The border city of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, population 1.3 million, has suffered 1,350 murders so far this year. "That's 12 today?" a young bystander asks near a crime scene where two people have been killed. By the end of the day 17 more have died.

Wow I can't believe what has happened to my beautiful Juarez. It's like Iraq these days. I at one time almost bought a house there. I don't see myself going back for my annual trip.

Yeah, Rolling Stone did a major article on the Drug Wars last month...hard hitting stuff & its gonna hit the USA soon enough

The War Next Door
As drug cartels battle the government, Mexico descends into chaos

Unintended consequences are a bitch

It's not nice to make Mother Nature's plants illegal.

legalize weed.

Pull out! It's a quagmire!

/giggity!

So, it's only Mexicans.

It was probably only like 7 of those filthy wets, but because they have so many fucking names the guy counting got confused.

Juarez has always been a murderous trash dump of a city and will always remain a murderous dump.

I wouldn't go there again.

Period.

Shouldn't something this funny and light-hearted have been posted on the Nooner?

Mexicans also count it if a goat gets killed.

Maybe we could ask the HoChunk or Menomonee tribes if they could knockup 1,350 buffalo and replenish Juarez.

It won't be long before it spreads here. Unintended consequences are a bitch.

It's already here. Don't kid yourself. The Mexican Mafia controls the inside of the California prisons and the drug cartels' operations on the outside -- along with the turf where they get to operate. Mexican drug cartels have bought and paid for a number of city council members and Mayors here in Southern California which explains why many times when laws are initiated which would get tougher on these gangs they never get to the ballot box.

Clinton, and even more so under Bush, have left our borders wide open. Bush took the side of a known illegal alien drug smuggler against two U.S. Border patrolmen in a shootout on this side of the border. The drug dealer ran, turned while in flight, the border agents thought he was going to shoot and shot him in the butt as he turned back again to flee.

The two U.S. Border Patrolmen have rotten in solitary confinement for almost two years now. Despite pleas on their behalf by many Republicans and a number of Democrat Senators and Congresspersons, Bush refuses to even consider a pardon for them.

And the Mexican drug dealer caught with more than 700 pounds of pot while illegally here on our side of the border? Well, he snuck back into our country again with even more drugs but, thanks to Bush, was given less time in jail than the two border agents and not in solitary confinement either. Not only that, the drug dealer was encouraged to sue our own government over the shooting incident and was awarded more than $1 million in damages.

Bush did the express bidding of the Mexican government and the drug cartels -- send a message to border patrol to NOT do their job. It's worked. Many U.S. Border patrolmen have said since that incident they no longer even try to intercept Mexican cartel drug runners where they may have to use their guns because they know our own U.S. government will not back them up. Morale among our border patrol has plummeted.

Now why would Bush choose to back the wishes of the Mexican government and the Mexican drug cartels by vigorously prosecuting two of our own U.S. border patrol agents and eagerly accepting as truth the word of an illegal alien drug smuggler from Mexico over that of the two U.S. two border patrolmen as to how the incident came down? And why -- TO THIS DAY -- does Bush continue to leave our borders wide open and less than 5% of our port cargo uninspected? Hmmm? Makes one wonder -- a lot.

Bring in these nutballs and offer them amnesty before they get injured. WE MUST OFFER SAFE HARBOR TO THESE PEOPLE- ARE WE NEANDERTHALS ?

so much more could get done if they didn't take those damm siestas

I'd rather smoke dope than drink alcohol (though I've done neither in years), but I don't understand how people can buy dope and coke knowing that it funds that horror.

Valis raises a very good point about drugs. They're fun, but the people who bring them into the country are sending the money to fund war, terrorism, and murder. What, then, is the ethical stoner's solution?

Smoke the fluffy, sticky icky shit and nothing else. Forget coke, that funds FARC. Forget opium/heroin- that funds the Taliban. Buy kind bud. If you do, you are not funding the killing. You are funding a domestic industry. To maximize profits, Mexican drug cartels vacuum-pack their weed, making it dense and drab-colored. Mids. The nice, fluffy chronic (I'm talking about top-quality weed, not weed+coke) not only gets you higher, but it is also grown locally.

Be American. Buy American.

Think Globally, Toke Locally.

You're right. Your jokes have gone to pot.

"Juarez has always been a murderous trash dump of a city and will always remain a murderous dump."

Ummm, not so. Used to go there all the time. Wonderful little town. Cheap hookers, cheap booze. What more could an underpaid Marine ask for.

