Chilly? It was 85 in Southern California up until Thursday.

surprised the fires managed to burn through all those glaciers caused by the new ice age. Must have been caused by some mavericky sunspot.

68 degrees and sunny in NC today, mid 70's forecast for Thursday.

Snowed last Monday, 26 degrees.

Perfectly normal for the coast.

That's why I live here.

Checking it out, there are some nice spots in North Carolina -- pretty beaches too.

My family lived off base in NC when my Dad was stationed at MCAS-Cherry Point. I was only about 6 years old so remember very little about it.

Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted.

It's 51 degrees now and in the low 40's the last two nights -- not to mention it's been pouring rain since Thursday night.

That's okay, though, 'cause we sure need the water.

Winter weather is crazy, isn't it?

It was cold 2 days ago, now 70 here the next few days.

I believe Australia is suffering from a severe drought. So is California, Texas and Georgia here.

Three years ago I went to Melbourne to meet an internet sweetheart, after two years of chatting finally made the plunge. As a word of advice, long distance romances don't always work.

Anyway, one of her favorite spots was Marysville, which burned down. If I had stuck with her, we likely would have lived there. I have a photo of the Yarra River which I use as a wallpaper. Beautiful place but no more.

They say that arsonists are fueling some of the fires.

Worst. Fire. EVAR.

That's wot they are calling it, shocking in terms of the Aussies considerable history of bad fires.

This morning it was being reported as "the worst fire in thirty years"

Then they found more bodies.

Still haven't found them all yet.

Spud appreciated the take of a man who had lost all his worldy goods to the blaze who Spud saw interviewed on CBC over lunch.

He sed, "That shit is replacable. My neighbour lost his entire family. They aren't replaceable. I really feel for him."

Strewth.

RIP to the dead, condolences to the surviving family memebers, best wishes to those who will have to rebuild practially from scratch and hope that the fire goes out soon.

Be Well.

Predicting record highs Tuesday for Detroit.

Friggin' new ice age.

Droughts in Argentina too

"...They say that arsonists are fueling some of the fires..."

Of course they are.
Arsonists are angry about the destruction
of our planet by way of global warming.

Don't blame the arsonist (blame corporate greed).

Truly a paradise lost.

Please tell me that this was a joke. Sarcasm sometimes isn't clear in print. Because after all, if you start a fucking fire, it is your fault. The Drudge Report is now saying that terrorists are doing it- or encouraging it and taking credit for it, leaving all of these Aussies to say WTF, mate?

Damn 166 dead now and the toll is still rising!!

I hope that the death tolls stop climbing soon. I feel for all those who lost someone. I also hope those dumb fucks who started this whole thing feel really damn guilty.

I took a look at the picture in your number #11. Beautiful picture you took, Dxlingr. It will probably take years to restore the Yarra River to anything like it used to be -- if ever.

I believe you're up near Santa Barbara, right? (I think you mentioned it during the last fires we had around here in CA.) Didn't realize you had been to Australia. They seem to have fires in Australia almost every year but this one -- in so many multiple areas and with such a high death toll -- is really bad.

But as Californians we both know how these wildfires can have a life and will all their own. I've learned to always give these wildfires the respect and fear they deserve. You can never take them for granted and think they're under control as they can flare up again in a minute. Remember the Oakland firestorm in 1991 when they thought a small fire had been put out but it flared back up again during the night and ended up burning down more than 3000 homes?

No I don't remember that one. I was living in Washington state at the time. The fire here in SB flared up after supposedly being put out. Darn kids. Not arson, but negligence.

I'm not surprised that some of the fires down under were arson. A lot of animosity regarding land grabs exists there.

Just heard now there are more than 400 fires.

Who's doing the land grabs?
The Australian government through some sort of eminent domain?
Or is it developers?

Rudd's Labor Party

The Australian Government treats Aborigines as dirt.

Not unlike what the U.S. did to the original occupants.

Hey I'm stoned....I mean what the U.S. did to the original occupants of North America.

There are people who will offer a brand new SUV with a full tank of gas to an Aboriginie in exchange for a patch of land.

There are people who will accept the offer.

So what you have in parts of Australia are relatively new SUVs sitting in the middle of nowhere out of gas because the locals didn't think about where to buy gas.

This is true.
