When is this guy going to quit campaigning?

I wonder if he will take his teleprompter with him?

Way to downgrade the perception of the Office. What's next, a summer county fair tour?

I hear he going to be handing out free dvds....

Funny that the Right forgets that this whole thing about Presidents going on Late Night and Primetime shows got it's start with Tricky Dick Nixon when He made a cameo appearance on comedies show Sock It To Me. Hell even Dubya went on Saturday Night Live when He was campaigning for the Presidency the first time around.

Larry

Yes Larry. W was Campaigning. So what is Obama doing?

I think Obama should forgo making appearances on comedy shows like Bush gave up golf.

2 St. Patrick's parties on Tuesday, Leno on Wednesday. How about being a President on Thursday, if it's not too much to ask.

Funny they want Obama to "Be" President 24/7 but they were silent when Dubya took more vacation time than all of the previous Presidents combined. Funny Dat Be.

Larry

Funny Dat Be.

So you're saying that Obama's party schedule/comedy show appearance is fine now because republicans didn't complain about bush's vacation before?

Funny DAT Be.

What is wrong with Him going on Jay Leno HC?? Isn't He supposed to be a President of ALL the people?? If so shouldn't He state His policies and views on not only on the White House Lawn but on Jay Leno too?? Those watching Jay Leno are Americans too.

Larry

Don't confuse him Hagbard.

Larry has the BlOod of iNnOCEnt cIVilIAns on HiS HAnds.

I don't think that Leno fans wait for the 1130 monologue to get their current events Larry.

I don't know HC Many go to The Daily Show to learn about the current events going on in the world around them so it's not a stretch at all.

Larry

After yesterday, maybe B.O. can do the Monoloque and Jay offer a few realistic policies....

Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen was just a few paragraphs into an address in Washington when he realised it all sounded a bit too familiar.

It was. He was repeating the speech President Barack Obama had just read from the same teleprompter.

Mr Cowen stopped, turned to the president and said: "That's your speech."

A laughing Mr Obama returned to the podium to take over but it seems the script had finally been switched and the US president ended up thanking himself for inviting everyone to the party.

Damn do you think Obama has time for this shit I mean with all the parties and wing dings and hangovers how is he going to have time to promote himself. The only way to fix the current mess we are in is to remove all liars and thieves from office I know it's part of their job description but I think everyone is tired of the absolute and total corruption by Republicans and Democrats in congress the senate and the Presidency. All should be removed from office and replaced with actual representatives who do what is right for our country fuck these bastards...

Larry,

Trying to justify one person's behavior by pointing to another person's is intellectually dishonest.

"But Mommy, Billy did it too"

What is wrong with Him going on Jay Leno

----

There are more pressing things for him to do. Like fix the economy.

Not that I think he can fix it but I could probably find many more important things he could be doing.

Appearing on Leno is reaching out to the public. He really also needs to appear on the number one radio talk show in America and give Rush an interview. I hate Rush, but right now Rush's audience's only impression of Obama is how Rush painted him. To appear on the show would allow him to define himself.

There are more pressing things for him to do.

Like training with his teleprompter roadies after yesterdays fiasco.

I didn't think biden let him stay up that late.

Never happen.

Too big of a chickensh*t.

Too big of a chickensh*t.

#24 | Posted by American1st at 2009-03-18 12:21 PM

They both are. Obama wouldn't take the risk and Rush would never have Obama on because he would have to show Obama respect and lose a lot with his audience in the process.

I think he would show the President respect, and not lose anything with his audience. I based my opinion on the fact that none of the Dem candidates would appear on Fox before the primary, proving to me, at least, they are inherently chickenshits.

again

perfectedly summed up by bernie goldberg

this is a "CHARM OFFENSIVE" or something to that effect

thats all this is and little more

no sitting president would have ever done it and didnt I dont believe........

so do you think leno will throw him a couple of fastballs or just a few curves.....thats a silly question isnt it?

I'm sure when Dubya used to do photo-ops with "folks" while eating kettlecorn at the El Paso Tortilla Festival, you thought that was demeaning.

Nah, he was a "regular guy." Obama's an "elistist." I forgot.

That being said, this teleprompter incident was a public speaking gaffe of Bushian proportions.

