the one" when I didn't even comment on what was said or not. I'm still smarting the "I didn't read it so I didn't know thing" from last week so I'm taking everything with a grain of salt. Listening & weighing my thoughts. Drones, like you, don't have to do that so I'm not expecting you to recongnize it for what it is. You continue to be Obama's defensive, junk-yard dog, when I didn't even insult him or his speech. Is that a preemtive strike? Say it ain't so you Bushie?!

"Perhaps I'm being unfair, maybe you haven't had the opportunity to get the talking points yet"

You usually are unfair, that's nothing new. Talking points? You're in a fierce running w/ Rasta on most predictable. I don't need talking points Danni, not a drone, I'm a wait & see kind of girl. Everytime I hear something hear lately, I end up seeing something different, so I'm waiting & watching. You should try it instead of being a sycophant. It's both refresing & depressing.

Some day the righties will discover factcheck.org

#8 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY

Some day maybe partisan shits will too.

A MoveOn.org Political Action ad plays the partisan blame game with the economic crisis, charging that John McCain's friend and former economic adviser Phil Gramm "stripped safeguards that would have protected us." The claim is bogus. Gramm's legislation had broad bipartisan support and was signed into law by President Clinton. Moreover, the bill had nothing to do with causing the crisis, and economists not to mention President Clinton praise it for having softened the crisis.

A McCain-Palin ad, in turn, blames Democrats for the mess. The ad says that the crisis "didn't have to happen," because legislation McCain cosponsored would have tightened regulations on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. But, the ad says, Obama "was notably silent" while Democrats killed the bill. That's oversimplified. Republicans, who controlled the Senate at the time, did not bring the bill forward for a vote. And it's unclear how much the legislation would have helped, as McCain signed on just two months before the housing bubble popped.

Try to at least be somewhat honest. Larry King is NOT a direct comparison to the O'Reilly's and Hannity's of the airwaves. He's a lightweight, his show is lightweight, and nobody expects anything more of him than softballs and semi-senile attempts at humor.

Cry some more, I am going to gather people around to watch.

Party at Manypaths'! We're all going over to watch him blog; he says he even snuck a wine cooler from the fridge when his dad wasn't looking! OOH hehehe!

hey Ive got another 3 or 4 on the subject
its obamas fault for providing so much in his infomercial that was just wrong or misleading.

Much more efficient to post a link to an article debunking his bull shit, with say, a short excerpt to inspire interest.

why in the hell did they not put someone else on it?

he is more at home with hollywood and the 'dark' side of american lives
but if you heard it , then YOU Would know why
they are old buddies apparently and they showed that all through it.
I just thought someone else would have asked better questions.

Why waste your time? AmericanUnity will debunk everything once he sobbers up and logs on.

because of a couple of things

1)..it pisses them off just to see my name on the bottom of a post

2)...I like to get them riled up because it will normally show them for the hatefilled and mean people that so called "PROGRESIVES" really are

3)...most importantly...because..'the truth shall set you free'

Responded to that same day, suppose you didn't see it....

Google Jamillah Muhammad whom Obama hired back in the day & see if cutting your teeth around racist, anti-military assholes like her doesn't show contempt for the military? Just like Ayers & his good Reverand, but you guys give a pass on the company you keep line unless it comes from the right don't you?

That & trying to stick it to vets for health coverage until people got pissed & you back off. Nice to know you're heart is in the right place Mr. President.

hate

you can also look at things written about both carter and clinton and how the military took a dive under both administrations.
its surprising with carter with him being an ex navy man too
but with clinton being a draft dodger, its not so surprising

(here is where leftists insert something about bush and his service record...all brought to you by the good people at cbs news AND DAN RATHER)....hee hee

Interesting piece on last night's press conference at www.huffingtonpost.com

Excerpt:

If you look at the breakdown, a pattern emerges: the "traditional" media outlets brought the repetitive, dull, blunt force trauma, and the smaller, less-called-upon outfits provided the evening's flavor:

TRADITIONAL
Associated Press: Spending and budgets.
MSNBC: Spending and budgets, masquerading as a question on "sacrifice."
ABC News: Spending and budgets.
CBS News: Spending and budgets.
CNN: AIG bonuses, spending and budgets, invitation to publicly crush Ed Henry's balls, like so many seedless grapes.
FOX NEWS: Sino-Russo currency conspiracy theories.

NON-TRADITIONAL
UNIVISION: Violence in Mexico.
STARS AND STRIPES: Spending and budgets, but specifically related to care for veterans.
POLITICO: Charitable donation taxes.
EBONY: Homelessness.
ABC RADIO: Race.
WASHINGTON TIMES: Stem cell research, scientific ethics.
AGENCE FRANCE PRESS: Israel/Palestinian peace process.

President Schwartzenegger--your choice. No liberals

Arnold a conservative are you nucking futs?

Since the inauguration, has BHO ever answered a policy or economy question without reminding everyone that the problems he and his administration are dealing with are not his fault?
He reminds me of a Corporal we have here who cannot speak a sentence without pointing out someone else's failures.
The strategy is simple:
If you can't shine on your own merits, knock everyone around you so you are the only one left standing.
Only 2 months and his deflections are already wearing thin.
It's gonna be a long 4 years.

America's problems can't be fixed.

Like the Philippines and Mexico, our government is corrupt beyond saving.

There is no example in the history mankind of how bankrupt America is.

We are alone in that category and beyond any hope of debt repayment.

This country will commonly be referred to as a Developing Nation within 10 years time.

Montecore-
I assume it will be Bendor and his "Marine Corp" buddies who will be interpreting the Constitution to us at gunpoint?

A military coup in America is inevitable.

Our thoroughly discredited elected Government will not be able to maintain order and discipline.

When the riots start.
