Barbara and Jenna Bush, twins who were 19 when their father took office, wrote an open letter offered their best advice to Sasha and Malia Obama on living in the White House. The Bushes told the girls to relish it all -- to "go to anything and everything you possibly can."

Don't get busted drinking on a fake id?

Let the vulgar and piggish comments begin. After all, 726 never did anything stupid when he was 20.

Too bad Jenna is Married and way too young sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh

What a nice thing to do.

Holy crap, it must be snowing across the equatorial zones, I agree with Vernon on something. Jenna, despite some early setbacks has done some pretty good things with respect to education and African poverty.

Classy.

I HOPE that most liberals are decent people and it is only the ones that post garbage after reading an article like this that are nothing more than scumbags.

At minimum I hope that 726 just missed the great advice they gave at the end of the article, but after the display by the leftist douche-bags during the inauguration yesterday, I realize my hopes are more likely only fantasies.

Classy.

Indeed. Very sweet. We should all try our best to replicate such behavior in our own lives.

After what W imposed on the nation and the world, a few 'Boos' is but scant comupance.

Remember, he insulated his tender self from criticism by never allowing any but his sworn supporters to come within blocks of his public appearences for eight years.

He's owed more than a few jeers.

Dont expect the world to pretend that he is too high and mighty to hear the real editorial comment from which he hid.

The post man always rings twice.

On topic, props to the twins. Nice jesture.

Oldwhiskeysour (good drink by the way). Don't feign surprise and shock when Obama is treated the same way as Bush has been for the last eight years. The disrespect shown to the man and the office began prior to 9/11.

Should I call you a wahbulance Vernnie? How about a nice big wahburger?

Hey at least I didn't say their advice would be "don't get caught kissing another girl on camera".

Respect is earned, not given. He never earned any, therefore he was never given any.

On topic, aside from a few early mistakes I think the Bush daughters did quite a few great things. Young adults make foolish mistakes regardless of who's kids they are and what position their parents are in. That's just what young people do.

It was very nice of them to offer suggestions for the incoming Obama kids.

Dfiant. He earned the respect when he took the oath od office.

the media has no class. They are like lawyers that listen to scanners and chase ambulances

What advice?

Don't do Quaaludes with shooters?

Sheesh!

Libs like 726 have no class. The only reason the rest of the lefties on DR don't attack the Bush twins like they did to Palin's family is that they think they have some political advantage now. Libs don't even respect themselves.

DFIANT - By that logic, Obama has not yet earned the respect of office, yet I show him the respect the office deserves.

That comment doesn't hold water.

No, Bush was smart enough not to bring his kids into the political arena.

The respect which the office carries is not a "no matter what you do, we will blindly follow and love you" thing.

The 'respect for the office' thing seemed to end the day Clinton came in, if you will recall; And I mean well before the Minica story. That's when the 'gotcha politics' started too, Brent.

You have either a short or a selective memory.

If Obama makes bone headed Ginormous, world threatening blunders like those that W made, you and I will be standing shoulder to shoulder in our disaproval.

And another thing girls, "No 'booty dancin' in the Whitey House".

OLDWHISKEYSOUR - the 'respect for the office' thing was lost long before Clinton, but with Bush the fervor reached a new pitch.

As I said before, Bush was attacked and disdained from day one, don't hide behind his more recent slips into liberalism.

To that end, so far Obama's actions have been more conservative than W's. Let us see if that lasts.

Bush at one point had close to a 90% approval rating, if not over 90. (can't remember)

He was given plenty of respect until he started chain-fucking-up everything he tried to do.

Brent, if you will recall, W had huge support immediately following 9/11.
I myself wrote to all my friends and encouraged them to give him all the support they could. I got into heated debates on the golf course with my buddies about it.
I concluded that it was a time to be 4 square united against the enemy.
Then, W forgot who attacked us. He bull shitted his way to the Iraq war and lost the national and international support he dearly needed.

He had no plan to win, or plan to leave.

"There will be no casualties" he told Pat Robertson.

WMDs became a marketing campaign like KFC. Mushroom Clouds! "He tried to kill my daddy", etc.

You remember doncha?

He wrapped up all the rightwing agenda into a ball and told us that if he didnt get his way, the terrorists win.

