Menstrual cramps and migraines. The only reasons I've ever used those "couches" in the ladies room at work - maybe a couple of times in 20 years. In our case, they're not couches but more like those lounge things the school nurse had in her office.

Ladies. We usually have a lot more to do.

In a number of the larger dept. stores many ladies' rooms have two sections -- one with a couch and chairs, along with a long vanity table (w/mirror) to set your purse on it so you can comb your hair and touch up your make-up. These rooms often even have rugs on the floor. Sometimes if you have little ones with you the chairs let you sit down while you get the kids fixed up -- shoelaces tied, etc. and get your shopping bags and stuff organized.

Then in a separate, but open and adjoining room (w/no rugs), are the bathroom stalls and sinks to wash your hands. Yes, the majority of women DO wash their hands afterwards -- or should if they don't. Some ladies' rooms even have a small table which folds down from the wall when needed for changing a baby.

These sort of "lounges" attached to the bathrooms are usually provided because when shopping for a long time (and women can shop for hours!), it gives you a place to sit down for a few minutes without having to go to a restaurant or somewhere just to get a place to rest for a few minutes, plus it gives you some privacy.

If I am gonna have a 235 G bathroom it's gonna have a gold filled lav. Gold filled bathtub faucets. Miniature train going on the wall and a toilet that wipes and cleans up after You go. Oh and a super heated floor so My footsies stay warm when I get out of the tub. That is fricking outragious really.
