Though Fox News claims that it is "fair and balanced" in its news coverage, in an interview with NPR, Fox News senior vice president Bill Shine said that the network is consciously aiming to be "the voice of opposition" to the Obama administration "on some issues."

Shouldn't news networks always be the voice of opposition? Does this mean Fox was the mouthpiece for the Bush admin? I think we all know the answer to that question.

I think "voice of oversight, investigation, and illumination" works well. By staking out the "opposition" corner a organization like Fox puts itself in the position not of creating a picture that conveys (hopefully) some degree of accuracy and insight, but, rather, a frame in which to fit a picture that's already been painted.

Make that "the voice of oversight, investigation, and illumination as long as the results are favorable to Repubs or critical of Dems" and I can agree with that characterization, Doc.

Bill Shine, admitted that the network is consciously aiming to be "the voice of opposition" to the Obama administration "on some issues."

Hmmm. And they still lead in ratings. Interesting.

And they still lead in ratings. Interesting.

People like fiction.

"And they still lead in ratings."

I'm sure NBC, ABC, and CBS will be interested to hear that.

Like any fool thinks he was comparing Fox News to a Network...

Anything to play the game though.

"Like any fool thinks he was comparing Fox News to a Network."

No, he was obviously pretending networks don't exist. Until, of course, Fox wants to bash on the MSM.

Excuse me for not having my lawyer examine #4 and adding the Network caveat.

That's a weird interpretation of his comments. Anyone that applied common sense and wasn't interested in playing your game of nit-picking would automatically assume he was comparing them against the other cable news channels.

Perhaps you've seen the charts that are on Drudge Report weekly that compare the cable news networks audiences and aree widely discussed here on the retort?

But please, by all means, continue to play your usual game.

Thanks for the much needed emendation, OWS.

"would automatically assume he was comparing them against the other cable news channels."

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight, Because ratings are only important if you shift the parameters so you can crow you're winning.

If Fox bashes the MSM all the time as supporting the Democrats, and those folks have double the viewership of Fox's top shows, aren't the Networks (and therefore the Democrats) leading "in the ratings"?

I assumed he was talking about vs other 24 hour news channels. NBC, ABC, and CBS only broadcast news for like 3 hours a day.

If Fox bashes the MSM all the time as supporting the Democrats, and those folks have double the viewership of Fox's top shows, aren't the Networks (and therefore the Democrats) leading "in the ratings"?

Hard to say since broadcast news is generally on from 6am-10am; 5:30-7:00pm; and 10:30-11:30pm. The broadcast channels could dominate those times, but since Fox is 24 hours, it could get and should get far more viewers over the course of a day and that would give them larger weekly numbers than brodcast news would get.

That's what everyone else would logically assume. Danforth assumed it as well, but couldn't help but play his game.

It's because he's an independant...

"...."the voice of opposition" to the Obama administration "on some issues.""

Thank God! SOMEBODY needs to voice opposition to "some issues." When the majority of Americans oppose "card check," bailouts, amnesty and other malarky, what's wrong with that majority having a "voice?"
I largely agree with THIS guy:

www.youtube.com

Whatever fools their viewers.

I just do not understand why so many people subject themselves to the negativity that is cable news or any news for that matter.

It make no fucking sense at all.

It's worse for you than smoking.

Do yourselves a favor and turn the shit off. You will be so glad that you did.

It's just a ride.

"I just do not understand why so many people subject themselves to the negativity that is cable news or any news for that matter."

I guess you're just watching the celebrity tours and still getting tingles up your leg, right? SOME of us wanna know what in hell is REALLY going on in this country.

"It make no fucking sense at all."

We can see that's the case for you. Stick with MTV, you'll feel all better.

MTV? See? None of that news watching is making you any smarter. And I would say you are more jaded because of it.

Assume all that you want, but I know what an idiot that makes you.

Enjoy being fed the thoughts of talking heads dude.

You're addicted. Seek help. It's easier than you think.

It's like the weather. You can't do a God Damn thing about it. Enjoy that realization one day. The sooner the better. Trust me.

instead of bloviating

do what I do some of the time

put both cnn and fox on split screens if you have it and if not put the clicker on previous channel and go back and forth and you will see every bit as much biased programs and people on cnn as you will ever see on fox...........
so why is it that cnn never gets this sort of treatment..I mean I know why but why isnt that bullshit called out.

It's a disgrace for the head of a news source that makes any claims toward impartiality could say in the next breath that he wants to be the voice of opposition. Look, I know everyone has their biases. But crowing about them automatically lowers your credibility.

So this must mean that during the Bush years Fox was the Voice of Loyal Support.

Good, that will need to be known when the subpoenas and the Frog Marching Starts (which it will just as soon as the bush created economic crisis is repaired).

AFK,
CNN got this kind of treatment all during the Clinton years. Remember "Clinton New Network," or my personal favorite "Certainly Not News?" Then, with Bush, we had Faux news. Under Obama, it looks like MSNBC will be the cheerleading section.

In related news, the sun rose in the east this morning.

But its nice to see Rush and FOX stop pretending they are anything but Republican shills. Now if the "conservatives" would just stop pretending they are anything other thandie hard Republicans....

