"Free Markets" are a Myth. A useful myth for developing elementary economic theory, but a myth none the less. We live in a world in which big fish eat little fish and the magic of compound interest routinely exceeds our economic growth. The Capitalistic Free Market Model is unsustainable, which never stops the financial sector from squeezing more and more profits out of our total production until they break it. In the real "Christian and Moslem World" money trumps human needs, the wants of the Rothschilds, Fauds and their likes trump all other considerations, populations rise with productivity keeping workers in a virtual standstill, markets are regulated or they fall apart, choices and opinions are engineered, TV is more cost effective means of control than guns.

It's awesome when people try to blame free market economics for the recent downfall. When did we have a free market? Was there some magical weekend when the government stopped interfering with absolutely everything for a brief shining 48 hours and that's where it all went bad?

Let these time honored companies restructure under the benefit and structure of the law, not the supervision and mandates of socialist bureaucrats, via the "Car Czar". My sympathies to all of the autoworkers, their affiliates, and their families. There will be pain, but from the ashes will rise the best of what these companies have to offer.
