Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Monday, February 09, 2009

President Obama appeared before a national audience Monday night to make the case for his economic stimulus plan, saying this is not your "run-of-the-mill recession." The president stressed the urgency of passing the roughly $838 billion measure, which his administration and Democratic leaders say will help pull the U.S. economy out of its current skid.

YAWN............

It's become obvious that Obama is more likely to answer questions like a lawyer than a president. For that reason, I won't be watching.

The Bully Pulpit in the hands of someone both competent and charismatic. No wonder Joe can't bare to watch.

I hope they cover important topics such as:
→ Michelle's wardrobe
→ The family dog
→ Being a parent in the White House
→ Obama's Hollywood entourage
→ The latest issue of SpiderMan

...and if they have time why he thinks borrow-and-spend is going to suddenly start working.

Obama is more likely to answer questions like a lawyer than a president.

Still miles ahead than Bush answering questions like a boozehound.
And Joe, you won't be listening because reality and competence make righties break out in a rash.

Just wish he wasn't pre-empting House.

I hope someone asks if Sen. Gregg will withdraw his name from consideration as Commerce Secretary given Obama's political grab to move the Census Bureau into the White House. Rahm Emanuel controling the "facts" about population to control redistricting. They are a tough group.

what? his new network isn't up and running?

And Joe, you won't be listening because reality and competence make righties break out in a rash.

Yeah. That sucks. Then again, you'll still see some pretty good acting. Hugh Laurie pretends to know a lot about medicine, and tonight Obama will pretend to know a lot about finance and economics.

I wonder if anyone will ask, what happened to the first $700 billion you voted for?

Will the shows be pushed back or will the nets return to the story "already in progress"? I mean, if I miss part of Chuck, my week will be fucking RUINED.

Yeah, wouldn't want him to lawyer his way through questions like Joe does on Drudge everyday.

By that logic, Joe shouldn't read his own posts.

Then again, you'll still see some pretty good acting.

As long as he doesn't show up in a flight suit and pretend to win wars. Or, as your idols, Mctoast and saint sarah did, that everything is great because the American worker is exercising regularly and eating healthy...

-the first $700 billion you voted for?

You must mean the Republican President's bail-out, eh?

You know that most of it hasn't yet been spent, and what has been spent was blocked by Repubes from being spent on foreclosures.

Wow. Are you stupid. Most of it has been spent, and there's plenty of money going to foreclosures. The problem is that housing prices are falling faster than new money can get to them.

Keep selling. Corkyites are still stupid, and they're kiting a lot of checks.

They do know all that Corky-they're just hoping no one ELSE does.

Stupid is as Stupid posts, Righty.

"Mr Geithner is unlikely to ask the US Congress for more money to fund the bail-out at this stage, given approximately half of the original $700bn bail-out funds remains,"

"Under the plan the government would provide the base capital for the so-called $500bn (338bn) "bad bank", which will purchase toxic assets from banks' balance sheets, with the bulk of the money coming from private firms.

Not only would such a move limit the amount the US government would need to spend on this measure, it would also mean that the majority of such assets remain in private hands, thereby reducing the problem of how the government would sell such assets back into the private sector when the time came.

Potential funders of such a scheme are likely to include constituents from the alternative asset industry, such as private equity firms and hedge funds. Many of these have set up distressed debt funds in recent months in response to the changes in their own industries, which have made previous efforts such as large scale buy-outs almost impossible.

If Mr Geithner can deliver such a model, and encourage banks to sell into a system which essentially sells it on to other institutions at knock-down prices, there is a chance that bank balance sheets will begin to be heal, allowing major institutions to start lending again."

www.telegraph.co.uk

And this:

"In addition to the "bad" or "aggregator" bank, the revised programme, whose "Troubled Assets Relief Programme" (TARP) name could yet be dropped, will include up to $100bn of spending to tackle rising house repossessions, expanding a Federal Reserve programme to extend loans to consumers and small businesses and offering loss guarantees to banks who prefer to keep toxic assets on their books."

Rethugs cared not a cent about foreclosures.

" A new bank bailout plan to be unveiled Tuesday by the Treasury Department is set to create incentives for private sector investment into troubled banks."

Oh sure after they screwed all investors in fannie and freddie, you know the 20 billion they raised in preferred stock, then defaulted on them in less then 10 months from date of issue? WHO is going to want to invest in ANY gov (semi)owned bank.

There's talk that the feds want to be first in line if a bank fails. In doing so they are saying screw you to all senior debt holders.

Geithner's plan is what? What he let happen under his watch at the NY fed speaks volumes...about his lack of a cohesive understanding of what's it's going to take....

Oh gee corky the dems are so in charge and have a thorough understanding of what's it's going to take.
NOT!!! Ask Paul Volcher, he has spoken positively about the 1st tarp deployment. Do you know more then him, or are you just uninformed???

Why don't you tell us about how smart Joe Biden was re-writing the bankruptcy laws while you're on your crusade?

I'll tune in.

Just to see how the questions are staged or not --and how much stuttering that one does.

There won't be much new substance as he has said all there is to say for the last 20 days.

Why isn't Obama focusing his energy on Washington? They're the ones that will pass it...not the public.

Bush did the same thing for Social Security.

Under the plan the government would provide the base capital for the so-called $500bn (338bn) "bad bank", which will purchase toxic assets from banks' balance sheets, with the bulk of the money coming from private firms.

Not only would such a move limit the amount the US government would need to spend on this measure, it would also mean that the majority of such assets remain in private hands, thereby reducing the problem of how the government would sell such assets back into the private sector when the time came.
* * * *

It won't work. Those bank assets are for sale now--they always are. If a private investor wanted to buy them, all they would have to do is show up with a check.
But the banks don't want to part with the assets at a price private equity is willing to pay. Duh. Otherwise, the transaction would have already happened.
So Tax-Dodgin' Treasury Tim will allow a put feature on the assets, which will be sold at a premium. If the assets perform, private equity can pocket the profits. If they don't, the taxpayer will make up the difference.
Heads I win, tails you lose. Timmy has gift-wrapped another early Christmas present, this time to the Blackstone Group and Fortress. Expect a rally for an hour or two, then another big selloff, post announcement. In fact, I'm going to save this post, so I can paste it, after it happens.

The rtard skirming is delicious. I think the lot of you pant pissing "i created this mess but offer no solution" putzes need to go and change your soiled panties. But Cheer up, you can probably find a republican that's perverted enough to buy them for you...

I offer a solution. Let it go. Let the bad banks go bankrupt. Let the housing market find a natural bottom, then it'll recover.

Bill Clinton inherited a recession too, and unemployment was about where it is now. He didn't show up and ask for over a trillion dollars in spendulus. It's stupid.

I think the lot of you pant pissing "i created this mess but offer no solution" putzes need to go and change your soiled panties.
* * * *

By the way, who's soiling panties? It's you libtards and Obama who are saying that it's a catastrophe--that if we don't go out and borrow over a trillion dollars from the Chinese to send to New York banks, that it'll be the end of America as we know it.

Hope! No fear!! Waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

How about some of the Obama that people saw back in June and July, and less of this fear-mongering "change the hope" guy filling up his cabinet with pardons-for-sale-Holder and Tax-Dodgin' Timmy?

Why isn't Obama focusing his energy on Washington? They're the ones that will pass it...not the public.

Of course...because The Pocket Economist would rather have the bankers get your money unabated, than have them declare bankruptcy and have their assets find their real worth. All to save jobs...of course!

Bill Clinton inherited a recession too, and unemployment was about where it is now. He didn't show up and ask for over a trillion dollars in spendulus. It's stupid.

Let me quote from Barrons'

Wea are in this mess largely because critical thought and moral judgement have been subordinated to the politicization of our economy, resulting in regulatory gaps and excessive controls of the wrong kind......The renewing and self-correcting nature of the private sector is largely lost in the public sector, where accountability is impaired by obfuscation of responsibility, and where special interests benefit even when the public good is ill-served.....

"And here's the other banker loving "man of the people" right on cue..."

Funny. Usually I'm called a marxist/socialist/communist. Now I'm a big fan of Wall Street.

DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS WORTHLESS STIMULUS, IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A PAYOFF TO THOSE FUCKS THAT SCAMMED THE ELECTION FOR HIM> The fucking liberals need the money to stay in power, don't let them have it, anyone can solve problems by throwing money at them, it is the true leaders who resolve problems democratically, without forcing us into slave4 labor to pay for the liberal deadbeats.

You're an idiot. And a losertarian. But I repeat myself.

I have yet to hear a reasonable explanation on how this bill is going to help the economy. I guess it's just to much to ask this very simple question.

He's running for a second term.

I guess so. If the situation is as dire as he makes it out to be, he should be working with those that will pass it and not try to drum up public support that means squat.

#43 | Posted by OohRah

I feel sick. I've been following what the Govenor of Wisconsin plans to do with his share of this pork. Our budget is shot to hell, and this does nothing to address it other than make it worse.

It will help my industry...healthcare IT. It think there's 80 billion set aside for that.

On what basis would you impeach President Obama? I'm pretty sure impeachment requires criminal action (at least that's why they tried Clinton for perjury). There were a great many people who wanted to impeach Bush, but guess what, you can't impeach someone based on dislike of _policy_ (or even politicization of whatever issue).

And again, lefties put him in office? What was the percentage of the vote? I think lots of conservatives (real conservatives, not neocons) voted for this guy.

Btw, I think this stimulus package is awful. I'm with those who say we need TWO packages--one for immediate rescue/stimulus, a second for long-term investment. It's not only President Obama who is moving too fast on this, but the _Congress_. Which, btw, could be why he's going on the teevee. If you believe Senator McCain, his and numerous lawmakers' offices have been FLOODED with calls, so apparently the people actually give a shit on this vote. Well, if you believe that. So if you really believe in democracy, which might be construed to mean that legislative leaders would act in accord with their constituents' wishes, perhaps the White House feels that it's time to take it to the people.

