Some same-sex marriage supporters are urging people to "call in gay" Wednesday to show how much the country relies on gays and lesbians. "Fight the H8 with love," the Day Without a Gay site states.

By the way,
I'm gay,
and I won't be into work today.
But hey,
be that as it may,
I still expect my pay.

Wisgod is gay? Well, this is newsworthy!

He may need these then....

"Wisgod is gay? Well, this is newsworthy!"

Hardly.

I don't think so. -Dave's wife

"I don't think so. -Dave's wife"

Repealed by Prop 8.

This is stupid.

I am gay and I am certainly not taking part in this ridiculous excersize.
The organizers of this event certainly DO NOT speak for me! ALL gay people are not the same - thank you very much!

And I am severly, viciously gay. Maybe even VIOLENTLY gay.

So if somebody calls in gay, can they be fired for not showing up or would it be discrimination?

Hey Gay people possibly you missed the news flash YOU LOST THE VOTE get over it already !!!!!

So, rich gay folks want their underclass to risk being terminated from work and suffer so they can tell their rich gay friends, "We are Soooo Militant - We demand our rights." at the expense of others of course.

But,

What if their little pity party had no effect. This event could be a nail in the gay marriage coffin if not successful. It will make the cause impotent and show it has no following.

And,

Again the gay community is trying to equate their goal with civil rights, this time with Latin Immigrants using the same tactics and slogans to do so. I thought gays were creative? Can't they come up with their own agenda?

Doesn't this reinforce the flawed fundie/conservative thinking that homosexuality is a "sickness" that can be cured?

Real simple answer if any of my employees do this...

No problem, your calling in Gay. not a problem... You have two choices.

1) get your ass to work now

2) Have your resignation on my desk tomorrow morning.

its unauthorized leave, they are not sick, well, thats a matter of opinion... No excuse...

fire the sorry bastards!!!

Yeah, you can tell them to stick their job up their ass, but then it would become a weekly event.

Not my problem.

Honestly, i could care less if someone is gay, if thats what they want then so be it. They are people and should be treated respectfully whether i agree with homosexuality or not.

However, as an employer, i run this show, and if the employees think that they can bully people into things then they need to find other jobs...

Yeah, you can tell them to stick their job up their ass
#15 | Posted by wisgod

Wouldn't it be funny if the guy was a fork lift operator

Gives a whole different meaning to "take this job and shove it."

How stupid is the reasoning of this gay group organization, I just don't get it.

Don't like prop 8 so call in sick.......yep, you'll show them.

San Fernando Valley wouldn't be the same without Lipstick Lesbos!

If a gay man who works at the Hershey Chocolate Factory as a Fudge-packer calls off of work to protest Proposition 8, but also takes advantage of the situation to be with his Hungarian wife Ben-Dova, is he really calling off work?

You'd think at least the Lebians would know when they're licked.

Call off for the day...

Make your statement...

And go right to the top of the list for layoff bait!

Now if they can partner with the day without Mexicans...

You'd think at least the Lebians would know when they're licked.

Or whipped. Don't want to dis the S&M lesbians.

And I am severly, viciously gay. Maybe even VIOLENTLY gay.

I am not gay, or even understand the desire, but that statement is funny as hell!

Talk about your bad hair day!

So if somebody calls in gay, can they be fired for not showing up or would it be discrimination?

Doubtful. Now if a person told their boss they were gay and then the employer fired them, the victim may be able to seek recourse.

Well, at least we'll know on Wednesday how much the Country relies on gays and lesbians. I wonder how badly this will affect the stock market?

Well, at least we'll know on Wednesday how much the Country relies on gays and lesbians. I wonder how badly this will affect the stock market?

The market will keep going down, down, down (more tongue) and down......

What does showing America how much gays are needed have to do with gay marriage? I don't get it.

I just mentioned this to one of the owners at work. He had that funny homophobe look in his eye...

LOL! Sorry, I'm not saying you talk this way but if you read that like a really flaming gay guy is saying it....well, it's funny as hell.