If you disagreed, he and the rightwing media told us we hate America.

Any of that ring a bell?

"Bush Twins Offer Advice for Sasha, Malia"

YEAH!

Except they neglected to take into account that advising pre-teens that "Panties are Optional" and that "Beer Before Liquor, will make you Sicker" is inappropriate outside of Bush World!

Brent,
Prior to Clinton came Bush41. Before that was Carter. Before that Reagan. Who amoung them got the Rodney Dangerfield treatment?

Nothing against Hanni and Nanni's letter. It's fine. Kudos to them.

but this:

attitude demonstrates the real mentality cursing through the American political cliques. Fuck the country (and the world), the only thing that matters is making sure that the "other guy's guys" look bad.

So, when do you and the rest of the chimpanzees start hurling the feces, Brent?

George W Bush SQUANDERED the support that he had. He EARNED every bit of vitriol ever hurled his way.

Speaking of my own dislike of the man, if he had at least been open and honest with us, if he had taken part in press conferences that were not staged and stocked with paid-for supporters, had not insulated himself from opposition, had maybe vetoed a few things BEFORE the Dems took over Congress... well, I would have still said horrible things about many of his decisions, but at the same time maintained my respect for him as a man.

But that "man" turned out to be void of all qualities we'd like to associate with presidents. He sucked in every respect.

And now, people like Brent and all the loser Rightthugs on this website think "turnaround is fairplay". They refuse to revisit the failings of their party boss. They're answer to even the most well-reasoned criticism is to hold their hands over their ears and sing God Bless America off-key at the top of their lungs. They're not even going to give Obama a chance. In fact, they're going to actively look for ways to capsize anything he suggests, because they truly do not give a fuck about the fate of the nation, or the world.

they're = their, of course...

Well said Bella.

Since BELLASPAPA can't read, I'll repost my earlier post:

Care to hurl more insults? I much prefer you make my points for me.

Did I insult you Brent?
Care to address my posts?

Not at all OLDWHISKEYSOUR, you won't find me or many others defending a lot of Bush's actions. My argument ends at how disgusting I found his treatment yesterday.

The best advice they could give them would be, "Expect to be treated like trash by the right wing media for simply being alive. Go ask Chelsea Clinton if you need more details."

"And now, people like Brent and all the loser Rightthugs on this website think "turnaround is fairplay" They refuse to revisit the failings of their party boss. Where did you get that from? All the post says is don't be surprised if people eventually treat President Obama the same way President Bush was eventually treated...economy's in the tank...plenty of wars abounds...and we are a nation that demands instant gratification and satisfaction. Instant coffee syndrome. I'm surprised that people aren't opening up their checkbooks today and screaming that Obama's failed because his first 6 hours of office hasn't balanced their finances. Actually if you read Brent's posts they're calling for a respect for the office for Bush as well as Obama...

Both sides are guilty of what you're complaining about. Just as some wingnuts won't listen to arguments against Bush...some others scream bloody murder the second you criticize any of Obama's positions and ideas. I'm not saying that there are not people here and else where who are praying for a failure of his presidency...but that doesn't make every right leaning person a "thug" or self destructive loon, bent on cutting off the nation's nose to spite its face. Just like not every left leaning individual isn't some crazed commie hell bent on giving away your money and burning an American flag. Stop with the partisan knee jerk responses to situations where they don't even apply

Onion, you're making me cry! :-)
Well said.

Never happened according to the right wing revisionist history manual.

That and they caught Saddam with his finger on the button that would unleash a thousand nukular bioweapon ICBMs directly at the USA.

726 - In all fairness, I think both sides have been pretty damn good about not going after the kids, at least while they were minors. There were a few instances, but nothing widespread that couldn't be contributed to a jab by a satirist or blogger.

I'm 31 years old, so I may have missed something obvious about Chelsea, but a link would help that argument hold water.

Lack of a sense of humor from the rightwing posters on this thread aside, this was a nice thing for the Bush twins to do.