Or you can say it's all bullshit posturing, in which case, don't talk anymore about what the people want.

I think these assholes in Congress should sit down, shut up, and do something--or nothing--for the people. NOBODY knows what's gonna save our collective ass on this one; only history will answer that, right? Right? Isn't that what people say about wars? Why is this different? If there were a clear answer to make everyone prosperous, healthy, and smart, wouldn't we be doing it? Wouldn't we have done it decades ago?

It's going to help the Milwaukee Public school system. 15 fucking vacant school buildings and they are getting money to build new schools.

Interestingly, there are some states saying they don't want any money. Is that just politicking of another kind? (Can-do Americanism.) Check out Gov. Douglas of Vermont, though it was last week when he said that...

"15 fucking vacant school buildings and they are getting money to build new schools." Are the schools safe? Are they sufficient to meet state standards and the requirements of whatever accreditation organization holds power there? Are they wired for speed? I'm not saying it's okay to use this rescue/bailout/giveaway to pay for new schools; but I am suggesting that there's more to a decision to build new schools than whether the district has some vacant buildings. (And do towns or counties--regular voters--get to vote on construction decisions there in Milwaukee? They do in NH and VT, and probably in most states...)

If the situation is as dire as he makes it out to be, he should be working with those that will pass it and not try to drum up public support that means squat.

Obama did have the Repubs in for lunch and then that was the end of reaching across the aisle.

The bill has passed with the turncoats Snow Collins and Specter voting for it along with all the Dems and the two Independents.

The bill won't work and the spending won't get to the economy until 2011 2012 or after that.

Non jobs for Macy people or Caterpillar people or car jobs or anywhere except for the gov't to expand and the unions.

---
So can anyone find a final copy of the list of thievery?

Obama --the accidental POTUS.

It's only to get worse.

This stimulus package will put the final touches on the democrat plan to reduce our economy to rubble.

Thanks democrats!

pragmatist, the situation in Milwaukee is due to the drop in enrollment.

And why no money for Private schools if B.O. thinks education is so important? Enrollment is down for the Public schools because School choice enrollment is up. Oh, that's right. The private school teachers aren't part of the Teachers Union. Anyone who can't see what he's doing is blind.

"It's only to get worse.

Hahahaha. 4 loooooong years, Murphy. Enjoy!

Null could be living in the street in 4 years, but by God, his boy won!

How is he accidental? Looked to me like he was elected. Clearly. No mandate, but a clear win, both popular and electoral. Ah, reality.

Yes, I'm sure the democrats really want to destroy the economy. Uh huh, yep, sure. It's always the goal of those in power to make it so there's no state over which to have power or in which to hold power.

Thanks, Wisgod, that's happening all over--decline in enrollment. That wasn't clear from your first post; thanks for clarifying. So who's in control of that money? Rather than people blaming it on the president, maybe they should blame their legislative leaders who asked for the pork. I like bacon as much as the next guy, but yeesh. I'm all for public works (there's a town near me that needs a new middle school, for reasons of size, safety, and general age; I wonder if they'll see some cash on this one), but they should have purpose and value.

"but by God, his boy won!"

Not my boy, Wis, but highly preferable to the alternative.

Rather than people blaming it on the president, maybe they should blame their legislative leaders who asked for the pork.
Posted by pragmatist

Maybe the C.I.C should have the backbone to say no to the pork before he hands it to the States with no oversight. He's not getting off the hook that easy after running on a platform of Change.

It's going to help the Milwaukee Public school system. 15 fucking vacant school buildings and they are getting money to build new schools.

What condition are the buildings in? Doesn't take that long for those buildings to be past their prime.

I've already clarified. Enrollment is down in the Public Schools systems and the enrollment is up in School Choice. Choice schools in Wi. are those that are not part of any public school system. Religious, Private, etc.

The private school teachers aren't part of the Teachers Union. Anyone who can't see what he's doing is blind.

#57 | Posted by wisgod at 2009-02-09 06:50 PM | Reply |

True. But the reality is that public schools have to accept everyone and don't have tuition or other sources of revenue required to offer base access to education. Private schools on the other hand, accept only the best or richest and a have door tag big enough to supply them with a good operating budget. It's about education when the focus is basic access to those who could not attend otherwise.

Well I just reviewed the new proposed package

AMENDMENT NO. 570
Purpose: In the nature of a substitute.
IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES—111th Cong., 1st Sess.
H. R. 1

At least theres nothing in there about bees

thats something he won't be talking about

Not in Wi., panchovilla. We have a voucher program so the Public schools have to kick a percentage of thier budget to the Choice schools. It's not a 100% match based on the overhead of the Public school teachers pay and incentives, but a protion calculated on the Child's overhead. It's a great way to allow Parents a choice on where to send the kids without paying thru the nose. And there is nothing in this bill to further grow the program.

Obama can talk....as long as it is pre-arranged, he will talk for an hour and basically say nothing as he did when running for office. Uninformed people voted for this man with his promise for change without any idea what he had in mind. Now we have change, Doom and Gloom. Wake up America, Obama is on his way to our downfall.

Laughable...

In 2003 Faux news was telling me that I needed duck tape and sheet plastic to seal my home in the event of germ war fare.... According to Tom Ridge we were looking at another terrorist attack in the homeland.

The only fear Obama uses is the fact that Republicans will work with him or be left out in the cold... their choice.... we don't need 'em approach... and it drives ass clowns on that side crazy.

I guess 'bi-partisan' means handing a trillion dollar blank check to, Nancy 'the most partisan harpy on earth' Pelosi, and shutting out the republicans from the process.

Nice

"We can't afford the same politics of fear that invokes 9/11 as a way to scare up votes," said President Hussein, "But we can use the spectre of the Great Dperssion to scare up votes for my pork bill."

Whats your point?

"damn, I need a smoke", inside the mind of President Hussein right now.

Obama sounds sincere and he's right, he did inherit this entire economic mess.
This mess was created by the same clowns who want to spend 800 billion dollars to 'fix' it.

For 800 billion, 90% of American homeowners could have their mortgage paid. Think of how much money that would put into the economy.

But that would not produce the political pay back that this bill is about.

Whats your point?

lfthndthrds, the point is if you support this bill you are either 1) a political hack. 2) an uninformed idiot. 3) both a and b.

Is he standing in front of Biden?

He doesnt' understand the word spending and what that spending goes to is pork and political payback.

Spending for a dog park in Chula Vista does not create jobs--or is that the frisbee park?

He didn't write this bill and let Nancy and Harry write it with little input except some genralizations that they took to mean pork.

All in all he didnt say anything of interest--he made the same talking points he was saying for the last two weeks.

And his doom and gloom is bizarre and fear mongering.

And what is in the spending bill will keep jobs for those RV people in Elkhart, IN?

"So far he is out of his league. Poor organization, poor message managment, poor...everything. So far grade D. Below average but passing."

That's kind of amusing considering he whupped both Clintons and wiped his ass with the republican party by nearly a hundred electorial votes.

It's a fair bet that he is going to shoot the republicans like a bunch of fish in a barrel.

You know Joe Biden never asked any Paki's, he hates those '7/11 workers'...

lol, um, (pause), well that is (pause), um (pause, an um interesting (pause), um (pause) question.

I love PBHO's press conferences. notice how he's calling on people he can't see? 'um, mr./ms. reporter. where are you at?'

'create 4 million new jobs' (ooooops! he goofed once & left out 'save or').

dumbo is on a roll.

Obama's first few answers were about 7 minutes long each ... the same amount of time that Bush sat speechless in that elementary classroom when the towers were attacked on 9/11.

I think I like this better.

Dave--you are the only idiot here.

Can't you take it?

Folks here scream over Bush and nuclear--it's said that way in the south.

BUt do you care butt-breath?

So if Obama is the only one pronouncing Pokiston--we can bring it up as wrong.

I didn't realize Obama was "from" Pakistan.

Do you have a link?

Pock-ee-ston is the correct pronounciation of Pakistan.

Anyone who's ever traveled outside the U.S. would know that.

"Do you have a link?"

Link fer what, dumbass?

Arlen Spector is on Hannity. What a coward. Hope you lose your re-election, asshole.

Listen to the whiny drivel of the critics!! This is so PREDICATBLE of you dolts.

Did anyone on my side REALLY expect any objectivity on your part?

Let's see what the public reaction is.

Imagine tuning in here after all these weeks and finding nanc and muphy still spouting the same horshit they always did - the same people spoouting the same drivel. Just like the repubs they support.

It's a new day, folks, and honestly, at least for the time being, hardly anyone is taking you seriously.

Bravo! What a performance!

How refreshing is it to have a President that is actually knowledgeable, competent, and charismatic, eh?

Someone powerful enough to so master the Bully Pulpit, unafraid of either compromise or righteous ridicule of his opposition.

He showed 'em the hand and the fist.

That was a ten.

He'll be in the next county down here in south Florida tomorrow, where people have been camping in line for a couple of days already.

"So if Obama is the only one pronouncing Pokiston--we can bring it up as wrong."

Murphy, you blithering idiot, just because you're as worldly as a tree stump doesn't mean everyone else is. Sheesh. What a goofball.

Well, righties, bitch and make fun of Obama all you want to. Shows how small you are.

So anyone who has ever travled outside of the United States pronounces Pakistan, Pokistan?

So if a 18 year old college student went to Cancun for spring break, they would return pronouncing Pakistan as Pokistan?

Wow, brillant deduction Holmes.

Ah, that nasty Liberal, Arlen Spector :P

I liked it better when that smug self-righteous dried-up ol' cunt was in her bomb shelter waiting for Jaysus to come down from the clouds.

Fuck off, Cranc, you're the symbol of a failed system.

Oh, and PissoffConsin? Shut the mother fuck up, you out-of-touch douchebag.

I didn't vote for W, but I sure gave him every benefit of the doubt and hoped he'd do well. It wasn't until he started going off about war with Iraq he started losing me. His actions since then only reinforced a well earned disdain.