And I am severly, viciously gay. Maybe even VIOLENTLY gay.

FF! An honest DR lefty should always be acknowledged.

"I am gay and I am certainly not taking part in this ridiculous excersize."

...consider avoiding the Gay Spelling Bee as well.

Prop. 8 passed. Don't liberals respect the electoral process anymore? Oh, I forgot, they only respect it when they win. Why all the pro-Prop 8 protests now? Why didn't they organize all of this BEFORE the vote? It would like me going out and protesting Obama winning the election. What's the use?

Oh, I forgot, they only respect it when they win.

And that is FACT! Like some of you around here like to say.

Didn't they make a movie about this?

I'm calling in Happy instead :)

"Prop. 8 passed. Don't liberals respect the electoral process anymore? "

Ute, we respect hell out of it,; we think it should be employed in any realm that's the public's business. Whom I wed is not. In the words of the sausage guy: FACT. herm

But herm, you are trying to make what you gay folks do to be "the peoples' business" by seeking the imprimatur of the state on your relationship. You can do what you want to do, herm, essentially with anyone, but that isn't mating unless a member of both sexes is involved. And to be married, the requirement is that you be of a class prima facie able to mate. You folks are denying biological reality, and trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, so to speak, making believe that "a marriage" can occur between same sex people. And going all adither because biological reality has prevailed, and society has not become a party to a folie a deux.

Now if they can partner with the day without Mexicans...

I remember that day. They actually had one of those a few years back. I was in Illinois at the time. It was nice to be able to go shopping and go for food and have the clerks understand me. (Am I a racist now because I liked having my clerks speak the same language as me?)

The newspapers also reported there was about a 20% reduction in crime calls requiring police assistance that day as compared to the average over the last 5 years. Obviously just a coincidence, because that's a fluctuation wthin normal bounds, but I gave my buddy shit about it for weeks.

i'm so gay, i'll become a bum for a day! who thought this one up? telephone conversations:

"hey, i'm calling in today."
"...reason?"
"i'm gay."
"ok. that's not my problem. you're on the schedule for a reason."
"well, the point is for you to realise how much i, as a homosexual, am relied upon."
"if you weren't gay, you'd probably still have this job. if homosexuals were nonexistent, then someone else would have taken your place. and if you don't come to work, same thing. you're expendable either way. last time: come to work, or find a new job."

The compassion of the Christian Right is heartrending.

Reading through the posts by my rightie friends across the aisle, convince me there is a chance for our Country after all......

If I have to call 911 to get a ride to work on Wed I`ll be there!

I believe the continued in your face, up your nose, tactics of the more aggressive element of the GLBT movement ultimately will work against their aspirations for acceptance of their life style by society writ large. They will succeed in conveying their anger and angst; but the methods will offend far more people than they will persuade.

what about homosexuals? If the answer is affirmative-why the in-you-face imposition?

The AMA considered homosexuality a mental disorder until the 80's. Due to political pressure and the threat of lawsuits they changed their diagnosis without any new research to prove otherwise.

Why did the American Motorcycle Association care?

Sure thing Timmy. And George Bush got more popular votes than Al Gore in 2000, right?

...my point simply is that in a free society no one cares about ones personal definitions. The energy should be utilized to sustain and generate more freedoms and liberty tempered with personal responsibility not more government rules, edicts and compulsions of all kinds.

this will be followed tomorrow by "newly unemployed gay day".

What a great idea - encourage acceptance of gays by making every employer angry at them.

You might not be a racist but you are an idiot.

Johnson purports to define marriage, mating and a few other bourgeois habits, but "that isn't mating unless a member of both sexes is involved" leaves me thinking that hell, *I* am a member of both sexes. It strikes me, J, that gays want no more and no fewer civil rights than heteros want and YOU have no business withholding it. herm

Well how hypocritical can you christian fuckwads get?

"Oh...It's against my religious beliefs to sell abortion pills or aids meds to people...But don't fire me I have RIIIIIGHTSSSS....."

