After three decades of debate, Congress appears poised to pass legislation that would give the District of Columbia full voting rights in the House of Representatives. The legislation would permanently increase House membership to 437 from 435; the Democratic-dominated District would pick up the first seat and the second would go to reliably Republican Utah, the fastest growing state since the 2000 census.

oh doody!

Section 2
The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature.

No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.

It isn't theirs to give. If they make DC a state then they can.

It would appear this Congress is totally ignoring the Constitution.

With the president long on board and the House and Senate geared up to provide him with a bill to sign, we see a light at the end of a very long tunnel for voting rights for D.C. residents," says Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District's nonvoting delegate to the House.

PS Marion Berry deserves the seat.

The spooks get more votes.

"The spooks get more votes."

A very succinct sumary of Republican objections.

If DC gets a vote, then Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam all should as well. Also perhaps American Samoa. I am not sure that their taxation and citizen statuses are, but I know a lot of folks from those other places serve in the military and they have National Guard contingents and reservists from there are well.

Doesn't this require a constitutional amendment? It woul--oh, wait a minute. This is all part of the "Hope and change" we kept hearing about: if you're a Democrat, and we control the branches, we can do whatever the hell we want. I see.

Well, keep selling!

Gets us closer to 0's 57 States dont it?

Read the article, folks. Some experts -- including Ken Starr of all people -- believe Congress has the power to do this.

I am not opposed to them getting a vote, but if it takes an amendment then they need to go that route.

RCade - you are assuming "people" like Ron Karate can even read, and people like RightIs care about detail.

you are assuming "people" like Ron Karate can even read,

I read your post. I wrote a post.

ass/u/me

Don't ever assume. That way, you don't make an ass out of you or me.

How's Roy doing Monty?

"Don't ever assume. That way, you don't make an ass out of you or me."

It is an assumption. That way they only make an ass out of u and mption. Nothing makes an ass out of me! =D

Would this particular Congress be "poised" to allow D.C. to have 2 House seats if D.C. was overwhelmingly conservative, instead of liberal?

If your answer is "no," then perhaps the motives for this legislation should be examined.

Joe You Ignorant Slut!!!

Read the fucking summary at the top of the page, since you are too stupid to click on the link and read the actual article. UTAH (a total Rtard state) gets ONE and DC gets ONE.

You may resume licking your balls now, Joe.

I read the first three paragraphs of the actual article, and they only mentioned D.C. and an increase of 2 seats in the House.

My bad, you prick.

Oh good! I hear Marion Barry has been surfing Monster.com.

The spooks get more votes.

Those is axes peeps.

this is fair but dc should not be a state---it is the federal disrict -it was designed to be the home of the national govt.-it recieves more tax money from govt. than any other area-why would reps vote
to give an area that will remain solidly dem for the forseeable future two senate seats and a governor
jasman

State, state, state, the Constitution keeps mentioning the word "state". What is the definition of a "state"?

Screw the Constitution when there are Democrat votes to be had.

Just exactly what part of my number 2 post quoting the constitution don't they want to read? It very clearly says "state". Oh, I forgot. The constitution is just a piece of paper. Wasn't that what you dems said about Bush?

It would appear this Congress is totally ignoring the Constitution.

The Constitution was designed for change. I guess you ignored that simple fact. It is possible to give these people Statehood, and still conform to the Constitution as written. I doubt the Founding Fathers wanted half a million people to have no representation.

Wasn't that what you dems said about Bush?

No wonder you are such an idiot--you can't read. Bus said the Constitution was just another Goddamned piece of paper. Libs just repeated what he said.

Screw the Constitution when there are Democrat votes to be had.

Don't you mean American? Shouldn't your sentence read--Screw the Constitution when there are AMERICAN votes to be had.

Republicans are known to want to restrict voting rights. That is one of the aspects of thir Party Line. It is one of the thngs that maes them unAmerican. Just like you. Go ahead--wave the flag while you bad-mouth Americans.

Shouldn't all Americans be able to vote for their representation in congress? The Constitution is designed for change. Goosesteppers like yourself have a problem with that. That's why you should have your own country. You don't appreciate, or deserve this one.

The whole DC debacle is really kind of an oversight in the constitution. Everyone is supposed to be represented. Territories aren't, but they are just US controlled areas, and they can apply for statehood. DC is a special case, even in the constitution. DC is intentionally not a state, so that no one state can have the capital city. In that case, making DC a state defeats the entire purpose of it existing an outside of any state.

