Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Gharial crocodiles, fish-eating reptiles once prevalent throughout the Indian subcontinent, were down to just 200 breeding adults found in 2007 and have lost more than 100 who turned up dead on the banks of India's Chambal river. The cause? Gout due to a buildup of kidney-damaging toxins.

I remember when gout was young
Me and Suzie had so much fun
holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got out
was doing a thing called the Crocodile Gout

I'm crying crocodile tears over these crocs.

This is one croc the people of Burundi wish would get gout.

A cold-blooded serial killer. His name is Gustave. He's 20 feet long, weighs 2,000 pounds, and stands accused of devouring hundreds of people..

GUSTAVE - Killer Croc

Who cares ----- We Got Some Pirates To Waste Money and Time On!

Sincerely

The collective "christian right"

I heard it is the cumin in the sewage being dumped into the river.

Who cares? Here's another thread that redneckshill can gratuitiously insert yet another inflection of "I hate righties!"

Those crocs need to cut back on the alcohol and increase their activity! Sounds like something my doctor said a while back....

toxic fish????

are they sure it isn't people????

I was guessing it was excessive dairy intake - sacred cows.

Pakistan still has Gharials (fresh water river crocs) in the Indus.

It is a good looking croc... if you can consider a croc being good looking.

And all this time I thought you just had a thing for pack animals. Who knew?

Sez who?

Crocs are cool. If you talk to them, they can understand what you are saying. Just like dogs.

Long time ago, the American ambassador to Pakistan (when Karachi was the capital) was in love with crocs (probably the same kind as these) and he got a little croc and let it live in his bathtub.

But the little croc grew up and started making murder attempts on the Ambassador while he was pooping on the toilet.

So, Ambassador said, enough is enough and he got his security people to fight it out of his bathtub and out of his bathroom and sent it back to the swamp/river where it had come from.

This was the first encounter of American security against terror in Pakistan-region.

Btw, what the hell is the difference between a gator and croc? They look the same to me.

One of the American Presidents kept an alligator in his bathtub at the White House. Can't remember which one it was. Long time ago.

The alligator was large.

Gators have more tapered snouts. Crocs have more blunt heads. They can also jump far enough out of the water to pull you out of a tree if you try to hide there. Alligators don't tend to do that.

I wouldn't care which is which if confronted. I'd just RUN for my friggin' life! LOL

There's a highway called "The Tamiami Trail" that runs across South Florida. They put up 8' chain link fences on both sides because people were hitting alligators left and right. You can see groups of 5 or more sunning themselves on the bank of the canals that run down both sides of the road all the way.
A few years ago I was visiting a friend in Louisiana. The swamp backs up to his house. He has a pond in the front yard, and an alligator took to it when it was young. By the time it hit 6' it could jump out of the water far enough to get one of his kids, so he, his brother, and his dad got it out of there and trucked it into the swamp a mile or so away from his house. I offered encouragement from a distance LOL

PS Did you catch the picture of "Gustave" I posted above?

2000 pound maneater

Oh yes... I wouldn't want to be near that thing.

TOSSER

I saw pics of him next to other adult crocs. They looked like midgets compared to him. He's as wide as an midsized car.

Terrible....

There is a shrine near Karachi.. some Saint is buried there. He liked crocs.

I went there to see the crocs and they are a different breed... not one of them is bigger than 5, 6 feet. And very gentle... for crocs. People feed them from their hands and they are used to that.

Legend is, if you are nice to his crocs, the Saint will grant you a wish or two. They live for a very long time I think.

Gotta give credit when it's due. FF.

The gharial could be the canary in the coalmine. They are telling us something very important - that our rivers are dying, and that could mean us dying next.

But what about our quarterly profit margins?

Saw a short doc. on this sneaky fucker a while back. Hard to believe he's killed so many and has managed to not get caught, at least he hadn't been caught when I saw this a few years ago.

I have gout. The flareups hurt like a bitch.

I wouldn't wish it on anyone, not even Gustav.

gout sucks, but i take the meds. haven't had a flare up in two years.

Hillbilly,

I just started taking Alipurinol, although I haven't tapered my way up to the full 300 miligrams yet.

I always hated the thought of popping pills every day, which is why I avoided the preventative for so long. However, I was popping a shitload of ibuprofin and indocin to deal with my frequent flare-ups (most of which were rather minor - altough I had 2 wicked flare-ups this summer). I finally decided I was popping on average more anti-inflammatories than I would by just taking the preventative (which has no side-effects). So, here I am.

My wife knows something that helps a lot with gout. My father in law had it and it worked well. I'll check with her and get back to you.

Was that the one where they built the huge cage they partially submersed in the river then tied up chickens and a goat inside to try to catch him to no avail? Gustave is one bad mutha ....
