In a surprise choice, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter appointed Denver schools Superintendent Michael Bennet to fill the Senate seat vacated by Ken Salazar, who is slated to become interior secretary in Barack Obama's administration.

Apparently this guy is a political novice, but bright. We'll see.

Denver schools are not in all that good a shape.

Meh, Bill Ritter is an alright choice.

A Catholic and a former missionary in Zimbabwe he has been described as a "semi-progressive" liberal in terms of his traditional liberal stands on universal health care, enviromental protection, housing subsidies and welfare increases being tempered with his pro-life stance.

His pro-life stance is also tempered by his pledge to not overturn current abortion laws, to restore state funding to planned parenthood and to veto any bill supporting curtailing abortion if it did not include exceptions for "rape, incest or fetal anomalies".

He represents a real triumph fer the Dems in terms of capturing the elusive rural vote that traditionally goes Republican and he has helped turn Colorado into a "purple state" rather than a red one.

Other than the guy who was shot and killed outside his office in 2007 by his security people he seems relativelyt controversy free, sommat "No Drama" Obama must especially appreciate at the moment.

Be Well.

Bill Ritter has been excellent for Colorado AND the Colorado Democrats.

However, he is and (so far) will remain Colorado's governor.

It is Michael Bennet who has been appointed (BY Bill Ritter) to replace Sen. Salazar.

so, what do thoes from the great white north know about US politics? Good call potato head.

At least he'll know how to deal with all the recesses those fuckers take....

Very, very, very, bad choice. The good Governor should have chosen, liberals please sit down, take a drink of tequila, swallow hard and relax; the intelligent, constitutional lawyer, author, and very beautiful, Ms. Ann Coulter. She is always in the news, but in the last hours, she has graced the pages of the media with her wit and charm. I hope she is named a Senator someday by a future seating Conservative/Republican Governor. I hope someday she runs for President. I also hope that someday she stars in Broaday, so that she can grace a stage in that great avenue. I hope that one day she sings the Star Spangled Banner during a Super Bowl, and that she also sings at Carnegie Hall. I hope that someday, a full portrait of her graces the space in that museum where they now keep that ugly thing with a crocodile smile and dead trees in the background that they call The Mona Lisa. And finally, I hope the U.S. Postal Service issues a stamp, displaying her full body, and with strawberry glue in the back, so that Liberals have to "kiss" the back of the stamps in order to affix them to the envelopes. Sweet dreams libs, conservatism is wide awake.

"Sweet dreams libs, conservatism is wide awake."

So wide awake that...

The Democrats have a solid majority in the US House.

The Democrats have a solid majority in the US Senate.

The Democrats have a majority of the Governors.

The Democrats have a majority of the state legislatures.

A Democrat is scheduled to occupy the White House.

Real "wide awake" conservatism there.

Hans
