I highly recommend the film Milk - even re-enactments of police activities in San Fransisco from 40 years back parallel todays hijinx.

Police across the world are doing a hell of a job (literally), and until they put cameras on their guns I don't trust any of them to use weapons.

The perps are bad enough, but legally permitting bad cops to "resign" during an investigation requires some serious explainations.

Oakland is not San Fran. Fruitvale station is Oakland, one stop from the Coliseum.

The cop will go to jail, the city will have to pay millions to the family.

So far, the only person they should be furious with is the officer himself. I've seen no indication that the department themselves intend to engage in a cover-up or sham investigation. The guy resigned right when they were going to require him to give a statement to internal affairs. If and when a homicide investigation occurs, I'm thinking they will be able to compel the officer to testify - not to mention the fact that the internal affairs investigation is continuing without the officer's own side of the story - which might not be very good for him anyways.

I took the police entrance exam in college and scored in the top 1% of about 300 people.

went to the interview process. Dark room three on me asking allkinds of strange questions.

Many of them asked things like 'if you were a rookie on patrol and saw your partner do something shady what would you do.'

My answer was that depending on the severity of the issue I might turn him in.

This whole affair needs to go to a Grand Jury immediately. With the videos available they can indict on some form of homicide, and if evidence has been altered or destroyed they indict on that too.

Quite simply I don't trust any level of government to investigate itself.

We had a family friend who was an LAPD motorcycle cop and one day my brother and sister ate too many mushrooms and he came over to talk them down.

It was classic. Here was a motorcycle cop in full gear trying to soothingly talk down to trippers. I could not stop laughing so they sent me out of the house. He was a great guy though.