So, is "he voice of the opposition" hoping Obama will fail too???
Is the opposition opposed to a recovery???
Is there actually another game in town???
What is the "voice of opposition's" plan???

The Oregon Ducks are the leading football team around!

Oh yeah, except for pro teams.

And a few SEC teams.

Oh yeah, and not counting USC.

Anyone who thought I was talking about all football teams when I said "the leading team" is just playing their usual game. Of course I meant leading team in the Northwest, except for the NFL team in Seattle.

"With this particular group of people in power right now, and the honeymoon they've had from other members of the media, does it make it a little bit easier for us to be the voice of opposition on some issues?"

That is the quote from leftist Think Progress in an interview with leftist NPR. It was a question and not a statement.
Shine admitted to nothing. What is true is that since there is no opposition to Obama's agenda from any of the major networks then if Fox questions Obama's agenda that would make it seem that Fox is the voice of opposition because they are the only ones asking any questions.

Some people just do not understand what they read.

President Obama once said in a Fox (REPUBLICAN)News interview that if he only watched Fox new, He wouldn't vote for Himself either....

If anyone wants to know what wrong with the Democratic Party, tune into the Fox (REPUBLICAN) News channel. Cause if you do within minutes of tuning in you will get the talking points, this is at any time 24/7 every day every minute....

From FOX AN FRIENDS, thru ORIELLY, HANNITY, 24/7 of stacked panels, there has never been anything like this in History of National telecast, those clowns would like to have people believe that the are FAIR AN BALANCED, What a fucking joke....

The on air talent(HAHAHAHA) at Fox almost have an Orgasm when they have a story that make the other Networks or Newspapers look what they conceive as BAD!!!! Check it out see if you can go ONE DAY, ONE SHOW without the bashing of either the Democratic Party or some Major Newspaper in this Country, CANNOT HAPPEN WILL NOT HAPPEN, this is what they do!!!!!!!

Hey, with Fox cheering him on Bush brought our economy to wher it is now, if you aren't smart enough to find somewhere else to get your news then there is very little chance that anyone can help you.

So this must mean that during the Bush years Fox was the Voice of Loyal Support.

when Tony Snow left FOX and had to tone down his adulation of all things Republican to take the job as WH spokesperson, it means exactly that.

Look, I know everyone has their biases. But crowing about them automatically lowers your credibility.

or you could say it was worse to talk as if you WERENT TOTALLY in the tank for obama like cnn

is it worse to admit it or to lie about it???

CNN got this kind of treatment all during the Clinton years. Remember "Clinton New Network," or my personal favorite "Certainly Not News?" Then, with Bush, we had Faux news. Under Obama, it looks like MSNBC will be the cheerleading section.

you are correct..

I bow to you in all humbleness.........

If FOX were really fair and balanced it wouldn't have to say so. People would know. So it follows when they protest too much that they are fair and balanced it's just their pathetically transparent attempt to disguise that they are anything but.

so celisary

I guess you missed hannity last night on that panel

a black civil rights lawyer who was completely lefitst...and the heavy set guy he has on there from time to time whose name I cant remember but he was in on the carter years and the 3rd one was a lady reporter from foz

lets see..I believe if im counting right..
thats two rightwingers
and two leftwingers..

looks pretty much split down the middle to me

and I guess you missed the TWO PART debate with phil donahue last week................
DAMN...maybe you are right

THERES TOO MUCH LEFTISTS BULLSHIT From guests on fox.

Whatever fools their viewers.

Yes, turn off that Baloney News Network called FOXNEWS. Instead, turn on People Magazine, The National Enquirer, The Star, The Globe, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC to get the real scoop. Turn off FOX and go for the shit, America...and the truth will set you free.

MSM sheeple are dumber than dirt, and got double dipped in the stupid pond!

KBm....you brought up npr

and here is a LEFT WING media that WE HELP PAY FOR with taxes
no wonder leftists dont ever want to bring them up

but one thing we can all surely agree on

cspan is by far and away the most bipartisan and unbiased network we have and I think it has to do with thier people not giving us what they think and that they have no talking heads per se.

and the heavy set guy he has on there from time to time

bob bectel

Who cares what Fox News has to say at this juncture. They are as irrelevant to the formation of National policy as every other Republican group in the country. The Wilderness is the Wilderness no matter how they spin it.

So is it now FOX NOS?

north..I believe it is fox..# one

"when Tony Snow left FOX and had to tone down his adulation of all things Republican to take the job as WH spokesperson, it means exactly that."

A list of admitted Accomplices will be a Good thing to have when Justice eventually comes to Bush World (and it will)!

The worst thing about Fox News is Joe Scarface.

I can't stand that pissy little bastard.

The only thing Faux news is the opposition to is the Age of Reason.

There are no real liberals in power or on tv. Not one.

OK, it's settled. All of us "rightwingers" admit that Fox has a definite consertive/Republican bias.

Now how many of you "leftwingers" are going to admit that most of the print and television media has a liveral/Democrat bias?

Remember that there are data on this such as the donations made by newspaper editors and producers to left versus right organizations and candidates. It's about 85% to 15% to liberal causes.

