Six-year-old Gabriel Hurles peeled back the wrapping paper of an oversized birthday present to find the surprise of his young life -- his father, an Army mechanic back in Nevada on leave from his second tour in Iraq.

My Friday "feel-good" story.

My Friday "feel-good" story.

Well done.

I really do feel good from that, thanks.

That boy will always remember this birthday.

This part really got me:

Gabriel said he looks forward to playing with his dad over the next two weeks but understands why he has to leave again.

"He has to work," Gabriel said. "He works in the war."

Too precious.

Hopefully Dad will be home for good soon.

Happy Birthday Gabriel!!!

Your dad is a good man...

Happy Birthday Gabriel and safe travels to you and yours Casey

Awesome!
I'm stationed in South Korea now.
I've not seen my four kids since I left home last June.
Won't see them again until I get home this June.
Well, except for our voice-video chats on Yahoo IM. That's how we spend Christmas and Birthdays now-a-days.
I'll likely be leaving again next fall for Afghanistan.
Being recession-proof does have it's drawbacks.

Spooky - his daddy in a box...

I like this story.

Murphy like storrriee!

Why does his dad have to go back to Iraq? Obama promised that he was going to put up the white flag, surrender and pull all the troops out. I hope that we don't have to break the bad news to Gabriel that the president lied again. That would ruin this happy story.

"Obama promised that he was going to put up the white flag, surrender and pull all the troops out. "

Fat White Thom, reduced to bald-faced lies.

Oh, wait, that's his usual M.O....

This is the best drudge story ever. Its HAPPY!

prayers that he comes back safely for good.

that's mission accomplished

A present that would be desirable for all Americans and others? The return of all armed forces of all countries to their homes with honor and good health.

"Why does his dad have to go back to Iraq?"

Better question- Why did he have to go in the first place?
