From a 49ers fan...Go Cardinals (LOVE THE UNDERDOG)!!!!!

Pittsburgh is going to play the Cardinals next.

To quote from last November:

"Hey, my Cardinals kept up with the Giants.

That's as close as they'll get to the Super Bowl.

The captain that directs their ship just so happens to have a big fat diamond SB ring on one of his fingers. Don't count 'em out just yet.

True that, clearly the Ravens are in for an ass kicking. Even after that horrendous call on the goal line.

Cardinals Advance to Super Bowl?

What about the Bishops? Don't they deserve a shot at all that virgin butt sex?
Or is that reserved for priests and cardinals?

The Cardinals in the Super Bowl? That headline must be from the Onion.

as one who has lived in phoenix much longer than the cardinals have, i've called around and wished those who've been supportive of the team from the beginning all along the best.
never having been a fan, this team has been an embarrassment. losing season after losing season while remaining under the salary cap whenever possible. hiring inept coaches ie: joe bugle & buddy ryan... while seemingly not caring the least about being represented by a quality product on the field.
but things have changed as they now have whisenhunt and, i assume, bill bidwell's son has become more involved in the day to day maneuvers.

tis all more than a little amazing.
i now expect the apocalypse.

frogs will rain from the sky.
darkness will cover the day and the cardinals are going to the super bowl.
hell has indeed frozen over.
simply amazing.
i tip my hat to them... particularly warner.

all the best.

A black President and the Cardinals in the Super Bowl, 2 things I think many never thought they would live to see.

I grew up in St. Louis, and lived through the "Cardiac Cardinals". A black President is no surprise, by comparison.

Cardinals advance to the Super Bowl?

OH NOEZ!

Isn't that one of the signs of the Apocalypse?

It's the Bible, thinks Spud.

Somewhere in the back.

Actually, considering the fact that they are actually a baseball team that's really quite impressive.

Half seriously?

If the Cards can keep it in the air they got an even chance. Kept to their ground game they aint got a prayer.

/Even if the game is a total blowout Bruce Springsteen playing the half-time gig will make up fer it.

Be Well.

Cardinals advance to the Super Bowl?

The bad news is Pittsburgh is too

Wot's wrong with Pittsburgh?

/Not the whole list just the top one hundred.

//Spud aint got all night you know.

Ever wonder where the derogatory term "the pits" came from?

^_^

Fired up! Fired up! Fired up!

Here we go Steelers! Here we go!

Fired up! Fired up! Fired up!

Here we go Steelers! Here we go!

Spot the Gal from Pittsburgh in this postage.

That's mighty partisan of ya, Gal.

Wotever happened to "may the best team win" Hmmm?

^_^

Be Well.

Goooooooooooooooooo Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelers!!!!!! Wow, no surprise since they rock!

Hi Spud,

The Mighty Partisan, that's me! LOL Nah, I'm just happy. :-)

Root black and gold or turn black and blue, that's our motto. Nah, not really. I said a prayer for the downed Raven player. Lewis, I think his name is? Damn, don't like to see anyone get seriously injured. No, not even a Raven player and not even after the Ravens took out bounties on three Steeler players back in December when they last played.

Hi Spud,

Howdy Gal.

The Mighty Partisan, that's me!

As the Commodores once sang...

"She's Mighty Mighty, just letting it all hang out!"

LOL Nah, I'm just happy. :-)

Happy is good! Spud's feeling happy/goofy tonight too.

I said a prayer for the downed Raven player. Lewis, I think his name is? Damn, don't like to see anyone get seriously injured. No, not even a Raven player...

Yes, is always a bummer when anyone gets seriously hurt playing a game.

Will he play again?

"Quoth the Ravens 'Nevermore'"

Spud keeds. Hopefully he's up and at 'em next season.

Take care, enjoy the game.

Be Well.

/Outtie again, mebbe back later
stage left.