So there is a lot of bias out there. Deal with it.

If you don't like Fox don't fucking watch it!

Like this is news. I've always considered FOX opposed - to America and those who want it to be a decent place for ordinary people.

Remember, it's only RIGHT to be Patriotic when it's a republican in the White House!

-FAUX News and it's followers

I have always wondered ---- how can the Truth be Fair and Balanced?

It makes no sense.

Does it mean that to provide balance to truth Fox has to counter it with a Lie?

And what now if the Side of Truth happens to be in agreement with the Obama Administration?

Faithful Fox Viewers Must Be Idiots!

The worst thing about Fox News is Joe Scarface.

I can't stand that pissy little bastard.

That's what his secretary said just before he killed her. He got a way with it because nobody believed a Republican adulterer could be straight.

"FORT WALTON BEACH, FL. - Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old office worker for Rep. Joe Scarborough (R-Fl), was found dead in the congressman's district office. Police said preliminary findings from the medical examiner's office showed no foul play or any outward indication of suicide."

Unbelievably, that was it. The story was simply dropped. A young female employee of one of Florida's Congressmen had died unexpectedly in the Congressman's office. There were no witnesses to her death and the cause of death was not apparent. Klausutis' boss, Joe Scarborough had recently resigned from Congress prematurely and unexpectedly, amid rumors about his marital fidelity and soon after a divorce.

Am I confused here? Scarborough is on MSNBC, not Fox.

It's a disgrace for the head of a news source that makes any claims toward impartiality could say in the next breath that he wants to be the voice of opposition. Look, I know everyone has their biases. But crowing about them automatically lowers your credibility.

Sort of like Chris Matthews saying that it was his job to make the president look good. Dude, there's bias on every single news network. Most of which is biased towards the left. You people bitch because there's one channel that actually takes up for conservatives.

"Am I confused here? Scarborough is on MSNBC, not Fox."

He should be on Fox but he is still on MSNBC.

Sort of like Chris Matthews saying that it was his job to make the president look good. Dude, there's bias on every single news network. Most of which is biased towards the left. You people bitch because there's one channel that actually takes up for conservatives.

Sort of like that, yeah. Matthews isn't a whole network, though. Jeez.

NEWS and OPPOSITION ????

Some how that just doesn't seem like news.

I like my news just giving me the facts, there are other shows and programs that can be oppositional but the news should be just the facts.

ON SOME ISSUES

You fucking idiots......

You are so use to NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC,CNN just laying down and spreading their legs you hate it when a REAL news organization has the BALLS to stand up to your messiah.

57 | Posted by cbob

His bias is...

#53 | Posted by northguy3

Your point?

I just finished reading this entire thread, and not one single person wanted FACTS.

If you people don't want or could careless about the news giving you FACTS, why call it NEWS.

Why not STORIES, or some other name that reflects partisan maybe happenings.

FOX TV,the tireless supporter and defender of America's Right-Wing-Fascist-Corporate-
Elite!!!

FOX is Right! It is the "Voice of Opposition" but its oposition is to Democracy,Free Speech and Civil Rights! FOX is vehemently opposed to anything except the rule of its owners who make up America's Right-Wing-Fascist-Corporate-
Elite!!!

#63 | Posted by AntiCadillac

We must have voices of opposition in this country. I am sorry there are voices of opposition to your messiah.

I am quite sure you voiced no opposition to Bush.

I think you are smoking crack.

We must have voices of opposition in this country.

Yes, but most prudent rational people don't expect opposition from """NEWS""" reporting.

Kind of removes actual facts of just reporting about what happened.

well let me help you out a little

for instance the story that helped get bernie goldberg in trouble at cbs was his article about how execs at cbs would not let a story go out wihtout some sort of leftists slant to it or things like that

for instance...he did a survey of how many times politicians were called...the conservative congressman and then just give the liberals name
does that matter??? hell yes it does because they are trying to demonize and slant the thinking of the reader against the conservative....if it doesnt matter then why is it usually that way???

and thats just one way to make the truth unfair ....

dear mister celisary

you keep references fox and friends. would you please recognize that this show you speak of is more like the today show than others and since you are so concerned with thier makeup maybe you could do the same with the other morning shows.
and I want to also thank you for the wonderfull way you chose to interject your stirling comments into the conversation. it really shows me that we on the right are completely on track and on message with how important it is to take the country back from the abyss of liberalism.

you sir, are a part of our solution and we thank you.

someone forgot to take their meds today, and if the mental hospital keeps leaving the doors unlocked, then more people liek CELISARY will be getting out.

this guy has many more issues than just being WRONG, or an Idiot, this guys is must messed up..

Obama = Omistake
Change we can believe in...... only God can help us now..

only God can help us now..

no...actually you and I and the thousands of others who are pissed off

the backlash is on its way

Have you heard their new slogan?

FOX NEWS: WE REPORT, WE DECIDE.

Stupidity deserves a voice too.

no...actually you and I and the thousands of others who are pissed off

the backlash is on its way

Take it from a member of a much larger and more pissed off group.

It Ain't Going To Do You A Damn Bit Of Good

See you at the next election.