Right wingers are an immature lot. Not very good Americans either

It's a new day, folks, and honestly, at least for the time being, hardly anyone is taking you seriously.

Anyways, big wet turd laid by Hussein tonight, he would have been better off giving another highly partisan speech to a crowd of moronic bobble heads, like he last week.....

Cool. Gergen is channeling me.

I wish someone would have asked President Hussein what he thought about Pac Man being released by the Cowboys.

this was NOT a press conference this was a speech... all softball questions and Obama took 10 minutes to reply to every stupid question. His entire press conference was a 60 minute run on sentence

Gergen has it right.

I love it Dave, I am glad Hussein won, now I can stand back and take the pot shots ......

Welcome to the Retort, ya whiney-assed little twerp.

And Obama was disengenous when he blames tax cuts on the economy we have today.

It was the friggin greed and banks and brokers and the people on the mortgage industry that caused this problem.

Not the tax cuts.

So when Bush pronounces nuclear like the lower half of the US--that is fair game to belittle and shoot him if you could.

But when Obama pronounces Poskiston like they do in Poskiton--that's ok?

Absolute best ideas I've heard came from Lawrence Lindsey, of all people, on the Daily Show -- www.thedailyshow.com

Agreeing with a Bush appointee really hurt my brain until I remembered that the Bush folks ran him out of Washington. He pointed out that with the money being spent on the bailout, they could cut FICA taxes in 1/2 -- which helps BOTH workers and their employers. He also supported helping people pay down their debt (which helps the people while sending money back to the banks), and helping people refinance their mortgages.

And the Washington Compost wastes the time with a nonsensical question about A-roid.

Talk about softball.

That was softball.

That's a perfect analogy Corky, because the cow is completely irrelevant to putting out the fire. Paying off all mortgages is DOA.

Of course it is. If the Gov't helped everyone own their home, the banks wouldn't have property as assets on their balance sheets. Instead, they'd be begging people to borrow against their equity.

By owning homes, the people would spend money on other things - and that money wouldn't reach the banks directly.

By bailing banks, the banks keep the deeds and don't go under. Then, they take the homes away to re-sell (probably still over valued) to another and still they have the Gov't money that people actually believe will be paid back.

I assure you. In other countries, they pronounce words as if they were native words as well. When you go to another country, their pronunciation of English words might sound odd, but they also might be COREECT... for that country.

Just because we are America doesn't mean we're exempted from having preferred country pronunciations of foreign words. That's not a right citizens of other countries have but we don't. If I go to Pakistan and use a flat A sound, they might snigger and giggle; but they'll also know I'm from America. Conversely, if you don't use it IN America, you might as well just put on a fake British accent while you're at it.

There's a thing called the "preferred American pronunciation". If you are an American and using the Preferred American Pronunciation, you are NOT in the wrong.

Insisting otherwise actually makes YOU the silly ignoramus. Go find a communications, lit, or journalism major and they'll explain it to you in big giant long drawn out, passionate posts.

Actually, go find an American DICTIONARY. Look up Pakistan. In each and every one, the flat a pronunciation will be the first. In the Merriam Webster, "pock"istan is not even listed AS a pronunciation of the word. It's also the preferred pronunciation in Canada. I know it feels weird to realize that America IS allowed to pronounce words differently then other countries, but America IS a country. We ARE allowed to have preferred pronunciations of foreign words. Like other countries have.

But, feel free to continue calling me uneducated because I'm aware of how a word is supposed to be pronounced in America. Fact is, unless Obama is FROM some other country, then Obama is saying it wrong. he is using a non-native accent.

American Cheese Food is exactly what it claims to be. The proper American name FOR that substance is "cheese food". You're flailing for analogies and failing here. All you did there was reinforce MY point.

The Dictionary MUST BE the final authority in proper grammatical usage of words or you are insane. You are actually claiming that you know better then the institutes that study this for a living. At some point in some situations you have to accept appeal to authority, when in other situations it's fallacious. Yes, the peopel who study how Americans talk and write VERY MUCH ARE the authority on how Americans say and write words.

Or, to put it another way: If you can't accept the DICTIONARIES as reliable sources for how words are pronounced and spelled, then you aren't worth arguing with, because the only proof of anything you will EVER accept is your own personal opinion on a subject. Claiming the American DICTIONARIES are wrong on how Americans should pronounce a word is pure insanity.

...Paulson et. al. exploited the crisis to further their goal of consolidating the banking industry -- www.nytimes.com. -- #219 | Posted by Phoenix

For some reason that link isn't working now. It's to a 24Oct08 New York Times article by Joe Nocera. Here's an excerpt:

In point of fact, the dirty little secret of the banking industry is that it has no intention of using the money to make new loans. But this executive was the first insider who's been indiscreet enough to say it within earshot of a journalist.

(He didn't mean to, of course, but I obtained the call-in number and listened to a recording.)

"Twenty-five billion dollars is obviously going to help the folks who are struggling more than Chase," he began. "What we do think it will help us do is perhaps be a little bit more active on the acquisition side or opportunistic side for some banks who are still struggling. And I would not assume that we are done on the acquisition side just because of the Washington Mutual and Bear Stearns mergers. I think there are going to be some great opportunities for us to grow in this environment, and I think we have an opportunity to use that $25 billion in that way and obviously depending on whether recession turns into depression or what happens in the future, you know, we have that as a backstop."

Read that answer as many times as you want you are not going to find a single word in there about making loans to help the American economy. On the contrary: at another point in the conference call, the same executive (who I'm not naming because he didn't know I would be listening in) explained that "loan dollars are down significantly." He added, "We would think that loan volume will continue to go down as we continue to tighten credit to fully reflect the high cost of pricing on the loan side." In other words JPMorgan has no intention of turning on the lending spigot.

It is starting to appear as if one of Treasury's key rationales for the recapitalization program namely, that it will cause banks to start lending again is a fig leaf, Treasury's version of the weapons of mass destruction.

In fact, Treasury wants banks to acquire each other and is using its power to inject capital to force a new and wrenching round of bank consolidation. As Mark Landler reported in The New York Times earlier this week, "the government wants not only to stabilize the industry, but also to reshape it." Now they tell us.

Indeed, Mr. Landler's story noted that Treasury would even funnel some of the bailout money to help banks buy other banks. And, in an almost unnoticed move, it recently put in place a new tax break, worth billions to the banking industry, that has only one purpose: to encourage bank mergers. As a tax expert, Robert Willens, put it: "It couldn't be clearer if they had taken out an ad."

American Cheese Food is exactly what it claims to be. The proper American name FOR that substance is "cheese food". You're flailing for analogies and failing here. All you did there was reinforce MY point.

Let's make this clear: You actually think you know more about how Americans should properly pronounce words then Merriam-Webster, Oxford, Cambridge, (yes, they make American editions too!) and American Heritage combined.

I may be funny, but you're an idiot or certifiably insane. You're like bOoB, set out with a conclusion and won't let "facts" and "experts" get in the way. Whether you like it or not, America DOES have accepted and unaccepted ways of pronouncing words, and American Dictionaries ARE where this information is stored.

This means you and Obama are, in fact, both wrong. Is it a big giant huge wrong? Nope. Not at all. But it shows how frothing rabid his supporters are, especially here. It's silly how you people will actually bend _reality_ to make it so Obama's never wrong, about anything, ever, no matter how small it is.

Are you actually arguing the merits of the government buying everyone a house?

Really? I've done it before. Scouts honor.

I'm not a RABID Obama supporter. As I said, he's done a few things that kinda irked me. Yeah, he's only been president for a few weeks, but he did still vote while running.

His FISA vote pissed me off.
Letting Hillary be Sec of State? ugh.
Daschle. WTF.
The stimulus package. He keeps running to the center with it, which is a bad move. Sometimes a leftist or rightist approach is just plain wrong, and running to the middle of the two is a logical fallacy. I know he's trying to be bipartisan, but you see where it has gotten him: Zero republican votes, and a bunch of tax cuts they wanted in this bill. *sigh*

but you've been wearing the uniform on the boards for the last few weeks.

Sorry, when his opposition starts handing out "barack the magic negro" songs, I get a bit defensive.

It's hard to be critical of a guy when the other party is so frigging slimy. Go for the worst behavior first and work your way down.

The funny thing is that last October, after the McCain-Obama debate, the GOPers were going nuts over Obama's "elitist" pronunciation of Pakistan. Then it turned out that Gen. Petraeus also pronounces it Pahkistan.

SoHei's argument boils down to the idea that Obama should pronounce "Packistan" as the average American pronounces it. This is correct enough. Pronouncing it closer to the way Pakistanis pronounce it is wrong, and an affectation.

In other words, ignorance is not only bliss, but demonstrable.

Well, I got a dictionary. Then I looked it up online to hear the pronunciation as well. (that's a neat feature)

Soheifox was right... in that it is not wrong to pronounce it as most americans do.

I've noticed that quite of a few of our elected leaders say it as the pakis do. Probably because they talk to them.

SanAntonio-
Well, Petraeus can choke on his creme brulee...

Really, even more disgusting

Also - using the "C" word was to reference your 3 republiCon "leaders" arrested for doing that in public, perhaps in public airport restrooms our kids use

Again, even more disgusting than using the "C" word here...

Let's make this clear: You actually think you know more about how Americans should properly pronounce words then Merriam-Webster, Oxford, Cambridge, (yes, they make American editions too!) and American Heritage combined.

Sorry, but I just have to chuckle a little at your indignation. This after FIRST claiming that one of the words didn't even exist in the entire language.

That's what makes it funny, you see... the object of your ridicule not only eats it but can probably spell it! A card carrying speller!

I think you don't like people with more melanin in their skin. That's pretty apparent. Get out of Montana once in awhile. There are people besides white people and Native Americans all over the place. But, you're going to have to leave your little town to find out.

I've read some of his posts, and you're way off.

