Pot itself is useful in treating nausea in Cancer patient, Hemp clothing lasts longer than clothes made from oil. Pot Oil has a myriad of uses. Now it's being used as a part of a bio-fuel fer airliners?

Did some of you actually read the article? A desert plant and that one not being cannabis. While "weed" does have a large amount of seeds, does it have the kind of oil needed for this application? Other than those surprising and colorful pops of a missed seed in a hand rolled job?

silly, you don't just go straight from pot to heroin. there's a whole list of other things you have to do first; beer, wine, liquor, valiums, oxycontin, xtc, crack, blow, steal money from relatives, meth, then heroin.

That is just about 12 bbls of oil per hectare. 1 hectare is about 2 1/2 acres. Wow 4.8 bbls per acre.

US Oil Reserves Oil Shale 1.5 Trillion Bbls, Bakken 400 Million, ANWAR 17 Billion, Coal 1.2 Bbls/Ton

To equal the small Bakken reserve we would need about 84 million acres or 13,000 sq miles. Water fertlizer, fuel for harvest, etc. WOW.

As if all the billions the Saudis and others are taking in from the export and sale of oil is being directly funneled to numerous terrorist groups.

I suppose that's why the US is selling the Saudis billions of dollars of American produced armaments so the Saudis can turn it over to the terrorists to attack the US.

Options? There are many. Any of them will require significant commitment on the part of the human race as a whole. For you know as well as I that we, as a species, cannot continue the "dig and pig" path we have chosen. We have one planet, one biosphere (for the foreseeable future). Too many people, to many mouths to feed, too much greed, too much nationalism and religious bigotry. The panacea of alternative fuels/energy sources will not save our future. Only a fundamental change and a radical departure from how we live now will ensure our continuance.

How much of the earth do we have to plow, plant, fertlize, and water to satisfy our need for an alternative energy?

Strip mining does not have to leave a raped planet, it can be re-contured, planted and put back to usefull and nice looking land. First, we have to quit leaving it up to politics and subsidys and leave it to free market.