Was there a drudge thread on the teleprompter incident? I must've completely missed it.

I don't think there was. An earlier poster mentioned it in this thread.

Just like Clintoon...has to get his fix of adoring lib pop culture airhead whackos...

Predictably the Obama haters can't stand the fact that the President is popular, has a nice personality and is sociable. They seem so jealous and petty these days, much like angry junior high school girls who don't like the popular girl who doesn't pay attention to them. It's going to be a very long eight years for them. For the rest of us I think President Obama is doing a great job dealing with the catastrophe the Republicans left for the adults and smiles and happiness demonstrate that their mean spirited and ignorant attacks aren't bothering him.

Danni,

I LOVE the fact that our president is not only presentable, but is admired.

I really do.

Having said that, at some point he's going to have to hold a few press conferences, sans the teleprompter. At that point he's going to have to perform.

Thus far, the little he's done in this regard makes Sarah Palin blush by comparison. Hopefully, he is how he sold himslef. Ultimately, time will tell.

Nice to see he had time yesterday to appear on ESPN and fill out a NCAA bracket. I'll bet pciking those 2 upsets was hard werk.

"Having said that, at some point he's going to have to hold a few press conferences, sans the teleprompter."

I watched him last night in a town hall meeting in California....no teleprompter...spoke at length on the economic crisis....demonstrated a very thorough understanding and committment....where were you??

Maybe Jay can get to the bottom of this revelation...

March 19 (Bloomberg) -- Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd said the Obama administration asked him to insert a provision in last month's $787 billion economic- stimulus legislation that had the effect of authorizing American International Group Inc.'s bonuses.

He danced a little on Ellen's show.
Do you think he might Tap Dance for Leno?

well, until he does the jerry springer show, i'll have absotively no respect for him!

Predictably the Obama haters can't stand the fact that the President is popular

He's been tap dancing since Wednesday morning.

i think he'll soft shoe on the leno show.

"I hate Rush, but right now Rush's audience's only impression of Obama is how Rush painted him. To appear on the show would allow him to define himself"

It would go a long way to show he really is interested in presenting his side to the people that his minions continually tell to "fuck off" but for real, Rush would eat him alive & he knows it. And in the minions' defense, if my side had won I'd tell you to fuck off too.

"Just like Clintoon...has to get his fix of adoring lib pop culture airhead whackos..."

Absolutely & it has nothing to do with him being likeable & popular Danni. Maybe if Obama wasn't treating the Presidency of the United States as a fucking popularity contest & have some substance over style these same "attacks" wouldn't stick & make sense you think? If the shoe fits, wear it!

I WANT THIS TAX MONEY USED TO MAKE THIS CHARM OFFENSIVE VISIT PUT BACK INTO THE COFFERS.

He also said Tuesday he had no idea that AIG was going to be paid their retention bonus. I think you need a better source.

The NBC studios are literally a 10 minute drive from my house. I'd thought about driving over there today to check out all the hoopla but figured with all the security and traffic I probably wouldn't get anywhere near close enough to catch a view of of him. I'll watch him tonight.

I've been to see Leno's show twice over at NBC. Leno always tapes his show before a live audience around 3 p.m. the same day of his televised show at night, so Obama's interview with Leno is likely being taped live right now

Maybe if he would have gone on CNBC rather than the Tonight Show, he could have said the economy was strong, the country actually had a huge surplus, and everything looks good for the foreseeable future? Then the CNBC analysts could nod their heads in agreement and talk about how great Obama is. It worked for various Wall Street execs.

WASHINGTON POST: How the Fed failed to tell Obama about bonuses

Federal Reserve officials knew for months about bonuses at American International Group but failed to tell the Obama administration, according to government and company officials, exposing problems in a relationship that is vital to addressing the financial crisis.

Exactly. Good point. And Roosevelt's fireside chats were a stupid idea! Presidents should never use a medium other than daytime press conferences to talk about incredibly important issues affecting American citizens. Out of the gene pool with you...

Smart move by Obama. Leno won't press him hard and he'll get an audience of millions. I find it hard to believe that no sitting president has ever been on a late-night talk show before.

