It was the second straight year that Vermont topped the rankings. It was followed by Hawaii, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Utah, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Idaho and Maine. Louisiana fell from 49th to 50th, replacing Mississippi. Rounding out the bottom 10 were South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nevada and Georgia.

If plump women are an indication of healthy, I concur.

hmm... and it has nothing to do with the poverty in the innercities (or even in the rural areas) that may result in people buying off the McDonalds $1 menu or eating a ton of the processed crap because Kroger sells it for $1 a box?

Pretty sure most of those states have major blue areas.. :/ I know there are in Texas... Dallas County is one... as well as along the Texas/Mexico border... I don't see big people when I walk into Albertson's or Tom Thumb but I sure do when I walk into Walmart...

Now I am really curious as to the correlation between poverty and a persons weight...

edit: I don't see as many bigger people when I walk into....

Poor people often lack education. Preparing a healthy meal as part of a healthy lifestyle may not be rocket science, but it takes knowledge and determination.

True... it's so much easier to buy the frozen dinner when on sale for a buck and press the 5 on the microwave... Maybe correlation wasn't the word.. maybe more of a statistical query....

"If plump women are an indication of healthy, I concur."

Please. Anyone who watches Cops knows what that behind every shirtless, mulleted, drunken redneck there stands a big fat women with a lit cigarette and stained t-shirt.

We are definitely overfeeding the poor, an unexpected consequence of whacky lib social programs. When the fat M.F.s get sick libs univesal health care will waste trillions to give the fat fucks heart transplants. Even Franz Kafka couldn't have dreamed up such a crazy story.

wait till the blue states start starving, then they'll really have the correct body mass index rating.

ha ha ha... or an uber skinny woman that looks like her drunk husband... mullet and all...

Care to map out HIV and STDs and see if your thesis still stands?

Liberals pay the way for ethnocentric Conservatives in many ways. Health Care, Productivity, Balance of Trade.

Another bullshit list, anything to get a rise out of you with a 15 Second soundbyte! Nowhere does it say red or blue, in fact this story doesn't even list the states.

It was based not on the health of individuals, but all these bullshit criterium:

The rankings are based on four components:

* Personal behaviors including smoking, binge drinking, and obesity.
* Community and environmental factors such as rates of high school graduation, violent crime, occupational fatalities, and infectious disease.
* Public and health policy factors such as immunization coverage, lack of health insurance, and public health funding.
* Clinical care factors, such as adequacy of prenatal care, preventable hospitalizations, and primary care physicians.

from above...

"Just an observation, but the dumb/unhealthy states are gaining population as more and more people leave the smart/healthy states."

Unfortunately this is absolutely true...more and more people are watching WWF Wrestling and Nascar
and and Benny Hinn and Pat Robertson and the PTL and are becoming "Dumber than Dirt"

Just look at the top Republican in the news now,
Sarah Palin...she can see Russia from her home (not)
and skin a moose in under 10 minutes, but is she
really a capable world leader?

lol. and this oldie but a goldie from just above...

Excuse me. But when Tomatoes cost 5 dollars for four and two big macs on tuesdays cost 99 cents - which do you think the poor can afford. Especially if they're jerk-off christians who think birth control is a sin and have a family of ten.

Huh?

This says more about Capitalism and Greed of big Business Agri/food and their republican friends than it does about so called 'Liberal social Programs'.

Once again, your Ass handed back to you on a platter, you big fat moron. But thanks for playing.

"But when Tomatoes cost 5 dollars for four and two big macs on tuesdays cost 99 cents - which do you think the poor can afford..."

#22 | Posted by DUMPLING1

Yeah FRESH tomatoes can and do... but you can buy canned for $1 (sometimes less) and still make relatively healthy meals...

People just don't know how to shop for real food that is relatively healthy... My sophmore Polisci Prof was telling us a story back a few years back of him running into a lady that was shopping using food stamps (or some other government assistance) and she was complaining because she couldn't get enough food for her family... and what was in her basket? Things like steak and other non-essential and expensive items.. so he took it upon himself to teach her how to shop so that her money and food went farther for her and her kids...

I don't eat or drink junk and neither does my family, ever. It can be expensive, that's how it goes.

I'm surprised they didn't count the number of fast food establishments per sq mile too!

BTW Why would anyone need to go to an international news service to do an overview on a study done in the US?

like Louisiana and Mississippi? YA THINK????

By contrast, how many people do you know who, by choice, left those red states to move north?

Tell me, oorah. They're all moving to this shithole called Texas. I guess they don't read the DR.

Please, DR contributors -- you're not doing a very good job getting the word out about how awful this place is. Step up the pace, please!

Thanks

What does that have to do with this thread, fatass?

GOAT

We're too busy flooding Texas with "liberals".

I know I've personally sent out at least 30 million emails touting the inexpensive real estate in San Antonio alone

We're also working on a plot to buy every house in Houston surrounding BushLoverTwo. We'll blast "Farenheit 911", NOW speeches, and Peter, Paul and Mary records until he moves out.

AU:

Oh no! *grin*

PS, the most liberal city in Texas, by far, is Austin. It is also the most expensive. (what's the deal here?) But with S.A. being 70 miles away, a lot of them are finally getting smart and moving there.

Email back atcha. Left a link to a famous local place in downtown NO that has sandwiches to DIE for.

"behind every shirtless, mulleted, drunken redneck there stands a big fat women with a lit cigarette and stained t-shirt."

Head to the inner city in one of the more "liberal" areas and you'll see the same thing. Being out of shape has more to do with being uneducated than political persuasion.

I always heard Colorado was the healthiest state.

There's a lot of cancer here.

Ah--I just looked it up. Colorado is the leanest state.