He didn't like Bush sycophants, and he doesn't like Obama sycophants. Problem is, the Bush ones were so nasty and braindead, that now he sees ANY defense of Obama as the same thing.

A card carrying speller!

Quelle surprise!

(oops, I went and said it)

A card carrying speller!

He grew up with a speak and spell, like all the elites.

Gunner, that makes sense, I didn't know Alexa was a chick for two or three years.

"The reason I savage Democrats is because I expect BETTER of them then the blind idiotic defense that the Right offered of Bush."

really? and this is the battle you choose?

I didn't know Alexa was a chick for two or three years.

Liar. You printed my name on here from my email, after sending me a bunch of ugly emails.(and getting my name from the response) That wasn't after 2 or 3 years.

Go fuck yourself with a sharp object.

Ok, I lied, I knew you were a chick from day one..

Plus, quit with the tired bullshit lies. I never did anything like that, I never posted your name, I never sent a self destruct emial.

JA did all of that, he told you he did.

So quit your lying and your crying Tammy Faye.

Who is "JA"?

When you girls get done debating pronunciations, maybe we could discuss the actual serious problems and what the fuck we're going to do about it.

If you don't think we're in serious trouble RIGHT FUCKING NOW! you are not paying attention.

The Republican mantra seems to be keep fiddling as Rome burns.

Let's grow the fuck up, put our petty bullshit aside for now, righten the ship, stabalize and get it moving again. THEN we can go back to our usual petty arguing.

We're all Americans and we're all circling the drain. Since when have Americans not been able to put their differences aside and work together for the good of Country at a time when she needs us the most?

I've only known calichris was a female for a few months.

Plus, quit with the tired bullshit lies. I never did anything like that, I never posted your name, I never sent a self destruct emial.

I sent an email to rogers about it, which made it special right there. Hard to forget that.

He apologized and dumped the comment. It was you. Under your name on here. I didn't say anything until it was scrubbed from any possible archiving, because I'm not an idiot.

And if it isn't you sending self destruct emails, and it is jackass...

Some friend you got, eh? He sends self destuct emails in your name using your style. So you're either a liar or a moron, rex. Take your pick.

PS- The last self destruct email I got in your name/writing style was the night you claimed to danforth and I that you'd changed.

So either you lied then, or your "friend" was undercutting you. I pity you.

Briwo-
Right now is a good example.

We're all Americans and we're all circling the drain. Since when have Americans not been able to put their differences aside and work together for the good of Country at a time when she needs us the most?

What, exactly, would you like me to do?

I'm not going to bother sending anymore letters to my "representatives" and I don't have any extra time or money to give beyond what I am already.

So if you know another way I can "work together for the good of the country" with whomever, I'd like to hear it.

Betelg: I know. What I'm saying is we're not acting like Americans. We need to work together right now, and people need to start realzing that like yesterday.

maybe stop the bickering and and as a group of millions, with ONE voice, tell our leaders to grow the fuck up, would be a good place to start.

I don't know. It's almost FUBAR. But we can't just keep tearing at each other based on D or R.

maybe stop the bickering and and as a group of millions, with ONE voice, tell our leaders to grow the fuck up, would be a good place to start.

The system is so rotten, I don't think it matters anymore. Honestly, I don't see bickering on a backwater blog as a problem.

Some people here do this or they shoot someone.

And this bill is supposed to fix this "non run of the mill recession" how?

A stimulus packaage should be just that, something to stimulate the economy not just support/extend programs already in place.

Here's are a few quotes straight from the HR itself and can be found on the 778 pg document here frwebgate.access.gpo.gov

I'm not saying these aren't good programs and shouldn't be looked at/funded, but don't put them in a STIMULUS bill, try to sell this crap as such and expect me to accept it.

Jackass undercut the hell out of me, but that is in the past.

Alex, when did this happen?

2005?

So you are still crying about one post that was deleted 4 years ago.

What is that all about?

13 questions.

A baker's dozen.

Actually, if you toss out the softball A-rod question out it was an even dozen.

Spud realises he's coming a little late to the party but still has a couple of thoughts on tonight's press conference.

First off, Gratz to HuffPo fer finally being allowed into the same august chamber that once housed Jeff Gannon and other media luminaries.

Double gratz tothe Huffinators fer making their first question a hardball.

ie. "Are you gonna investigate/ imprison/ draw and quarter the War Criminals of BushCo?" (Spud is paraphrase that one a mite, of course).

Raspberry fer Obama's predictable response.

"Nobody is above the law" followed by a BUT and...

"We in the admin want to look forward not backward" BS.

Spud sed it before Obama did, so sure was Spud that that would be the response there.

Props to Obama for noting that his first question form Helen Thomas was another "inauguration of sorts.

Triple props to Helen fer her "so-called terrorists" in Pakistan question.

/Spud luffs that gal.

Obama's answers on the Economy questions, which outnumbered the war questions by a significant ratio, were rather interesting for Spud.

Rather than directly answering the questions in many cases he begged of a "from the hip response" claiming either A) Not enuff data to make a definitive judgement at this time (okay, Spud can live with that one) or B) That he didn't want to steal Geithner's thunder in terms of the Timster's up and coming debut economic press conference. The second strategy seemed a bit disingenuous by Spud's lights but hey, Spud's just glad the guy talks in complete sentences, unlike his predecessor.

Overall the tone was professorial, aside from his remarks that he "can't take seriously" the whiny assed republican hypocrites who were biatching about food programs for kids and energy efeeciancy programs in his stimulus package and calling them "pork". Noting how up until pretty recently those same asswipes were falling over themselves to explain why BushCo's insane spending habits were legit.

Spud enjoyed that part immensly.

Obama made a point of noting that he had inherited this handlettered invitation to a shiatstorm.

Sommat that is, apparently, beyond the ken of more than a few RTs posting above.

Realistically saying that it would be at least a year before we start to see a turn around was a good move.

All in all Spud gives Obama's first real press conference a C+.

/May sounds low but compared to Dumbya's straight Ds it was a vast improvement.

Be Well.

/As he do, entering the DR
stage left.

Briwo, what is 'real', is the foot of snow we are getting tomorrow.

Are you actually arguing the merits of the government buying everyone a house?--#310 | Posted by rightisright

Me? Only if you compare it to the merits of doling out $2 trillion to corporations, without any disclosure.

If we "need" the stimulus, Obama should raise taxes to fund it.

Instead, he's just the next borrower in chief.

Just looks like $90 mil more for ACORN if I read it right. You're right, most of this stuff is pay-off and shouldn't be in this bill.

The Repubs are partially right! They just haven't learned when to shut up and vote for what's a little better 'bad' bill.

It really doesn't matter cause this is going to pass, then they can get down to the normal authorization bills, to keep everything else running.

When all that is done, have them all come back and do what they were supposed to do in the first place, a stimulus bill! That'll be at least another 2 or 3 Trillion!

It doesn't really matter, I'm to old to worry about paying for any of this! If no one else gives a shit about what my kids are going to have to pay, why should I give a shit about theirs?

I know, we'll all just declare bankruptcy at the same time! Each of us, the businesses we work for, and 'our' Government! We'll all be 'out from under'!

do what regan did, when he came in he was facing serious issues.. if you disagree your an idiot and just need to move on... he gave money back to the people and guess what.. we thrived and prospered, but then again, he was a Rep. so im sure the obama lovers and bush haters will spew hate and lies , just as obama has about it being the Rep. fault for entitlements, did anyone listen to that load of crap last night. more proof how he can spread lies about history and get away with it, unchallenged by the media that loves him.

Apparently you don't know what Reagan really did. No surprise.

Will this guy ever quit campaigning and offer some real substance to his plans for all of these great things he proposed to do...nothing but flops so far..as usual in DC, just words, no real action...
his press conference was nothing but more campaigning...no real solutions...all surface crap that he spilled for two years... and, not very good on his feet at all...
he will be the problem of the next four years, alone...

"do what regan did, when he came in he was facing serious issues.."

No, can't do that, Reagan cam into office and continued the same policies of Jimmy Carter following Paul Volker's advice until inflation was under control. Then he set about lowering taxes for the rich and creating our first 3 trillion dollar debt which is part of the problem we are dealing with today. It would be accurate to say REagan was the father of today's economic problems. Obama made it clear last night we are not going to return to the failed ideas of the past.

"and, not very good on his feet at all..."

Someone couldn't follow 7 minutes of actual policy discussion, it went right over his head. He yearns for the days of short idiotic sound bites from Dubya.

Yeah Jimmy Carter had it right. Double digit interest rates, gut the military (remember we couldn't even successfully fly 6 helicopters to rescue those held hostage), creating the environment for what we have in Iran today. Not enough space to cover it all here. Yeah Big Government is the way to go bwecause they have done so much right. Amtrak, Education, Social Security, Medicare, US Post Office. Unfortunate some in this country ned the government to tell them how to spend their money and provide them the guidance and direction they can't provide themselves.

Reagan cam into office and continued the same policies of Jimmy Carter following Paul Volker's advice until inflation was under control.

Your understanding of history is selective, per usual.

First off, Carter did inherit a Nixon/Ford economic mess. What did he do in response? Everything within his power to exacerbate the problems he inherited. At the end of his presidency, much to his credit, he nominated Volcker - a no non-sense guy who recognized our core-problems for what they were, and wasn't afraid to tell it like it was. Reagan wisely chose to keep Volcker AND he provided the political capital to back Volcker's honest assessment of our country's problems and what it would take to right the ship.

Much to your chagrin, it was Reagan, with his full-endorsement of Volcker that largely got this country out of its '70's downward spiral.

Obama made it clear last night we are not going to return to the failed ideas of the past.

Bullshit! Obama has made it abundantly clear that he's going to prop-up failed business models and he's not even going to tax-and spend to do so - he's going to borrow-and-spend to a level that even George W. Bush and the Republican party thieves would have found to be repugnant.

Next, this socialist will be after socialized health care. Doesn't work anywhere else, but what does that matter.