"It's like Iraq these days."

Ummm, not so.

>Body count in the last six months in Chicago: 292

-HappyEnding

That's the American body count in Iraq. Do you have any idea how many Iraqis died in Iraq during the last 6 months? I know that the lives of Iraqis aren't worth the same to a neocon as the lives of Americans, so let's do a little math. I'll assume a conversion factor of 0.2- that means the lives of five Iraqis equals the life of one American. That's appropriate for a bunch of brown people who don't believe that Jesus is God, right?

Now for the data, from Iraq Body Count, which only counts documentable deaths. This is a minimum.

Dec: 144
Nov: 467
Oct: 526
Sept: 535
Aug: 591
Jul: 583
-------------
2846 Civilian Deaths

2846(0.2) = 569.2

So, assuming it takes five dead Iraqis to equal one dead American, Iraq is a little less that twice as fucked up as Chicago. I haven't even counted American troop deaths yet. Excellent logic, HappyEnding.

"So, it's only Mexicans."

For now. Wait until it spills over.

Keep those pinche wetters on their side of the fence and let all the pochos handle this side.

"...aren't worth the same to a neocon as the lives of Americans"

Ummm, not so. I voted YoMama; hardly a neocon.

"So, assuming it takes five dead Iraqis to equal one dead American..."

That's your "math" (which I'm sure you had to look up). For me, it's more like 10:1.

"Excellent logic, HappyEnding."

Tell me something I don't know.

That's your "math" (which I'm sure you had to look up). For me, it's more like 10:1.

My math? Of course I looked up the death toll. I find reputable sources and cite them instead of pulling convenient numbers out of my ass, as some individuals do. I do make exceptions when it comes to equating the lives of Iraqis and Americans.

I'll use your figure- an Iraqi is 10% of an American. You would have 284.6 Americans. I'll round up to 285 since we are better than them. Now Chicago is looking a little scarier, but I'm sure there are still some good places to be found (in the suburbs, of course). Slaves had it better- they counted for 60% of an American (3/5 compromise, anybody?). I guess, by your reckoning, it takes 6 Iraqis to equal one slave.

The two U.S. Border Patrolmen have rotten in solitary confinement for almost two years now. Despite pleas on their behalf by many Republicans and a number of Democrat Senators and Congresspersons, Bush refuses to even consider a pardon for them.

per CC---

Hopefully Bush will pardon these guys. I have sent several emails to Bush.

Zombie--

Your cite states Iraqi civilians killed by violence.

And it includes people not killed by American troops but by the terrorists.

Surely you are not implying that Americans beheaded Iraqi's and threw their bodies in the streets?

Surely you are not implying that Americans beheaded Iraqi's and threw their bodies in the streets?

The Coalition is in no way comparable to terrorists, and decapitation isn't Blackwater's M.O. The same terrorists that kill Iraqis are generally the ones killing Coalition troops too. I'm saying that if you are going to talk about Iraq War deaths, you should look at the civilian and military death tolls. The media, and consequently much of America, neglects the former. It conceals the true human cost of this debacle of a war.

You have to admit that if the US had not invaded, the terrorists and sectarian violence would never have occured. The people of Iraq would still be under the rule of a brutal dictator, but there were no terrorists in Iraq until after the US got there. Which is better, tyranny of a dictator or the tyranny of terrorism and occupation? Only the Iraqis had the right to make that choice, but we forced it upon them. I might as well give you a choice of which testicle I kick you in. I'm sure you would rather not get kicked in the balls.

Meanwhile Ramos and Campean are in jail as political prisoners for trying to defend the US border.

We are spending billions trying to defend a sandbox in Iraq. Our businesses are going under here in the US. The big 3 automakers are getting billions under Bush to help the industry which will probably end up going to the workers in Mexico and Canada and line the CEO's pockets.

Wow! Cool future!

Me and a friend went to Juarez once to see how many bars we could get thrown out of in one night.

Seven. Then the cops took us back to the b order to enjoy the sunrise.

BTW, it's hot and sunny today in Manila -- for all you East Coast liberals freezing your asses off. I like to watch CNN with the air conditioning blasting

It's no wonder the entire world speaks so fondly of American tourists.

You've never been to Juarez Boyd, American tourist are the last of their worries.

Satanic death cults, drugs cartels, and crooked cops and militias, are a mite more worrisome.

