Likening California's budget troubles to an earthquake, Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Sunday defended his decision to raise taxes and said his party's leaders in Washington should be "team players" with President Barack Obama. "They should make an effort to work together and to find what is best for the people, because by derailing everything, it's not going to help anybody, and it creates instability and insecurity," Schwarzenegger said on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

I'm so glad to have a governor who puts his state above his party and it's failed economic policies.

Good thing those days are behind us, eh?

Dow down 250. Keep selling.

Imagine, someone from the Kennedy clan scolding a republican.

So, you guys still want that Constitutional Amendment so Saint Arnold the Right can run for President?

Why you clowns keep pinning your hopes on Hollywierd guys is beyond me......

Ahnold! and Charlie Crist of Florida are two big state Govs who are willing to be more pragmatic ands less ideological with their state budgets, versus the mainly southern conservative GOP Govs who are more concerned about holding onto their jobs in their conservative states than they are about appealing to independents to broaden the Party.

The southern Govs want to fight Obama all the way, and to hell with the consequences for their country.

More pragmatic and less ideological: willing to raise taxes on neighboring states' children and grandchildren, so that you don't have to make the tough choices the people of your state hired you to make.

If you cannot tell the difference between CA or FL and Mississippi as far as economies go, and maybe even note a trend, I'm not sure that I can help you.

I will, however, see if I can get you the Braille Edition of the book.

Or, have someone read this to you:

Arnold sold us down the river.

rev 18:4 - "And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues."

Yes, nanc, they were talking about you.

If you cannot tell the difference between CA or FL and Mississippi as far as economies go, and maybe even note a trend, I'm not sure that I can help you.
* * * *

The trend is that Florida and California are on the verge of bankruptcy, because they don't want to confront what everyone knows the problems are--illegal immigration that consumes billions of dollars annually, high spending, and collapsing real estate prices. And they're asking Mississippi to pay for it.

Republicans should ask themselves if they think Hoover could have been elected in 1936. Their party is behaving as if they think he could have been.

"The trend is that Florida and California are on the verge of bankruptcy, because they don't want to confront what everyone knows the problems are--illegal immigration that consumes billions of dollars annually, high spending, and collapsing real estate prices. And they're asking Mississippi to pay for it.".....because it is a federal problem, as it should be. Governors have no authority to deal with immigration so they also should not have to foot the bill when the federal government refuses to do its job.
This controversy dates all the way back to Jimmy Carter's refusal to reimburse Florida for the expenses incurred by the state during and after the Mariel Boat Lift.

-FL and California are on the verge of bankruptcy, because they don't want to confront what everyone knows the problems are--illegal immigration

And here the rest of us thought that immigration was a Federal issue. Silly us.

Nanc's hearing voices? Uh-oh...

It is. But there's no federal law that says they're entitled to all the benefits that California bestows on them.

I note, too, you didn't address the other two legs of the stool: falling real estate prices from hyped-up speculator levels, and overspending like the good times will never, ever end.

Hopefully Mississippi has enough money to bail CA and FL out of their stupid decisions. Or, that the Chinese do. That's it! Let's get Hillary on a plane to Shanghai, and beg them to lend us a couple more trillion!

Arnold has no principles so he does not respect those who do have them. Every republican I know (myself included) wishes California could have had Democrat Governor Grey Davis back instead of Arnold. Arnold is a gutless political coward with the brain the size of this pea-sized steriod shrunken nuts.

I actually agree with you on this one. Is it a blue moon tonight?

Arnold to GOP. Grow up.

GOP to Arnold: RINO's Need Not Apply

Arnold sold us out.

When was it that congress decided they knew better that their state Governors what the states needed? This thing DIRECTS most of the money to key projects, gives the governors very little leaway to move things around for better distribution and 'bang for the buck' and contaiins so many key words and phrases as to be useless.

Shwarzenegger, the Republ-ocrat, just needs money! He'll prostitute the entire state to get it! Must be nice the Pimp-In-Chief of the State of Californey, they're thinking of changing the seal on their flag from a Golden Bear to a Golden Bucket, and the LOGO to 'Give me Your Alms, and I'll Give You the Bill'!

"Arnold sold us out..."

To listen to you guys tell it, people take turns selling you out.

Why don't you tell the Libertarians you don't want their votes again? I loved that one.

Republicans want Gray Davis back? Was it really that long ago that you guys described the man as the person you'd most like to see dogs lick the blood up from if crushed under the wheels of a semi?

Just vote Democratic next time. Jeez.

"To listen to you guys tell it, people take turns selling you out."

The list grows longer. George Bush, conservative hero, now a socialist. The Governator, once talked up by the GOP as a case for amending the constitutional requirements for President, now a backstabber and socialist.

Arnold has now become the apple of ole teds eye he may now have a place on teds yacht.

From the beginning anyone paying attention has realized that Arnold is a pragmatic moderate. On many issues, his proclivities are too conservative for my tastes, but in a crunch he will cut deals as necessary. Although many of you seem to view this pragmatism as a form of betrayal, I consider it a mature and responsible means of governing.
As I have stated on previous posts, the closest I ever came to voting for a GOP candidate was when Arnold ran for reelection a few years back. (I couldn't bring myself to do it however, and didn't vote for anyone in that race.)

"Many of you seem to view pragmatism as a form of betrayal...."