Is there a particular cancer there? Is there something attributable to it, like mining perhaps? I never heard about the high cancer rate there.

#36 | Posted by goatman

I may have spoken too soon. Maybe I just think it's high because I've known a lot of people who have had various forms of cancer. The only thing I could find was this ditty about melanoma.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment reported that the melanoma incidence rate among Colorado men was 38 percent higher than the national rate, and for Colorado women, 46 percent higher.

Otherwise, in other reports the trends seem to be lower.

My apologies to my state.

If plump women are an indication of healthy, I concur.

Hate to break it to you, but 'plump' or whatever PC term you use for obese is NOT an indicator of one being 'healthy'. Far from it.

Just an observation, but the dumb/unhealthy states are gaining population as more and more people leave the smart/healthy states. By contrast, how many people do you know who, by choice, left those red states to move north?

You do realize that population shifts are just that, SHIFTS. They ebb and flow over the years.

Many leave Massachusetts because we don't have a strong job base for unskilled labor. Much of our economy is based on the high-tech sector and our land costs a lot. Good for me, bad for some. The ones who can't cut it, leave.

We are definitely overfeeding the poor

Lol, for sure man. I've noticed that, I think the best one was an article about Obama giving up his blackberry, that degraded into a rabid squable over his legitimacy as president, and whether or not he did drugs as a kid.

Nicely said.

Also, this article shocks me deeply. Not. But now we have to work on correcting this problem.

I have to disagree with you for the most part... the only thing that I wish this state would get rid of is it's pollution... :/ it's reeking havoc on my nose... I didn't used to have breathing problems when I lived in the Western part of the state.. :/

We are definitely overfeeding the poor, an unexpected consequence of whacky lib social programs....Posted by fwthom

Possibly..
www.fns.usda.gov

But perhaps still up for debate...
www.gwu.edu

Spending all one's time in class, sitting at a computer or watching TV or in a car is the trend that leads to obesity.

Walking a little bit every day can make all the difference, but we don't. We drive cars instead.

Personally I find two forms of exercise too much fun to pass up, skiing and snorkeling particularly abalone diving. Abalone diving is a lot more trouble than surfing (which I never learned) since they closed the coast from San Francisco to Mexico.

how about just using a rebounder for 8 minutes every few days for exercise?

its not surprising.

I mean if you have ever been to texas or tennesse or georgie and all and you ate breakfast you would understand
bisuits and BACON GRAVY and any number of fried this and fried that and all done with huge amounts of LARD..........

but as the comedian once said...I may not live longer than you but at least I will die knowing what breakfast was supposed to taste like

and of course some of you miserable lowlife liberals just have to throw in the unhealthy= dumb routine.
getting older every time BUT when you "aint" got nothing else..........

Please, DR contributors -- you're not doing a very good job getting the word out about how awful this place is. Step up the pace, please!

I love two places in the US, or at least I did until everyone on here told me how bad they are. Alabama and Texas. I guess i'm just stupid for loving places that are so terrible. Florida is ok too.

I was sitting on my back-deck of my other house in alabama over thanksgiving, watching 10 or 12 deer play in the hay field behind my house. I was very upset about how awful the beauty and quiet of the scene was. they know me and will not run away when I come out and watch them.

I should move to some shit-hole like Detroit, Pittsburg or LA where i can be shot at and hear sirens blasting all the time. Then i'll be smart.

nicely said lipzo

and its pretty amazing that you said something like this as I just finished reading a bio on morgan freeman and he talks about why he still lives in mississippi rather than either coasts.
same sort of reasons like you gave about the deer but he includes the people as well

IO guess those of us poor old country bumpkins will jest ass to figir us a ways to get bys being jest a bunch of oles trailor trash.

"I should move to some shit-hole like Detroit, Pittsburg or LA where i can be shot at and hear sirens blasting all the time. Then i'll be smart."

Yep, if you are going to be a fry cook its better to live in Alabama where the dollar stretches farther.

I live in the most densely populated state in the country and I can look out my back window and see a dozen deer at just about any time, BTW. It isn't as if deer and other wildlife only survive down south because they have some kind of symbiotic relationship with white trash......

from above...

"What does that have to do with this thread, fatass?"

-Wisgod

first of all Wisgod, I'm not fat--just well rounded
(bada bing!) hahaha. No really sorry I picked on Moose lady but my previous post was in response to someone else's post...and so you lost the context.

"...and of course some of you miserable lowlife liberals just have to throw in the unhealthy= dumb routine."

-Bushlovertwo

1st see above...you lost the context in which the post was made....2nd...this place is hardly the place for serious debate...so if that's what you were looking for sorry. And lastly, this is a liberal website (like duhh!!) if you don't like it here...go away chubbers...(ROFL)...just kidding, just kidding...wouldn't want you to blow a gasket or anything.

But seriously, if what you want is people who agree with you all the time go to Fox News or Rush Limbaugh.com and debate with the neophytes. I certainly don't waste any time there.

Man there are some seriously immature people on this site. Get all rattled and stuff over idle banter. Just ribbing you. And it's soooo easy...

wait, wait, wait...

But seriously...

"Yo momma so fat, her belt size is Equator"...

"Yo momma so fat, she put on high heels and
struck oil...and since their is so much oil in the south, weeeell that must mean there's alot of fat mommas down there"

LOL. (grin)

See, don't take it seriously. America in general
is hugely fat. We are one fat @ssed nation...

and that's the skinny, on the fat...

(thank you, thank you, I'm here all week,
try the veal, no really)

have good weekend everybody...I'm outtie...

you fattyfatfatties...

If this study counted AIDS deaths and illegal drug deaths then all of the blue states would be considered MASS GRAVES!!!
