Interesting, Paterson got the Lt. Gov's nod based on his daddy's prominence in politics, and Caroline gets the nod based on her family's prominence in politics, and the liberals seem quite pleased with this idea of succession to political power based on family ties in preference to a meritocracy, and participation of a broader swath of the people in political leadership.

What does Caroline bring to Paterson? Well, access to Obama, and money to help New York. New York is an extravagant state, but has suffered a loss of income due to the impact of the economic decline on the financial sector. Yet it does not seem to plan to curtail spending. It's analogous to California after the dot com bubble burst, but which continued reckless spending.

And despite Michelle's increase in value as an employee more than doubled upon Obama's election to the U.S. Senate, he's not benefiting from his political position. Got it. He's clean.