I've been to Juarez. I also said nothing of their priorities of worries. I merely stated that it's assholes like you that earn all of us a bad rep when we, the non-assholes, visit other countries.

Assholes like 'me'?

Damn, you have some serious anger issues lil buddy.

I never strayed off the beaten path nor looked for problems in Juarez.

My most vivid memory of Ciudad Juarez was the barkeeps trying to pass off watered down tequila with caramel coloring as top self Scotch. Los bastardos!

Hopefully Bush will pardon these guys. I have sent several emails to Bush.

My side is hurting from laughing.

Smurphy... WTF makes you think Bush can find your email? You know they have a problem loosing emails at the Whitehouse...

You should have just called the lame asshole if you wanted to ask a favour... Since you know him so well... LOL

Smurphy... WTF makes you think Bush can find your email?

He won't personally, but his staff includes people who read mail and 'tally' like mails. They serve as a bellwether to how the public is feeling.

I read an article years ago about letter writing. It said that only one in 25 people take the time to write the government or corporations to tell how they feel about the subject. So if a letter is received, it is treated as though 24 more people feel the same way.

I do not hesitate to write my congressman to tell him how I feel on a subject. It's like getting 25 votes for the price of one!

And what indication has George Bush given in the last 8 years that he gives a flying fig what the people think or how they feel?

And what indication has George Bush given in the last 8 years that he gives a flying fig what the people think or how they feel?

I don't know. I don't speak for the president. You'll have to ask him.

You wouldn't happen to be from Chicago, would you?

LOL

I didn't ask you to speak for the President. I asked you for an opinion.

I asked you for an opinion.

I really haven't given the subject matter much thought, so I don't have an opinion

Hasn't stopped you before, but OK then.

Hasn't stopped you before,...

You were itching to get in a dig, but you didn't get the response you wanted so you had to settle for that lame-assed insult.

Whatever, SAR.

Oh snap, Bullwinkle.

"To extrapolate that since one disagrees with your policy that they must be uncaring/cruel, etc, is quite a stretch"

I didn't say that, Oohrah. But both Bush and Cheney (especially Cheney) have made public comments indicating lack of concern for, if not outright disdain for what the American public thinks.

That doesn't make them uncaring or cruel as individuals, but it certainly calls into question the efficacy of any letter or E-mail writing efforts at this stage of the game.

OohRah He has earned every onje of those impugnations. That's what happens when You initiate an Illegal War support torture and piss all over the United States Constitution as well as pissing on Our Country's good name with regards to the rest of the world.. He should be in the Dock at The hague for His very deeds OohRah. I am just sorry You can not see this.

Larry

Your accusations of criminality (illegal war, pissing on the Constitution) are examples of my point that the left has attempted to criminalize policy differences they have with W.

Posted by OohRah at 2008-12-23 09:08 AM | Reply

It's not policy differenses it's the fucking truth dude. I am sorry that You can not seem to grasp it. He has several times pissed upon the Constitution and the Supreme Court has rebuffed Him how many times now???? It's no accusations just hard and fast FACT

Larry

Illegal Detainment of a US Citizen.
Habeus Corpus denials without Congressional authority.
Denial of Dentainees right to challenge their detainment in a Court of Law.
Illegal Wiretappings in violation of the 4th amendment.

Now tell Me OohRah that He didn't piss upon the US Constitution.

Larry

Bush is far from the first POTUS to have legislative initiatives ultimately reigned in by the judiciary. However, it hardly classifies him as a criminal, as you have claimed.

How many Uniformed Iraqi Combative deaths have there been in the last 6 months?

What's that? There are no Uniformed Iraqi Combatives in Iraq? Well then, who are we fighting there?

Perhaps they are insurgents? What's another word for Insurgent?

Civilian?

Oh SNAP...

It's no wonder the entire world speaks so fondly of American tourists.

I doubt you've been to Juarez. Otherwise, you'd know it is a shithole where there are only three businesses:

1. Drinking
2. Prostitutes
3. Illegal immigration

As an American who travels to other countries frequently, I am welcomed everywhere. Americans are known to be pleasant, generous and polite. Americans are known to be respectful of local customs and culture.

I just got back from Manila and my most-embarassing moment was when a taxi passed up some locals because the driver wanted the American as a passenger. I flagged the Filipinos to take the taxi, while I waited for the next one.

If you ever get beyond the security of your suburban house and easy access to McDonald's, you will learn this.

But you won't. The world is full of brown people and that's scary!
