Lynn Sweet: The leaders of the Illinois General Assembly will meet in special session next week to strip Gov. Rod Blagojevich of his appointment power. And if a brazen Blagojevich insists on selecting an Obama successor in the meantime -- who in their right mind would accept? -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will invoke a rarely used power that senators have to decide whom to seat. "A different process to select a new senator must be put in place -- and that process should not involve Gov. Blagojevich," Reid said.

SCOOBY DOO!

This Illinois Governor was one of Barry's best buddies, but I'm sure that Obama knew nothing about all the corruption because the MSM told us so.

Why are you the only one who doesn't know that is false?

I'm guessing you decided to ignore the part Where Rahm Emanuel tipped off the FBI about Blagojevich.

You remember what Rahm Emanual is doing these days, right?

heres what gets me about this guy as pointed out by colbert this morning

he KNEW HE WAS BEINg watched and listened to and he STILL said the shit about how much he could get out of that appointment

is THIS the kind of guy who comes out of ILL government/???

This isn't fair! -The Left

What does the state constitution say?

After all, it is not up to the senators it is up to that actual state.

a republican won't get in because it was a democrat that left, simple.

Strangely uninformed and inappropriate comment since it was Dick Durbin who initially suggested taking the appointment out of Blago's hands.

If anything, this incident and what it reveals about Chicago politics only increases my faith in Obama's abilities to lead this country. For anyone to rise out of the mud of the backrooms of Illinois politics relatively unscathed is a testament to amazing political skill and instincts.

This isn't fair! -The Left

Who here (or really, anywhere) is saying that? Can you provide a link? Or is this just more bullshit partisan crap dribbling out of your mouth?

Barry has lied about his association with Rev. Wright, William Ayers, Rezco. etc. I think Barry is a pathological liar.

So BLT what's your point?

Those accusations have been proven false, making you the liar. Besides, who cares what a stubbornly ill-informed, out-of-the-mainstream, partisan hack like you believes?
Repeat after me:

President Barak HUSSEIN Obama

Hail to the chief!

Ah yes, thinking. Not your strong suit now, is it?

Taking it out of his hands is one thing, holding a special election is another. When Harry Reid endorses that idea, I'll believe it. So far I haven't seen that from Harry. I would also think that they would want the Attorney General to make the appointment.

Funniest thing I have ever read on DR.

Correction: Attorney General should be Lieutenant Governor.

DARTH

Some of the sites linked to bolster the wingnut's talking points include names like "Sweetness-Light.com", et al. They look like they were designed in 1992, cheaper looking than most UFO enthusiast sites.

What's amazing is that they'd rather believe what those sites say than what's vetted and reported by the MSM. Funny bunch these wingnuts.

"When Harry Reid endorses that idea, I'll believe it."

Its a state matter. I doubt you'll see Reid weigh in on the issue unless Blago tries to go ahead and appoint someone.

The GOP is trying so hard to find a way to make this stick to Obama. I think it's logical to believe that Obama had preferences for the person who would replace him in the Senate, but there's no evidence that he was involved in the corruption. Clearly, however, this is a major issue and must be addressed immediately.

And since when is the GOP the party of law-and-order, sunshine policies, and scandal-free politics? Maybe since they've got so much experience with corruption, they just assume it goes all the way to the top since it usual does when it's a Republican administration?

Its a state matter. I doubt you'll see Reid weigh in on the issue unless Blago tries to go ahead and appoint someone.

Then they would have confirmation meetings, right?

WISGOD

As I've read it, the Senate has the right to refuse to seat anyone should questions of impropriety be raised.

Obama met with Blago in Chicago on November 5

to discuss is replacement to the Senate.

-----------

CHICAGO, ILL. -- Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That's one of Obama's first priorities today.

He's meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

There's already been speculation about his selection...from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago's south side who co-chaired Obama's presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself

FACT!!!

Then they would have confirmation meetings, right?

AU is right. The Senate can get involved if necessary. They technically always have the final say in who get's seated, but only use it if there is a question of impropriety or illegality. If Blago appointed somebody at this point, I'm sure they would step in.

this ass wipe will need to wipe his ass during his ten year paid vacation

he KNEW HE WAS BEINg watched and listened to and he STILL said the shit about how much he could get out of that appointment

It takes a special kind of stupid.