One idea I had was that DC get a rep, and then the people in the part of DC that was part of Virginia should vote in the Virginia senate election, and the people in the part of DC that was part of MD, should vote in their senate elections. That seems problematic as well, but it's just an idea.

As for it being constitutional or not, I would say, no without an amendment. If it were allowable, congress could just give every state an extra senator. It doesn't SAY we can't have those. It just says each state gets two. Even if it vaguely says "ONLY" two, it also says that representatives must be from the STATE they represent.

RACIST, an RACISM is the only reason that Washington D.C. has no present Congressional represantation. There are more people in D.C. than the state of Alaska, yet because of the number of BLACKS in D.C. the Republicans in Congress will never vote for Statehood or representation......Just because the Republicans put away thier sheets, they are the party of the KKK, make no mistake, just gone underground.....

Bus said the Constitution was just another Goddamned piece of paper.

#26 | Posted by Buffalo_Bob

I guess you can direct me to a place that gives that quote in it's full context. Not just some 3rd party hearsay.

The constitution can be changed by amendment, not legslation. DC was ment to be the seat of government, not a place of residence. If they want representation, they need to either move to a state or become a state.

If DC was a Republican stronghold this would not even be mentioned.

A convicted crackhead as a U.S. Congressman, Only in America.

Why do you think Dems want a seat in DC, it has nothing to do with "the people" it's a vote for them, same with "Amnesty" get the Latinos addicted to entitlements and just like Blacks, they are yours for eternity. Reagan said "nothing comes closer to eternal life than a governement program"..Why do you think Dems believe in Legalizing pot, Taking Guns and entitlements.

"An unarmed, sedated and dependent society is easier to control". Good God, where are the cesession movements

"Where are the secession movements...?"

Alive and well and populated by assholes to a man.

Good God, where are the cesession moveme

Just follow Todd Palin and his snow machine.

Considering that DC gets 3 times more federal money that any state, I feel they should just shut up and be happy with what they get

*scroll to the bottom*

"Then make you watch him fuck your wife..."

I think we're getting close to some deeply buried but very powerful psychological dynamic here. So, you like Todd Palin just an awful lot, do you...?

I do, And it would be funny to watch him humiliate a couple of you metrosexual pedophiles on here, Maybe I would join him..

You can hear the jealousy in your tones and how quickly you bring him into a thread, You fear real men, you know he and I are the ones who took your lunch money, who knocked your books out of your hands, who tormented you in the hallways and it has effected you tragically to hate all real men..And the women you are with, there is no doubt, going to the same college as you milktoast professional protestors have never experienced a real man, so that part scares you also, the fact that one of us might come along and bang the hell out of her and leave her screaming for more..And leaving you and your male "friends" wondering if homosexuality is really that bad

PS..By the way, there is no need to spell out the offensive words, this place is crude enough

I'd like to see Todd Palin Kick your A$$, then make you watch him F*** your wife (which she would enjoy)...D***h***

Why would anyone want to fuck a retard-siring secessionist ?

"...know he and I are the ones who took your lunch money, who knocked your books out of your hands, who tormented you in the hallways ..."

Sounds like hillbilly's life's zenith was high school. Apparently, it has been all downhill since.

"...to the same college as you milktoast professional protestors..."

"I think the word you're seeking is 'milquetoast'."

Sincerely, the guy you took lunch money from, Bill Gates

Hans

PS..By the way, there is no need to spell out the offensive words, this place is crude enough

...because, if it's not spelled out, that somehow makes the thought itself less "offensive" or "crude"?

Interesting.

he and I are the ones who took your lunch money, who knocked your books out of your hands, who tormented you in the hallways and it has effected you tragically to hate all real men

Haven't seen him since I mauled his neck. Are you still baking him muffins?

Glad to see it is hans' turn as grammar nazi today.

Too bad hans is wrong (again). Milk toast is a name given to a timid person. HT Webster created a timid character in the comic strip "The Timid Soul" who he named Mr. Caspar Milquetoast, a French corruption of the term 'milk toast'.

So Hillbillyjihad had the correct term all along, but hans who as usual was caught up in his 'gotcha' schtick (it's all he does, after all, so you think he'd be better at it) erroneously called him out on it.

milk-toast
/ˈmɪlkˌtoʊst/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [milk-tohst] Show IPA
adjective 1. easily dominated; extremely mild; ineffectual; namby-pamby; wishy-washy

"This place is crude enough...."

Largely, HILLBILLY, because you be one vulgar mother-fucker.

"Milk toast..."

Unfortunately, milktoast isn't.