Boo hoo. What a bunch of whiners.

BTW if you think we 'Lost' Prop 8, you have a big surprise coming to you ass-tards come March when the California Supreme Court rules the Prop 8 vote INVALID, just like they ruled Prop. 22 Invalid.

Then all you Christians and Homophobes can really cry us a river.

Hey, Cockfish:

Get your head out of your wife's twat. She pees from that hole!!!!!

What a bunch of Morons.

For liking the ability to go out and speak to people who understand me in my retail purchases?

So let me get this straight:

According to Prolix, if an English-speaking person in an English-speaking country finds relief and enjoyment when the person at a retail establishment also speaks English (thus ensuring the retail exchange can go smoothly) that means they are an "idiot"?

Gotcha. What else would qualify me as an "idiot". I live in a place where people drive on the right side of the road, thus ensuring that everyone has a compatible driving experience. That must make me an "idiot" as well.

I am a heterosexual person living in a primarily heterosexual area of town. When I went to primarily heterosexual bars, and found to my delight that I did, in fact, find heterosexual females to engage in relations with; thus ensuring a compatible experience, apparently I was being an "idiot" then as well.

When I turned on my computer a few hours ago, I was hoping for a smooth bootup into normal functionality. To my delight, there were no virii or malware affecting me, so I was able to make a smooth usage of my computer. Apparently desiring this made me an "idiot" as well.

The other night a neighbor's car was being broken into. When i called the police, they sent someone in a uniform to investigate it. Thus ensuring my neighbor's car did not get far after it was stolen. Apparently I'm an "idiot" for being able to complete that transaction smoothly as well.

Thanks for setting me straight, Prolix! Before you came along, I never knew I was an idiot for being happy that things went smoothly because other people and inanimate objects were actually capable of fully performing their duties! My eyes are opened, thanks to you! The only "intelligent" thing to do is to have a hard time everywhere, taking far too much time for things to be accomplished, because.. shit.. it's not INTELLIGENT to actually expect to be able to communicate with everyone.

Next time I go to Germany, I'll just learn 4 or 5 extra words in their language, get a job there, and anyone who doesn't like dealing with me in their primarily German-speaking country is just an "idiot".

It's all so CLEAR now, THANK YOU PROLIX!

Soh,
Are you not able to shop and complete transactions when the normal workers are present at your local stores or do you leave empty handed?

Most idiots are closed minded and do not have the ability to learn. You should try to learn about peoples cultures instead of denigrating them.

This day without a gay will only mostly hurt gays. When you look at areas like San Franciso where you have a large gay population that have businesses that service predominately gays in their neighborhoods, those businesses get hurt when gays don't work or shop that day.

Plus when workers skip work as a matter of protest, it gives other workers a chance to show up for work and show they are more dedicated to working for the company than serving a cause.

Wonder how many California employers have the right to terminate some one's employment if the call in sick and appear without a doctor's note? Moreover, I wonder how many of the employers can terminate an employee for committing fraud against the employer (lying to the employer about being sick)?

Of course, it is interesting to note that it would appear that the people in opposition to Prop 8 are now admitting that gayness is a "sickness". If not, I guess they are merely willing to lie to hurt someone else. What a noble bunch.

With all this need for gay self-affirmation and self-assertion, I hear a lot of gay self-doubt.

Don't look at me, I called in straight and said I'd be there on time and willing to take over some gay guys position that called in gay. LOL.

Lonnie

Thank God the gays don't know how to plow snow. We would have been screwed this morning.

Lol. I like that one :)

And I am severly, viciously gay. Maybe even VIOLENTLY gay.

what the hell does that mean? no KY?

The majority of people will at some point "lie" and call in sick when they aren't sick. Hell, toward the end of the year I hear people talking about "using up thier sick days" like it was vacation time or something.....

Maybe the Ill. Gov should proclaim he is gay.

Most idiots are closed minded and do not have the ability to learn.

Way to describe yourself perfectly. You left out the part where you have the inability to think in terms beyond whatever is most convenient to you when insulting other people.