The school nutrition hand-wringing & the children's medical coverage & "OH WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN?"
I have the same problem with this as with most government programs. They give to people, (exluding the elderly or disabled or infirm) who for the most part, are doing the absolute least possible to improve their own situations. People who CHOOSE not to work or to work only enough to keep the benefits, people who take their kids to the emergency room for a cold on the Medicaid dime, people who expect the government to provide these things like they're just too busy or good or entitled to work like the fucking rest of us! Until we ask some hard questions of the "low-income folks" among us, we are going to see waste that makes the rest of us NUTS because we're busting our ass & barely getting by! Does the extra money for school lunch, food stamps, & medical coverage apply to a broader group of people (in regards to income restrictions) who are actually paying in to the system & have the need still or just to those who aren't doing all they can & sticking it to everyone stuck in the middle that we keep hearing SO MUCH about?
I was on a rant about this yesterday & it continues to bug me. I didn't expect anyone to cover my ass when I had 2 children under what was not ideal circumstances & I don't expect something for nothing but I just cannot go on watching those who do so little get so much. It is very discouraging to go to work at 6:30 every morning & then work a part time job on the side while raising 2 children knowing that in truth, I'd be better off to take a low paying crap job so I could reap the government benefits. What is more disheartening is that the folks at social services have encouraged just that in the past! These people are spending my money! Because they care or to keep their funding? We all know the answer. Imagine if everyone just said "fuck it" & gave up? Talk about a catastrophe. This mentality will be the downfall of our society much quicker than fucking banks or policy decisions, or terrorism, or anything because we've become OK with half-assing it. Not only from our government, financial institutions, & schools, but from our citizens. Empires have been destroyed by less. I would like to see some reform on who is eligible for these programs. It would reinforce the REAL middle class making a sincere effort in this country & be a wake up call for those that are currently eligible to know they are going to have to step up their game if they want a piece of the pie.
Of course, I know this won't ever happen because the poor & uneducated & dependent are a much more reliable voting block.
OK, I'm sorry, I'm done but it has been riding me hard all week & it's only fucking Tuesday!

Well put ! If nothing else, just know you are not alone. There are many of us out here who feel the same way.

"Then he set about lowering taxes for the rich and creating our first 3 trillion dollar debt which is part of the problem we are dealing with today. You mean like the failed ideas of borrow like a drunk slut on daddy's credit card, and spend?

#361 | Posted by JeffJ

Exactly. I'm not even a liberal, but I would MUCH rather have a tax-and-spender than this borrow-and-spend bull shit (same shit Bush did).

Wow, I really want to go out to the mall now and spend... Obama's fear-mongering is going to drive the economy even worse in the hole.

No kidding. The poor elderly don't deserve this type of political scare tactic.

Too true. Damn kids!

-political scare tactic.

More of an economic reality, according to both liberal and conservative economists.

This may just be enough to wake up some people in this country. Maybe they will start to speak up. The government has a history of causing more trouble than good and at a higher cost.

Too true. Damn kids!

I have 2 kids. I love kids. It's the lazy, idiot, society-leech parents that put me over the edge. Their only contribution is raising more just like them. Thanks!

What's the difference, if they both think we should borrow and spend ourselves into oblivion?

Spend Tax Spend Keep raising taxes and continue spending, just like in California. People and businesses will react. They don't have to stay there. Then, lets see what the tax and spenders there will do.

They are the experts. Or, we could listen to you.

Tough choice, eh?

So this little gem has a provision that extends and funds welfare.

The 10 yr fiscal burden is 1.34 trillion for welfare. 1.34 TRILLION FOR WELFARE!!!! How is this stimulus again?

This is the crap I was talking about as far as "change" and "handouts" Sure they want to pass this bill, it assures their position as mommies to their losers come election time.

C'mon Prezz...do the right thing and whats good for the US and it's future not whats good for you and your little club.

F'n crooks...ALL OF EM!!!!

Experts would never have put them in the position they are in now. Not a tough choice for me at all. Seems to be for them.

"The 10 yr fiscal burden is 1.34 trillion for welfare. 1.34 TRILLION FOR WELFARE!"

Why...that's almost half what we've given the banks! Egad!!!

They are the experts. Or, we could listen to you.

Tough choice, eh?

#375 | Posted by Corky

When one of the so called experts shows me something they would cut, I'll listen. The so called experts would have a helluva time running a small to medium business. How many businesses facing a smaller scale problem would show up at the bank with their hand out?

They are the experts. Or, we could listen to you.

Tough choice, eh?

#375 | Posted by Corky

The same experts who said we needed the last Wall Street handout?

Maybe I shouldn't be asking the DR's biggest cheerleader for tax payer funded Wall Street bonuses.

Bernanke and Geithner have their fingerprints all over the outrageous AIG bailout... and Goldman-Sachs and Morgan-Stanley...

Where is the change? Oh there is none, just payback for their $114 million in campaign contributions. $2 trillion in returns, not a bad deal for those on the receiving end. Works every time.

The same experts who said we needed the last Wall Street handout?

Maybe I shouldn't be asking the DR's biggest cheerleader for tax payer funded Wall Street bonuses.

#380 | Posted by LIVE_OR_DIE

We did need the TARP. Sadly our elected representatives let us down by proceeding willy-nilly and not placing appropriate oversight and transparency into the legislation.

Obama says he's taken steps to remedy that for the second half. I sure hope so.

"Sadly our elected representatives let us down by proceeding willy-nilly and not placing appropriate oversight and transparency into the legislation."

I can't buy in to the notion those against it wouldn't have pointed that out, unless those of both parties facing re-election ran for cover once they all knew it would pass. My belief is a lot of that cash went overseas, to calm nervous foreign investors and keep them buying greenbacks. But fearing the public wouldn't have reacted well, they kept it as quiet as possible.

Just a theory.

I wish a small business I owned would have competed with these so called experts. Life would have been alot easier.

I can't buy in to the notion those against it wouldn't have pointed that out, unless those of both parties facing re-election ran for cover once they all knew it would pass. I think there may be something to your overseas theory.

As to the other, I think Paulsen et al did a sufficient snow job on the Congress to get it passed without much regulation. (The original plan was only 3 pages long and basically said Paulsen was God)

I think people either voted for it, or just got the hell out of the way. Not good, either way.

We did need the TARP...#382 | Posted by SanAntonioRogue

??? I think you're alone on this. TARP was discredited by Paulson himself before a dime of the money was spent.

Remember, it was *3 weeks* after Congress' authorization before Paulson spent any money, and he spent NONE of it on TARP. Seems like staff work and public deliberation would have likely delivered a better plan.

Small business survives on available credit, which isn't anymore.

Again, there isn't a nickel's worth of difference in the remedies offered by both liberal and conservative economists.

If you want to think that is some sort of conspiracy, Jeffn has a room for you in Denmark.

Remember, it was *3 weeks* after Congress' authorization before Paulson spent any money, and he spent NONE of it on TARP. Seems like staff work and public deliberation would have likely delivered a better plan.

#386 | Posted by Phoenix

Don't get me wrong... I don't think the first half of TARP was handled correctly by any stretch of the imagination.

However, simply because a program was horribly managed doesn't necessarily mean the concept of the program was bad. I would say the war in Afghanistan is a case in point.

The 10 yr fiscal burden is 1.34 trillion for welfare. 1.34 TRILLION FOR WELFARE!!!! How is this stimulus again?

It stimulates the lazy, uneducated, half-ass voting base of the left who will appreciate Uncle Sam's investment in their sloth come election day.

If they have to continue feeding this beast, what they should do is take the welfare recipients & give them their benefits for the year in a lump sum. Here you go, but once it's gone it's GONE! The increase in spending on really important shit like DVDs, plasma TVs, you know the essentials, would be a quick shot to the economy & would prove ONCE & FOR ALL to the idiots who actually don't know that the bulk of the recipients are committing FUCKING FRAUD having the tax payer foot the bill for their needs while continually making selfish & poor decisions with what money they do have! Even the media couldn't wash that over with the American people. It will cross all racial boundries & shed light on this idea that the "poor" in this country are often victims of their own stupidity & selfishness. Liberals would be loving some churches then because they'd be the only one feeding the parasites.

I think Paulsen et al did a sufficient snow job on the Congress to get it passed... -- #385 | Posted by SanAntonioRogue

It took an awful lot of willful ignorance if they were snowed. I'm going with corruption. Giving a screwup who needs a job in the banking industry in 3 months free rein to dole out funds to banks is such obvious conflict of interest that SOMEONE in Congress had to notice it.

As to the other, I think Paulsen et al did a sufficient snow job on the Congress to get it passed without much regulation. (The original plan was only 3 pages long and basically said Paulsen was God)

#385 | Posted by SanAntonioRogue

Yes, the nature of the debate was we need it now, the experts say so, waiting will ruin the economy, etc. Sound familiar?

Rushing through legislation of this magnitude is a recipe for disaster, IMO.

And why doesn't the bill include some form of tax increase to help pay for it?

"I think people either voted for it, or just got the hell out of the way."

I also believe had Congress been 100% Republican, it still would have passed. Bush drove (or allowed to be driven) the ship of state off the cliff, the "bailout" was merely the decision to engage the airbags.

...simply because a program was horribly managed doesn't necessarily mean the concept of the program was bad. -- #388 | Posted by SanAntonioRogue

TARP stands for "Troubled Asset Relief Program." The plan sold to Congress was for Paulson to buy up the BAD assets from banks. Krugman wrote an op-ed piece before the vote explaining why this was a bad idea, and Stiglitz went a step farther. (Why should Americans be left holding the BAD assets?)

Paulson also decided it was a bad plan, and designed a new one before spending any money.

I'm guessing that you don't know what TARP is, and are using the term to refer to the bailout. If that's not the case, though, why do YOU disagree with 2 Nobel Prize winners, Paulson, and countless others? More importantly, why do you think that it's okay to leave U.S. taxpayers holding the bag, instead of getting some return on the money they spend on the bailout?

