A new reality TV show ran a sting against cops in Odessa, Texas, rigging a house to grow legal plants under lights to see if they'd raid without proper cause. "When faced with a suspected marijuana grow, the police usually use illegal FLIR cameras and/or lie on the search warrant affidavit claiming they have probable cause to raid the house," the producers state.

Here's a nice Yuletide story.

Ho Ho Ho

From the forums on kopbusters.com:

My name is Adam Reposa. I am an Attorney who was hired by Barry Cooper to assist in protecting his property rights during any raid. I was hired to go to the house, read a book for several hours and then leave. After I left the house I was tackeld 200 yards down the street. ODP breached the door and entered the house within 15 hours of recieving what I believe was an anonymous tip. The contact and initial investigations had all occurred before I was even in Ector County, but as best as I can tell that is all the evidence the Police had acquired when they sought a warrant. So either the Judge is signing warrants with no probable cause which is doubtful, or the Affiant made misrepresentations. OPD released me but kept my ID and my cell phone. We are trying to get a copy of the Affidavit. Feel free to contact me at my office 512.476.0444 or via email adamreposa@yahoo.com

And to fill in the blanks the logic goes 1. Show cops lied on affidavit 2. Show same pattern in Madden case 3. Get relief in Federal Court. The problem is that the case is 2.5 years old and most if not all of the post-conviction remedies have been exhausted short of a pardon by the U.S. President. I am not the Attorney in Charge and I do not know all of the procedural history or all of the facts but of the little I do know there is cause for ernest concern. The truth is that there is little guidance or structure in the field for narcotics officers and they often cross far afield of their official powers, and when proof of such transegressions is produced it is like pulling teeth to get citizens enamerred of government and authority to give such proof any real meaning. Violations of Constitutional rights are routine in investigations of narcotics dealing.

So... some guy went miles out of his way to make it LOOK like he was committing a crime...

...and we're supposed to give a shit that the cops did their job?

So it was the cops job to lie on an affidavit?

I'm reading former FBI director Louis Freeh's autobiography.

He told a story about a huge drug case with 40 defendents he tried as U.S. Circut Judge that was blown because a cop told a small needless lie everyone knew was a lie the minute it came out of his mouth. The jury told him after returning innocent pleas that the cop's little lie put the entire case into question. They knew the guys were guilty, but wanted to send a message that those who enforce the law should abide by the law and practice a high form of ethics - or we're all screwed.

innocent verdicts

From your wedding pics you look like a guy who'd grow you some evergreen trees inside

I'm not the biggest fan of Barry Cooper. The guy comes off as a charlatan selling snake oil.

That being said, the militarization of the drug war does need to be challenged, and as I don't have any better ideas then the one presented here, I'm gonna have to wish Barry the best of luck..

"So... some guy went miles out of his way to make it LOOK like he was committing a crime...

No, some guy knows exactly how cops abuse their power and with very little effort he was able to prove it.

We can only pray that Barry will not call on
police officers if his tit gets in a ringer.
Hopefully he can call the ACLU, or some gang-members.

I'm sure they will be very respectful of his precious
rights to be FUCKED-UP ROYALLY BY VICIOUS CRIMINALS.

Cops sometimes 'cut corners' but c'mon, the thin blue
line is the ONLY reason we have anything that resembles "civilazation".

One characteristic I have noted in law enforcement and prosecutors is a hunter like attitude toward their professions. Most work within the confines of the law. Some can be very creative in their understanding and use of the law, to the point of no longer being true to the letter nor the spirit of the law.

Dean,

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

If the cops cross the thin blue line we no longer have civilization.

Condoning cops breaking the law is no different than condoning a "gang-member" killing a 6 year old in a drive by.

Fifty bullets in an unarmed blackman, Broom handles up the ass, Waco, Ruby Ridge.... and the Courts always go out of their way to side with the police. Only intra-convertable evidence will even cause them to listen. A path they prefer no to take.

"We can only pray that Barry will not call on
police officers if his tit gets in a ringer.

Actually, if he calls the cops have to do their job.

If they refused to help in support of the cops he exposed, what are they standing up for? They are standing up for a cop's "right" to lie on affidavits and abuse the rights of others. If that is your idea of civilization, you're fucked up.

Dean-if that's your idea of "Law Enforcement"-you can have it back.
I would prefer cops follow and enforce THE LAW-you know-those things that HELP DEFINE A CIVILIZATION?

Dipshit....

Hey Doggy Vulva,

So you 'support' police unconditionally? I hope you enjoy the broomstick up your poop chute when someone makes an anonymous call to your local PD claiming you are a child molester.

I think these guys( messing with cops) are true American Heroes. Thats what American heroes have always been for me, People willing to thumb their nose at the system and expose its flaws and abuses.

Cops lie. Fact.

Does anyone here personally know anyone they went to school with that later became a cop? Were they the class bully or just one of the petty thugs that hung out with the class bully?

It would be interesting to take a quick poll.

Only one kid I went to school with later became a Virginia State Police patrolman. He was a straight-D student and was the guy who was pushed around by the real bullys and then dealt with his frustrations by beating on the smaller kids in the lower grades.

oh man. try to go to their web site. it is DOWN. bummer

Does anyone here personally know anyone they went to school with that later became a cop?

Yes

Were they the class bully or just one of the petty thugs that hung out with the class bully?

