Way to describe yourself perfectly. You left out the part where you have the inability to think in terms beyond whatever is most convenient to you when insulting other people.
I know, you'll just say "Well, he probably got all pissed off and leaves and doesn't even TRY to talk to the clerk." It's clear by the incredibly narrow arguing ability you've shown so far that nothing will change your mind anyway, but here goes:
Yes, sometimes I DID have to leave empty-handed because they can't understand the questions I am asking and there's no English-speaking person on duty to answer it for them. And it happened about 15% of the time whenever I had to ask anything beyond the bare standard minimums. Do you have this mental damage where you think that just because Rush Limbaugh once made an observation, it cannot possibly be true? *footnote rant below* Chicago is like that in almost every retail outlet you go that caters to the middle class and lower. You know what happens when you go around assuming things, right?
Seriously, you HONESTLY think it's okay for me to go get a job in Germany, not speaking the language well enough to do anything beyond the base transaction, and then realizing that nobody else on staff speaks German either? Do you think some German is then going to come out of nowhere and call the natives idiots because _they_ won't learn about _my_ language and culture? Really, do you think that everyone should just stop and take time out of their day no matter what to run out and buy a dictionary in the language of whatever person they're trying to transact business with and talk with them on their own terms? It doesn't occur to you that just MAYBE a clerk who cannot speak German isn't qualified for the job?
I love Montana! We have stores owned by Arabs, Orientals, assorted Hispanics and shut my mouth we have an honest to goodness Nigerian here who runs the local massively expensive furniture store. You know what the difference between here and Chicago was? When I frequent their establishments, the English is always good enough that at worst I just have to phrase something differently now and then. It's almost like the clear sky and lack of pollution inspires people to make an effort to speak the language of the country they are actually IN, or something.
I love the Retort! Where there are people so fundamentally incapable of the slightest bit of culture assertiveness and national pride that someone ACTUALLY claims that it's "ignorant" or "idiotic" to expect to be able to transact business in the native language of the country they are in!
It's uncanny! If you took what is said on this place as reality then Obama's a Kenyan, the consumer is expected to know multiple foreign languages just to buy a Big Mac without pickles, Bush STOLE the election, there's smokestacks on the moon (because a grainy youtube video insists so), Marijuana can cure everything from Insomnia to Narcolepsy, all police are inherently criminal, the Jews are secretly trying to rule the world, Obama is secretly a Muslim, and a car antenna is actually useful as a weapon.
This place is... well, frankly, it's fun.
*footnote* I don't know for sure that Rush ever complained about this, but he strikes me as the kind of ass who would demand to see the manager over an _accent_, so I'm sure he's noticed it as well. It ties in with how I've noticed a lot more supposed "liberals" discussing Rush' "talking points" then the righties here. If Rush said the sky was blue, there'd be "liberals" in here saying that not only is he wrong, but anyone who disagrees with them must be a brainless "Rushbot".