"...& shed light on this idea that the "poor" in this country are often victims of their own stupidity & selfishness."

And how would you characterize the Wall Street Welfare Queens? Also "victims of their own stupidity & selfishness...?"

I don't think a person of my beliefs would be very well received in Denmark. These guys just want to throw money at things with little to no regard to where it goes.

And how would you characterize the Wall Street Welfare Queens? Also "victims of their own stupidity & selfishness...?"

The same damn way. It smacks of hypocrisy to blame Wall Street for EVERYTHING & not take into account that Main Street hasn't been living up to it's end of the bargain in many ways too! It only makes for better "feel good" rhetoric. We have a serious confusion about needs -vs- wants in America.

Again, there isn't a nickel's worth of difference in the remedies offered by both liberal and conservative economists.--#387 | Posted by Corky

Explain to me how Lindsey's plan -- subsidizing FICA, and helping Americans pay down their debt and refi their mortgages -- is in any way comparable to either Dem or Repub proposals.

If you want to think that is some sort of conspiracy, Jeffn has a room for you in Denmark.--#387 | Posted by Corky

If you think both parties haven't caved to special interest groups, I've got some swampland...

Maybe our government is so far gone that pragmatically, this bill is the best we're going to get. But we heard that line about the bailout, and it was wrong.

The sad thing is that something DOES need to be done quickly, and our corrupt leaders are rich enough to hold out as long as they like.

"It smacks of hypocrisy to blame Wall Street for EVERYTHING & not take into account that Main Street hasn't been living up to it's end of the bargain'

True, both deserve blame.

But who's idea was it for 125% LTVs? Or liar's loans? Or teaser rates? Or interest only loans? Main street, or the guys who went to business school and, supposedly, took risk assessment classes?

And who thought it was a good idea to leverage bad paper against bad paper to the tune of 100-1? Joe Sixpack, or Joe Wallstreet?

This problem isn't because one person couldn't pay their loan. It's because those with the money went wild and pretended they weren't subject to the economic laws of gravity. Don't forget: these lenders TOLD the borrowers they could afford it, if by no other way than approving the loan.

DANFORTH

You always make too much sense for the wingnuts to understand.

Add the fact the GOP fought regulating derivatives like 'credit default swaps'. Hell, the GOP has fought regulation tooth and nail, period.

Funny how some people's minds work, isn't it?

Joe Wallstreet makes a bunch of bad choices and can't pay his debts, so you make Joe Sixpack give him $2.7 trillion.

Joe Sixpack, with Joe Wallstreet's blessing, makes a bad choice and can't pay his debts, so he's a deadbeat.

"DANFORTH You always make too much sense for the wingnuts to understand"

I also think I hold the record for most unanswered questions.

"Hell, the GOP has fought regulation tooth and nail, period."

And then have the gall to pretend it's all the Dems fault, as if they would have reversed all course had they only held on to power 2 years ago.

Democrats Fighting Regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Clinton says at the end that Democrats resisted efforts by republicans and himself when he was president to tighten up restrictions on FMae and FMac.

Obama spreads the blame:

"Mr. Obama: I think it's a top priority. I think that we have to restore a sense of trust, transparency, openness in our financial system. And keep in mind that the deregulation process, it wasn't just one party. I think there's a lot of blame to spread around.

I also believe had Congress been 100% Republican, it still would have passed.
* * * *

If Congress had been 100% Republican, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac wouldn't exist; AIG would have been driven into bankruptcy, therefore nullifying the CDS swaps; and after a brief shock--nine months or so--we would have emerged with clean balance sheets, and lower prices on everything.

But, no. The New York and Connecticut delegations are 100% Democrat, and are in the pocket of Wall Street. So I hope you didn't need the money. Chris Dodd and Hillary and Schumer and Timmy decided to raise yours and yours kids' taxes for the next hundred years to bail out their pals in Greenwich and the Hamptons. And all your hypotheticals can't change that fact.

As long as the 'fear of economic depression' and 'it will get worse' keeps falling on the ears of people who cannot grasp the issues, the extra money a lot of these people get will be hoarded in fear of the unknown, instead of wild spending sprees to prop the economy... until lending gets on foot for the small business so that people will have something real to build confidence in, the rest is rhetoric for most of them... it will take the hiring in the mainstream business sector to get spending confidence back... and, also a real move to get housing on track, not the BS that is thrown around.. there are only two things most of middle America believe in: jobs and property values when it comes to understanding economics.. the infrastructure jobs are not a confidence builder....it is the smaller businesses being able to stabilize and get back on their feet.

"And all your hypotheticals can't change that fact."

Keep pretending Republicans would have sat on their hands weeks before an election as everything tanked. It was no coincidence many of the naysayers--of both parties--were up for re-election.

Danforth we can talk about the past all we want...fact is today if this bill passes, it's crap and I have reviewed the 778 pgs. and posted facts from it.

How about the fact that the government decides what medical procedures you are allowed to get? How again is this stimulus?

Still care to support this garbage as ANY kind of stimulus bill what-so-ever or call it what it is a socialist agenda masked as somekind of stimulus package?.

"Danforth we can talk about the past all we want..."

Okay...who do you believe is more responsible for bringing us to this point...Joe Sixpack or Joe Wallstreet?

"How about the fact that the government decides what medical procedures you are allowed to get?"

If you don't see that's coming at us, and has been for decades, you're blind.

Health care is just about to see a spike in demand as baby boomers move through retirement. I doubt there will be a concurrent spike in supply, and that means the costs will go through the roof. Medical expenses are already bankrupting many states, and the worst hasn't hit us yet. Anyone believing we aren't headed for socialized medicine---because it's the only way we're going to be able to afford it---has their head in the sand. You may not like it, and I may not like it, but this tsunami has been headed our way all our lives. Nothing is gained at this point by pretense, especially when other countries offer better care for a much lower percentage of GDP.

Okay...who do you believe is more responsible for bringing us to this point...Joe Sixpack or Joe Wallstreet?

BOTH! We can defend people for being "duped" by banks but short of being illiterate, given all the resources available to people to make informed decisions, alot of the time Joe Sixpack is lazy knowing that it is a knee jerk reaction to blame the big business folks.

This article is discussing Obama selling this package as needed by all of us. Danforth I'm not deflecting, BOTH are to blame because 6-pack wanted to wrap his arms and legs around the world and Wallstreet sold him the fact he could.

Now back to topic....this is in the bill

I remember a time when ppl were freaking out about Bush and his trying to tap terrorist phones and everybody was up in arms. Terrorists!

Now OBAMA's government wants to have ALL INFO ON EVERY CITIZEN by 2014 and yet....that's ok? Not terrorists...it's in Black and White...line 5-8, EVERY Single US Citizen.

And oh yes AGAIN!!! How is this stimulus?

I haven't seen anyone give me an answer to ANY of my posts supporting how this crap package is stimulus...NOBODY. Whats the deal? It stinks and there is no defense? Then say so.

Don't think that this guy is your champion and that makes you better and that makes him right.

HE IS YOUR EMPLOYEE!!! NOT YOUR MASIAH. Make him work for you. I call this President to not sign this bill, send it back and make it a true stimulus package.

Bridges, damns, roads, industry, renovation...MAKE JOBS dammit!. Dont waste my money! And that's all this is.

FINALLY!!!

A President who can answer questions without a two or three word flippant response.

I do love watching him speak simply because you can see him thinking. I have never seen that in a President in my lifetime.

Bush sucks! Look at those deficits!
Obama's great! Look at the size of his deficit!

LMAO. Keep selling!

The market is really impressed with Obama's Tresury Secretary's plan that Obama didn't want to go into last night, because he didn't want to take away Geithner's thunder. DOW Down 380 pts 4.65% and falling.

Hey I think I need a new kitchen and a car since my unemployment checks only come in for 1000 a month when I'm used to making 3k.

I think I'll send Obama an email and ask for that stuff. He probably has a new department he formed in this "Stimulus" package just for this situation.

Oh here it is the DOGEFFACIPOSP "Department of Gimme Everything For Free and Call It Part Of a Stimulus Package"

What did he tell the lady last night? I'll have some of my ppl talk to you, let's see what we can do? So now Obama's a plumber putting in kitchens?
Or is this The Price is Right giving away cars?

WTF is going on with this country? And this is stimulus?

RiR is only partially correct

Resistance to the bailout has come from TWO disparate groups, principled Conservatives, which formed the largest group and principled fringe progressives like Bernie Sanders and Dennis Kucinich.

But, that Republican Goldman-Sachs man Paulson rewrote a few key sentences in Congresses Bailout Bill rendering conditional enforcement impossible. Didn't tell anyone outside the criminal White House what he was doing. A real patriot.

...short of being illiterate, given all the resources available to people to make informed decisions, alot of the time Joe Sixpack is lazy knowing that it is a knee jerk reaction to blame the big business folks.--#409 | Posted by HATEBIGGOV

In this case, Joe Sixpack made the same assessment Joe Wallstreet, the vast majority of financial advisors he might have consulted, and folks like Greenspan did -- that housing values would continue to rise.

Under the circumstances, bailing out Joe Wallstreet and telling Joe Sixpack it's his own damn fault doesn't seem reasonable.

Lets HOPE everyone understands that much of this debt will be paid from their pocket and their kids pockets. Irregardless if they are a Democrat, a Republican or a Zebra. Also this isn't the worst Recession since the Great Depression no matter how many times Obama says it is. He was either in College or working for some quasi-Government Agency in the early 1980's, so that recession went by him unnoticed. Much like spending close to a trillion bucks in the next few weeks. Its just money! Newly printed money!

The fear mongering that the libs hated by Bush and employed by Obama is getting a free pass because it is Obama doing it.

Double standard or hypocrites.

As for his Press Conference--Obama reads from a teleprompter saying the same crap he was saying two weeks ago--all talking points.

He manages to answer a measley 12 questions. The A-roid question doesn't count.

And this was supposed to be about the spending package and they asked bs questions for fluff over foreign events.