No, she was't. She was quite a compassionate girl AAMOF. Many years after HS graduation I saw her picture in the paper along with a story citing her for valor. She was a cutie, too. I'm a sucker for strawberry blondes.

Goat,

I know several female cops and they are a totally different species than the male cops. I think a completely different motivation is at work for a woman to select that line of work.

I hope these cops go to prison and get sodomized every day they are locked up

Does anyone here personally know anyone they went to school with that later became a cop? Were they the class bully or just one of the petty thugs that hung out with the class bully?

I knew two

One was a complete asshole bully, and the other was as nice a guy as you'd ever know.

I knew one. He joined the military when I did. He was a straight laced kid. Studious and fairly nice. I never saw him as an ahole or anything. I never spoke too him much except when we were in DEP. I'm sure he is a good chip these days.

This gives me an idea for another reality show where they get real criminals (DR drug users) on tape smoking their shit and then making citizen's arrest, throwing cuffs on the fucks until the cops get there. With the cameras off we could kick them in the balls a few times. It would be a great show if I was the director.

fwthom you are an imbecile.

The KopBusters website has been suspended...hmmmm...how interesting.

They used that same logic to justify the Gestapo.

These 'Kops' violated the law and got caught doing so.

the highest rate of suicide is pychologists

and the highest rate of incarceration is police officers.

considering how far the system leans in their favor it is a powerful reflection of their dishonesty and worship of power

Another shining moment for the NYPD.

Grand jurors investigating claims by a 24-year-old man that he was beaten and sodomized with an object by police officers inside a Brooklyn subway station in October have voted to indict three of the officers involved, people briefed on the matter said on Saturday night.

One of the officers, Richard Kern, 25, faces an assault charge, the most serious of the charges in the indictment, which is expected to be unsealed on Tuesday. The charges stem from accusations by the man, Michael Mineo, that one of the officers jabbed a piece of police equipment later identified in testimony as a baton into his buttocks, causing internal injuries.

Fwthom's a real brave one. His fantasy is cuffing people and then hitting them in the nuts. All he's got to do is develop his fetish for sticking things up men's asses and grow a pair of balls and he could actually be one of these cops we hear about on the news.

Everyone cited the sodomizing of a person in police custody. No that's not right, but as ignorant people often do, they take one bad apple and apply it to the entire bushel.

For every bad cop out there, there are 100 good ones.

I think that both sides here are oversimplifying the issue immensly.
While I believe that cops should be forced to adhere to the strictest legal guidelines, I also really dislike the "hate the fucking pigs" attitude that I see in a lot of people. Yes there are crooked cops out there, but there are also good cops, guys who honestly want to help.

Here's my other take on it:
These reality shows kind of piss me off. It reminds me of another show that I heard about, which essentially amounted to entrapment. Wherein they would have a child intentionally invite an older man or woman over for sex using the internet. When the person showed up, they would get arrested.
While I appreciate that this man wants to change the system, I don't think that this is the way to do it. He is increasing antipathy towards all police forces (which may be deserved by some, but certainly not by all) and in doing so they are returning the favor.
Creating anger, and creating violence are never the answer in this situation, because you merely serve to polarize the issue further.

Gman,

Makes an excellent point, although the ratio he claims has no basis in fact.

In my experience the State Highway Patrolmen are mature, honest individuals, while local policemen tend to be more like juveniles in search of power they can abuse.

Even at the FBI level, we now know that phoney expert ballistic testimony has sent thousands of innocent people to prison and some to their deaths.

Actual numbers vary widely, with the South being most racist and corrupt.

Not all cops are bad, and this story is not an indictment of all cops, it is a reaction to one specific (and f*cked up) aspect of law enforcement.

Anyone who has a problem with people exposing corruption and illegal methods used by the cops should remember that it wasn't the potheads who declared "war", nor is this war justifiable, let alone cost effective.

And it is most definitely a war. Be glad this way of fighting it is peaceful, not to mention effective.

I like the idea of the show. There is nothing wrong with making sure police aren't just investigating people based totally on some "anonymous" source. Everyone can be judged or graded on the job they do, police are no different.

However, I wont watch the show because the name is offensive to me. Kops aren't cops. Kop has a specific meaning. We kopites have absolutely nothing in common with LEO and never will.

Fucking awesome.

Public exposure and humiliation is frequently the only way to draw attention to those who wield unlimited power with zero repercussions for misuse.

It should take only about 5 minutes for some cop lover to cry about how hard their job is, so that's why they should be entitled to abuse their power as they see fit.

"Everyone cited the sodomizing of a person in police custody. No that's not right, but as ignorant people often do, they take one bad apple and apply it to the entire bushel."

Most cops don't sodomize prisoners but most cops do expect all cops to cover for the ones who do.

So they have no right to whine about a few bad apples ruining their good name. When they take an interest in protecting their good name from sick perverts with a badge, then they can talk about bad apples.....

I got busted with 5 pounds of weed but the judge declared a mistrial because the jury was dreadlocked

How amny time are we going to hear the refrain of:

"Everyone cited the sodomizing of a person in police custody. No that's not right, but as ignorant people often do, they take one bad apple and apply it to the entire bushel."

And each time we are left wondering, "Where were the good cops?"

All I have to say about this guy's sting is; IT's ABOUT TIME!!