The mothereffen Cards! I'm a Giants fan since Spider Lockart plied his trade, but I've always had a soft spot for the hapless birds. As much as the supremely talented Kurt Warner annoys me with his 38 "praise God"'s per nano-second, I'm rooting for him. And how can you not love Larry Fitzgerald? The guy is classy and one exciting receiver. So although I like Tomlin and the whole Steeler's crew and mythos -- GO RED BIRDS!

Kurt Warner vs Big Ben. Ya gotta like that match-up.

Well, there was already a landslide defeat for 'something' else from Arizona.

I predict a second.

Thanks KG!

Ya'all keep counting the Cards out.

YYYYEEEEHHHAAAAWWWW!!!

Are these really the two best teams in the NFL?

I am going to be laughing so very, very hard at my coworkers today...

//TOLD THEM that the Iggels would choke at crunch time....

Go ahead and laugh, the eagles ended the cowboys and the giants season. We got beat by a better team. No Eagles fans said we were unstoppable.

Wot's wrong with Pittsburgh?

Any prediction on when the Cubbies will get to the World Series?

Polamalu vs.the Cards based on last night's game. #43 sure seemed to be doing everything.

When I get accepted to play College football somewheres. LMAO

Larry

Arizona fans better hope that they don't use the same crew of officials that they had when the steelers beat the seahawks a few years ago. It's hard enough to beat a team without the refs helping them!

Go Cards!

"When a gay armadillo is elected President."

I thought George W. Bush was from Crawford, not Amarillo.

What's that? Armadillo, not Amarillo?

Never mind.

Hans

Larry,

I have a hilarious email to share, but I want it to be private.

I'll nudge you on the DR.

I capisce JeffJ

Should be a great match-up.

Both quarterbacks have won the SB before.

Hubby is loving AZ --

I lean toward the Steelers--loved them when Bradshaw was winning year after year.

You come on down to the 'burg and I'll show you a very classy city.

So classy they boo their own players whilst holding a lead in the third quarter....TWICE! A 'class-less' city usually waits until the end of the game, huh?
And chanting "bullshit" after watching a pass interference call that was right as rain? Do they not understand the rules or is this more of that "class" I keep hearing about?

I just wish they would trade Ward and Pollyanna (preferably to my team) so I wouldn't feel so bad about getting all lathered up in hating everything about that city, it's fat ass "fans", and their cowardly game plans.

They say Defense wins championships, I wouldn't know, I'm usually asleep when they do. When your most important offensive player is a free safety, and your second most important offensive player is the punter; you play anti-football. I'd rather my team lose than punt 15 times a game, waste time at every opportunity, run the play clock down to 1 before every snap, and run the ball on 3rd and 14.

Only in the NFL can the #22 scoring team in the league be the "champions".

Nice to see you R8. It's been a long time.

The reason they booed Limas Sweed was because of his history this season of dropping easy catches. To drop an easy sure TD pass in a very close AFC championship game would surely draw a boo or two from the Bronco's faithful. Again nice to see ya.

I know why they booed him. I'm just not sure as to how they can do that (and boo the punter) then call themselves "classy".....
Sweed didn't seem too bothered by it all as he TONKED some dude on a block a few plays later.

would surely draw a boo or two from the Bronco's faithful

Doubtful, since the new stadium was built most seats at MH are now occupied by wine-sippin know-nothings. They don't care enough to boo most days. However, I've never claimed my mates to be "classy" above others, so what they do is on them. But of the 60 or so gamnes I've seen in person we never booed our own team while winning the game, ever. Trust me, no one h8s Bronco fans more than me right now. 'Our' treatment of Shanny was downright embarrassing.

...and welcome back

However, I've never claimed my mates to be "classy" above others, so what they do is on them.

Thanks for the welcome R8. I was really just teasing my friend the Deth Spud. What I meant to say was the city is more classy than people think of it. I wasn't really talking about the fans.

"They say Defense wins championships"

My favorite urban myth. This statement seems to be attributed to Vince Lombardi. It is ironic that during th 1960s, when the Packers won their championships, their team was consistently in the top three in the league in points scored.

"I'll gladly take a stifling defense ..."

