Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

President Bush on Wednesday reversed his decision, announced a day earlier, to pardon Isaac R. Toussie, a Brooklyn developer who pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining federally insured mortgages and to defrauding Suffolk County, N.Y., by selling it overpriced land. Bush's reversal may not be possible, Joshua Marshall writes on Talking Points Memo.

I find this strange. My understanding is that presidential pardons are used to resolve basic questions of justice. If Mr. Toussie deserved to be pardoned he deserved to be pardoned despite anything his dad did.

Reversing the pardon is easy, just declare him an enemy combatant and lock him up indefinitely.

pardons should be for those who have changed their life around and long ago made a mistake. people deserve to be forgiven after a set amount of time. Unless it was violent crime or they harmed children then I say FU

"Heckuva job-bushie!"

Is he gonna give himself a Medal of Fucked-up dumb?

Toussie was a victim of timing. Ten years ago, a mere $28,000 donation would have bought him not only a pardon, but a nice plaque in the Clinton library.

The Shrub giveth, and the Shrub taketh away. Perhaps the check bounced.

Pardons should be for the wrongly convicted. It is to right a wrong.

It's unpardonable.

The Idiot Bush calls a do-over! Big surprise? Very child-like.

This is no accident. Karl Rove is terrified of going to prison, ditto Dick Cheney. I believe this guy's pardon and rescincion was reverse-engineered to make Eric Holder's Mark Rich pardon look unethical. Desperate, desperate.

Either do away with these pardons or restrict them to regular people who have repented and don't belong in jail even when what they did merited the jail time they got.

It's a classic Blago situation and money or favors will get you a pardon where common sense or compassion won't.

Bush is no worse than any other president in this regard although the screw up is all too typical. Still it's Christmas, give hime a break this one day a year.

Yeah. The nerve of W. Trying to do the right thing. Slammed when he gets it wrong; slammed when he tries to make a correction.

Unlike Clinton who obviously sold pardons to the highest bidder or your local terrorist at least Bush saw the problem and tried to fix it.

BUZKILLER

Reckon Bush has time to fix everything else he fucked up? Two countries for starters. Provided he doesn't go off on vacation again, ya think he could pull it off?

Here's my take on your comment:

Bush to Bush

Quote..."Unlike Clinton who obviously sold pardons to the highest bidder or your local terrorist at least Bush saw the problem and tried to fix it."

Methinks Bush saw the bad press coming. He's hoping to get out of this one by pleading stupid this time. Let's hope the excuse works if he ever gets tried for war crimes.

Trying to preserve his legacy at this point is a day late and a dollar short.

Bush will go down as the single worst president in United States history, nothing will ever change that.

"He's hoping to get out of this one by pleading stupid this time"

Shouldn't be too hard...
He's a natural...

Yeah. Sure. All by himself.

Nice, but don't forget about the lives that were spent in vain...

No, actually that distinction belongs to Jimmy Carter and that will probably never change.

People thought that about Mark Spitz' Olympic record. But records are just meant to be broken. George W. Bush is the Michael Phelps of Presidential Misadminstration

SANANTONIO

You made up another 'Bushism' without probably intending to.

"Misadministration" LOL !!

AU - I've been using that one for a while - although I usually type it as "the Bush (mis)administration. Seemed sadly appropriate, somehow.

SANANTONIO

I'm reading Vince Bugliosi's "The Prosecution of George W Bush for Murder". I'm remembering all the reasons I learned to disdain Bush, and how glad I"ll be when that prick is back in Texas.

Bugliosi is his generation's Patrick Fitzgerald. Boy, does he lay into Bush. Rightfully so.

Actually the award for the worst president in history goes to Pat Buchanan. President Carter is not even in the top ten. At least Nixon and surely Bush will make the top ten. Bush will bump Carter up to 12th. Carter is also the only president ever to receive a Nobel peace Prize. There's not a chance in hell Bush will even be nominated unless, like Rush Limbaugh, he nominates himself.

Bugliosi is a turd. Just another democrat who can't stand that Bush kicked shit in the teeth of both Al Gore and John Kerry.
