Rep. Vito Fossella, New York City's only Republican Congressman until his defeat last month, was sentenced Monday to five days in jail for drunken driving. His May 1 arrest led to the discovery that he had fathered a child in an extramarital affair.

Besides his 5-day jail time -- I want his license revoked for at least a year and to see him sentenced to a ton of community service time. Plus he should have to pay a huge fine out of his pocket. I wonder if he had any prior DUIs?

You want. You want. It's not all about you.

couldn't get it thrown out quietly like most of them do?

at least he wasn't polishing the one-eyed gopher and running down families.

CALCHRIS wants more punishment for DUI than the terrorists in Gitmo get.

You want. You want. It's not all about you.

It isn't?

Nobody would even pay any attention to what I write if you didn't keep drawing attention to my posts. Clown.

I guess some Republicans are having a difficult time adjusting to the new political reality.

Wow, five whole days. I am sure he is reformed. Maybe next he will kill someone and then get say.. 10 whole days split into weekends. Drunk driving sentences are a complete joke and should be wiped off the books. They serve no real purpose anyway.

This is a perfect example why DUI laws are a joke. The people who make the laws are guilty of the offense. They would never create a situation that could negatively affect them. Talk about integrity problems.

I got ten days for mine. Fuck the jail time, getting out of the system was much worse. Classes and psychological exams, meetings. When I completed all my classes, the county health department failed to pass my papers on the to the judge so she put a warrent out for my arrest. I heard of the warrent and turned myself in to the sheriff's office. The deputy let me go talk to the judge about the warrent to see what the fuss was. I explaned to the judge that I had completed my classes and paid my dues. She told me to go to the county health office to get my necessary papers, (can I see your papers please?,) and prove I completed my court ordered bull shit. I explaned that the Sheriff's office was waiting for my downstairs. Her response, "better take the back door." Well I got it lined out and I sure as HELL WON'T DO THAT AGAIN! I am troubled by stupid bureaucrats who can't even take care of their own shit.

What a tool. Too many idiots following in this guy's example, unfortunately. I hear guys talking in small town Wisconsin about how they drive home drunk. My friends do it sometimes, too. Stupid.

Cali Chris! LOL! Your posts are great.

Amish dudes get pulled over for dui in my county. Usually because the fall asleep and block the road. They have to coax the horse away.

When I was a young kid I can remember my dad driving me to and from ballgames with a Bud in hand. Never thought anything of it back then, I suppose.

I still like to take my jeep sans door and top to Padre island, put it into third gear, and let it idle at the water's edge for miles with a beer in my hand. Very relaxing. This is the only time I'll indulge and allow myself a cigarette or two, too.

Oohrah, how old were you when your Dad drove you to and from those ballgames as you cradled a Bud in your hands?

Looks like Vito Fossella is now qualified to be the Presidentiator of the United States. Now if only his wife would get drunk and run over an old boyfriend somewhere...

Now if only his wife would get drunk and run over an old boyfriend somewhere...UPTHEDUMPLING1

Or, drive off a bridge and leave his girlfriend to drown while he goes home and bangs down a few more totties......

oohrah.. How different is now. If I have one drink... I will not get behind the seat. The wife shall chauffeur. LOL!

I wonder which you consider worse--Kennedy's actions, or Bush causing the deaths of thousands of Americans for absolutely no reason.

I love the anti-DUI laws here. They are probably amongst the most ignorant I've seen in a while........

*Anti-DUI law people

Does it matter? Are we having a contest in irresponsibility?

.17

That is pretty close to toast isn't it? One more and it's tits up for many.

CA has .08 as the threshold which is about 2-3 drinks in one hour.

And MADD is not happy because there are still people getting arrested for DUI. So they want to lower it to one drink and you are arrested.
----------

Did Patrick Kennedy get any jail time for his rendevous with the vote in the congress at 3 am in the morning and hitting a jersey barrier?
---------

If you drink--don't drive--get a ride, take a cab, call AAA tow.

Or, drive off a bridge and leave his girlfriend to drown while he goes home and bangs down a few more totties......

Because, Eldickce90, you sure as shit NEVER post ad nauseum about Bush's responsibility in killing 100,000 Iraqis and 4,000 Americans. However, you are obviously fixated on that one poor girl.

I guess that he doesn't have the same pull as Patrick Kennedy who was found passed out at the wheel.

So without me you're nothing. I'm happy you admit it.

I didn't know the Amish were even allowed to drink! But even so, I'm sure that wouldn't stop a number of the Amish guys from tossing back a few. lol

I'm guessing, then, you live in a county in Pennsylvania or Ohio somewhere? I lived in Germantown, PA but for a short time and was only 6 years old so I barely remember it. I do know (or at least from all the photos I've ever seen) the countryside where the Amish live is beautiful. I'd love to take a trip up around there sometime. It looks so peaceful, green, and clean. I'm guessing the Amish sections of PA and Ohio mix in well with the big cities which might be nearby even though they seem worlds apart in culture and way of life?

Hey CalifChris. Back in 1998 they busted a whole bunch of Amish for cocaine posession in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Yeah Amish and drugs who would have thunk it.

All the crap you had to go thru (assuming you didn't crash your car or injure and/or kill anyone and didn't fall flat on your face when the cop pulled you over) is the exact reason why I wrote my following comment --

Besides his 5-day jail time -- I want his license revoked for at least a year and to see him sentenced to a ton of community service time. Plus he should have to pay a huge fine out of his pocket. I wonder if he had any prior DUIs?

It wasn't because I belong to any temperance movement -- not by a long shot. But so often when regular citizens who are not well-connected will get slapped with a first-time DUI when they've only had a couple drinks even though no car accident or other trouble happened.