I prefer a 49ers Montana or Young team, an Elway Denver team, a Manning Colts team, a Staubach Cowboys team. When the Steelers, with arguably the best defense in NFL history, defeated the Cowboys in 1979, they had to score 35 points to do it. Luckily they had Bradshaw, Harris, etc.

I have notice when your Pats won it was because of Brady. They lost last year because of his injury.

In baseball, I notice when the Yanks were world beaters they had Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, etc. Pretty much never overpowering pitching.

But, preference is preference. Though it doesn't prove the urban myth.

Gal, it was Willis McGahee who went down in the game. I haven't heard what his status is. Time to go check nfl.com .

"or Steelers you think defense. "

No, you think of refs.
After all for a team who's colors are black and yellow they have an awful lot of black and white playing for them.

"Offense generates headlines."

And exciting play. Defense can also do both. Interesting that defense gets the credit for winning championships though, per the urban legend.

"I think great teams are strong on both sides of the ball."

Too bad that isn't mentioned more often. But I do remember quite a few NFL winning teams which had great offenses and average defenses. I also remember the many years Reggie White played for the Eagles and led them to the league's best (or close to it) defense. Yet the Eagles couldn't get to the playoffs.

Over the years I've become convinced that the hyperbole re the effect of defense has been generated by coaches. It's a lot easier for them to teach defense and easier to claim credit for success. My experience in coaching is that teaching offense is harder.

Interesting that of the top 5 regular season offensive leaders only #4 Arizona made it to the playoffs while of the top 5 of Defenses, only #4 Washington did NOT make the playoffs.

Friends? We is. We is.

Spud just couldn't resist a slight jab there.

In fact Spud'll be rooting fer the Steelers on game day.

This has less to with the Cards being from the same place John McCain comes from and more to do with the fact that Mitch Berger, yer kicker, is a BC Boy from North Delta by way of Kamloops.

/Yes, the same Berger who duffed that punt in the final game there.

//Don't worry he won't make that mistake again on SB day.

You come on down to the 'burg and I'll show you a very classy city.

Any city wot can produce two such class acts as yerself and Gal Tuesday must be a classy city by Spud's lights.

Oh yea......... GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!

Agreed. GO STEELERS!!1!1!ELEVENTY!1!

Any prediction on when the Cubbies will get to the World Series?

~Doc Sarvis

Spud was originally gonna say "When pigs fly" but they've made so many advances in bio-tech recently that Spud decided against it.

Maybe when FuckWit Thom wins a Nobel prize fer Literature?

Be Well.

Mitch Berger has had a rough year Spud. I myself believe he is still injured. We lost our starting punter in training camp with a torn ACL and picked up Mitch after Edginger(sp) proved useless. He then sprained his hamstrings. However he did average about 43 yards a punt last night. Not too shabby after the bad one! LOL

I understand that the Cardinals team is composed mostly of players that were rejected by other teams. Therefore, I will be rooting for the Cardinals. Besides, Cardinals are red in color, and so is the State of Arizona. Steel of course being a metal, is a neutral color. But Pennsylvania is of course a blue state. I hope I am forgiven for injecting a little bit of politics here. Sorry Rush, but I cannot be on your side on this one. It is hard to believe it, but it appears that Rush is on the side of a blue state. What can I say? But that politics and football make strange bedfellows. All in fun of course.

I'll be interested to see how Arizona handles the Steelers plays. Their head coach was our O coordinator so he has a very good idea of both the Steelers O and D!

Edginger? Think yer thinking of Paul Ernster.

Spud had to look it up.

Berger gots his own wikipage.

Berger attended North Delta High School in Delta, British Columbia and was a letterman in football and basketball. In football, as a senior, he won All-Provincial honors as both, a kicker and as a punter, and was also the team's starting quarterback. In basketball, he won All-Provincial Honors. Mitch Berger graduated from North Delta High School in 1990.

Berger attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas and won honorable mention All-American honors as a sophomore. He finished his college career by transferring to Colorado.