I would've preferred him to go on Letterman, though. Leno's dull as dishwater.

what you are leaving out is that obama signed on to all of this...and he DIDNT KNOW WHAT WAS IN Something that he signs??????

Though I'm glad there is a focus on the egregious compensation of corporate management who run their companies into the ground and yet are rewarded anyway, the real focus should be on ensuring corporations return to pragmatic business practices and manufacturing rather than shuffling paper for profits.

These bonuses are .0001% (1/10,000th of a percent) of the total we've had to shell out to prevent the financial sector from going over the cliff.

Still, they're good examples of practices that benefit only a few to the detriment of citizens and shareholders (the owners) alike.

you are right of course but what is really pissing me off is the rampant hypocrisy of these guys up there attacking people like the guy yesterday and all of the "SECRET" things going on in dc with the dems.......

and gaithner and even obama telling us they didnt know...I just dont believe them and the money obama got from aig doesnt help me believe him either...

RIGHT ABOUT how small this amount really is...

just imagine how small this is compared to the DEFICIT that obama has put upon us in the next years or so...

Corporations have become way too short sighted.

When upper management is more concerned about the stock price so they can cash in their options, they lose focus on running the businesses with a long view of growing the companies and treating their shareholders with the respect they deserve as owners.

AFLAK

You're babbling again. How quickly you forget that this problem came to light and the money allocated last September.

You're always willing to overlook the $5.5 TRILLION dollars Bush (your hero) added in doubling the national debt. He broke all records. What did we get for it?

The bailouts at least provide a chance at recoupment. We recouped the S & L and Chrysler bailouts with a profit. Stimulus is already rebuilding roads and infrastructure. There was a story last night about a town near here that already has increased construction crews improving their sewer system and renovating the downtown square.

Bush's $5.5 Trillion went up on smoke.

I would've preferred him to go on Letterman, though. Leno's dull as dishwater.

There's two Kenny Rogers "Roasters" in town but I've never been to the one on Alameda Ave. (couple blocks from NBC studios), only to the Kenny Rogers Roaster on San Fernando Road (right across from the supermarket I got to all the time). When I'd gone to Leno's show at NBC both times we ate at the Acapulco Restaurant (a Mexican food chain) directly across the street from the studio. Pretty good food, nice bar and decor.

Would someone tell this guy he won!

He doesn't need to downgrade the office of POTUS while in office.

Bush went on them to try and pass Social Security reform. What's he doing?

Same thing FDR did during the Great Depression -- leading the country through economic hard times.

I love all of this criticism about President Obama getting out before the public to persuade them. After eight years of the Decider thinking he didn't ever need the public's consent, you all have forgotten what the president is supposed to do.

Is Obama getting public consent? I don't he has had any public consent on anything he signed. He has railroaded his bills through without anyone getting much of a chance to even read then. Just look at the AIG fiasco if you are in any doubt. Obama is doing nothing more than to drum up support after the fact. He forced the taxpayers to buy something that most people did not want and now he is going around telling you that you need to like it. That is not what a president is supposed to do.

Ummm -the AIG fiasco started B4 the new guy...remember "too big to fail"?

This stunt makes the Big 3 flying into DC for
hearings look like total hypocrisy

Totally pointless, expensive trip; self-gratifying unpresidential pop star wannabe who mouthed slick weak, unconvincing BS mantra. Used car salesman.

He did two townhall meetings in CA. CA is being hit really hard right now. He went to the people and appeared on Leno. Arnold was even present at the townhalls - which kicked ass compared to Bush's. He actually answered some pretty tough questions from some frustrated people.

BTW, Leno was better use of the President's time than the "Deal or No Deal" Bush cameo.

It'd be stupid for a President not to take advantage of the available media, bypass Congress and what passes for "Press" these days.

Wow.... a Biden level gaffe from Obama on Leno.

He said his bowling game was like the Special Olympics. I guess he uses that teleprompter for a reason.

"It was like the Special Olympics or something,"-

Wow! Impeach the bastard!

Everyone says something dumb occasionally, even a great GOP asskicker like Obama.

As a matter of fact, that may be what he was thinking about....

Corky, I'm sure Rahm will be taking him to the woodshed. That's good enough for me.