So he really only had 9 questions maybe about the economy.

His first answer was 7 minutes long for manure's sake.

And if this such a different recession and no one knows what the phuck to do--why spend all this money?

Why not spend only 100 Billion and see how it goes.

There are too many items that have nothing to do with stimulus and everything to do with spending--wasteful spending.

This won't create or even "save" jobs.

Only the gov't will grow--not the private sector, not the middle class.

Trickle up poverty.

Question: what's the difference between welfare and the stimulus plan?
Answer: none!

Governments don't invest; they rob Peter to pay Paul. They borrow knowing they can't pay their debts much longer. I project Obama to accumulate more deficits in his first year than it took Bush in the last four years of office. They don't have that much credit, so they'll have print the rest. People with dollar assets and real estate are getting the screwing of their lives.

"Governments don't invest; they rob Peter to pay Paul."

Yeah, because a billion spent on roads that the private sector needs to be able to move goods is just a waste of money, not an investment.

I bet we don't see much of Geithner after the market dropped 300 points after introduced his plan to save the economy.

There is no one in the world--no country-- who can lend us a trillion plus dollars to pay for this.

It is all printed up monopoly money.

Wait for the 200% inflation.

But hey--Zimbabwe just took off 12 zeroes from it's money value and everything is now peachy king--right?

And it's all pork.

Earth to Null--

Investment means a return.

The roads and bridges go to union jobs--payback from Obama.

Unless they make them toll roads and bridges--there is no return.

It is busy work--not a stimulus.

It belongs in another bill--not this "stimulus" bill.

God forbid anyone make a living wage - enough to support a family without being one illness or layoff away from disaster.

"Earth to Null--

Investment means a return.

The roads and bridges go to union jobs--payback from Obama."

Earth to Goofy, the private sector gets a return on government investment in roads. Moron. All you give a fuck about is that the jobs are unionized. You would rather see bridges collapse and people killed than union workers repair them. Why do you hate Americans, Murphy?

Null--it is NOT a stimulus--it is pork or better belongs in a transportation bill.

This will NOT stimulate the economy until 2011 or 2012.

See the difference?

This will NOT stimulate the economy until 2011 or 2012."

According to who, you? I would assume that any stimulus is going to take some time for the multiplier effects to take hold. It took 8 years of your former God, George W. Bush to dig this hole; it will take some time to dig out.

According to the CBO..

You mean the CBO study that examined only 40% of the bill?

Why not spend only 100 Billion and see how it goes.

There are too many items that have nothing to do with stimulus and everything to do with spending--wasteful spending.

Posted by MURPHY

Why not try to jump start your car with a AA battery?

What items have nothing to do with stimulus? Spending is by its very definition "stimulus".

Question:
Whats your qualifications???

"What is worse - a bigger shortfall in the short-term resulting in a better outlook long-term, or vice versa?"

It depends on the size of the shortfall. As an alleged Marxist, I can hardly be described as a friend of bankers, but I'm pragmatic.

I would love to put these bankers in front of the firing squad.

So would I.

This is corporate welfare - the worst form of welfare imaginable.

Our government is propping up failed business models.

It's bullshit.

Gotta run - have a good evening.

I am curious why no one has gone to jail? I mean Ken Lay and I am not defending him in the least but, he was going to be prosecuted before he died. The crimes committed by him were like shoplifting compared to these bankers.

Maybe you could explain what you don't think is stimulus in the bill. No one else has been able to, thus far.

Are you F'n kiddin me? ..I've been goin on all day about this shit!!! I started reading the thing last night at around 11.

I just finished parusing a passage where we are giving 6 Biliion, thats with a B for Indians and pure water, housing and grants. Let me tell you, them casinos do very nicely. Not speaking from inuendo but fact. The ZERO unemployment helps out quite a bit, you don't work if you don't want to but they ALL get jobs at the casino. And the FREE houses built for Indian couples when they marry is a sweet perk. All on the casino dime, so why is it they need a billion of anything again?. For the tribes that don't have casinos you say? Well there is a sharing program that still takes care of those tribes that dont have such luxuries.

And please just read any of my other, non able to display pork posts then get back to me.

That pain in your ass is the DOW dropping 300 points today. I got down on my knees and prayed Geithner keeps his mouth shut for the next 4 years. That and the fact that the one guy we had to have b/c no one else could do it even though he could not figure out his tax forms dropped the market by 300 points w/ his first unveiling of "the plan"

Let me tell you, them casinos do very nicely.

2. Do all Indian tribes have casinos? No.

3. Are you claiming the money for housing and water projects doesn't generate jobs?

Jeez, AU's "A" game. Don't forget to recycle the empties.

Sanantonio...what taxes do they pay on those casinos. They aren't required to pay any...so yes I would say they are still doing quite nicely. Vegas, atlantic city and others have share holdes they are responsible to...the tribes have? They have themselves...and not hundreds of thousands or millions of share holders but their tribe. The entire pop of Indians in the US are 1.9 mil with the Cherokee the largest at 308K. So again...they are doing quite nicely. Stimulus? Really?

And like I said I have knowledge of this as a fact. I have a freind who works as a consultant and was hired by the Indian casino system to help them figure out what to do with their money. Why is that? Beacuse they have so much they want to know how to invest it wisely. Can't be hurting if thats the case dont ya think? And all the other mentions...your going to defend those as stimulus?

The money generates jobs at a place that doesn't need the money to be spent, because they have the $$.

Hey here's an idea...so how about apporpriate it somewhere that DOES need the $$

Gimme a break.

.so yes I would say they are still doing quite nicely....

So are you telling me that the stimulus bill appropriates money for water and housing projects ONLY on reservations where the tribe owns a casino? Because I'm pretty sure the majority of tribes in this country do not own a casino.

Or does it appropriate money that all tribes can apply for, based on need?

"I'm sorry Americans don't like your kind."

Are we not all Americans? Should you not say that Democrats and most independents don't like your kind...Either way I think AU may be the biggest prick to ever be on the drudge...JMHO.

Here, WISGOD

Since you seem to be having trouble reading numbers here's a picture for you to look at from Pew Research on general Dem/GOP approval:

pewresearch.org

You're one to talk about retorts. Your typical retort involves calling someone a 'fuckwad' or using the word "fuck' or "fuckers'.

You seem especially touchy tonight. Is it the fact you're on the losing side of the arguments or the beer - or both? America simply doesn't agree with you. While I don't know the millions of others,

I'll take Gallup or Pew Research's word for it that America simply doesn't like Republicans or their policies. They've been a disaster - the latest which will take us years to dig out from under

Bwahahaha. Poor AU. Carrying water for a living.

Biggest prick is saying a lot.... in all my years on the drudge...that goes back to the visitor days...nothing to be ashamed of though.

No need to 'carry water'. I voted. I tell it like it is. Bush and the GOP ruined this country when they were given surpluses and a plan to pay off the national debt two years from now.

It's amazing how the Republicans continue to want to blame it on someone else. Baffling actually.

Oh and Au. Just so you know the biggest drop under Bush was 700 points. To be fair it was after the dem congress failed to pass the first stimulus.

"Democrats countered that Boehner failed to muster enough votes to back the President and mocked the idea that a principled vote could be swayed by a speech."
From the Daily News/Money. But, that was when democrats were playing politics.

SILENT

Go through my posts. You won't find me calling people 'fuckwad', or being an asshole just to be an asshole. I'll debate, but once someone proves to be a prick, I'll hand them their ass on a platter with facts.

It's amazing how the Republicans continue to want to blame it on someone else. Baffling actually.

Not even in the top 10.

Sanantonio....thats what I was saying before about tribes that dont have casinos, there are tribes small enough that cause very little burden to share their assets with. Nobody is hurting in the Indian community financially.

Look, they got a raw deal with the US way back then....I feel for that situation and they were seriously robbed. But...they have found a way to overcome their injustice and now are doing very well and I am very happy for them. I hope they can do 10 times better because in my opinion, they deserve it.

But to say that on top of their being financially independent we have to shove BILLIONS more at them? C'mon.

Their tax-free status is an awesome position to be, a very powerful one....good for them.

Now lets put this money on rebuilding infrastructure that needs the $$ and does not have any means to pay for it.

If you notice there are many items in this bill that are a travesty...I have outlined them and attached the document to prove it. Go thru it...see for yourself.

I have seen you are one for details. It's all there.

And understand this upfront, if this thing passes as-is untouched by the mighty line item veto or his requiring changes be made, the President will be Mudd in my book til his last day.

This isn't a left/right/center/commy/
extremist talking...this is someone who is saying I support the man that makes decisions that are good for America, and when that vision is gone, so is my support. I still hope the man corrects some of these mistakes and I can continue wishing him the best and supporting his post...politically that is. Professionally I always will.

I think we covered enough of all that the other night.

I'm sorry the numbers don't appeal to you, but they are what they are. Insulting me or anyone else won't change them.

However, you can call Gallup and Pew and take it up with them. I'm only the messenger:

Should have typed "Not even in my top 10" since that statement is obviously JMO as I stated... like your statement....opinion.

Give him time Au. It was only one speech and it was his plan to fix the economy.

"This isn't a left/right/center/commy/

Amen brother.

DALTON

It was a speech about how to dole out the remaining $350,000,000,000 of the $700,000,000,000 bank bailout plan.

Not how to fix the economy.

C'mon.

#492 | Posted by observer27

You seem to be laboring under the misconception that tribes with casinos share their revenue with all tribes. They don't.

And not all those casinos are really doing as well as you seem to think. www.time.com

"Meanwhile, the overwhelming majority of Indians get nothing. Only half of all tribeswhich have a total of 1.8 million membershave casinos. Some large tribes like the Navajo oppose gambling for religious reasons. Dozens of casinos do little better than break even because they are too small or located too far from population centers. The upshot is that a small number of gaming operations are making most of the money. Last year just 39 casinos generated $8.4 billion. In short, 13% of the casinos accounted for 66% of the take. All of which helps explain why Indian gaming has failed to raise most Native Americans out of poverty."