Hans

Nice try, hans. Well, not really, but your ego always needs a boost. From my link upthread:

It is near the beginning of his stay at the World that he added The Timid Soul to the mix, and with it, its wimpy star. The name [Milquetoast] is clearly derived from the word "milktoast"...

You have yourself convinced you are right (of course -- you always do) so maybe on your weekly meeting of the small minds* this week you can convince your three or four "radio" listeners, too. LOL Fact is, the term 'milk toast' (or milktoast) has been around long before Webster created Caspar Milquetoast.

I'll let you have your last word since you are clearly in error, and your fragile self esteem is in tatters as it is. Go for it dude. LOL

I see Zed (realizing that the truth is an ugly thing) knowing that his Miltoastyness ( I made that one up) is truly his life story now resorts to simple street insults..Just remember, keep your wife home or I'll be behind her pulling her hair, her screamin my name. And I will force her to proclaim Todd Palin as her fantasy man..Whilst you watch of course!!!

Of course you did.

Hans

"I'll be behind her pulling her hair..."

Ahem. Hate to say this to you, good buddy, but hair-pulling really has little to do with what I THINK I understand your sexual fantasy is.

Start with obtaining a penis. When you have axquired that, figure out how to inflate same. We''l teach the difference between girls and boys later, provided you get that far.

Read the article, folks. Some experts -- including Ken Starr of all people -- believe Congress has the power to do this.

I don't really care what experts say. I can read the constitution for myself. Washington, DC is not a state. It does not have any representation.

If Congress would like to amend the constitution, and the required number of states ratify the amendment, then by all means.

If Congress does not amend the constitution and they hand Representation to the DISTRICT of Columbia, then they have broken the law.

The Constitution was designed for change. I guess you ignored that simple fact. It is possible to give these people Statehood, and still conform to the Constitution as written. I doubt the Founding Fathers wanted half a million people to have no representation.

But they're not changing the constitution, Bob. If you're going to admonish folks for not reading the article, make sure you have read it yourself.

It is a Bill, not an Amendment. Bills do not change the Constitution.

If I recall Correctly the DISTRICT of Columbia was made so that it was a Nuetral Territory/nuetral playing field. IE That it didn't reside in a State therefore noone could declare favouratism.IF The DISTRICT of Columbia is allowed to have representation then someone will scream the Representatives of the DISTRICT of Columbia are being shown favouratism.

Now that has to be one of the least informed comments I have read on this forum.

The District has been in existance for over 200 years. The demographics have been all over the map.
The legislature has had numerous opportunities to allow representation and they have not.

I suspect that there is a constitutional issue involved.

That having been said, It is time that we corrected this oversight and arrange for the residents of DC to have their rights under the "Spirit" of our Constitution.
If that requires a Constitutional Amendment then let's get to it.

Long over due. And since when are the repugs so concerned with following the letter of the Constitution? Remember how willing they were to trash our privacy rights in the name of fighting so called terrorism?

No, for years they have blocked this for a single reason: as another ploy at trying to protect their ever dwindling voting numbers as their party shrinks to one of southern white males in 5 or 6 states. What do they expect when their only answer to our precipitous decline under their leadership is cutting taxes and shrinking government? And having "Macaca" give the rebuttal speech or putting their token black at the head of the RNC doesn't fool anyone.

How sweet and long overdue it is seeing "the cows come home" for a party that sold its soul to ex-slave traders and mega-corporations.

Why would we ever listen to these people again?

"That's why you should have your own country. You don't appreciate, or deserve this one."

Jesus. Here we go again on this.

"RACIST, an RACISM is the only reason that Washington D.C. has no present Congressional represantation. And here we go again on the race card.

We could post this shit for you it's so predictable. You know what? If GOING TO work in Washington turns elected officials into fucking morons, right & left, then COMING FROM Washington puts you ahead of the game I'd say in stupidity. Just what America needs, more Washington ideas. Yeah!

well well

so all those years of reading this liberal gibberish here...
something about the "god damned piece of paper"
was actually what dems have thought about it all this time

whowouldathunkit????

TURd, Bring on the amendment to the consitution, or make it a state. I suspect that can't happen. Like I said before, if they want to be represented, they can move to a STATE!!!!

so lets do a summary

census will be in the hands of two ex chicago politicians.

and now people who dont live in one of these united states will be giving more representation than what it sometimes feels like we get..

and liberal fascim isnt on its way????

okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

"Senate to give DC house seat"

This is payback by the Dems to the black collision.

...well--more trampling of the Constitution!

This is payback by the Dems to the black collision.