Oh for pity sakes...this is HUGE !

NOT!

The "Special Olympics" comment was wrong, but at least he called the Special Olympics BEFORE THE SHOW AIRED, said he was deeply sorry, and then invited athletes from the Special Olympics to the White House. Imagine, saying sorry before the public even knew about the screw up!

Even a retard like BL2 would know enough to do that. Are you seriously trying to give him credit for that?

I am too lazy to read the up the thread....this will be even better the second time.

UPDATE: It got worse than the intial reports. Much worse.

I just watched the Central broadcast and Leno asked him about the presidential dog (official transcript):

Q Wow. And it's, what, a Portuguese water head? (Laughter.) What is it, what kind of dog is it?

THE PRESIDENT: It's not that. (Laughter.)

Q It's not that.

THE PRESIDENT: It's not a "water head." (Laughter.)

Q Whatever they are, I don't know what they are.

THE PRESIDENT: That sounds like a scary dog. (Laughter.) Sort of dripping around the house. (Laughter.)

Partial credit since most politicians and public figures tend to wait for the public to learn about something and be outraged before trying to make things right.

Kerrin,
Keep up with your own link. The link says: However, I retract my previous "dripping vs. tripping" observation. Watching again this morning it now indeed sounded like "dripping."

"It was like the Special Olympics or something,"-

Rahm released a statement saying that that was a preplanned line, but it was supposed to refer to the McCain/Palin campaign.

That's BS. I know hardcore Obamanites who are losing that glazed look they've had for the last year. I'm really starting to enjoy hearing from them that it turns out I may have been right. I suppose I'd enjoy it more if they price weren't so high. Trust me, I'd rather be wrong. It's like 1/2 the country got roaring drunk on stupid & ALL of us have to share the fucking hangover!

A President who cares so much about being liked is DANGEROUS!

It will take you much longer to come crashing down than even the hardest of the BO sycophants because of your R=bad, D=good position on everything.

I'm just thankful that he's not drumming up false intellegence to start wars, or spending all his time on vacation, or having his gay lover frequently spending the night in the white house.

Is this all you repubs have? Jay Leno and a teleprompter? If this is all you got on the guy, I'd say President Obama has a very bright future ahead of him. Teleprompter - Oh My!!
But please keep it up. It's fun to read this crap and know you're all pissing your pants!! LOL

GOP - RIP 2008!!!

Pathetic.

Goddammit Obama, wtf? Making fun of those who can't help themselves? I stopped calling people "retard" back in 6th grade. To me, Obama sounds like a 6th grader, making a joke about the handicapped. Maybe the righties on here are right: B.O. is like Bush 3, at least, in this regard.

#120

All presidents and politicians seem to care about being liked, which makes them all dangerous? I guess you are spot on. I do like Feingold in Wisconsin, though. He doesn't seem to try to pander, only guy to vote against the Patriot Act, visits every county in WI at least once every year, and he's got a nice haircut.

Obama appeared on the Tonight Show...and laid an egg.

Elcid...what do you expect? If you want to hear from people like you, there's townhall.com, michellemalkin.com, and anncoulter.com.

All presidents and politicians seem to care about being liked, which makes them all dangerous? I guess you are spot on

Sadly I'd say so. I think they're all dangerous, at least all the ones we seem to have now. Every time I think I find one I can respect they let me down.

Obama has a celebrity mentality that eclipses even Bill Clinton.

I was a dumb thing to say, adn he knows it. Funny, though, is the hypocrisy of those hear who simultaneously criticize while using the word "retard".

Another non-issue, like most repub BS these days. It'll be forgotten as the markets continue to improve, jobless claims continue to fall, banks continue to report profits, housing starts continue to increase, children enjoy their health care, researchers do unbiased research, etc.

Obama will even probably bowl a few frames in between accomplishments.

Everytime that moron Obama goes off "the teleprompter" he sounds like he should be in the Special Olympics or something.

"In turbulent times, it's good to know some things never change. After a week in which President Obama thanked himself for inviting him to the White House, compared AIG executives to suicide bombers, and did the first Presidential retard joke on national TV, I was impressed to find that Slate is bravely keeping up its Bushism Of The Day feature.

Four more years!"