Berger was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers after an injury to punter Daniel Sepulveda to compete with signing Paul Ernster. Berger won the job as Ernster was released on August 30 during final cuts. After experiencing hamstring problems, Berger was released by the Steelers on November 5 and the team re-signed Ernster. Following three poor performances by Ernster, Berger was re-signed by the Steelers on November 24. Berger has developed into a great tackling punter, as he already has 5 tackles in the 2008 season. He has two key touchdown saving tackles.

Where the fuck is Tyler, Texas?

Near Tippecanoe, Texas?

Be Well.

Edginger? Think yer thinking of Paul Ernster.

That's him!! Guess he didn't make too good an impression on me. LOL

Where the fuck is Tyler, Texas?

Near Tippecanoe, Texas?

LMAO Spud!

Boldin is a pussy and will bring the Cardinals down.

Go big red.

I grew up in Illinois as a Cardinals fan.

I was already in Phoenix before they got here.

It's been 45 painful years.

If they can pull it off, i'll finally give old man Bidwill a break.

"But I think it's defense which makes teams consistently, uh, consistent."

the truly great teams had the complete package. they could move the ball and prevent the other team from doing just that.
bradshaw's steelers had an offense and montana's niners had a great defense. the patriots in recent years have something akin to that though they never blew anyone out in the superbowl... all of those were competitive. that isn't to take away from them anything they've achieved but they didn't dominate the superbowls the way that the niners, steelers and kahboys did. everyone knew going in pretty much what to expect.

and after a day of trying to get use to the idea of the marginals, as we've called them here in phoenix, going to the big game. i looked out the window first thing this morning to see if there were flying pigs or perhaps armageddon was upon us but tis all somewhat normal.
tis weird!
i've still a roll of bill bidwell toilet paper from 1989 that i was once going to sell on ebay when the time was right. i don't know that it is but i should look to see. there are still anti-bird people here in phx.

all the best

Sense, i read a letter to the editor in the Republic today that said he saw a flock of flying pigs.

www.azcentral.com

I just dreamed about them

tis all the talk here in phx.
and very damned odd, still...
a sea of red bird shirts and hats are everywhere... all of a sudden, btw.

i'm really wondering that the big birds don't have a chance if winning this game. this is a very good offense though, as stated above, they should be good on defense as well.
pitt isn't an offensive juggernaut... particularly by comparison.
on any given day...
i don't see a blowout.

i'll wager a cold german beer on the birds and take the points. i believe it's 6 and a half.

all the best.

I'm definately taking the points.

I BELIEVE.

It's our destinty.

i'll wager a cold german beer on the birds and take the points. i believe it's 6 and a half.

~Sense.

A beer is a terrible thing to waste.

Steelers will win by 9+ points.

Spud has spoken!

Be Well.

Steelers 31, Cardinals 20

Cardinals 17 Steelers 10. Warner is back.

Don't sell the Steelers offense short. We put up 16 points on a VERY good Ravens defense despite shooting ourselves in the foot several times. We left a lot of points on the field. If we can play error free football(And I know that's a big if) this game could be ugly.

"When a gay armadillo is elected President."

That will happen before the Cubs win the WS.

"Steelers will win by 9+ points.

Spud has spoken!"

Only if the Cards get food poisoning at the pre game meal.

34-27 Cards.

It's our year.

34-27 Cards.

It's our year.

~Babuenthal

If the rest of team sleeps in and only the Steelers kicker shows up?

Then yer prediction might come true.

34-24 Steelers.

Bye bye Birdie.

You can't hold back the Gold and the Black.

GO STEEEEEEEEELERS!!!

Be Well.

Spud: The Cards will make it seem like the Steelers are sleeping.

Destiny.

Spud: The Cards will make it seem like the Steelers are sleeping.

Destiny.

~Babuenthal.

Imagine a wee bird flying full force into a six inch thick slab of stainless STEEL and then plummetting to the ground below.

It'll be like that... only uglier.

Yer "Destiny" will have to ride again next year.

Phoenix is for the birds.

/Spud knows this cos a lot of Spud's relatives is snowbirds who migrate south during the long cold Canadian winters.

Be Well.

Spud.

Ever see the movie "The Birds"?

The steelers are Tipi Hedren and the townfolk.