The conservatives left Chelsea alone for the most part. Sorry but the fact is that they weren't following chelsea around Stanford like the libbies followed the twins around

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh compared 13-year-old Chelsea to a dog:

On November 6, 1992, three days after her father won the elections, when Chelsea was still in braces, Rush Limbaugh said the following on his television show: 'Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat; Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?' He then pointed to a video monitor, which switched to a picture of Chelsea. Limbaugh has claimed that it was a technical error, despite the fact that the show was taped in advance of its broadcast, giving Limbaugh ample time to fix the 'error.'

Sorry Brent, 726 beat me to it.

726 - reprehensible indeed, but in defense of my earlier argument, Rush is just a radio pundit. The mainstream media has been hands off.

The mainstream media has been hands off.

Eh, maybe.

"Let the vulgar and piggish comments begin."

I didn't know about these nicknames. Which Bush twin is Vulgar and which one is Piggish?

Sully, you have to hide the hook when you dangle a worm.

They turned out to be FINE young ladies. I wish I would have went to college with them. i can only imagine the good times I could have had.

Which Bush twin is Vulgar and which one is Piggish?

Vulgar's the one on the right and Piggish is on the left.

Be Well.

"Sully, you have to hide the hook when you dangle a worm."

Yeah, I botched that pretty bad.

John McCain at a Republican Senate fund-raiser about Chelsey Clinton -
"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because her father is Janet Reno."

Not just Lush Rimjob but the old Maverick as well.

SILENCE - McCain is a senile old man, you're supposed to politely ignore them when they make obscene or offensive comments.

For those of you with selective memories, the Bush girls were notorious hell-raisers until someone (Pickles, most likely) pulled them aside and reminded them that their father was now the President of the United States and that when photos of them raging drunk and flashing their nethers on street curbs start circulating, the terrorists (and even worse, the liberals) win.

Ok, I'm having a little fun at their expense, but I remember when both of them suddenly disappeared for a while and then resurfaced all demure and looking like bible scholars at Liberty College.

The First Kids are off limits.

"the Bush girls"

They were adults when their dad took office. Obama's daughters are children.

That means that these comparisons are complete nonsense.

Only very sick people think you treat kids the same way you do adults.

Remember girls, the Secret Service guys can get the best weed and blow.

Sincerely,

The Bush Bimbos.

HILLBILLYDELUXE- I think the last thing a Bush needs is advice on where to get some good blow.

Like the man said, Sully. You've got to hide the hook better. Comparisons? Man...you've got to upgrade your brand of crack. You're turning into Goatman.

"Rush is just a radio pundit."

YEAH!

Today he is Just "just a radio pundit", last week he was described here as the epitome of a "conservative".

But whats REALLY funny is that you don't Consider Rush part of the "mainstream media"! Like as if he was broadcasting from a ship offshore and didn't follow the commercial MSM format of Selling Advertisement.
I mean, you really have to disconnect yourself from reality to convince yourself Hannity, Limbaugh and co are somehow not part of the very MSM you rail about!

Where did you get that from? All the post says is don't be surprised if people eventually treat President Obama the same way President Bush was eventually treated...

........Just as some wingnuts won't listen to arguments against Bush...some others scream bloody murder the second you criticize any of Obama's positions and ideas.

I agree with you, onion, that it's a two-way street. I hope Dems/liberals will have the wherewithal to call Obama on any boneheaded decisions he makes. They need to walk the walk after lambasting the Repubs/cons about precisely the same thing.

Regarding the other part, you added the word "eventually", that's not what Brent wrote. I read his post to mean, "Get ready for the payback", not, "Expect Obama to be held to the same standards that W was".

Reading through his other posts, I'm happy to agree that maybe Brent doesn't belong in the group he illustrated in his post. Perhaps Brent isn't a chimpanzee after all. But, just take a look at the thread about O's freezing White House wages to see evidence of what I was talking about. Bring your feces shield. ook ook ook.

The phony magnanimity of 726 and other lefties makes me want to throw up.

"Like the man said, Sully. You've got to hide the hook better."

He was talking about how I messed up my "Vulgar and Piggish" joke.

"Comparisons? Man...you've got to upgrade your brand of crack. You're turning into Goatman."

Heh? I was talking about how it isn't right to compare how the Bush daughters, who were adults when their dad took office, were treated compared to the how Obama's daughters might be treated because the Obama girls are children.

That children and adults need to be treated differently isn't an opinion that is unique to Goatman and me.