Boy, that's the truth. Republicans have already spent so much energy villifying Obama in four weeks ANY compromise they MIGHT want to strike with him in future will be viewed by their base as capitulation.

Zed
I see the Republicans as letting Obama hang himself with his own rope. Even the markets go into a shudder every time he or one of his administration open their mouths.

"I see the Republicans as letting Obama hang himself with his own rope...."

I don't see them as being nearly that clever. We debate a lot here about what's rational and what's not. All I see Republicans doing is riding the intertia of their own mindless hatefulness, which has been years now building steam.

Zed - You are correct there. Republicans (and Democrats) get no respect from me. They're all snakes. Let me phrase it this way: they are going for Obama's jugular. This is the traditional role for the party out of power.

But I can tell you too that half of the stimulus bill is scheduled to go into effect next year in time for election. It's almost all Democrat pork. I have to agree with Republican cynicism.

GOP to Arnold: RINO's Need Not Apply

Translation-we're self-destructing just fine on our own, thnk you very much.

And RIR, so RINO McToast wasn't the GOpper candidate last November? Who was?

Arnold can take all the Fed money he can get his hands on and California will still be headed for BK. They can't/wont fix what is broke, so they raise the sales tax, they raise the gas tax and double DMV fees which is why Gray Davis was tossed and Arnold was seated.

Here's one example of the problem; I have a friend that is a prison guard here in Calif. He will retire at 52, three years from now, he makes $120,000 per year and claims he will get 85% of his pay for life. California is like General Motors, more people on pensions than they have actually working, I read where you have 3 retired for every one who is working. I don't have the answer but throwing good money down a pit wont solve the problem.

California spends 9B+ per year on illegals. Illegals pay in-state rates for college, out of state citizens pay up to 20 times as much as California residents.

What the fuck is wrong with this picture????

Last week I went to a local homeowners meeting and a man who claims to have owned his house since 1960 needed a translator. WHAT THE FUCK.... Why doesn't he speak english after over 50 years in this country??????

Welcome to California.....

I wonder how much the tranlator cost? Our County supervisor made sure a translator was there at County expense.

I know a retired county eployee who is receiving 110% of his pay in retirement. I know another retired county employee who makes 10K a month in retirement. GO figure.

I'm done ranting, I promise.

"What the fuck is wrong with this picture????"

Posted by chickenrancher < -- Shhh... don't let him know. Hans

Hans,

Why should your children pay more to attend a California University (assuming you do not live here) and illegals pay the same as legal California residents?

Or do you agree with my point?

Don't be afraid to agree with me, I agree with Danni at times.

"Why should your children pay more to attend a California University (assuming you do not live here) and illegals pay the same as legal California residents?"

Perhaps you need to elect those who might change that.

"Or do you agree with my point?"

Hardly.

Hans

"Don't be afraid to agree with me, I agree with Danni at times."

You're either with us or against us.

Hans

Oh come on. My GF is a big lib, and we agree on lots of issues. Why can't we?

CR : Why can't you and Hans agree?

My suspicion is that your GF has something Hans doesn't. And even if Hans had it, you probably wouldn't want to use his. And if you had one (which I assume you don't) Hans almost certainly would never wish to use yours. And for that matter, probably the only reason you ever do agree with your GF is because she does have it and let's you use it. And if the time ever comes where hers is no longer usable, you will stop agreeing with her altogether.

Got it?

"Oh come on. My GF is a big lib, and we agree on lots of issues. Why can't we?"

We have.

Hans

Postscript - ROTFLMAO!

I am going to assume you have never actually been with a woman, according to your suspicions. It does not work that way.

Does it work that way in the gay community?

Hans, I reached out with an olive branch, you discarded it. OK.

"Hans, I reached out with an olive branch, you discarded it. OK."

Didn't you see my link?

Hans

It is a start.

Life is full of compromise.

Back to my point about college, what do you think?

What the fuck is wrong with this picture????

Nothing that borrowing the difference from the Chinese, and passing the costs along to people in Nebraska and Mississippi, won't fix. Got that, amigo?

"Back to my point about college, what do you think?"

It is the same here in Florida: If you're a Florida resident you pay "in-state" tuition.

As to what qualifies a "resident," well, that's where I think your problem rests.

And I understand it, but am not necessarily sympathetic towards it. Because from a purely political power position, the party which captures the Hispanic vote wins elections in the future.

That is the realpolitik view of Hispanic immigration, legal and illegal.

And like it or not.

Hans

This is not about political power, it is about what is right.

Resident is living legally in California for 6 months, unless you are illegal, unless you want to go to college.

Nevermind, I see where you are comming from. I tried.

Hispanics in my area 50+ y/o vote conservative because they know what it is like to work hard for what you have. ,50 vote dem because they see what the gov will GIVE them.

How fucking pathetic.

Under 50

And you know this HOW? You polled them?? What bullshit!

A RINO scolding Republicans, that's news?

dennis prager on californistan's demise.

They will never pay Arnold any mind. To be truly part of the GOP inner circle you must be a closeted homosexual. Arnold is way too hetero.

Nothing that borrowing the difference from the Chinese, and passing the costs along to people in Nebraska and Mississippi, won't fix.

I think nebraska and Mississippi are welfare states, RIR.

Most red states are.