I know, you'll just say "Well, he probably got all pissed off and leaves and doesn't even TRY to talk to the clerk." It's clear by the incredibly narrow arguing ability you've shown so far that nothing will change your mind anyway, but here goes:

Yes, sometimes I DID have to leave empty-handed because they can't understand the questions I am asking and there's no English-speaking person on duty to answer it for them. And it happened about 15% of the time whenever I had to ask anything beyond the bare standard minimums. Do you have this mental damage where you think that just because Rush Limbaugh once made an observation, it cannot possibly be true? *footnote rant below* Chicago is like that in almost every retail outlet you go that caters to the middle class and lower. You know what happens when you go around assuming things, right?

Seriously, you HONESTLY think it's okay for me to go get a job in Germany, not speaking the language well enough to do anything beyond the base transaction, and then realizing that nobody else on staff speaks German either? Do you think some German is then going to come out of nowhere and call the natives idiots because _they_ won't learn about _my_ language and culture? Really, do you think that everyone should just stop and take time out of their day no matter what to run out and buy a dictionary in the language of whatever person they're trying to transact business with and talk with them on their own terms? It doesn't occur to you that just MAYBE a clerk who cannot speak German isn't qualified for the job?

I love Montana! We have stores owned by Arabs, Orientals, assorted Hispanics and shut my mouth we have an honest to goodness Nigerian here who runs the local massively expensive furniture store. You know what the difference between here and Chicago was? When I frequent their establishments, the English is always good enough that at worst I just have to phrase something differently now and then. It's almost like the clear sky and lack of pollution inspires people to make an effort to speak the language of the country they are actually IN, or something.

I love the Retort! Where there are people so fundamentally incapable of the slightest bit of culture assertiveness and national pride that someone ACTUALLY claims that it's "ignorant" or "idiotic" to expect to be able to transact business in the native language of the country they are in!

It's uncanny! If you took what is said on this place as reality then Obama's a Kenyan, the consumer is expected to know multiple foreign languages just to buy a Big Mac without pickles, Bush STOLE the election, there's smokestacks on the moon (because a grainy youtube video insists so), Marijuana can cure everything from Insomnia to Narcolepsy, all police are inherently criminal, the Jews are secretly trying to rule the world, Obama is secretly a Muslim, and a car antenna is actually useful as a weapon.

This place is... well, frankly, it's fun.

*footnote* I don't know for sure that Rush ever complained about this, but he strikes me as the kind of ass who would demand to see the manager over an _accent_, so I'm sure he's noticed it as well. It ties in with how I've noticed a lot more supposed "liberals" discussing Rush' "talking points" then the righties here. If Rush said the sky was blue, there'd be "liberals" in here saying that not only is he wrong, but anyone who disagrees with them must be a brainless "Rushbot".

...and then someone will post that picture of the dude's beans sticking through the beanbag again.

what the hell does that mean? no KY?

Or he's a tough guy and wears his wrist watch on his joint.

I worked for a company that allowed us to take our sick days at the end of the year--otherwise we lose the days.
------

This only helped San Fran--the roads were lighter, the BART was lighter and the buses and trians and trolleys were lighter with less people.

Not to pry, Murphy, but you lived in San Francisco?

It won't work.

Everyone who's actually sick and drags their ass in will negate this.

Areas of NO CAL may feel the effect, but not many other places.

...and a car antenna is actually useful as a weapon.

It's not??!?!???!!!?!??

I loathe a militant anything. This is just another excuse to ditch work and then when the employer fires your lazy ass for what amounts to extortion, you've been "discriminated" against and bam, lawsuit. The GLBT is cutting off its nose to spite its face. Stick it to the businesses that hire you regardless of your preference, that'll show em. Stupid asses! I'm sure these whiners don't speak for the bulk of gays because they have mortgages to pay & kids to raise just like the rest of us. It won't be the rich, bored, "activist" that loses his ass.

A guy in our office is Bi.

