Maureen Dowd: George W. Bush decided long ago to be a president representing just his base. His decisions have been, for the most part, disastrous. If he'd paid as much attention to facts as fitness, 9/11, Iraq, the drowning of New Orleans, the deterioration in Afghanistan and the financial deregulation orgy could have been prevented. It is relief to be getting a president determined to represent the whole country.

OUCH!

So true!

I wonder if anyone compiled the number of times bush or a bush stoodge mentioned "The Base" (ie the american Al Qieda)!

W didn't ask his dad for advice, because he wanted unconditional love instead? Couldn't Laura have given him that? Or his dog (If you want a friend in DC. . .)?

Much has been made of the surge, as if it changed everything in Iraq. But none of the refugees have gone home for a reason. Those lucky enough to get out have stayed out.

Shrub's failures are consistent with a personality completely indifference to human suffering, and blindly obedient to the free market propaganda put out by the big fish that constitute his base.

Shrub leaves our nation much worse than the day SCOTUS rewrote election laws, and spinmeisters blame Clinton? Hillary's "vaste right wing conspiracy" still has a stranglehold, even with Obama in charge.

#3) "Nutcase" lives up to his handle.

Not as lame as bankrupt NY Times long good bye.

Time to close the doors.

Some would compare an outgoing administration with a newspaper - pretty feeble attempt to put a better spin on the Bush legacy.

Now Sit...Mr. Sux evidently doesn't need to read a paper (or anything else for that matter) to be informed. It sounds to me like the ghosts of Joe McCarthy, Nixon and Reagan are visiting the lad every night, rattling their chains and filling his empty head with tales of how things never were.

Seeing the shape our county is in, I think you do know this Jack person.

help the girl out Snipe-send her your emails about how Billa nd hillary used to go Marine hunting from Marine One while he was on death row, waiting for Carter's pardon. Anybody how voted for Bush knows a lot about shit. Just not how to diferentiate it from shinola.

According to Freudian and neo-Freudian personality theory, a boy should receive and reciprocate unconditional love from the mother, whereas the father should serve as a role model and corrector of unacceptable behavior. The oedipal competition arises between the child and the father for the affection of the mother. This competition is seen as a useful driver of the boy's early achievement, until puberty when his desire is directed outward to the females in his peer group.

The fact that 43 looks to 41 for unconditional love says that his mother is someone else for him than the provider of loving acceptance.

Personality theory also says that the typical sociopathic individual has a mother who is seductive, that is, one who alternately gives and withholds her affection based on criteria the child cannot understand.

W's statement about his father seems to indicate the possibility of such a pathology.

So, the bottom line is that it is Bab's fault the country is in such a mess.

Silver,
Thanks Professor. You can take off the gown and mortarboard now. Larry, Curly and Moe need them for their upcoming visit to the girls' college.

We could devote a thread to this question and it should stay up for weeks, but ...

Does the man create the times, the people, or is the man a result of the times/people?

I could bad-mouth Dumbya all day - with the best of 'em - but our targets ought to be the idiots (I know they were a minority both times) who voted this clown into office. Why did they? Did they learn anything? Would they do it again? How can they make it up to us now? herm

Silver...it would also help to explain the episodes of naked narcisissim. Incurvatus in se ipsum.

Herm they are brain dead cretins who think swagger means competence. They would vote for Him again even knowing how bad He is. Our very own JeffJ said so just a year and half ago. What does THAT tell You?? They be some crazy fools that is for certain.

Larry

"but our targets ought to be the idiots (I know they were a minority both times) who voted this clown into office."

"Why did they?

Yo no comprendo.

Did they learn anything?

Probably not.

Would they do it again?

Most likely, in a nanosecond.

How can they make it up to us now?

Dowd--the long, lame, boring, tirade of someone who is about to lose her job--if we are all so lucky to see the NYT go into the dust.

Speaking of "dust," how's your love life?

Hans

Instead of porn, libs jack off to photos of Bush and Cheney. Hans says he has an excellent collection of neocon photos that he downloaded.

If you could only set that to music, who know, you might amount to something.

"knkow" = knows...but, in Murphy's case, it doesn't matter

Ah the razor wit of McAnkles.

The Cobra has been through two Bushes and a Clinton skewering them all when deserved.

Don't worry McA you'll be a reluctant big fan of each when they're disagreeing with Obama.

GWB may be going away everywhere else but, he will long live here on DR.
Just like Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan...legendary.

It will be interesting to see if Obama does any better. So far, many of the decisions he has made indicate that he will be closer to Bush's third term than any real change. For those who are happy to see Bush leave "Meet the new boss same as the old boss"...

"So far, many of the decisions he has made indicate that he will be closer to Bush's third term"

So are we to assume he's already invaded a country that posed no risk, tried to privatize Social Security, and committed multiple war crimes?

Bush didn't put this country in the position it is in now without some help. Thats all you need to do is look at the Democratic majority in the Senate and House, their approval ratings are even worse than Bush's. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why, the public keeps voting in these lame duck loser politicians again and again. Why, the general public is lazy and refuses to research their senators and congress-person's voting record to see how bad they really are. The media sure isn't going to tell the rest of us how bad these politicians suck (unless they are in the airport bathroom). Now all of us have to pay for it - literally. And Obama has to work with them, bad for him.

You'd make a bit more sense once in a while if you read it instead or even as well as some of those lame sources you get all your crap from, Murphy.

Frank Rich today was great, too, as great as journalism gets.

Oozie thinks he's back on The Drudge Report.

I sure do miss Oozie's well thought out and articulate posts when he's not around.

Well, there is a new political philosophical movement in town. It is called: The Hypocritical Have Been, That Still Think That They Are (HHBTSTTTA for short). These are people that are akin to make believe meteorologists. They go outside early in the morning, put their political finger up in the air to see which direction the wind is blowing from, then go out to their political weather maps and microphones and state without any doubt, "the wind today is coming from the East, and the sun also will rise from that same direction." With friends like them, movements of any kind, need no enemies. Who are these people? There are plenty of them out there. Take Maureen Dowd for instance. She calls herself a Conservative. Really? Obviously she noticed one day that the wind was blowing from Chicago and bingo, Bush is a long lame duck. Then take Colin Powell, yea, same wind. And Adriana H? The list goes on, and on. Oh, I know, some people will say that the Conservative movement is losing ground. Well, for those that believe that way, so be it. But the HHBTSTTTA is not limited to Conservatives. I can name plenty of names of non C's that have betrayed their own movements or former admirations, i.e., Gov. Bill Richardson. You don't believe me? Ask James Carville. You see, one thing is to kick a person when the person is down. Another one is to admit that one no longer believes in a certain movement, or a person, hence, one has TRULY (in capital letters) has made a change. The former will always leave a bad odor. The latter will always commands respect and admiration, no matter which is the movement.
