Most of the additional American troops arriving in Afghanistan early next year will be deployed near the capital, Kabul, American military commanders here say, in a measure of how precarious the war effort has become.

Succinct, clear, and balls-on accurate.

I have no problem with going in after Al Qaeda, punishing the ever loving hell out of the Taliban, and maintaining the threat to inflict colossal retribution for any threat or overt actins against the U.S. But basing soldiers there? Beyond ridiculous.

We can all remember back in 1948 when defending Paris from the Nazis was still a major concern.

When do we start blaming Barry for things not going as planned.

Based on your side's history of blaming Clinton for everything, - a minimum of 8 years from now.

Afganistan is known as the breaker of empires.

Ask Alexander, Caesar, Gengis, the Ottomans, the Brits, and the Ruskies why.

Yes Mr. Kurtz and Barry said we need more troops there. Do you think he took any history couses at Harvard other than Black History.

Oh, I dunno. Russia seems to be doing ok. I'd be willing to sacrifice Puerto Rico and Guam.

Difficult to fight Muslim terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan.... with sympathizers in high places.

Takit-
What "sympathizers"?

"When do we start blaming Barry for things not going as planned."

Bush mania will keep him protected for a while-it is hard to let go of it...later--it will be his own that will devour him...

Goldwater's fault!
Satisfied, moron?

It also underscores the difficult choices confronting American military commanders as they try to apportion a limited number of forces not only within Afghanistan, but also between Afghanistan and Iraq.
I thought this was a NATO effort. Where are the troops from Europe? Where is the money from Europe? US Troops ran criminals into the hills and NATO troops let the organized crime back into the country.

Anybody with enough brain cells connected to crack a history book would have stayed out of Afghanistan.

We're bogged down and nobody has a plan.

. with sympathizers in high places.

But Bush will be gone next month and McToast didn't get elected to alqueda protector is chief, so brighten up spunky.

And Mid town-1/3 of the troops are NATO, mostly in the non-front line role. The front line is basically US, UK and canadian troops.
Afghanistan is being run by a Bush appointee and former employee of Condi Rice-Karsick, who is tied into the heroin trade. Pretty hard to blame NATO for yet another Bush fuck-up.

"When do we start blaming Barry for things not going as planned."

Maybe after he's implemented his plans, stupid.

Bush apologists are the biggest idiots in the world.

Well, going by recent history and using the Bush administration and is excusers as a benchmark alone ----- we cant hold "barry" responsible for things gone bad atleast until approximately eight months after taking the oath of office and one month after being briefed with a PDB of "Bin Laden to Attack"!

Well, going by recent history and using the Bush administration and is excusers as a benchmark alone

The Bushites still think Dubya did everything in his power to prevent 9-11. They still blame unidentified "liberals" for his failures in Iraq and afghanistan, so to be fair-Obama can't be held responsible for ANYTHING for at least 8 years.

"so to be fair-Obama can't be held responsible for ANYTHING for at least 8 years."

To be fair to all Americans, we should all hold Obama to a much higher standard than the Bushies held themselves. Obama ran on change, not on living up to the Bush's legacy of a completely incompetent and corrupt executive branch.

I agree Sully, but Bush didn't run on a platform of failure.

Obama is focusing domestically. Afghanistan will be Hillary's responsibility.

Report: Taliban now encircle Kabul
John Byrne
Published: Monday December 8, 2008

The Taliban now have a presence in nearly three-quarters of Afghanistan, and are beginning to encircle its capital, Kabul, according to a new thinktank report.

According to the report, the Taliban hold a permanent presence in 72 percent of Afghanistan, though Hamid Karzai's Afghan government says the figures "aren't credible."

Send Bush, Cheney and Rummy immediately, so they can wrap this problem up and retire with clean consciounses. Make them stay until the job is done.

Wonder how this would have turned out if the u.s. had concentrated on this front instead of the distraction that was iraq.

And let saddam and his klingon allies steal all our cookies? Remember the Bush Doctrine-it's better to lose two wars against guys in skirts than to risk letting interdimensional beings burn our Bibles.

Just like Vietnam. They own the night. We own our firebase (Kabul). Outside the firebase, you take your chances.

We have already lost, the writing is on the wall.

Just like Vietnam. They own the night. We own our firebase (Kabul). Outside the firebase, you take your chances.

No, they own the entire 24 hour day and make those occupying believe they have some measure of control.

It is like being in heavy traffic, you choose not to tail gate and let a car cut in slowing down and making more room and distance. You own the road but gave the appearance to the hurried car cutter that he was in control.

It is amazing how the ego convolutes ones thought.