So explain to me again why money in this bill that would allow poorer tribes to apply for funding to build water systems and build houses is bad?

observer,

Now OBAMA's government wants to have ALL INFO ON EVERY CITIZEN by 2014 and yet....that's ok? Not terrorists...it's in Black and White...line 5-8, EVERY Single US Citizen.

There is NOTHING about sharing people's health information in anything you posted. NOTHING.

Are you F'n kiddin me? ..I've been goin on all day about this shit!!! I started reading the thing last night at around 11.

Now I'm not saying you haven't read the bill, but one thing is quite clear from the post I cited above, you have zero comprehension abilities.

And AmericanUnity - post #493 really got me chuckling!! FF.

You see, Observer, what you are doing is spreading disinformation about the stimulus package.

Saying that there is money in the bill for rich Indian tribes with thriving casinos is simply not true.

Its very similar to everyone who was running around uselessly flapping their wings like flightless birds and screeching that "the package gives ACORN $X billion dollars".

When the actuality is that the bill appropriates dollars for lower income housing renovation projects. And ACORN is ONE of HUNDREDS of businesses and organizations who do housing renovation and would be ELIGIBLE to APPLY and COMPETE for those dollars.

See the difference?

It's amazing how the Republicans continue to want to blame it on someone else. Baffling actually.

It's Feb. 10th. Let's focus on the now and the future, K? You've had 3 weeks to sober up...

A- Should I be embarrased about how long it's been since I've been drunk? Quite a few years. I don't like headaches and feeling like a bruised macaroni noodle.

B- So, now it's off limits to even talk about why we're in this huge mess? I read day after day on here how the fall of the DOW is Obama's fault, how it's his fault we have a Stimulus Plan - or even had to have one.

C- The Right wingers here have been blaming everyone from Bill Clinton to Barney Franks, and even Jimmy Carter, for our current troubles. When I see right wing nuts (as opposed to rational Republicans) admit that the policies that got us here are what got us here I'll talk about the future. Any rational person learns from their mistakes and tries not to repeat them....

I am willing to blame all of them! Bush, Barney Frank, & the lot. Congress demanded that more people own homes. Barney Frank even stated that even if Freddie and Fannie were not strong "it's not like the federal government is going to bail them out". Bush allowed it to continue b/c he could say "more people own homes than any other time in history" They all thought they would look good and their biggest contributors would get rich doing it. It's just when you want to blame one person alone as if he is an idiot and somehow has control over everyone to do his dirty work for him is not believable.

"I am willing to blame all of them!"

It is not one party or the other you partisan hacks...It is both parties that got us in to this mess.

in to=into...just go ahead and clear that up.

Sanantonio I'm going from the fact that my buddy gets paid $2500.00 a day as consultant...he keeps telling them its time to leave the nest and venture out on their own and they wont let him go.

I'm like your kidding..he says, money is not an issue with these ppl. They are more concerned about making good decisions for the tribes and their futures.

I am not ignoring your numbers, or questioning them. But what is reported is not always what it seems. I have only seen that my entire career. And it goes both ways, the government says "just keep walking, nothing to see here" when they're full of it or the press yelling the sky is falling and theres "nothing to see here"

Like I said before...don't get bogged down on this 1 thing.

Post 347 Grants, tribal courts, substance abuse and salaries, oh and internet crimes...Stimulus? really?

Post 375 extends Welfare for 10 yrs and costs 1.34 trillion

Post 409 obtaining information on every US citizen by 2014...Bush tapping terrorists was ...OH MY GOD!!!!! but this is ok? And it's stimulus how?

frwebgate.access.gpo.gov

And like I said it's all in here. Also as far as what tribes get what? This bill doesn't talk that way...who the hell knows where it goes.

This entry really got me...page 118 line 16

DEPARTMENTAL OFFICES
16 INSULAR AFFAIRS
17 ASSISTANCE TO TERRITORIES
18 For an additional amount for ‘‘Assistance to Terri19
tories’’, $62,000,000, to remain available until September
20 30, 2010.

What the hell does that mean? 62 mil going where for what? That sentence is as specific as it gets

Yav read the bill, here I'll do the work for you since finding it for yourself seems a bit difficult

frwebgate.access.gpo.gov

page 244-250 mentions it several times

Just click above and peruse a bit.

Not sure about your #375 - I'd have to look into that further.

But obviously #347 is going to create and/or retain jobs.

And as YAV has explained to you, there is nothing in #409 that says anything about sharing or making that information available. It is a proposal to move patient records from paper to electronic. Which, by the way, would create a lot of jobs.

here I'll do the work for you since finding it for yourself seems a bit difficult

I haven't had a bit of trouble finding the bill. But thanks.

But many of your posts have been disinformation, at best, and utter BS at worst, and I will continue to call you out on those as often as you do it.

obtaining information on every US citizen by 2014

Not their health conditions, not personal data that's any different than what the government gets now. Only information to make sure compliance and goals are reached. No violations of privacy.

You try and make it something it's not, even being so disingenuous as to try and link it to "tapping terrorists" Ironically, unintentionally you acknowledge how invasive and ubiquitous Bush's program was.

I only responded because your own post didn't even say what you concluded. You apparently are unable to make your case with your own copy and pastes. In fact, you defeat your own argument. Instead you come across as irrational and emotional.

BTW - page 249, HIPA Act from 1996 in full force.
page 250=253 details who has access, the use of the information, etc. It's pretty clear.

Sorry, not seeing anything like what you've alleged. Probably why you couldn't post anything to begin with that supports your contention.

Feel free to try again for the audience. I'm out of here.

I do encourage everyone to read what you've linked, however.

SanAntonio says But many of your posts have been disinformation, at best, and utter BS at worst.

Indeed.

OK well it's there in black and white and you don't see it...what can I say.

Disinformation with the attached bill? ok.....

This is the stimulus package of the world and I support it whole heartidly...I guess thats what I'm supposed to be saying.

You leave me speechless, but now I see where the perspective comes from...I don't understand the how, but I see the where.

Who said that?

I said that - I and another famous guy.

Hmmm

Well, how is it that Obama managed to raise nearly a billion dollars from 'non workers'? Those 'they're all on welfare' or 'don't want to work' prepositions are utterly laughable. Especially when you consider the fact that states with the highest percentage of citizens per capita on public assistance are in red states.

Who said that?

~BetelG

Just a guess but Spud thinks it was Dennis Moore from MPFC.

"Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore, riding through the glen.
Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore, without his merry men
He steals from the poor
And gives to the rich.
...stupid bitch."

Well, you put the comment in quotation marks, so you were quoting someone. Was it you or "another famous guy"?

"'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

"To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical."

OK - OK.. it was Jefferson. So surely now some lib will enlighten me as to his faults....

Great American-
That bears little resemblance to this: "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

Who stated what you originally quoted? It wasn't Jefferson.

BETELG: the source: www.brainyquote.com

Others-

"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes.
A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world."
Thomas Jefferson

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the
government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense
of taking care of them."
Thomas Jefferson

You're a ripe bag of gas, "conservative".

BTW, "Great American", I have yet to find this quote from Jefferson in any of your links:

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

BETELG: You've injured me gravely....so:

"An injured friend is the bitterest of foes.

A coward is much more exposed to quarrels than a man of spirit.

Be polite to all, but intimate with few."
Thomas Jefferson

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

Who cares who said it, it's true!

I suppose you want a new car and a house too?

BETELG: seriously, this link has a huge list of his quotes including:

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."
Thomas Jefferson

personally, I really don't give a rat's sphencter how PBHO pronounes pookimanistan.

but, BPHO is an American. primarily we speak english here--soft a's and everything.

so in english:
Pakistan [pak-uh-stan, pah-kuh-stahn]
noun
1.Islamic Republic of, a republic in S Asia, between India and Afghanistan: formerly part of British India; known as West Pakistan from 194771...

if he were speaking to pakis, then I'd understand -- ich bin ein berliner & all that. but, he wasn't.

maybe he learned this pronounciation while attending "a muslim" school in Indonesia while becoming worldly. and learning to recite the koran in arabic. and writing a paper on how he wantwd to beomce a president. (the quote is his from his book.)

now, back to this pork stuffed, political payback, POS bill...and hemhawing president. 1200 word response on the first question. I didn't hear an answer though. anyone find a transcript?

I do love watching him speak simply because you can see him thinking. I have never seen that in a President in my lifetime.

did you go weak in the knees? did it affect your ability to comprehend what his responses were?

have you ever instructed or taught anything specific? even teaching a child how to ride a bike will work for reference. when you know a subject well enough, you don't need to 'think' your way through a discussion about it. POSPOTUS either doesn't know the details of what he's pushing, doesn't understand it, or is lying--any of which is bad for u.s.

Gen. David Petraeus must have been a classmate of the President's then, since he also pronounces it "Pahkistan".

But I'm sure glad you're staying on top of these issues critical to the American people!

After watching millions of manufacturing jobs dissappear over the last 13 years, I have come to the conclusion that our politicians have become so corrupt that they will destroy America in order to feather their own nests.

Nafta and WTO have destroyed American Manufacturing. We have opened up our markets to free market competition whild holding our manufacturers to costly regulations, wage limits, high healthcare cost, Workers comp, and high income taxes.

There is no way for American manufacturers to compete under current rules. How about refunding to manufacturers cost related to government regulations. This may help keep jobs in America.

Another way would be to eliminate all taxes and go to a value added tax. Everything to be taxed from raw materials to stocks and bonds. Any time money is changed hands there would be a tax.

I doubt if our people in government have the guts to straighten this out.

But I'm sure glad you're staying on top of these issues critical to the American people!

thanks for noticing SAR! I allowed myself to be distracted by the previous arguments regarding the pronounciation. but you'll notice my last paragraph (the one you don't reference) basically saying 'this pookistan argument is a stupid tangent. how about this crappy bill?' I paraphrase...