I don't think there was anyone in Illinois, who didn't know the Feds were watching Blagojevich.

When he first ran, I had high hopes for him.
What a huge disappointment.

James Dean, they removed your story link already.

Remember, tools, at the end of the day it is back in your box.

Sweet NIBLETS! Where has it gone???

FACT!!!

I heard BLAGO has Obama's REAL Birth Certificate!!!

FACT!!!

Blago has a great opportunity to fuck over any hated politician in the State: Appoint them to the Senate.

How much did Blago get for wearing that rat on top of his head? Makes you want to scratch your head.

Maybe we could chip in to give the gov. a million dollars to pick a repub and help with his defense against these dem hypocrits.

Someday you could reveal the true story of your namesake and that fateful day when he flew that Piper Cub into the side of a mountain killing the Big Bopper and Buddy Holly too. Only Marlon Brando escaped.

Oops!

Dabnabbit!

I wanted that senate seat and would have paid Ol' Rodney $1.75M for it! My financial advisor told me there is a lot of money to be made in politics and would have gotten a return on my investment back in spades......*sigh*

Not enough, buddy. Not enough

Question:

When have you seen so many Democrats align themselves against another Democrat to throw him under the bus? Would this be happening IF McCain had won?

Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmmmm!"

Guess what word is used less then 6 times in total, amongst these 4 lengthy articles?????
Why does the NYT find it so hard to say the word....

And by today the sensation has passed, the press in their rush to defend b HUSSIEN obama have these headlines

"How did Feds Listen in on Blagojevich?

"The Good News From Illinois New York Times"

"NY politicians could learn from Illinois scandal"

Bah humbug.

If this were sara palin there would be 50 investigators tearing through her trash cans looking for wardrobe receipts. There would be 10+ links to on the front page and endless, months long infatuation with her hair, family, job performance, religous beliefs..blah blah blah.

Oh that's right the dr left DID that, even though she DID NOT SELL HER OFFICE. I wonder how you all would have treated Mccain, if this had happened to his office seat.

OK time to go back to those sara palin hattin links. Why bother talking about an old story with no relevance to the democratic party nor b HUSSIEN obama....

DR LEFT= HYPOCRITES

Blago's approval rating was 13% BEFORE this scandal. Anyone spewing shit about "throwing him under the bus" has no idea what they're talking about.

its the culture of corruption right Nancy?

Its a state matter. I doubt you'll see Reid weigh in on the issue unless Blago tries to go ahead and appoint someone.

Now we care about states' rights? Since when? Also, since when do approval ratings matter? You can throw an unpopular politician under the bus if it protects a popular one can't you? In fact, wouldn't that strategically be the way to go? Small sacrifice for the greater good & all that? Makes sense. Further, if we are in a position in this country where we have to look to Harry Reid to guard the process & protect any semblence of ethics here, we're royally screwed & it shows just how far we've fallen in our expectations of our elected officials.

"Its a state matter. I doubt you'll see Reid weigh in on the issue unless Blago tries to go ahead and appoint someone."

Wow. Who said anything about state's rights? Or were you just looking for any old excuse for a snarky reply?

"is THIS the kind of guy who comes out of ILL government/???"

IIRC, the previous governor of ILL (a Repub, btw) is now doing time.

Sounds like Obama will be able to stay clear of scandal. While he did come out of ILL politics, he did _not_ climb though the ward and precinct politics of the Chicago Democratic Machine. He represented the Hyde Park area, home of the U. of Chicago and with a long tradition of independent politics. Most importantly, he got very little help from Mayor Daley when he won his first election.

Wow. Who said anything about state's rights? Or were you just looking for any old excuse for a snarky reply?

I was speaking as to the fact that it was pointed out it was a "state matter". Pardon me. When does the Fed Govt care what the states want if it isn't what they want? Snarky? I have to admit, I love that word.....

"I was speaking as to the fact that it was pointed out it was a 'state matter'."

I didn't say it was a "state's rights" issue. I said it is a state matter - meaning it is their job, not the Feds to clean up their own mess. There would be no reason for Reid to get involved unless Blago appointed someone and the Senate determined that appointment was unacceptable.

"If anything, this incident and what it reveals about Chicago politics only increases my faith in Obama's abilities to lead this country. For anyone to rise out of the mud of the backrooms of Illinois politics relatively unscathed is a testament to amazing political skill and instincts."