REDNECKVILLE - Its all perspective. I don't consider Rush MSM in the sense that he is selling an opinion not branded as news. When someone tunes into the guy, they know (or at least should know) that they are dialing in for three hours of someone spouting off opinion. His leaning to the left or right doesn't come into play on whether or not he is MSM.

As for Hannity I would argue the same. I think most in here would agree that if the show is named after the guy ranting, it isn't news...hell, I would go so far as to say that if the show even has a name it isn't news.

No one else was trying to compare them either, but that didn't stop you from attempting to insinuate it. That's what I meant by hiding the hook better.

The Obama children are off limits. That plain enough for you? The Bush daughters showed some real class by passing their 8 years experience of living under the gun of constant media scrutiny on to Malia and Sasha and at the same time tried to impress on them to savor every moment they can in what has to be the experience of a lifetime. If there's any comparisons to be made, it would be how the Bush daughters behaved when their father was first elected in 2000, and how they've matured over the years.

DUTCH46 - I'm a pretty hardcore conservative and I have to jump in here. The only unfavorable mainstream media coverage I have seen of the Bush twins has been when one of them has brought it on themselves, say by doing something stupid like acting like a college kid when they were college kids. That comes with the territory to some extent. Again, that is other than the occasional jibe from a satirist, but when your job is to walk the line it is going to occasionally be crossed.

I think we would be hard pressed to find an article from The Grey Lady or another perceived liberal institution that crossed the same line. If I'm wrong, throw up a link. I was wrong about Chelsea.

"No one else was trying to compare them either, but that didn't stop you from attempting to insinuate it. That's what I meant by hiding the hook better."

Huh? The only comparison I made between the two sets of girls concerned their ages.

I haven't insinuated anything. I did blatantly call the Bush girls "Vulgar and Piggish" in an unrelated post. It was a joke. I ruined it by giving away the punchline. There's nothing to hide there. I'm not sorry, I don't apologize and I don't give a shit who was offended. It was a joke about two very priviledged adults.

I think we would be hard pressed to find an article from The Grey Lady or another perceived liberal institution that crossed the same line. If I'm wrong, throw up a link. I was wrong about Chelsea.

Ooops, I read Brentrice's post incorrectly.

Do the twins know the places to hide the liquor bottles?

John McCain at a Republican Senate fund-raiser about Chelsey Clinton -
"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because her father is Janet Reno."

I find nothing wrong with this. Chelsea is quite ugly, especially for a NYer.

A little sidenote. Chelsea works for a hedge fund as an analyst. It is kind of amusing why the NY times didn't call Hitlery out on this. while she was demonizing hedge funds, her daughter worked at one

What, your gag reflex not as good as it used to be Fey Woman-like Thommy?

just go, trick-or-treat, cherish your pets, slide down the banister... does the true spirit of this open letter comprise these gems?

or was it really, "He is our father, not the sketch in the paper or part of a skit on TV"?

Sorry, Sully. I couldn't filter through what you were on about with the "sick people" comment as you neglected to annotate the list of suspects making those comparisons. If I misinterpreted that it was pointed in my direction, again...my apologies.

Some of you really do have to show more effort in articulating your positions more concisely.

The conservatives left Chelsea alone for the most part. Sorry but the fact is that they weren't following chelsea around Stanford like the libbies followed the twins around

That's because the twins are way better looking than Chelsea was. I'm not saying it's fair, just true.

Yeah! But lets look deeper than the skin. Chelsey is a very intelligent woman, and I believe she is very beautiful. But, you like the plastic Botox Barbies and chain smoking Laura Bush and her chain smoking daughters.

If you're waiting around on the Hollywood loving, "who are you wearing?" media to care about substance that's going to be a long wait & who said anything about liking or disliking either? I'm merely saying that for women it is the deciding factor on the "how" the "what" may be reported.

Remember girls, the Secret Service guys can get the best weed and blow. Or axe your dad he still has his connections from when he was a community activists/crack dealer. It's all in his book that he had someone elese write for him and he put his name on.

When you get older and want to ho around, checkout out his friends like P ditty and and Snoop dog they are the best a degrading women and getting you some crack just like your daddy did for your momma. You can make some good money!!!Make your mamma proud to be your an american.