I live in of Los Angeles the most culturally mixed city in this nation. There are enclaves of ethnic groups all over the city where the native language is dominant and the signs are even in their native languages so I guess you would hate it here.

I make it a point to visit each enclave during their largest cultural events each year just to enjoy the different foods and cultural merchandise they offer and to expose my children to different peoples and cultures. I don't always understand their languages but I do enjoy the repartee. I will at least attempt to talk to people to understand the significance of events and exhibitions.

The mix of people here is god's gift to LA and I would not want to be surrounded by a mono cultural society.

I suggest you get out of your insulated world and experience life for its differences and not its similarities, you just might learn something.

You obviously feel isolated and have blamed "the Other" for your isolation. You should probably stop listening to Rush.

"I love Montana! We have stores owned by Arabs, Orientals, assorted Hispanics and shut my mouth we have an honest to goodness Nigerian here who runs the local massively expensive furniture store."

But I think I changed my mind about you. You are an idiot and a racist. Maybe you should move to Germany I hear they are all white there. Might be more comfortable for you.

When you go to those ghettos in La make sure you get out of there before it gets dark and the gangs come out to play

timbci,
What makes you think ethic enclaves are ghettos?

I have lived here all my life and am not afraid to go out after dark. Please do not project your fear on me I can smell it from here.

Fear doesn't smell but the ghettos in La do.

But why?

Good Boy Timmy...

I suppose that all those who pooh-pooh this little episode in democracy also think we should continue to to patronize Mormon-owned businesses (like Blockbusters) and vacation in Utah, even if those people bought and paid for the great assault on human marriage rights. I hope it made a difference. It probably didn't. herm

Herm,
You do whatever your conscious tells you to do. As you can see the "Day Without a Gay" did not go so well.

I suggest reading Saul Alinsky "Rules for Radicals" and give the initiative process another try instead of crying in your Merlot and getting frustrated.

That book is a road map to your success.

Rule #1 - you must ask to enter any community, if you demand entrance the retribution will be swift, defeating and sometimes deadly.

I tried to explain this to Larry some time ago but he thought I was being facetious.

But really, get the book and pass it on - these techniques worked for Obama.

Peace.

I was just reading an article by Paglia someone posted a link to, and she mentions the issue of gay marriage:

Another hot-button issue: After California voters adopted Proposition 8, which amended the state Constitution to prohibit gay marriage, gay activists have launched a program of open confrontation with and intimidation of religious believers, mainly Mormons. I thought we'd gotten over the adolescent tantrum phase of gay activism, typified by ACT UP's 1989 invasion of St. Patrick's Cathedral, where the communion host was thrown on the floor. Want to cause a nice long backlash to gay rights? That's the way to do it.

She goes on to say that the government should get out of the marriage business and that gay activists should push for civil unions and all the legal rights and benefits that entails:

www.salon.com

Hmmm... Paglia's supposed to be an intellectual. She seems quite off-base about marriage.

Then again, like so many gay commentators on the right, she seems to live to be contrary.

Soooo....I'm going to talk about voting, and it's relation to "Prop 8". But first, a digression.
Quit bitching about bitching gays! If they want to protest, then they are free to exercise their rights to do so! Hell, I could protest that I'm not allowed to walk around naked. If they want to skip a day in protest, and they get fired, then they get fired. They are taking that risk. If they sue because they get fired, then that is a problem, however I think that the organizers of this event would like to keep that kind of publicity down, so I imagine they ask all participants to keep their lawyers on the leash.

Now on to my main point:
I've been hearing a lot of people saying that we "liberals" (me=/=liberal, me=moderate) only like votes that swing our way. However, let's say that the people voted to overturn Brown vs Board of Education? That's majority rules, isn't it? The question is, "is it constitutional?"
People are free to vote however they want, but what I see here is one group of people being suppressed. It's not like a major thing, which is why I'm still wondering why people are so adamant against it, and allowing gays to say "we're married" really wouldn't hurt anyone else. Soooooo why not?

www.funnyordie.com

That's good for a bit of a laugh too....
