That suggests Hawai'i should have the same clout as Texas, and Idaho the same as California. That hasn't been the barometer since...well, ever.

I'm betting the author is ignoring farm subsidies, as well as the fact most of the top ten "taker" states are red and most of the top ten "giver" states are blue.
