The right have deliberately overstated the threat of terrorism in order to keep morons like you from questioning their actions like a real citizen of true democracy should do.
Terrorism is the inevitable successor to the Cold War rationale as an excuse for the MIC to encourage the US government to wage perpetual war with impunity.

Terrorism, although a real albeit deliberately overstated threat, is NOT worth spending your tax dollars (more than was spent on WWII in adjusted dollars) on an unwinnable war that only enrichens War Profiteering assholes like Dick Cheney and ultimately weakens America on several levels.
Al Quaeda have only struck the US four times.
Out of those 4 strikes only 2 were on US soil.
The first and second WTC strikes, the Embassies in Africa and the USS Cole.
To a certain extent you cannot protect yerself from an committed terrorist group. Ergo, if Al Quada or any other religious extremist group really wants to hit America it can happen at any time.
If you allow a fear of terrorism to turn you into something that is the antithesis of what America properly stands for then the terrorists WIN and you FAIL.
Pretending to be able to provide complete security is a ruse from the right. It aint possible but under that rationale they've managed to utilise the fear state they've created in order to abandon many of America's long standing principles which have in turn only made the terrorist threat greater than it was before their efforts began.
This is not incompetance as much as it is a deliberate attempt to fear-monger in order to war-monger with impunity.

To sum up.
Bush was the guy who allowed 9/11 to occur on his watch and his shame for having done so is much greater than any possible kudos he should garner from "keeping America safe" which he not only has not done in any provable way (the fact that AQ hasn't made another strike is just indicative of the fact that they haven't really tried not any "success" on the part of BushCo) but he can arguably be sed to have made America less safe, weaker, less respected, less feared, more hated, while simultaneously empowering the extremists with his actions (and inactions) in the ME.
And fer the record, No, Spud does not expect you to really get any of the above. Spud is speaking over yer head to the rest of blogworld mostly but does have a tiny hope that one day Spud's words will break through yer thick skull and take root.