As you stated (and depending on the state) most courts and the laws on the books do make it hell on earth for someone with a first time DUI conviction to "get out of the system" -- not to mention it costing a small fortune in fines.

I'm not advocating drunk driving, obviously, but if you're going to have super tough laws on the books even for a first time DUI offense, then the law should treat everyone the same.

Just now saw your comment --

Hey CalifChris. Back in 1998 they busted a whole bunch of Amish for cocaine posession in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Yeah Amish and drugs who would have thunk it.

Guess the Amish may find it even more enticing -- forbidden fruit and all that. Plus being forced into such a restrictive life style, especially for the younger Amish, might also encourage some heavy partying along with laying out a few lines on a mirror. lol

I lived next to Lancaster Pa for a while in 2001 to 2002. I despised the Amish People. They thought they owned the roads. I used to curse every imaginable insult I could think of to get them off the road. I did some research and found they treat their women like the Taliban. Young girls are often raped and women are forced into marriage. When crimes are committed they are rarely reported to the police.

Yeah, it sucks dodging those weaving horse buggies.

The Amish drink alright, and they are vey good at it. They play jokes on each other too. When theyget all buzzed up, sometimes they'll go out and swap the horses on the buggies. The driver hops into his buggy, gives the horse the giddyup, and goes to sleep, because the horse knows the way home---only it's the wrong horse going to the wrong house.

I wonder how many times that backfired on the guy who did the swapping, when the guy with the wrong horse hopped into the wrong bed.

WTF are you talking about Larry? You don't know shit about me. Sadly I know more about you than I ever cared to.

Commence Operation 40 Year Old Reference!

This brings up a good question. (not aimed at you specifically, CS).

A lot of people chastise others for bringing up past events, then bring up past events themselves.

What is the cutoff where a past event is fair game? 1 yr? 5 yrs? 10? 25?

Larry you need to get over the past I have. Just let it go.

What is the cutoff where a past event is fair game? 1 yr? 5 yrs? 10? 25?

When it comes to past events on DR why not start with tonight as the official cut off date?

Every time someone shows up on DR who has offended another poster on DR any time in the distant past, the offended poster will bring "the event" back up and then a whole NEW generation of posters on DR who didn't know anything about it start asking questions and the whole issue is made "new" again.

Rex has come back and Rcade has let bygones be bygones so why not the rest of you? And Rex brought his great idea for a music thread with him. So.....

Larry, Rastaninja, (err, Jackass lol), StirinthePot, and all of the former PWZ gang -- in other words, to all whom patching up hard feelings applies out there in cyberspace (y'all know who you are) -- tonight will you all officially smoke a peace pipe on DR?

Yes? No?

What is the cutoff where a past event is fair game? 1 yr? 5 yrs? 10? 25?

There's one person I know who thought an event in my life over 30 years ago was relevant despite having no personal knowledge except that I provided.

People don't change how they are on their own, but life and its travails does change people. Hopefully for the better. LaRrY dUh MohrOn should be thankful for JA's disclosure in that he now understands just how disgusting he is, was, or might have been.

But he's a MohrOn and just doesn't get it.

Oh well, so much for any DR peace treaty.

I told Larry I was sorry and I asked if we could move on. I am fine with dropping it. I am quite sure his past would be forgotten if he dropped it. Yet soon as he starts verbally berating me it comes to the forefront.

It's been 3 years hopefully we have all evolved in the past 3 years. Btw Cali have you looked at Oregon? I graduate school in 2 weeks and I am focusing my job search in Portland. NorCal rent is too high these days.

Yet soon as he starts verbally berating me it comes to the forefront.

Larry seems to have changed. He used to be just inane, but he has become quite hateful in the last few months. In fact, I'd put him in the top five when it comes to hate postage on the DR.

i would take the 5 days in jail anytime over the 18 months of bullshit classes that I have seen other people have to do and suffer through. they suck your wallet and your free time. before MADD it was all misdemeanors and look the other way. now the cops and the system fry you on your first offense. it is too big of a cash cow and then you are sowed up in the system. i think a better punishment would be to let this asshole go through the system that he helped create and then he would be begging to rewrite the fucked laws that are in place today.

I despised the Amish People. They thought they owned the roads. I used to curse every imaginable insult I could think of to get them off the road.

Mr. Big Balls cussing out the Amish. What next, knocking down an old woman for walking too slow?

Oh well, so much for any DR peace treaty.

You should know better surfer girl. Peace with honor simply isn't possible without at minimum an apology.

Rob and I buried the hatchet but we were both sincere in making amends. That's simply not possible with LarRy and a few other MohrOns.

But generally speaking I don't have any animosity towards the PWZ crowd, and that seemed to be your focus. I'm actually glad to see a couple of them back in the fold.

Typical of You fuck stain isn't it Mike Siesel have to denigrate someones Family name don't You and make Yourself look big don't You Fuckup extraordinair. Why don't You use that one useful eye and get a clue and some class.

Larry

Wheeee! Now THAT'S some good retort!

Ease up, Chris. If this was his first offence then he probably took care of any community service by doing time. He would have paid a fine and may have also lost his license for a while but not definetely.

Chris, DUI laws are different and sentences meted out are all over the board for many different reasons. Penalties in states are different, judges are most certainly different, and each case has its own scenario. DUI sentences will always range widely in their harshness.

Seems pretty harsh to me. -Ted Kennedy

When a republican drinks and drives, he goes to jail. Not so with Democrats. Democrat Senator Ted Kennedy got drunk and killed a woman at Lake Chappaquidick. Let's not forget about Democrat Congressman Patrick Kennedy getting hammered and crashing into a barrier at the Capitol Building and getting away free and clear with no arrest.

How come Chimpy and Cheney didn't get locked up?
