What a spectacularly intelligent choice this is. It's destined to fail. Nothng good can flourish in washington.

Is it possible that Obama supports nuclear power? That would be a pleasant surprise.

Yes, he does.

Too bad Reagan killed fusion research in the US thirty years ago. And the US bailed on ITER just recently.
www.iter.org

Good.

Someone qualified for the position with a scientific mind.

Pretty much the type of person you would expect a president to choose.

Rir obama supports nuke power but where do u store the waste? No one wants to address that? Y not?

Steven Chu was also reported in a 2006 PricewatershouseCoopers audit of improper compensation practices at the University of California. The audit reported that Chu had, contrary to University rules, received improper honoraria, extra vacation days, money for moving, sabbatical credits, and a deferred compensation for which he was unqualified. Records produced under the California Public Relations Act also show that he was secretly offered a signing bonus of $50,000 and unusual increases in pension benefits.

Thank god it's not Al Gore.

Since 2004, Chu has been director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, which has 4,000 employees and a budget of $650 million. The laboratory under Chu has been a center of research into biofuels and solar energy technologies. Chu has been a vocal advocate for more research into alternative energy, arguing that a shift away from fossil fuels is essential to combat global warming.
Does that mean we're just going to keep subsidizing corn ethanol? Anyone have a link to this guy's specific energy positions?

Thank god it's not Al Gore.

Thank Sarah Palin its not God.

Thank god it's not Al Gore.

That is exactly what I thought when I read Nobel laureate, I almost lost my lunch Al Gore is one of the stupidest men alive...

...and he's for the massive increase in nuclear weapons production, extreme torture methods, and for the Country of Iran to be eliminated from the map.

The libs haven't slept one minute since that awful drunken hangover the morning after the election...

"I almost lost my lunch Al Gore is one of the stupidest men alive..."

Although I'm betting he could've punctuated that phrase correctly....

Takes one to know one, I guess.

Too bad it was not Bill Wattenberg.

arguing that a shift away from fossil fuels is essential to combat global warming.

Just another worshiper at the temple of ALGORE. Hope he can keep his politics out of his science - then he will be a good pick.

Global warming update:

Isn't obama briliant? This man will never let politics get in the way of making us energy independent. You know, they way the DOE was set up by that genius J Carter.

so its wrong to even QUESTION a scientists??

is that what you are saying

that if algore says its DONE then thats it and there is nothing more to even look at??????

just wondering how much it will cost each of us

They have done an outstanding so far.

When Obama and this Nobel Prize winner are done we won't have enough energy in this country to run a dildo.

Really how is Hillary qualified to be secretary of State. Oh thats right she had tea with Arafat's wife

When Obama and this Nobel Prize winner are done we won't have enough energy in this country to run a dildo.

You'll have to switch over to your manual model then, I guess, you lazy SOB.

Ok how is this. Danforth is stupid.

"You know, they way the DOE was set up by that genius J Carter."

Actually I think his IQ did test in the genius range.

its not wrong to question a scientist

but a righty is ALWAYS wrong

I get way too tired. The manual model is like driving a big SUV, and it takes way to much energy to run. Mine is like a clasic car. My wife gets it out for a joy ride a few times a week, then goes back to the new energy efficient stuff.

"Ok how is this. Danforth is stupid."

Rule Two: When calling someone stupid, make sure your post is properly punctuated.

"Go away."

OK .. you assholes are laughable, and there is no need to take you seriously.

Remind me again of your defense of Bush appointees.

Senate seats for sale, 50 cents, a dollar , do I hear a buck fifty?

Stand aside boy, the presidency has been sold, the chicoms paid a billion dollars to undermine America, now back down. We got the new fuhrer ubama bar obama, with his 20,000 man SS, ve vill stup you, you shwines, achtchoo, mien furburger, zieg freid.

Have you seriously been alive for the last 8 years? Tell me when you think our country was in better shape?
2000
or
2008?

"why is clueless little black boy being put in the White House?"

Because he wiped his ass with the right wing?

The Nobel Prize winner should lay off everyone in his department, fire himself and then apply for another Nobel Prize in economics.

Sources say Obama's first choice, Rod Blagojevich, may no longer be available for the job.

Joe -
The same sources that gave us the birther conspiracy and you?

This post was a joke. Next time I'll point that out in advance for the short bus.

Joe-
So was mine.

Great.

What, don't like my sense of humor?

This just goes to show the country that not all political appointees have to be mindless idiots who can only say yes and have no education.

Ug, finally! We actually have scientists discussing scientific problems! Holy crap, this excites me so much, I almost came.
Finally I can stop worrying that politicians and religious wackjobs are throwing their baggage onto science.
Praise Jeebus!

"I almost lost my lunch Al Gore is one of the stupidest men alive..."

Stupidist or "most unscrupulous?" He had himself all set up in the carbon trading business to capitalize on the panic he created. But there has been some sort of poetic justice. His bank partner, Chase I think, ran into trouble, and now Al has had to regroup his forces. All that trouble and someone else will make more of the money.

The idea was even better than derivatives, and created an even greater prospect of financial debacle.

Think of the process behind this. You don't reduce emissions. Instead you trade them, so that there is a middle man, who does nothing but collect money buying and selling, a totally useless activity. And who was that middle man supposed to be? Well, the useless level of adminstrative activity was to be conducted with the profit going to none other than Al Gore. He may not be particularly bright. But he certainly knows self-interest.

If this sob story affects you enough, I'm certain that Al as an experienced politician will gratefully accept all money gifts you may as an empathetic human being, feel impelled to send to him.

I've been looking, and I can't find anything that supports the contention that Obama is a fan of nuclear power. As in most things, he takes both sides of the fence. "I support nuclear power in principle, but we have a serious problem with the waste." That is, he says nothing.

An editorial I read today said that energy is where Obama will be doing his best to appease the lefties who are otherwise disappointed in him. Carbon taxes, green energy, blah blah blah. Good thing we killed this Detroit bailout this morning. Obama would have put the final nails in Detroit's coffin anyhow.

Too bad that comercial nuclear power was on the way out before Reagan. What realy killed it was run away costs and they were all associated with a program called NQA1, the mishap at TMI, and a movie called China Syndrome. Some government wenie had the idea they could buy a quality product with a pile of paper records. All it did was add another 30% to an already bloated cost because of all the changes the NRC required as the construction was being done. They never froze the building codes to the design date like they do for any other construction.

History quiz. Who was the president before Reagan that thought he was capable of fixing everything himself?

"presidency has been sold"
yah, he bought the election, for my vote I got beach house in Malibu as well as a 2 week cruise to Hawaii. with McCain all he offered was a 50% discount at Disneyland!
