Barack Obama has selected retired Gen. Eric Shinseki, who clashed with the Bush administration over the number of troops needed in Iraq, to be the next secretary of veterans affairs.

Vindication.

Interesting.

A good man for an important job. Our Soldiers deserve someone who knows them and what they've been through and can effectively represent them. A man that's honest and will speak truth to power.

Competence and integrity return to the Executive Branch.

What a relief from the pathetic disgrace of the last 8 years.

You mean there is something more disgraceful than lying about a blow job?

You mean there is something more disgraceful than lying about a blow job?

Two threads minutes apart both about BJs? I think you'd better go wake up the wife before you go out into public this morning.

I love Barry's concept of change, not 1 new name yet, All repeats All the time. And so far, good picks of the old time DC faces.

So far the only thing he has changed is his mind about everything he promised all the socialist hopefuls.

Just keep breaking your promises and everything will be allllllright.

Go Barry Go!!!

Great appointment of Shinseki. And a nice slap in the face to the right-wing retards who failed to listen to a 4-star general. America is weaker in every way after 8 years of Republican right-wing incompetence and cowardice. Hopefully, more patriotic victims of The Goof President's administration will bring some competence back to government service.

This is a WONDERFUL retort to the neocons who attempted to disgrace a very mature and professional military expert who openly observed that he SECDEF's and VEEP's push button war concept was seriously flawed.

When will the "know-it-all neocon ideologues eat crow? So far not one has fessed up to screwing up and to putting the nation in harms way with ill-conceived ideologies. The closest that Cheney's neocon cabal has come to fessing up is to blame Bush for everything they wanted that didn't turn out right. P*ssies!

Shinseki's elevation to a cabinet level position is fraught with political minefields for the good General. He is now on par (or above) in stature with Rumsfield, a partially disgraced former cabinet official. (BTW, can anyone confirm that Rummy is still working in Pentagon City out of DOD-funded offices? If that rumor is correct, why is the Executive Branch still footing his bills???)

Observer22: Maybe he should have picked a Horse Judge to head FEMA. Would that satisfy you?

Tool.

Sometimes the good guys do come out on top.

Vindication is a fitting word here.

The lack of new names in the Obama administration
is a bit of a concern, but not overly so.

It is going to take a tremendous amount of work to undue the last eight years of misadministration.

It is doubtful the Neocons will ever acknowledge what their errors and lies have done to this country.

Now if the birth certificate crowd could just admit they are wrong.....

"Vindication.

Interesting."

Actually, "the surge" was vindication for all the generals who were marginalized for saying we needed more troops in Iraq. It is important to remember that "the surge" was not a new idea. The Bushies simply took an idea from people they originally blew off and gave it a new name.

Observer22-maybe you'd prefer he picked inexperienced people, unqualified to do the jobs they're asked to do-but we've ALREADY had 8 years of that-and are tired of it.

The REAL change here-is that he's putting educated, experienced, and very capable people in key positions. If that means putting a few people in there who's names you recognize-so be it.

I guess we'll just HAVE TO live with the shame!

Another uninformed Bush-worshiping lock-stepper.

Are you frustrated that he hasn't appointed cronies and 'Horse Show Organizers' to head agencies that actually need qualified people to head them?
